Elizabeth Colaneri, 87, a Scranton resident, died Sunday Morning, September 25, 2005, at the Jewish Home. She was the widow of Michael Colaneri who died Dec. 18, 1974.
Born in Dunmore, she was a daughter of the late Ira and Margaret Oney Wombacker. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and in her younger years she was employed as a beautician. She was a retired employee of Scranton Lace Co. and after her retirement she assisted her son in his business, The Mulberry Bush.
She was a special woman, a loving mother and grandmother, who will be deeply missed. Surviving are two sons, Michael, and wife Helene, Scranton and Ira, also of Scranton. Two grandchildren Michael and Brianna, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister Sophia Leonard and three brothers Glen, Elwood and Ira.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 9AM from the August J. Haas Funeral Home, Inc., 202 Pittston Ave. Scranton with Mass at 9:30 in Immaculate Conception Church, Taylor Ave. Interment , Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst. Friends may call Tuesday 4 to 8 PM.

Elizabeth Wright Doherty , August 27, 2005. Elizabeth " Betty" Wright Doherty, 93, a South Scranton Resident, died Saturday at VNA Hospice at Moses Taylor Hospital. She was the widow of Frank Doherty and was preceded in death by her first husband, John Wright. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Max and Magdelena Matthias Ludwig. She was a member of St. Mary Of The Assumption Church and it's Altar and Rosary Society. She was one of the founding members of the South Scranton After 50 Club. She was a member of Nativity Golden Age and she enjoyed her trips to Atlantic City. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be deeply missed. Surviving is a daughter, Betty Riehl and husband, Fred, Point Pleasant, NJ and a son, John Wright and wife Christine, of Columbia, MD., 4 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Matthew and Carl, and three sisters: Madeline Evans, Margaret Heil Marshall, and Marie Krueger. The funeral will be Tuesday at 9 AM from the August J. Frank J. Greco, a South Scranton resident, died Friday, August 12, in Mercy Hospice. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late John and Grace Gentile Greco. He was a member of St. Francis Of Assisi Church, was a retired employee of Consolidated Moulded Products and after his retirement he was employed by the University Of Scranton. He was a World War 2 Army Veteran. Surviving is a brother, Joseph of Carbondale and a sister, Joan Castelli, Scranton and 2 nephews and 3 grandnieces. He was preceded in death by two sisters: Beatrice Greco and Mary Greco. The Funeral is private and held at the convenience of the family.

