Sharon L. St. Clair
Sharon L. St. Clair, 60, of Mercersburg Road, Greencastle, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007 in the emergency room of Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown, Md.
Born June 8, 1947 in Greencastle, she was a daughter of Virginia Maun Myers of Greencastle and the late Harold Kenneth Myers.
She had been employed for 18 years at Regency Thermographers Inc., Waynesboro.
She was a member of Women of the Moose of Waynesboro.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, George E. St. Clair, whom she married July 2, 1994; three daughters, Kristine Gearhart of Tryon, N.C., Jody Solesbee of Landrum, S.C. and Angela Ewoldt of Momence, Ill.; three step children, Alice St. Clair of Greencastle, Lester St. Clair and Daryl St. Clair both of Ft. Loudon; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Connie Bell of Middletown, Md., Brenda Myers of Hagerstown, Md. and JoEllen Wright of Greencastle; and a brother, Floyd Myers of Greencastle.
Services were held the morning of Oct. 13 in Macedonia United Brethren Church, Greencastle, with Reverend Gayle L. Ruble Sr. officiating.
Burial was in the adjoining church cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg.
Robert L. Barnes Sr.
Robert L. Barnes Sr., 77, of 5592 Kennedy Ave., Williamson, died at 6:40 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007 in the Hershey Medical Center, Hershey. He had been in declining health since July.
Born May 11, 1930 in Williamson, he was the son of the late Parker A.W. and Florence E. (Bryan) Barnes.
He was self-employed in the hauling and selling of coal for over 50 years. He also worked at the former Detrich Elevator in Williamson and for 18 years at the former Seagrams Distillery in Williamson.
Mr. Barnes was a member of the St. Luke's Lutheran Church of Williamson and attended Sebring Church of The Brethren in Sebring, Florida.
He was a charter member of the Williamson Ruritan Club and a member of the Sebring Recreation Club.
Mr. Barnes was a 1948 graduate of St. Thomas High School.
He enjoyed traveling and spending the winter in Florida.
He and his wife, Grace (Peiffer) Barnes were married Nov. 18, 1951 in Hagerstown, Md.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Robert L. (husband of Carolyn) Barnes Jr., Donald R. Barnes and Larry E. Barnes, all of Chambersburg; a daughter, Carol E. (wife of Joseph) Stover of Williamson; two brothers, Richard E. Barnes of Chambersburg and Barry E. Barnes of Greencastle; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy I. Cullison.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24 in the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle, with Pastors Alan Wilson and Vic Miller officiating.
Burial will be in the Cedar Hill cemetery, Greencastle.
Helen A. Rowland
Helen A. (Myers) Rowland, 92, formerly of Middleburg, Md., currently a resident of Homewood Nursing Home, Williamsport, Md., died at 11:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007 at the nursing home.
Born Aug. 31, 1915 in Middleburg, she was the daughter of the late Aaron S. and Leila (Hartle) Myers. She was a life long resident of the State Line area. She entered Homewood in January 2003.
She graduated from Greencastle High School with the Class of 1934.
She and her husband, Charles B. Rowland, were married Sept. 6, 1935 in Greencastle. Mr. Rowland died May 29, 1989.
Mrs. Rowland was employed as the Postmaster for the State Line Post Office, State Line, Pa. for 18 years before retiring in 1979.
She was a life-long member of Trinity United Church of Christ, State Line, where she served as the pianist for many years, served on church consistory and was a member of Willing Workers.
Mrs. Rowland enjoyed crocheting, bowling, and was a fan of the Baltimore Orioles.
She is survived by two sisters, Edna Kershner and Ethel Rathbone, both of State Line.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Emma B. Brumbaugh.
Services were held the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 31 in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Rev. Ed Higginbottom officiating.
Burial followed in Cedar Hill cemetery, Greencastle.

Rudolf M. Wertime
Rudolf M. Wertime of Greencastle, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007 at home. Born May 25, 1912 in Ohio County, West Virginia, he was the son of Rudolf and Flora Montgomery Wertime. Mr.
Paul Edwin Hartman
Paul Edwin Hartman, 76, of C- 62 16505 Virginia Ave., Williamsport, Md. and formerly of Hagerstown, Md., died unexpectedly Wednesday evening, Oct. 31, 2007 in the emergency room of the Washington County Hospital Hagerstown, Md.
Cora E. Shinham Angle
Cora E. Shinham Angle, 98, of Marion, died at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007 in her home, following a brief illness.
Born Feb. 9, 1909 in Antrim Township, she was a daughter of the late John M. and Cora E. Winger Shinham.
She married Alvey D. Angle Nov. 24, 1931. He died July 24, 1984.
She was a housewife and homemaker.
Mrs. Angle was a member of Solomon's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Grindstone Hill for over 75 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Arlene (and husband Richard G.) Brill of Chambersburg; and a grandson, Alan (and wife, Cheryl) Brill, of Lititz.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, David, George, Elmer, and Frank Shinham; and two sisters, Mary Brant and Nelling Angle.
Services were held the morning of Friday, Nov. 9, 2007 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, with Rev. Michael E. Allwein officiating.
Burial followed in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

