Joseph E. Harbaugh
Joseph E. "Joe" Harbaugh, 80, of 623 Spring Hill Drive, Waynesboro, died at 11:20 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007 in Quincy United Methodist Home, Quincy, where he was a guest for a short time. He was in failing health since suffering a stroke July 30, 2007 and became critical on Sept. 6, 2007.
Born Jan. 21, 1927 in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Ernest A. and Margaret E. (Starner) Harbaugh. He was a life long resident of Waynesboro.
Mr. Harbaugh attended Washington Township High School.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II, serving in the South Pacific Theater.
He and his wife of over 60 years, Mrs. Janet E. (Smith) Harbaugh, were married Jan. 10, 1947 in Saint Andrew Catholic Church, Waynesboro. They moved to the present residence in October 2003.
Mr. Harbaugh was employed as an inspector for Fairchild Aircraft Manufacturing for 12 years, and then prior to retiring in 1987, for Mack Truck for 27 years, both of Hagerstown, Md. He also helped his Father-in-law, Willard Smith with the Waynesboro Bowling Alley.
He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Waynesboro, Crider's Men Sunday School Class of the church and served on various committees within the church. He also was a member of the Wm. Max McLaughlin V.F.W. Post 695 of Waynesboro and the national AARP.
Mr. Harbaugh enjoyed playing golf and bowling.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Deborah S. Wishard of Webster, N.Y.; a son, Jack E. Harbaugh of Greencastle; six grandchildren; three greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Mary Hall of Silver Spring, Md. and Margaret "Peg" Beach of Waynesboro; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, James Austin Harbaugh, Ernest E. Harbaugh, John Richard Harbaugh, Robert B. Harbaugh, C. Donald Harbaugh and Eugene Harbaugh.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad Street, Waynesboro with Rev. Mark Shover and Rev. John L. Rauch officiating.
Burial will be in Green Hill cemetery, Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

Beulah M. Burkholder
Beulah M. (Statler) Burkholder, 87, Greencastle, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2007 in the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Dec. 12, 1919 in Marion, she was the daughter of the late Percy P. and Mary Elizabeth (Small) Statler.
She and her husband of 69 years, Glenn S. Burkholder, were married April 16, 1938 in Hagerstown, Md. They lived at their present home for 51 years and in the Coseytown and Mason Dixon areas early in their marriage.
Mrs. Burkholder was employed by the Greencastle- Antrim School District as a cafeteria worker for 20 years.
She enjoyed embroidery and was especially known for her hand-smocked baby dresses.
Mrs. Burkholder is a member of Grace Baptist Church, Waynesboro, where she worked with the babies and toddlers in the nursery.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Ruby E. Peterson, (wife of Ray), of Greencastle; a son, Charles Leon Burkholder (husband of Lois), of Rockaway Beach, Mo.; sisters Betty Walter of Greencastle and Judy Williams of Frederick, Md; grandchildren: Joy Geiman, Jonathan, Joel, James and Julie Peterson, Eastlyn Burkholder and Genie Vaughan; greatgrandchildren, Daniel, Elizabeth, Andrew, Matthew, Lauren, Joshua, Conner, Courtney, Sarah, Hannah, Rachel, Nadine, Lane, Jacob, Benjamin and Nathan.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Gene Statler Burkholder; a granddaughter, Andrea Jo Peterson; great-grandson, David S. Geiman; and siblings, Vera Ferren, Catherine Hicks, Harry Statler, Eugene Statler, Janet Garber and Patsy Brechbiel.
Services were held the morning of Monday, Sept. 17 in the Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Rev. John Huff officiating.
Burial followed in Broadfording cemetery, Hagerstown, Md.

