Mark A. Pierceall
Mark A. Pierceall, 45, of 265 N. Carlisle St., Lot 27, Greencastle, died at 4:20 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2006 in the Chambersburg Hospital. He had been in declining health the past several years.
Born Feb. 21, 1961 in Springfield, Ill., he was the son of the late Ernest E. and Irma Parscenski) Pierceall.
He was last employed as a chef at Vision Quest in South Mountain and was formerly employed at the Travel Lodge, Chambersburg.
Mr. Pierceall was a 1979 graduate of the GreencastleAntrim High School and attended Hagerstown Junior College.
He had attended the St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, Greencastle.
Mr. Pierceall enjoyed cooking and communicating with friends on the innernet.
He is survived by two brothers, Paul E. Pierceall of Fayetteville and Timothy K. Pierceall of Greencastle; a sister, Katrina M. Pierceall of Fayetteville; an aunt; and several cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Michael J. Pierceall in 1994.
A graveside service was held the morning of Monday, July 10 in the Cedar Hill cemetery, Greencastle.
The family requests the omission of flowers and that memorial contributions be made to the Pierceall Family, c/o Timothy Pierceall, 265 N. Carlisle St., Lot 27, Greencastle, Pa. 17225.

Virginia May Gordon
Virginia May Gordon, 86, of 360 E. Baltimore St., Greencastle, died at 10:45 p.m. Monday, June 26, 2006, in Martinsburg Veterans' Hospital, Martinsburg, W. Va. She had been critically ill for the week preceding her death.
Born Jan. 2, 1920 in Greencastle, she was the daughter of the late Bruce and Elizabeth (Sollenberger) Gordon.
She lived her early life in Greencastle, graduating from high school in 1937. She attended Juniata College for two years, and then completed her nurses training at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Md. She enlisted in the Army immediately after her training because she wanted to "do her part" to help in the war. She distinguished herself in service at a hospital near Sherbourg, France, and returned to the United States after VJ Day, June 1945.
Miss Gordon was then stationed at Percy Jones General Hospital in Battle Creek, Mich. Following her service there, she returned to Juniata for additional schooling, then held a position in Greencastle as school nurse for two years. In December 1949, she accepted a position at Chambersburg Hospital and retired in January 1985.
She enjoyed playing golf several times a week and swam regularly at the YMCA.
Miss Gordon was a member of the Greencastle Church of the Brethren.
She was a member of the Loyal daughters of Greencastle, a life member of Greencastle VFW Post 6319 and Greencastle Senior Women's Club.
As a final gift of service to humanity, she donated her body for anatomical research.
She is survived by her sister, Mrs. (Ruth) Olen Fox; one nephew; and two nieces.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Glen Gordon, John E. Gordon and Robert F. Gordon; and one sister, Elizabeth Foust.
A memorial service was held the afternoon of Sunday, July 9, in the Greencastle Church of the Brethren with Pastor Leon Yoder officiating.
Michael "Mike" Richard Gordon
Michael "Mike" Richard Gordon, 54, of Rollingwood Lane, Mooresville, N.C., died Thursday, July 13, 2006, at Presbyterian Hospital, Huntersville, N.C.
Born Jan. 4, 1952, in Waynesboro, he was a son of Richard E. and Julia Hegland Gordon.
Mr. Gordon was a graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School with the Class of 1969.
He was a district manager for RSC Rental Equipment.
Mr. Gordon served in the United States Marine Corps and was a Vietnam veteran.
He was a life member of the VFW Post 6319, Greencastle.
Mr. Gordon was an avid boater, fisherman and golfer.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Vicki Scown Gordon; children, Michael R. Gordon II of Tuscon, Ariz., Jennifer Parker and husband, Richard, of Troutman, N.C. and Christopher J. Borst and wife, Becky, of Mooresville; grandchildren, Michael R. Gordon III, Yesenia M. Gordon, Taylor A. Ayers, Jessica Parker, Madison Parker, Sydney Borst, Hayley Borst and MaKayla Borst; sister, Susan M. Downin of Waynesboro; brother, Timothy S. Gordon and wife, Barbara, of Hagerstown, Md.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a niece, Amanda (Downin) Downey.
Services were held the afternoon of Saturday, July 15 in the Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel, Mooresville, with Rev. Mark McClamrock officiating. Military honors were provided by the Iredell County Veterans Council.