She was the widow of Louis Brozzetti who died May 26, 2005 and the couple was married 64 years. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Sarah Duggan Wrobleski. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a devotee of St. Ann. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Surviving is a daughter, Mary Brozzetti Evans, Covington Twp. and a son Gino, Old Forge, a brother, Richard, Scranton 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters: Mary Wrobleski and Geraldine Wierzinski and 5 brothers: Joseph, Edward, John, Thomas and Paul. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late George and Cecelia Burnum Crolly. He was a member of Nativity Of Our Lord Church and was a retired employee of Penn Auto Service and Supply. He was an army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a loving husband, Father, brother and grandfather. He loved to repair gadgets and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play baseball. Also surviving are two daughters: Maria and husband Joseph Tomachick, Scranton and Rochelle Crolly, Scranton, 4 grandchildren: Joseph, Michael, Robert and Donna Tomachick, One brother, George, Scranton and nieces and nephews. Joseph DeMichele,90, a Scranton resident, died Saturday evening, August 6, 2005, at home. He and his wife, the former Mary Kakareka, were married 64 years. Born in Quebec, Canada, he was the son of the late Michelangelo and Antonietta DiBenedetto DeMichele. He was a member of St. Mary Of The Assumption Church, Scranton, he was a lifelong member of the Elks Club. While residing in New York City, he was a union official and organizer of the Retail Clerks International, affiliated with the American Federation of Labor. Following WW two, he resided in Scranton and owned and operated several produce and nursery businesses. He was a real estate developer and owned many properties including the Blakely Plaza on the Carbondale Highway. He was active in local politics including serving as judge of elections for the 12th ward, 5th district. He was a loving husband, Father, grandfather and great grandfather. Also surviving are two sons: Michael D. DeMichele PHD and wife Rosemary and Joseph E. DeMichele and wife Carole, both of Scranton. Four grandchildren: Dr. Michael DeMichele and wife Dr. Karen Kormis, Att. Christine Consiglio and husband Att. Michael Consiglio, Jacqueline Kloss, PHD and husband Att. Brian Kloss, and Lisa McCarthy and Husband E.J., also 4 great grandchildren , two brothers: John and Patrick, both of New York City, one sister, Helen Calcango, Tucson, Az. and nieces and nephews. Marianne Dorio Ceresko, North Plainfield, NJ, a former Scranton resident, died Friday, July 8, 2005 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy, NJ. She and her husband, Joseph F. Ceresko were married 59 years. Born July 29, 1918 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Grace Salamido Dorio. She attended Scranton Technical High School and was a retired employee of McCrorey's in North Plainfield. She was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, North Plainfield. She was a loving wife, mother and sister.
Also surviving is a son, Joseph E. Ceresko, Middlesex, NJ., A brother Martin Dorio, Scranton. Four sisters: Pauline Long, Christine Dudzinski and Theresa Haefle, all of Scranton and Rose Sarcinelli, Endicott, NY. and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters: Mary Moran, Josephine Dorio and Margaret Marseco.

She was the widow of John J. Cryan who died in 1976. Born in Moosic, Pa. she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Theresa Burke Walsh. She was a member of Nativity Of Our Lord Church and it's Combined Society. She was a loving mother to three sons and a loving grandmother and aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Winifred's family wishes to thank her Eucharistic Ministers Marita McGoff and Diane Parente, who brought her Holy Communion and helped her in her faith and church.

Helen E. Leonard, 87, a South Scranton resident, died Sunday, June 26, 2005 at home. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Catherine Burke Leonard. Helen was a devout Catholic and was a dedicated member of Nativity Of Our Lord Church, South Scranton. She was also a member of it's Societies. She was well known for her Texas Weiner booth at the annual Parish Festival. In her youth, she was noted for her swimming skills. She was a National Long Distance Swimming Champion. She was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and Marywood University where she graduated with a Bachelor Of Science and Masters Degrees. For 18 years, she was chair of Marywood Health and Physical Education Dept. For 20 years, she was Director Of Athletics. She was also employed by Marywood University for 33 years as a Professor of Health and Physical Education. Helen coached Field Hockey, Women's Tennis, softball and basketball. She was the founder of Marywood's Water Ballet Program. She received numerous awards including: Marywood's COR-MARIE Medal, Inducted into Marywood's Wall Of Fame in 1996, and was the recipient of Northeastern Pennsylvania Sports Hall Of Fame Meritorious Achievement Award in 1990 Helen was an inspiration to all who knew her and will be missed by all the people whose lives she touched, especially her best friend, Otto 111. Helen also participated in the phone telethon at St. Joseph's Center's annual picnic. She was a member of the Elmhurst Country Club.
Surviving are nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Thomas and William Leonard and two sisters: Mary Cimino and Florence King.