Robert E. Angle
Robert Eugene Angle, 71, of 135 North Allison St., Greencastle, died at 12:43 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, 2007 in the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Dec. 11, 1935 in Marion, he was the son of the late Henry C. and Ora H. (Martin) Angle.
He retired after 37 years employment with Mack Trucks of Hagerstown, Md. and in his earlier years he worked at the Frick Co. in Waynesboro.
As a young man, he attended the Welsh Run Church Of The Brethren and was currently a member of the Mountain View Baptist Church in Hagerstown, Md.
Mr. Angle was a 1953 graduate of the Mercersburg High School.
He was a member of the Fulton County Sportsman Association in McConnellsburg, member of the Greencastle Sportsman Association and a social member of the Harry D. Zeigler V.F.W. Post 6319 of Greencastle.
Mr. Angle served as a coach in the Greencastle Little League from 1975-1978 and managed an All-Star team.
He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman and sports fan.
Mr. Angle enjoyed being with his family.
He and his wife, Regina F. (Repp) Angle were married Nov. 4, 1955 in Boonsboro, Md.
In addition to his wife of 51 years, he is survived by four sons, Steve Angle of Greencastle, Terry Angle of Rouzerville, Todd Angle of Chambersburg and Darren Angle of Shippensburg; two sisters, Nancy Greibel of Wisconsin and Doris Rife of Mercersburg; and six grandchildren.
Services were held the afternoon of Friday, Sept. 21 in Mountain View Baptist Church with Pastor Bill Clark officiating.
Burial was in the Welsh Run Church Of The Brethren cemetery near Welsh Run.

Leonard Spitz
Leonard Spitz, 95, of 1626 Majestic Drive, and formerly of 1512 Philadelphia Ave., both in Chambersburg, died at 7:50 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21, 2007 in the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Nov. 26, 1911 in New York, N.Y., he was a son of the late Samuel and Bertha Rosenthal Spitz.
In the 1920's he played Minor League Professional Baseball in New York City.
Mr. Spitz received a Bachelor's Degree from the City College of New York, and during the 1930's, was employed as the Food Purchaser for the New Yorker Hotel, The Plaza Hotel, and The Waldorf- Astoria, all in New York City. He was summoned to work as the Food Purchaser at the Pentagon during WWII. During his five years of employment at the Pentagon, he was also assigned the task of improving the processing and packaging of C-rations for the soldiers.
He was owner and president of the former Antrim Cold Storage and the former Leonard Spitz, Inc. (manufacturer of frozen foods), both of Greencastle, from the late 1940s until 1970.
Mr. Spitz developed the machinery to create the crinkle cut potato (French fry) at his Greencastle business.
He married Peggy Haines Spitz, Jan. 23, 1939. She died Feb. 5, 2000.
He is survived by six children, Lynn A. Spitz of Bellevue, Wash., Athens and Kefalonia, Greece, Raymond A. Spitz and wife Josie of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Marilea A. Geyer and husband Harold of Chambersburg, Marian P. MacNett (wife of the late David MacNett) of Troy, Donald N. Spitz and wife Marilynn of Lexington, Ken. and Cheryl A. Pietsch and husband Benjamin of Chambersburg; and seven grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry and Edgar.
A memorial service was held the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 25 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg with the Rev. John E. Geyer officiating.
Burial followed in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.

Timothy A. Short
Timothy A. Short, 49, of 10655 Bailey Springs Lane, Waynesboro, died at 1:25 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007, in the emergency room of the Waynesboro Hospital. Death was unexpected and attributed to heart failure.
Born Feb. 13, 1958 in Waynesboro, he was the son of Nevin A. and Sherry L. (West) Short of Greencastle. He lived most of his life in the Waynesboro and McConnellsburg areas.
Mr. Short graduated from Greencastle-Antrim Senior High School with the Class of 1977.
He was employed at JLG Industries, McConnellsburg, as a welder for close to 30 years.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles 1758, Waynesboro, the Greencastle Sportsman's Association and the Waynesboro Fish and Game.
Mr. Short enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching professional wrestling and airplanes.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by three daughters, Heather M. Ricker of Chambersburg, Erica L. Short of Warrington and Kayla E. Manahan of Waynesboro; one son, Aaron L. Short of Hagerstown, Md.; eight grandchildren; one sister, Laura L. Horton of Fayetteville; two brothers, Michael R. Short of Greencastle and Andrew P. Short of Cumming, Ga.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services were held the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 26 in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Rev. Floyd Myers officiating.
Burial followed in Green Hill cemetery, Waynesboro.