Marshall E. Shuman
Marshall E. Shuman, 80, a resident of Michaux Manor Living Center, South Mountain, and formerly of 419 Cleveland Ave., Waynesboro, died at 8:50 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007 at Michaux Manor. He was in failing health since suffering a stroke Oct. 24, 2006 and became critical Nov. 1, 2007.
Born July 17, 1927 in Lemasters, he was the son of the late James and Mabel Grace (Neikirk) Shuman. He lived his early life in Philadelphia.
He graduated from Girard College in Philadelphia in 1945.
He served in the United States Navy Reserves during World War II in the American Theater, stationed at the U.S. Naval Amphibious Base in Little Creek, Virginia.
He and his late wife, Mrs. Geneva M. (Keckler) Shuman, were married Jan. 11, 1948 in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waynesboro. They moved to the Cleveland Avenue address in 1956. Mrs. Shuman died July 11, 1993. He entered Michaux Manor Dec. 29, 2006.
Following his discharge from the military; he worked at Fairchild Aircraft Manufacturing in Hagerstown, Md. Prior to retiring in January 1988 he was a machinist-draftsman and sales engineer at Landis Tool Company in Waynesboro.
Mr. Shuman was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waynesboro, where he served as a Primary Sunday School teacher for over 30 years and was Cub Scout Master for Pack 19 of the Lutheran Church.
He also was a member of Acacia Lodge 586 Free & Accepted Masons, Waynesboro; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Consistory, Valley of Harrisburg; member and past President of South Penn Scottish Rite Club; Zembo Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Harrisburg; Franklin County Shrine Club, where he served as President; George Washington Council 66 Royal & Selected Masters of PA in Chambersburg; Hagerstown Shrine Club; Ali Ghan Shrine in Hagerstown; Tall Cedars of Lebanon Forest 95 of Hagerstown; Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15, Waynesboro; Wm. Max McLaughlin V.F.W. Post 695 of Waynesboro; Waynesboro Fish and Game Association; life member of the A.T.H. & L Fire Company of Waynesboro; member of Eagle's Club Inc. of Waynesboro; Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1191 of Waynesboro; Continental Commandery 56 Knights Templar of Chambersburg; South Chapter 2977 AARP, national AARP and served on the Advisory Board of Directors of AAA Southern PA Travel Agency in Waynesboro.
He is survived by a son, Gordon E. (daughter-in-law Maryann) Shuman of Waynesboro; two grandsons, Geoffrey Shuman and Michael Shuman, both of Waynesboro; and one great-granddaughter, Alexis E. Shuman of Waynesboro.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline Trumpower, Helen Zeiters, two brothers, Richard Shuman and Harold Shuman.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad Street, Waynesboro, with Rev. Henry K. Johnson officiating.
Burial will be in Green Hill cemetery, Waynesboro.
There was a Masonic Memorial Service conducted Tuesday by his lodge in the funeral home.
Military graveside services will be conducted by the Honor Guard of Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post 1599 of Chambersburg.

Clarence E. Keller
Clarence E. Keller, 86, of 772 Buchanan Trail East, Greencastle, died at 2 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007 in the Shook Home, Chambersburg, where he was a resident for less than a day.
Born May 8, 1921 in Antrim Township, he was the son of the late Floyd Thomas and Verna (Myers) Keller.
Mr. Keller was the owner of the former Keller's Men's and Boy's Wear of Greencastle and in his earlier years he worked at the former Hershey Creamery in Greencastle.
He was a member of the Greencastle Lions Club since 1968 where he had served as club secretary, chairman of the broom sales, Christmas tree sales, bowla thon, served on the Antrim House Board Of Trustees for many years and was in charge of the rentals of the former "Lions Den." In June 2005, he received the Lions Melvin Jones Fellowship Award for his community service and club and committee service.
Mr. Keller was instrumental in the formation of the Greencastle Retail Merchants Association and served as chairman for 16 years. He served as president of the Greencastle-Antrim Chamber of Commerce for two years and has been an Old Home Week Association vice president for over 20 years.
He is a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Greencastle and is a 47 year member of the Mt. Pisgah Lodge 443 F. & A.M. of Greencastle, a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Harrisburg, member of the Rescue Hose Co. 1 of Greencastle, a member of the Greencastle Sportsman Association and a member of the West End Hunting Club.
Mr. Keller was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II having served in the D-Day invasion where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Harry D. Zeigler V.F.W. Post 6319 and a member of the Frank L. Carbaugh American Legion Post 373, both of Greencastle.
He enjoyed golfing, hunting and bowling, having bowled in several leagues.
In addition to his wife of 61 years, Jessie M. (Seacrest) Keller, he is survived by a sister, Mildred Louise Chamberlin of Five Forks; a brother, Ralph Keller of Greencastle; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Ernest "Pete" Keller, Ray "Jim" Keller, Clyde Keller, Lee Keller and John Keller and by sisters, Catherine Harbaugh, Anna Myers and Hazel Myers.
Services were held the morning of Saturday, Nov. 24 in the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Rev. William W. DeHass officiating.
Burial was in the Cedar Hill cemetery, Greencastle.

