Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Carl A. Brindle
Carl A. Brindle, 83, of 2070 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg, died, Thursday, Oct. 23 at his home.

Born July 6, 1920 in Shippensburg, he was the son of the late William Floyd and Beula Mae Bitner Brindle. He married, Helen Rebok Brindle on Aug. 30, 1941 in Shippensburg.

He was a 1939 graduate of the Shippensburg High School. He went on to graduate from Carlisle Commercial College, majoring in Accounting. He pursued advances courses in Accounting and related subjects at Penn State University, the University of Virginia and the University of Toledo.

Mr. Brindle was employed by the US Army Major Items Data Agency, last at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, retiring March 27, 1975 after approximately 30 years of service. While serving at Ft. Lee, Va., he was awarded the Meritorious Civilian Service Award, the second highest citation which can be awarded to a civilian in peace time. Mr. Brindle had received numerous outstanding performance awards while serving at Letterkenny and MIDA. He was also selected as a nominee for the 1968 Federal Council Civil Service Executive of the year while at Letterkenny.

He served in the US Army during World War II and Korea.

Mr. Brindle was a member of Middle Spring Presbyterian Church in Middle Spring, Pa.

He was a member of Cumberland Valley Lodge No. 315 F&AM, Scottish Rite Club, both of Shippensburg, the Harrisburg Consistory and Zembo Temple, both of Harrisburg, Franklin County Shrine Club of Waynesboro, B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 600, National Association of Retired Federal Employees No. 1063 and AARP Chapter 2840, all of Chambersburg and National AARP. He was a former member of Oscar M. Hykes American Legion No. 223 of Shippensburg and the Chambersburg Kiwanis Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, William A. Brindle of Chambersburg; a daughter, Janice B. Rearick of Greencastle; a sister, Helen Sterett of New Cumberland; four grandchildren; one step-granddaughter and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Grace P. Franklin Brindle.

Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. James Richwine and Rev. Dr. William H. Harter officiating. Interment will be in Norland cemetery, Chambersburg.

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Monday evening in the funeral home.

Members of Cumberland Valley Lodge No. 315 F&AM will conduct a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. Monday evening in the funeral home.

Russell C. Cameron
October 2, 1940 - June 3, 2008
Russell C. Cameron of Chambersburg died June 3, 2008 at his home. He is survived by his wife Marie Chantal (Peirre Louis) Cameron.

Born in Johnstown, PA he was a son of the late George E. and Lillian M. (Horner) Cameron. He Vietnam Veteran and serving in the U.S. Army. He retired from the Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two  daughters: Anita K. Chandler of Ijamsville, MD, Katia Cameron of Chambersburg, two sons: Rusty G. Cameron, and Matthew Cameron both of Chambersburg, three grandsons Justin and Joshua Chandler and Jacob Ayton. He is also survived by a sister Sally Rodgers and four brothers: Ira, Harry, Donald, and Richard Cameron.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, June 9, 2008 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM and one hour prior to the funeral on Monday.

Esther M. Mills
May 22, 1909 - November 16, 2008
Esther M. Mills, 99, a guest at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and formerly of 628 Lincoln Way West, Chambersburg, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, November 16, 2008 in the nursing home. Born May 22, 1909 in St. Thomas, she was a daughter of the late Joseph W. and Emma S. Lowens Walck. Esther was a homemaker most of her life. As a child, she attended and was baptized in the St. Paul Reformed Church of Marion. She had a great love for animals, especially cats. Her beloved husband, Arthur F. Mills, preceded her in death on August 10, 1955.

She is survived by a son, Delnore F. "Dilly" Mills and wife Sandra of Chambersburg; seven grandchildren, Marina Mills Tolbert of Chambersburg, Joseph Mills of Dauphin, Ryan Mills of Mercersburg, William "Denny" Mills of Fannettsburg, Robert Mills and Wanda Matthews, both of Manheim, and Cathy Mills Suders, who resides in the state of Washington; twelve great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Eugene E. "Ed" Mills on May 19, 1994, a grandson, Delnore F. Mills, Jr., three brothers, and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Thursday, November 20, 2008 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. Chaplain Chuck Ryan will officiate. Interment will follow in Lincoln cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 PM Wednesday and one hour prior to the service on Thursday in the funeral home.

Cora C. Forrester
November 30, 1918 - December 9, 2008
Cora C. Forrester, 90, formerly of Upper Strasburg, PA, died at 4:00 AM Tuesday, December 9, 2008 in the Orrstown Personal Care Home. Born November 30, 1918 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Joseph N. and Clara Jane Stewart Wenger.

A homemaker most of her life, she was employed with the former U-Wanna-Wash Frock Company and the former Stanley Company. She had worked for fifteen years as a hairdresser. Her beloved husband, Stoey W. Forrester, whom she married October 26, 1938, preceded her in death on May 20, 2000. Cora was a member of the First Church of God in Shippensburg, Pa.

