Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Adam C. Martin
Adam C. Martin, 95, a resident of Menno Haven Chambersburg, and formerly of 571 Redwood Dr., State Line, Pa. died at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007 in the nursing home.

Born Oct. 23, 1912 in Washington County, Md., he was the son of the late Joseph H. and Mary (Carpenter) Martin.

He had worked in feed sales at the former D.A. Stickell & sons of Hagerstown, Md. and also at the former Maugansville Elevator, having retired in 1982.

Mr. Martin was the oldest member of the Cedar Grove Mennonite Church near Greencastle and had been involved with the Mennonite Disaster Service (MDS).

He and his wife, Martha E. (Meyers) Martin were married June 22, 1935. She died on Nov. 18, 1997.

He is survived by a daughter, Barbara A. (wife of Larry) Miller of Greencastle; two sons, Richard J. (husband of Wilma) Martin of Greencastle and Donald E. (husband of Ann) Martin, Newark, Del.; two brothers, Ralph C. Martin of Waynesboro, Va. and Mark C. Martin of Manheim; a sister, Anna C. Mellinger, a resident of the Mennonite Fellowship Home, Hagerstown; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 22 greatgrandchildren; three step-greatgrandchildren; and six great-greatgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.

Services were held the morning of Monday, Nov. 26 in Cedar Grove Mennonite Church, Greencastle, with Pastor Stephen Fretz officiating.

Burial was in the adjoining church cemetery.

Arrangements were handled by the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the building fund of Cedar Grove Mennonite Church, 13343 Williamsport Pike, Greencastle, Pa. 17225.

William Eigenbrode
William Eigenbrode, 66, of 605 East Baltimore St., Greencastle, died at 10:50 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007 in the Waynesboro Hospital.

Born Feb. 14, 1941 in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Lloyd D. and Kathleen M. (Fisher) Eigenbrode.

He was a life long resident of Greencastle.

Mr. Eigenbrode graduated from Greencastle High School with the Class of 1959. He then attended Business School in Hagerstown, Md.

He was employed by Canteen Food & Vending Service in Chambersburg, serving as vicepresident.

Mr. Eigenbrode was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed sports.

He is survived by a special friend and several cousins.

Services and burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements were handled by Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, Greencastle.

John H. Kriner
John H. Kriner, 86, a resident of Quincy United Methodist Home, Quincy, and formerly of Eastern Ave., Greencastle, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2007 at the nursing home. He had been ill for eight months and in critical health for the last two weeks.

Born Feb., 14, 1921 in Chewsville, Md., he was the son of the late George A. and Ida C. (Hartle) Kriner. He spent his early life in Bushtown area of Greencastle and attended Greencastle schools.

He and his wife, the late Edna E. (Bingaman) Kriner, were married Nov. 2, 1940 in Hagerstown, Md. and lived at their present residence since 2005. They formerly lived at 660 Woodland Parkway, State Line. Mrs. Kriner died Sept. 13, 2006.

Mr. Kriner was a farmer for 43 years for Eden Plains Dairy, Hagerstown, and from 1963 until his retirement in 1984 he worked in the shipping department of Grove Manufacturing, Shady Grove.

He attended Calvary Assembly of God, Waynesboro.

Mr. Kriner enjoyed woodworking and lawn care.

He is survived by two  daughters, Joan E. Carty and Ann S. Cunningham, both of Greencastle; a son, Donald E. Kriner of Laurel, Del.; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the last of his immediate family.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Phenicie Hinkley and Cressa Kline; five brothers, Arthur Kriner, George Kriner, Alfred Kriner, Ross Kriner, and Cyrus Kriner; and one infant brother, Samuel Kriner.

Services were held the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 4 in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Rev. Dwan Newsome and Pastor Walter Stuart officiating.

Burial followed in Beautiful View cemetery, State Line.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17202.

Arville W. Shank
Arville W. Shank, 76, of 14331 Greenview Dr., Greencastle, died at 5:43 p.m. Saturday Dec. 1, 2007 in the Falling Spring Nursing And Rehabilitation Center, Chambersburg, Pa. where he was a resident for the past three years.

Born Jan. 15, 1931 in Mount Clinton, Va., he was the son of the late Emmanuel J. and Mae Elizabeth (Frye) Shank.