Teddy R. Talhelm
Teddy R. Talhelm, 86, a resident of Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Chambersburg, and formerly of 11760 Carol Ave., and 104 E. Baltimore St., both of Greencastle, died at 8:36 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007, in the nursing home. He had been in failing health for the past year and critically ill for the past two months.
Born January 19, 1921 near Fairview, Md., he was the son of the late Hoover and Mary (Dagenhart) Talhelm. He lived his early life near Wilson, Md., prior to moving to Pennsylvania at the age of 4.
Mr. Talhem attended Brown's Mill School in Kauffman Station.
He served with the United States Army during World War II from 1944-1946 in the Pacific Theater.
He and his wife, the late Gladys (Marlin) Talhelm, were married Nov. 19, 1939, in Huyett Cross Roads, Md. Mrs. Talhelm died Nov. 1, 1989. Mr. Talhelm moved to Carol Ave. in October 2000 and entered the nursing home Aug. 27, 2007.
Mr. Talhelm worked for Fairchild Aircraft, Hagerstown, in the early 1940s. He was later employed as a farm laborer for 35 years for Lynn Huber of Lemasters; A.W. Martin of Greenvillage for 14 years; and Don McCullough of Newville for 5 years. Following his retirement in 1986, he worked part time for Minnich-Miller-May Funeral Home, presently Miller- Bowersox Funeral Home.
He attended services at Antrim Assembly of God Church, Greencastle.
He was a life member of Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post 1599, Chambersburg, and he was a member of American Legion Post 945, Williamsburg.
Mr. Talhelm enjoyed driving, playing cards, and trains.
He is survived by four daughters, Anna K. Hummer of Greencastle, Janet I. Durda of Cape Coral, Fla., Janice A. Fraley of Ransom, W.Va. and Sharon L. Johnson of Arizona; four sons, Charles W. Talhelm of Chambersburg, Ronald R. Talhelm of Houston, Texas. Larry E. Talhelm of Martinsburg, W.Va. and Curtis L. Talhelm of Fredericksburg, Va.; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Patsy Cordell, Ima Souders and Zetta Glass, all of St. Thomas, and Leona Mackey of Chambersburg; special friend, Betty Divens of Waynecastle; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Florence Hopkins, who died in 1990.
Graveside services were held the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 2 in Salem cemetery, Greene Township, with Chaplain Charles Ryan officiating. Graveside military honors were conducted by the honor guard of the Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post 1599.
The family requests the omission of flowers.

Helen I. Truax Carbaugh
Helen I. Truax Carbaugh, 72, of 5350 Apple Cross Ave., Apt. 3, Chambersburg, died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon, Oct. 6, 2007 in her home.
Born Jan. 1, 1935 in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mabel (Etter) Rummel.
She had worked in the deli at Sunnyway Diner, Greencastle, and also at the former Stanley Co., Chambersburg.
She was a member of the Greencastle Church Of God, where she was a Sunday School teacher and was active in the ladies ministry.
While living in Greencastle, she attended the Otterbein United Brethren Church of Greencastle and served as a Sunday School teacher.
She was a graduate of Chambersburg High School.
She enjoyed listening to Gospel blue grass music, collecting bears and dolls.
She is survived by her husband, Guy R. Carbaugh of Greencastle; a son, Michael S. Truax of Chambersburg; a daughter, Linda K. Truax of Frederick, Md.; three sisters, Mary Mills of Mechanicsburg, Jan Guyer of Chambersburg and Dotti Hines of Lehigh; and two grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter S. Truax Jr., in 1988 and by her second husband, Marlin Rotterbaugh.
Services were held the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 10 in the Greencastle Church Of God, Greencastle, with Rev. Floyd E. Myers officiating.
Burial was in the Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Gettysburg.

John E. Wagner
John E. Wagner, 82, of 9910 Thompson Dr. Greencastle, died unexpectedly at 10:37 P.M. Sunday October 14, 2007 in the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born November 16, 1924 in Williamsburg, Pa. he was the son of the late George Edgar and Ilo Mae (Ore) Wagner.
He worked as a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service having retired in 1972 after 30 years employment. He also worked at Morgan Drive Away as a dispatcher and at Nellie Fox Bowl Chambersburg.
Mr. Wagner was a life member of the Harry D. Zeigler V.F.W. Post 6319 of Greencastle and was a member of the Franklin County Bowling Association Hall Of Fame.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Wagner enjoyed bowling, coin collecting and being with his grandchildren.
Mr. Wagner graduated from Scotland School.
He and his wife, M. Louise (Pine) Wagner were married Nov. 15, 1981.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Ronald E. Pine of Marion, Randall A. "Pork" Pine of Hagerstown, Md., John E. Wagner Jr. of Greencastle and Jamie L. Wagner of Greencastle; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18 in the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, with Rev. Jeffrey A. Ehko officiating.
Burial with military honors provided by the Chambersburg V.F.W. Honor Guard Post 1599 will be in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday where the Greencastle V.F.W. will hold a memorial service at 7:30 p.m.