She is survived by a son, Robert W. Forrester and wife Anna of Upper Strasburg; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a brother, Richard Wenger of New Franklin; In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Larry R. Forrester on February 11, 1995, and four brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, December 12, 2008, in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. Rev. Milton Herrold will officiate. Interment will follow in Salem cemetery near Chambersburg. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM Thursday in the funeral home.

Betty H. Mull
December 11, 1920 - June 9, 2008
Betty H. Mull, age 87, a resident of the Shook Home and formerly of 456 Ohio Avenue, Chambersburg, PA, died at 1:55 PM Thursday, June 5, 2008 in the nursing home. Born December 11, 1920 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late John I. and Eleanor Hoover. Betty was employed at the former People's Drug Store in Chambersburg for forty years. Early in her life she worked at the Olympia Candy Kitchen. She was a member of the Park Avenue United Methodist Church. Her beloved husband, Charles W. Mull, preceded her in death on November 19, 1984.

She is survived by her son, Kenneth L. Mull and wife Cindy of Newburg; two grandchildren, Casey F. Mull and Kody W. Mull, both of Newburg, a sister, Virginia Seilhamer of Chambersburg, a brother, Paul Hoover of Gettysburg and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Willis, John, Howard, and Charles Hoover, and two sisters, Anna Schellhase and Dorothy Hoover.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM on Monday, June 9, 2008 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA.. The Rev. Mark Woodring will officiate. Interment will follow in Norland cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Patricia “Patti” J. Hill
March 25, 1952 - November 18, 2008
Patricia "Patti" J. Hill, 56, of Shippensburg, PA, died Tuesday, November 18, 2008 in the emergency room of Chambersburg Hospital after a brief battle with cancer. Born March 25, 1952 in Hyattsville, MD, she was a daughter of Michael M. Cipolla of Louisville, KY and the late May G. Cox Cipolla of Warwickshire, England. Patti was a 1970 graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School and attended Shippensburg University. She at one time was employed at the Holiday Inn and was currently employed as the Human Resources Director with Servicemaster, Inc., both in Chambersburg. Patti worked for a number of years as a tutor with the Chambersburg Area School District and was an active volunteer with the Franklin County 4-H Therapeutic Riding Center. She loved animals and enjoyed reading, horseback riding, knitting, and bird watching.

In addition to her  Father, she is survived by two  daughters, Aimee Lee Hill of Hagerstown, MD and Jennifer Lynne Hill of Baltimore, MD; two grandchildren, Kiara Muriel May Branche and Kai Christian Branche; a sister, Carol Clark and husband Ray "Butch" of Scotland, PA; and two brothers, Michael D. Cipolla and partner Bill, Martin J. Cipolla and wife Pat, all of Texas. She is also survived by four nieces and nephews, Steven Clark of West Virginia, Debra Clark of Frederick, MD, Nicola Pismeny of Virginia, and Suzanne Lizak of Texas.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, November 21, 2008 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. Rev. Lonnie Shover will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 PM Friday in the funeral home. Interment will be private.

Gerald Stanley LaVerne Klock
September 7, 1931 - December 9, 2008
Gerald Stanley LaVerne Klock, age 77 of Chambersburg, PA died Tuesday, December 9, 2008 in Chambersburg Hospital. Born September 7, 1931 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Paul J. Klock and Regina Garland.

Mr. Klock worked at T.B. Woods Company in the foundry and the pattern shop; he was a member of the American Legion in Camp Hill, PA. He enjoyed camping and reading science fiction books as well as collecting trains and watching train movies. He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, Harrisonville, PA.

He is survived by his beloved wife Lois , who he married April 9, 1953, a daughter Robin Leedy (Brad) of Chambersburg, PA, and two grandchildren Justin Leedy (Brandi) and Morgan Leedy. Mr. Klock was preceded in death by his son Darryl L. Klock.

James E. Wright Sr.
August 27, 1943 - October 19, 2007
James E. "Jim" Wright, Sr., 64, of 3842 Letterkenny Road, Chambersburg, died Friday evening, October 19, 2007 in his home. Born August 27, 1943 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Eber and Hilda Mackey Wright. Jim was a 1961 graduate of the Milton Hershey School. He retired in 2000 from Letterkenny Army Depot where he had been employed for 33 years and was currently employed by Sunoco in Shippensburg. He had attended Grace Brethren Church. His hobbies included hunting, racing, football, and jogging.