He worked as a truck driver.

Mr. Shank was a member of the Emmanuel Chapel in Smithsburg, Md.

He enjoyed being with his family, doing woodworking and listening to music and hymns.

Mr. Shank was a U.S. Navy veteran serving from 1947 to 1952.

He and his wife, Priscilla M. (Strickler) Shank were married Oct. 22, 1949 in Charlottesville, Va.

In addition to his wife of 58 years, he is survived by four  daughters, Alison Siers of Cairo, W. Va., Elizabeth Fink of Greencastle, Julia Smith of Hagerstown, Md. and Cindy Nesselrodt, Weyers Cave, Va.; two sons, Rodney Shank and Richard Shank, both of Greencastle; four sisters, Reba Poff of Roanoke, Va., Kathleen Spitzer of Harrisonburg, Va., Frances Gochenour of Florida and Pauline Painter of Roanoke, Va.; 13 grandchildren; and five greatgrandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Alvin Shank; two sisters, Esther Showalter and Dorothy Cliser; and two grandsons, Travis and Caleb Shank.

Services were held the morning of Wednesday, Dec. 5 in the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Revs. Jonathan Laye and Clyde Connor officiating.

Burial was in the Beautiful View cemetery near State Line.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Hospice Of The Good Shepherd, 2700 Luther Dr., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Eddie "Ed" R. Beatty
Eddie "Ed" R. Beatty, 44, of 10641 Long Dr., Fannettsburg, died early Monday, Nov. 26, 2007 at his hunting cabin in Fannettsburg, from an apparent heart attack. Born Aug. 6, 1963 in Stuttgart, Germany, he was the son of Ronald E. and Lula M. (Comp) Beatty of 11872 Mercersburg Road, Greencastle.

Wallace H. Green
Wallace H. Green, 77, of Brook Street, Greencastle, died at 4:35 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007 in his home. Born May 18, 1930 in Franklin, Tenn., he was the son of the late James Benton and Claudia Finley Green. A machinist, he was the former owner and operator of Termatrex Products Inc. of Gaithersburg and Frederick, Md.

H. Dean Hollinger
H. Dean Hollinger, 77, of 10956 Worleytown Road, Greencastle, died at 1:10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007 in the Quincy Retirement Home, Quincy, where he was a resident for the past month.

Born July 17, 1930 in Montgomery Township, he was the son of the late Omar G. and Della (Ramsey) Hollinger.

He was the owner and operator of Hollinger's Repair Service of Greencastle and also served as the bus mechanic for the Broadfording Bible Brethren Church of Hagerstown, Md. In his earlier years he had worked for the Western Maryland Railroad and Grove Manufacturing Co. in Shady Grove.

Mr. Hollinger was a member for many years of the Broadfording Bible Brethren Church of Hagerstown where he taught Sunday School and he also attended the Macedonia United Brethren Church near Greencastle.

He was a member of the Rescue Hose Co. 1 of Greencastle.

Mr. Hollinger was a graduate of the former Lemasters High School.

He had attended the Greencastle Senior Center and enjoyed visiting with people.

He and his wife, Sara M. (Reed) Hollinger were married Sept. 6, 1950 in Saxton. She died April 27, 2002.

He is survied by a son, David Dean Hollinger of Cody, Wyoming; two  daughters, Lois E. (Mrs. Richard) Gingerich and Deborah S. (Mrs. Mervin) Hock, both of Greencastle; two sisters, Edna M. Budy of Harrisburg and Doris Leonard of Fayetteville; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services were held the morning of Friday, Nov. 30 in the Macedonia United Brethren Church, Greencastle, with Pastors Gayle L. Ruble Sr. and R. William Wyand officiating.

Burial was in the Spring Grove cemetery, Lemasters.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Broadfording Bible Brethren Church, 13535 Broadfording Church Rd., Hagerstown, Md. 21740 or to the Macedonia United Brethren Church, 11887 Worleytown Rd., Greencastle, Pa. 17225.

Dale M. Ott
Dale Marshal Ott, 51, of Antrim Church Road, Greencastle, died Wednesday evening, Nov. 28, 2007 in the Chambersburg Hospital. He was the son of Roy M. and Elena M. (Sipes) Ott of Greencastle. Mr. Ott was employed by Tyco Electronics, working at the East Berlin plant and most recently at the Waynesboro plant.