Jack A. Lanehart
Jack A. Lanehart, 80, of 53 Edward Drive, Greencastle, died at 8:10 a.m. Monday July 17, 2006 in the Chambersburg Hospital. He had been in declining health since suffering a stroke on June 26.
Born Aug. 17, 1925 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Marshall and Mary Susan (Diehl) Lanehart.
In his earlier life, he worked as a freight agent for the former Pennsylvania Railroad. He was the operator of Lanehart Construction Co., Greencastle, from 1958 1972. He then became a consultant in 1973 for the Waynesboro Construction Co. and was later coowner of Greenway Development Co. He was last self-employed with Westwind Seafood and Produce.
Mr. Lanehart attended Greencastle High School and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving in the South Pacific Theater.
He was a member of the Rescue Hose Co. 1 of Greencastle and life member of the Harry D. Zeigler V.F.W. Post 6319 of Greencastle. He also was a life member of the Chambersburg Club and a member of the Hub City Club of Shippensburg, Pa.
Mr. Lanehart enjoyed playing the card game pinochle and was an avid Penn State and Washington Redskins fan.
He and his wife, Roberta W. (Wilhide) Lanehart were married Feb. 28, 1957 in Greencastle.
In addition to his wife of 49 years, he is survived by a son, Thomas M. Lanehart of Greencastle; three daughters, Julie Ann Deardorff of York, Laura Sue Petersheim of Greencastle, and Lisa J. Sankbeil of La Grange, Ga.; one brother, Marshall Lanehart of Waynesboro; eight grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter; three step grandchildren; one step great grandson; and nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Sheffield and Nancy McCleaf; and by a son-inlaw, Douglas Deardorff.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 21 at Cedar Hill cemetery, Greencastle, with Rev. Walter A. Stuart officiating.
It was his request that there would not be a public viewing, but the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to American Diabetes Association, C/O Joan Goetz, 219 W. Second St., Waynesboro, Pa. 17268.
The Greencastle V.F.W. Post 6319 will hold a memorial service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
Ruth A. Grove West
Ruth A. Grove West, 82, of Edgewater, Md. (Saunders Point) died Thursday, July 6, 2006, at Anarundel Medical Center, Annapolis, Md., following a lengthy illness.
Born Dec. 28, 1923 in Greencastle, she was the daughter of the late Rev. John F. and Almeda L. Grove.
She was a graduate of Greencastle High School and a graduate of Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Cumberland, Md. in 1946.
She was employed by the National Polio Foundation caring for victims of polio epidemics throughout the country. She also did private duty nursing throughout her career. She kept her nursing license current through 2006 and continued to stay abreast of the latest developments in nursing care. She took courses through AACC and NAMI from 1974 to 1990.
She took a major role in the family's retail business selling fireplaces and related items on West Street in Annapolis, Md.
She enjoyed crocheting and redoing old furniture.
She was married in 1949 to the late John B. West, who passed away in 2002.
She is survived by three sons: John L. West of Pikesville, Md., William C. West of Edgewater, Md. and Thomas L. West of Grasonville, Md.; one sister: Esther G. (Mrs. Stanley) Johnson of Chambersburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers: Dwight, John and Ethan Grove; two sisters, Lois Grove Baer and Naomi Grove Shohat.
A memorial service was held the afternoon of Sunday, July 16 at the University Park Church of the Brethren, 4413 Tuckerman St., Hyattsville, Md. 20782.
Burial will be at a later date at Arlington National cemetery.