Jim is survived by his wife, Grace Miller Wright, whom he married August 6, 1966, three children; James Wright, Jr., Jeff Wright and wife Debbie, and Penny Wiest, all of Chambersburg, a step-son, Troy Brandon of Chambersburg, three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Maxine Yeager of Chambersburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Johnson and a brother, Kenneth Wright.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, October 24, 2007 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road. The Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Interment will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 9:00-10:00 AM Wednesday in the funeral home.

Alesandro N. "Nick" Belardinelli
April 16, 1941 - June 5, 2008
Alesandro N. "Nick" Belardinelli, age 67, of 221 Perry Road, Fayetteville, PA, died at 6:20 AM, Thursday, June 5, 2008 in his home. Born April 16, 1941 in Bristol, CT, he was a son of the late Nicola and Katherine Walck Belardinelli. Nick was employed for 37 years with Henkles and McCoy, retiring in July of 2003. A US Army veteran, he was a member of Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion and the Marine Corps League, both in Chambersburg, as well as the South Mountain Fish and Game Club. A devoted husband,  Father, and grandfather, he was "Mr. Fix-it" to his family. Nick enjoyed going to breakfast with his friends at the Capital Restaurant and working on cars at Watson's Auto Repair.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Misner Belardinelli; two  daughters, Kimberly M. Belardinelli of Chambersburg and Rhonda Belardinelli Mentzer of Fayetteville; two granddaughters, Brittany Defenderfer of Chambersburg and Shalyn Mentzer of Fayetteville; a brother, John Keefer and wife Vi of Orrstown; a sister, Rita Naugle and husband Mike of Fayetteville; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 PM Tuesday in Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Private interment with military honors will be in Norland cemetery.

Frances J. Doherty
January 27, 1938 - November 14, 2008
Private graveside services will be held in St. Charles cemetery, Farmingdale, NY.

Frances J. Doherty, age 70, of Chambersburg, and formerly of Long Island, NY, died on Friday, November 14, 2008, following her battle with cancer. Born on January 27, 1938 in Queens, NY, she was a daughter of the late James H. and Margaret Garrity DeVoe. A member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Long Island, she had lived with her family in Chambersburg since retiring three years ago.

Frances is survived by her daughter, Debra Ann (and husband, Ray) DeMott, and two grandsons, James and Daniel DeMott, all of Chambersburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Doherty, and her brother, James DeVoe Jr. Private graveside services will be held in the St. Charles cemetery in Farmindale, NY. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center.

Ramona E. Carthey
April 1, 1925 - December 11, 2008
Ramona E. Carthey, 83, a resident at Penn Hall, passed away Thursday evening, December 11, 2008 in the emergency room of Chambersburg Hospital. Prior to residing at Penn Hall, Dr. and Mrs. Carthey resided at Luther Ridge near Chambersburg and were residents of Newburg, PA for 33 years. Born April 1, 1925 in Blairsburg, IA, she was a daughter of the late John Samuel and Iva Mae Bartlett Heffner. Mrs. Carthey was a graduate of the Blairsburg High School and received a BA Degree in Music from the University of Northern Iowa. Following graduation, she was a vocal music teacher in Marengo, IA. She continued her graduate studies in library science at the University of Iowa, Indiana University, Bloomington, IN, and Shippensburg University, Shippensburg, PA. Following receipt of her certification, she served as the librarian at Greencastle-Antrim High School, Greencastle, PA, for 12 years prior to retirement.

She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church near Chambersburg and a former member at First Presbyterian Church in Shippensburg for more than 30 years. Mrs. Carthey was a PEO member for 50 years and served as Chaplain. She served on the Newburg Borough Council and as a Judge of Elections. Other memberships include the Shippensburg University Faculty Wives, the Shippensburg Library Board, numerous Education Associations, and the Shippensburg Historical Society, where she served as a Docent. Mrs Carthey was an avid reader, enjoyed collecting antiques, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving husband, Dr. Wilbur O. Carthey, whom she married May 21, 1949; two  daughters, Ann V. Straley and husband Edward J. of Shippensburg, and Lisa B. Fichera and husband Michael L. of New Tripoli, PA; three grandchildren, Joshua E. Straley and wife Amy of Elizabethtown, PA, Beth A. Straley Houser and husband Jason of State College, PA, and Christina E. Straley of Shippensburg, PA; two great-granddaughters, Victoria and Emily Straley, both of Elizabethtown; and a sister, Marjorie Beth Heffner of Cedar Rapids, IA.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, December 17, 2008 in the Penn Hall Chapel, 1425 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg, PA. Pastor Beth Miller will officiate. Friends will be received at a reception immediately following the service. Private interment will be in Indiantown Gap National cemetery, Annville, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 417 Phoenix Drive, Suite A, Chambersburg, PA 17201.