Goldie R. Fries
Goldie R. (Keyfauver) Fries, 76, of Jack Mill Road, Chambersburg, died at 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 7, 2007 in her home. Born May 12, 1931 in Porterstown, Md., she was the daughter of the late David Lee and Mae Ruth (Lumm) Keyfauver.

Harry K. Horst
Harry K. Horst, 91, of 3837 Harold Place, Greencastle, died unexpectedly at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007 in the emergency room of the Waynesboro Hospital.

Born Aug. 6, 1916 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Jacob and Anna (Kyler) Horst.

Mr. Horst worked for many years for the Western Maryland Railroad and then the Chessie System Railroad in Hagerstown.

He was a life long member of the State Line United Methodist Church where he had served on various committees.

Mr. Horst was a member of the Mercersburg Sportsman Association and the Greencastle Sportsman Association.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

His first wife, Kathryn G. Horst, died in 1994 and his second wife, Doris Hollingshead Horst, died Oct. 25, 2003.

He is survived by a son, Richard H. Horst of Greencastle; a sister, Mary Keller of Maugansville, Md.; a brother, Guy Horst of Chambersburg; three step- daughters; two grandchildren; four greatgrandchildren; and numerous stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Donald Horst in 1940; a daughter Carolyn Junkins in 1996; four brothers, Paul Horst, Charles Horst, Clyde Horst and James Horst; and two sisters, Amy Hartman and Ellen Klicklighter.

Services were held the morning of Wednesday, Dec. 12 in the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Pastor Dwaine Krebs officiating.

Burial was in the Cedar Hill cemetery, Greencastle.

Memorial contributions may be given to the State Line United Methodist Church P.O. Box 277 State Line, Pa. 17263.

Esther M. Martin
Esther M. Martin, 84. of 13243 Maugansville Road, Hagerstown, Md. died unexpectedly at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007 in her home. Born June 27, 1923 in Reid, Washington County, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late John M. and Rhoda S. (Martin) Eshleman.

Alma Moser
Alma Bertha Catherine (Dundore) Moser, 87, of 5925 Milky Way, Waynesboro, died at 8:15 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007 in Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg. She had been in failing health for the past two years.

Born Jan. 2, 1920 in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Robert John and Theresa (Rheinwalt) Dundore.

She and her husband of 50 years, Donald R. Moser, were married Nov. 16, 1957 in Reading. They moved to their present residence in November 1991.

Mrs. Moser was a homemaker.

She was a member of Greencastle Church of God where she served as Adult Sunday School Teacher; and national AARP.

Mrs. Moser enjoyed gardening and sewing.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Bette Jayne Axsmith Haught of Pottstown; two granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one sister, Edith Fitzgerald of Birdsboro; two brothers, Raymond Dundore of Tampa, Fla. and Leonard Dundore of Zephyrhills, Fla.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Arlene Kocher.

Services were held the morning of Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007 in Greencastle Church of God, 4480 Buchanan Trail West, Greencastle, with the Revs. Floyd E. Myers and Keith Powers officiating.

Graveside services were held the morning of Friday, Dec. 7 in Pleasant View cemetery, Sinking Spring.

Arrangements were handled by Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, Greencastle.

Anna Elizabeth Bitner
Anna Elizabeth (Foreman) Bitner, 91, a resident of Quincy Village, Quincy, and formerly of 4882 Salem Church Road, Waynesboro, PA, died at 9:33 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007 in the nursing home. She had been in failing health for the past year.

Freda C. Peck-Sipes
Freda Catherine Peck-Sipes, 91, of 408 Carolle St., Greencastle, died at 1:29 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007 in the Waynesboro Hospital, after a brief illness. Born Feb. 6, 1916 in Needmore, she was the daughter of the late Enock Columbus and Mary Frances (Mellott) Truax.

Lucille L. Crawford
Lucille L. Crawford, 90, a resident of Menno Haven, Chambersburg, since Aug. 1, 2007 and formerly of 38 West Grandview Ave., Mercersburg, died at 8:21 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007 in the Village Square of Menno Haven. Born Feb. 11, 1917 in Hagerstown, Md., she was the daughter of the late John A. and Lyla Ellen (McBride) O'Brien.