Barbara J. (Talhelm) Harsh
Barbara J. (Talhelm) Harsh, 65, of 14683 Sherwood Drive, Greencastle, died at 4:55 p.m., Wednesday, July 19, 2006 in Manor Care Health Services, Chambersburg. She had been in failing health for several months and critically ill for the past four weeks.
Born Sept. 15, 1940 in Greencastle, she was the daughter of Harold and Doris V. (Bemiller) Talhelm. She spent her early life in Greencastle.
Mrs. Harsh graduated from South Hagerstown High School, Hagerstown, Md. with the Class of 1958.
She served with the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy before continuing her military career with the U.S. Navy Reserve, Maryland National Guard and Pennsylvania National Guard. She was also employed as a clerk at Fort Ritchie before being transferred to the Pentagon, Washington D.C., where she worked as a clerk and liaison before retiring in 1994.
She and her husband, Mervin R. Harsh, were married on Jan. 20, 1962. They had lived at their present residence since 1989.
Mrs. Harsh was a member of Downsville Christian Church, Downsville, Md. She was also a member of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 599, Chambersburg, AMVETS Post 224, Chambersburg, and American Legion Post 202, Williamsport, Md.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Mark C. Harsh of Greencastle; a grandson; five brothers, Harold Talhelm of Chambersburg, Jack Talhelm of Greencastle, John Talhelm of Chambersburg, Frank Talhelm of Greencastle and Greg Talhelm of Chambersburg; a sister, Jill Noll of Greencastle; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Marion Talhelm.
Services were held the morning of Saturday, July 22 in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Rev. Greg Jones officiating.

Carlton H. Main
Carlton H. "Pap" Main, 80, of 28 North Carlisle St., Greencastle, died at 4:05 a.m., Saturday, July 29, 2006 in Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown, Md. He had been in failing health for the past seven months.
Born May 21, 1926 in Frederick, Md., he was the son of the late Charles H. and Barbara (Hamilton) Main. He lived his early life in Frederick.
Mr. Main attended Buckeystown School for Boys and Frederick High School.
He served in the United States Navy from May 1944 until May 1946 and also in the United States Marine Corps from May 1946 until Sept. 1953 during World War II.
He and his wife of 52 years, Anita L. (Kennedy) Main, were married April 4, 1954 in Frederick. They had lived at their present residence for the past 20 years.
Mr. Main was employed as a plumber for Keystone Homes, Waynesboro, until his retirement in 1991. Following his retirement, he was "the Pizza Man" at White Tail Ski Resort, Mercersburg, for 10 years.
He was a life member of Clarence Armstrong VFW Post 6241, Mercersburg. He also was a member of Frank L. Carbaugh American Legion Post 373 and Harry D. Zeigler VFW Post 6319, both of Greencastle and Red Men Association Tribe 84, Williamsport, Md.
He enjoyed golf, camping, sports and reading.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Carol A. Christophel and Saundra L. Shockey, both of Greencastle; three sons, Denny L. Main of Chambersburg, Douglas E. Main of Greencastle and Jeffrey L. Main of Mercersburg; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Katherine Houck of Washington D.C. and Charlotte Beaver of Greencastle; one brother, Grayson Main of Biglerville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Main.
Services were held the morning of Wednesday, Aug. 2 in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Pastor Lynn Munson officiating.
Burial followed in Brown's Mill cemetery, Kauffman, with military graveside honors conducted by the Honor Guard of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, Chambersburg.

Norma Doris Pentz
Norma Doris (Linkous) Pentz, 79, a resident of Denton Rehab and Nursing Center, Denton, Texas, died Thursday, July 27, 2006, in Presbyterian Hospital, Denton. She had been ill for the last three years.
Born July 27, 1927 in Roanoke, Va., she was the daughter of the late Houston and Minnie (Fleming) Linkous. She spent her early life in Winchester, Va.
She attended Handley High School in Winchester.
Mrs. Pentz and her husband, Austin J. Pentz, were married in Winchester and later moved to the Pittsburgh area. Mr. Pentz died May 8, 1981.
She was employed by G.C. Murphy, Pittsburgh, as a retail clerk for more than 10 years before retiring.
She is survived by two daughters: Linda Lee Pentz of Lewisville, Texas and Shirley Ann Demko of Pittsburgh; five grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister and five brothers.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2 in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Rev. Anna Straight officiating.
Burial will follow in Cedar Hill cemetery, Greencastle.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