Marjorie Castanzo Waibel, Died June 23, 2005 Marjorie Castanzo Waibel, 48, A resident of Daleville, died Thursday evening at home after a two year battle with ovarian cancer. She resided in Daleville for the last 18 years with her husband, David A. Waibel, MD. Born in Scranton, she was raised in South Scranton by her parents George and Marjorie Brock Castanzo, DDS., Scranton. She was a member of St. Mary Of The Assumption Church, South Scanton. Marjorie was a graduate of Gwyned Mercy University and received a Masters Degree in psychology from Marywood University, Scranton. She was employed by Mercy Hospital, Scranton, in the microbiology laboratory for 23 years. Marjorie was an avid reader of European and Civil War History. She loved all people, her animals, and gardening. She will be remembered by her family and her many good friends as being compassionate and a good listener. She was a loving wife, daughter, sister and aunt.
Also surviving are three sisters: Kathy Annacarto, Madison, Pa., Christine Castanzo, Scranton and Marie Taylor, Taylor. Four brothers: James, Landisville, Pa., Paul, Westchester, George and Michael, Scranton. Also surviving are Aunts, Uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Joseph and Erna McLaughlin Brock and her paternal grandparents George and Mildred Lula Castanzo and one uncle, Robert Castanzo.

Helen M. Janssen, 98, a South Scranton resident, died Sunday , December 2, 2007 in Mercy Hospice Unit of Mercy Hospital. She was the widow of Andrew Janssen, Sr. who died February 19, 2002. Born in North Scranton, daughter of the late James and Anastasia Corish Anglin; she attended Holy Rosary School and was a member of Nativity Of Our Lord Church. She was a member of Nativity Altar and Rosary Society, Nativity Golden Age, Holy Rosary Senior Citizens Club, DCCW, Ancient Order Of Hiberians and Echo Club. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend whose strong faith and selflessness will be a legacy to all who knew and loved her.

Josephine Rose Neri Mela, 75, a lifelong South Scranton resident, died Friday, November 30, 2007, at home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the widow of Nello Mela who died October 6, 1986. Born in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late Benedetto and Alda Pagnani Neri.
She was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, class of 1949 and was a member of St. Francis Of Assisi Church. She retired from the University Of Scranton May 30, 1997. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend whose strong faith and selflessness will be a legacy to all who knew and loved her.

Jean R. Skaluba
Jean R. Skaluba, a South Scranton resident, died Tuesday morning, November 27, 2007, in CMC after an illness. She and her husband, Constant F. Skaluba, were married in May, 1950. Born in Scranton on February 11, 1922, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Edwards DeMuth.
She was a graduate of St. Mary Of The Assumption High School, Class of 1940. Jean attended Marywood College and The University Of Scranton where she met Constant. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary Of The Assumption Church and belonged to the Altar And Rosary Society as well as the North Scranton Rotary Annes. Jean's Generosity to many charities and friends was known throughout the community. Jean worked at the Lackawanna County Courthouse until she married.
Jean raised four children and enjoyed seeing them as much as possible once they left home. She enjoyed cooking and was a tremendously skilled baker. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother and was extremely generous to many charities and groups. Also surviving are a brother, Msgr. George R. DeMuth, Pastor Emeritus of St. Mary Of The Assumption Church, Scranton, and a sister Marion Kelly and husband James, Venice, FL., three sons John Skaluba and wife Roseanne, Dickson City, Curt Skaluba and wife Kathleen, Leesburg, VA., and George Skaluba and wife Pam, Manassas, VA., and a daughter Jane Skaluba and husband Joseph Reed, Mansfield, OH. John J. Palumbo
John J. Palumbo, 94, a former resident of South Scranton, died Monday, November 19, 2007 in St. Mary's Villa, Elmhurst. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, the former Helen Srudotto. Born in South Side, he was the son of the late noted contractor Salvatore Palumbo and wife Josephine Abatti Palumbo. John was a well known construction contractor and was the president of J.J. Palumbo Contractor, Inc., which he founded over 60 years ago. He was a graduate of St. Thomas High School and attended St. Thomas College and Nazareth Hall Academy. He was a member of St. Francis Of Assisi Church and was an Army Veteran of WWII. He was a member of the Dante Literary Society.
Surviving are nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by four sisters; Mary Cupple, Josephine Capitano, Nancy Notari and Teresa Moran and three brothers; Salvatore Palumbo, Jr. , Sherwood Palumbo and Frank Palumbo.