Izaden Michael Amir Watson
April 2, 2010 - June 22, 2010
Izaden Michael Amir Watson, of Chambersburg, PA died unexpectedly, Tuesday, June 22, 2010. Born April 2, 2010 in Chambersburg, he was the son of Ian and Shakira Briggs Watson. He is survived by a brother, Imari Watson, his maternal grandparents Carmella Rasp and Michael Briggs, his paternal grandparents, Kathy Ibrahim and Alphanso Watson along with many aunts, uncles and great grandparents.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 25, 2010 at 2 PM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA 17202; where the Rev. Sean Coffey will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Friday. Interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens.

Gladys R. Beachley
November 1, 1921-July 11, 2010
Gladys R. Beachley age 88, of Quincy, PA and formerly of Fayetteville, PA; passed away on Monday. July 12, 2010 at Quincy United Methodist Home. Born November 1, 1921 in Chewsville, MD; she was the daughter of the late Raymond E. and Grace Morgan Beachley.

A graduate of Otterbein College in Westerville, OH, she received her bachelor's degree in education with a minor in music. Ms. Beachley worked at The Craft Press, Inc. as a bookkeeper, where she retired in 1998. A member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, she was also a member of the United Methodist Women, where she held a number of offices including President for a number of years; and served as the church organist for over 40 years. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling all over the world in her younger years.

Surviving are her siblings, Ronald E. Beachley of Chambersburg, PA, and Laura-Mai Cormany of Chambersburg, PA as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Janice Shuler.

A memorial service will be held at Otterbein United Methodist Church, 61 West Main St., Fayetteville, PA on Friday, July 16, 2010 at 10 AM; where Rev. Charles Keller and Pastor Tom Willis will officiate. Interment will be private. The family requests the omission of flowers, and if desired contributions may be made in her name to Otterbein United Methodist Church, 61 West Main St., Fayetteville, PA 17222. Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.

Lee L. Jones
April 1, 1929 - October 20, 2007
Lee L. Jones, 78, a resident of The Village of Laurel Run and formerly of 551 Willow Street, Chambersburg, died at 6:45 PM Saturday, October 20, 2007 in the nursing home. Born April 1, 1929 in Paxtang, PA, he was the son of the late Merle O. and Leona P. Russell Jones. Lee was a 1948 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School. Following graduation he joined the National Guard. His unit was activated in 1950 and he served in the Korean War. Lee retired March 26, 1976, from Letterkenny Army Depot after 26 ˝ years of service. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant United Brethren Church and the King's sons and  daughters Sunday School Class. He was a Life Member of Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW and Past Seam Squirrel of the Military Order of Cooties Conococheague Pup Tent #72. His other memberships included the National Association of Retired Federal Employees # 1063, AARP, and the Chambersburg Mall Walkers. Lee also enjoyed spending time camping. He was a former President of the Fayetteville Athletic Association and had at one time served as a Little League coach. A heart transplant recipient in 1988, Lee was an active member of the Franklin County Transplant Support Group. He was a Charter Life Member of the Medical Air Service Association.

He is survived by his wife, Esther Gelwicks Jones, whom he married October 19, 1949, three sons, Kenneth D. and wife Carolyn, and Donald L. Jones, all of Fayetteville, and Larry A. Jones and wife Susan of Lancaster, a daughter, Peggy Shaak and husband David of Mt. Pleasant, SC, five grandchildren, and two sisters, Janetta Brindle and husband Robert, and Virginia McNulty and husband William, all of Greencastle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Barnhart.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Thursday, October 25, 2007 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Christopher Little and Rev. Garry Culler will officiate. Interment with military honors by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 PM Wednesday in the funeral home.

Harry T. Park Jr.
Harry T. Park Jr., 70, of Chambersburg, died, Wednesday, Oct. 29 at the Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Aug. 16 in Robertsdale, Pa., he was the son of the late Harry T. and Maude Simmons Park. He married, Dorothy Cornelius Park on Aug. 18, 1956.

Mr. Park was a Purchasing Agent and Accountant at the former DeRose Industries in Chambersburg, where he worked for more than 30 years.

He served in the US Marines during the Korean War.

He was of the Protestant faith.

Mr. Park was a member of Landis-McLeaf Detachment Marine Corps League and a life member of Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599, both of Chambersburg and a member of Lone Star Hunting Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading and civil war history.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Catherine Ciucci of Everett, Pa.; five brothers, Donald L. Park of Dallastown, Pa., Thomas G. Park of Red Lion, Pa., Kenneth R. Ciucci of York, Pa., David N. Park and Larry E. Park, both of Chambersburg and a number of nieces and nephews.

Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Tolbert.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, Saturday, Nov. 1 at 2 p.m. with Rev. William K. “Russ” Lee officiating. Interment will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Military graveside service conducted by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to Summit Cancer Service, 260 North Seventh Street, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.