The Greencastle V.F.W. held a memorial service Saturday morning at the funeral home.
Charles McLaren
Charles McLaren, 66, of 7967 Molly Pitcher Highway, Greencastle, died at 9:18 a.m., Monday, Nov. 26, 2007, in the Waynesboro Hospital. He had been in failing health for the past several years.
Born Sept. 19, 1941 in Lochwinnoch, Scotland, he was the son of the late Charles and Georgina (Campbell) McLaren. He lived his young life in Scotland.
Mr. McLaren graduated from Butterburn Primary School and later Rockwell High School, United Kingdom, with the Class of 1957.
He later joined the Royal Air Force, where he qualified as a Propulsion Specialist, retiring in 1980. Following retirement from the Armed Forces, he entered the field of civil aviation, working mainly as a contract engineer, traveling extensively in Europe and North Africa.
Mr. McLaren came to the United States in 1985 with Aeron International Airlines, which then operated from Hagerstown Airport, as an Aircraft and Powerplant Mechanic. He later worked on airline aircrafts at JJ & W Aircraft Services and later for several commuter airlines operating as USAirways Express that had aircrafter maintenance facilities in Hagerstown. He was last employed at Chautauqua Airlines, until they left the area in 2001.
He was a member of Frank L. Carbaugh American Legion Post 373 and Harry D. Ziegler V.F.W. Post 6319, both of Greencastle, and the national AARP.
Mr. McLaren enjoyed the opera.
He was the last of his immediate family.
Services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

Matthew E. Eyler
Matthew Evans Eyler, 44, of Hagerstown, Md., died Tuesday morning, Nov. 20, 2007 in Hagerstown. Born June 18, 1963 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Paul Evans Eyler Jr. and Marie (Kauffman) Boyer of Boonsboro, Md.; and stepson of the Rev. Carroll L. Boyer of Boonsboro, Md.
Mary E. Clever Gearhart
Mary E. (Blair) Clever Gearhart, 86, a resident of Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Chambersburg, and formerly of 11390 Worleytown Road, Greencastle, died at 10:50 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007, in the nursing home.
Born May 15, 1921 in Mercersburg, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Lizzie "Elizabeth" (Carpenter) Blair. She lived most of her life in the Greencastle and Mercersburg areas.
Mrs. Gearhart attended Lafayette School in Mercersburg.
She and her first husband, the late Harry O. Clever were married in 1940. Mr. Clever died in 1951. She and her second husband, the late Kenneth E. Gearhart, were married Nov. 26, 1957 in Hagerstown, Md. They moved to Worleytown Road in 1992. Mr. Gearhart died June 13, 2001.
Mrs. Gearhart was a homemaker most of her life.
She was a member of Faith Temple Church, Cearfoss, Md.
Mrs. Gearhart enjoying being active in her church, sewing and reading.
She is survived by two daughters, Ruth A. Wallech and Betty J. Stutak, both of Hagerstown; three sons, Earl R. Clever of Greencastle, Billy R. Clever of Hagerstown and Nelson C. Clever of Greencastle; 24 grandchildren; 41 greatgrandchildren; five great-greatgrandchildren; one sister, Mildred M. Ecker of Hagerstown; one brother, Aden Blair of Middletown, Md.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Edna G. Messner; an infant daughter, Annabelle Clever; one son, Preston L. Clever; one great-grandson; four sisters, Edna Young, Olive Robinson, Ella May Laird and Florence Blair; three brothers, Albert Blair, Clarence Blair and Preston Blair; an infant brother, John H. Blair.
Services were held the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 27 in Faith Temple Church, Hagerstown, with Rev. Ronald L. Lynch, officiating.
Burial followed in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
Arrangements were handled by Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, Greencastle.
