Gregg R. Tonkin
Matamoras, Pa. - Services will be held today, Wednesday, for Gregg R. Tonkin, 60, of Matamoras who passed away unexpectedly at Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis, NY. He married Margery Hulst Tonkin who survives at home.
He was born on August 12, 1948, in Scranton, the son of the late Howard P. Tonkin and Lenore C. Spangenberg Tonkin, who survives and lives in Carbondale. Gregg worked as a sales consultant for AT&T in Dallas, Texas, and was a member of the Communication Workers of America Union.
Gregg was a former Chief of Police for Westfall Township, he was a member of the Planning Commission for Westfall Township; former Supervisor for The Pike County Communications Center, Milford; and a former member of the Westfall Fire Dept. Gregg was a local businessman who operated several movie theatres including the Tri-State Drive-In, Matamoras, with his wife Margery. He and his wife also formerly owned and operated the Flo-Jean Restaurant in Port Jervis, NY.
In addition to his wife and mother he is survived by: his son Raymond J. Tonkin, Esq. and his wife Michelle of Hawley; two daughters, Disa D. Tonkin and Corinne C. Tonkin both of Matamoras; three grandchildren, Zatoria Brown, Garrett Tonkin and Grant Tonkin; three brothers, Gary G. Tonkin and his wife Barbara of Phoenix, Arizona, Glenn Tonkin and his wife Alice of Carbondale, and Garth Tonkin and his wife Marie of Carbondale and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Wednesday Dec. 31, from 2-5pm at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. Main St., Port Jervis, NY. Funeral Services will be held at 5 pm, Dec. 31 a the Funeral Home. Interment will be private.

Jennifer L. Gray
Hawley, Pa. - Services were held for Jenny Gray, loving wife of Chris Gray, devoted mom to Skyler Gray, who was called home to Heaven on Feb. 10, 2009, in Tucson, AZ.
Jenny’s adventurous spirit, love of live, artistic talent, generous heart and passion for her family will be sadly missed always and forever by all who knew and loved her, including many friends and loved ones in Spring Hill, KS, Hawley, and Oro Valley, AZ. Jenny loved hiking, camping, music, art, traveling, and most of all being a wife and mom. Jenny attended the Pittsburg Art Institute and was employed at the Spring Hill High School prior to their move to Oro Valley last November.
Jenny was born on Dec. 20, 1976, in Newton, NJ.
She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Sandra (Gibb) and Dan Gelderman of Hawley; sister LuAnn Van Orden of Shillington; Father and mother in-law Chuck and Gloria Gray of Oro Valley, AZ; mother in-law Eleanor Gray of Scottsdale, AZ; sisters in-law Lisa Gray of Scottsdale, AZ; and Brittany McDonough of Naperville, IL; sister and brother in-law Brianne and Chris Hamilton of Oro Valley, AZ; brother in-law Brandon Parish of Reno, NV; nieces and nephews Monique Gray and Isiah Hudson of Scottsdale, AZ; Ava Hamilton of Oro Valley, AZ; Mackenzie and Jeremiah Van Orden of Shillington. Jenny was preceded in death by her Father Lewis Van Orden.
A Celebration of Life Service was held, Sunday, Feb. 15 at the Vistoso Memorial Chapel, 2285 E. Rancho Vistoso Blvd, Oro Valley, AZ. Donations in Jenny’s honor may be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Philip Walter O’Neil
Greeley, Pa. - A Memorial Service will be held for Philip Walter O’Neil, 72, of Greeley who died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008 at home surrounded by his loving family after his courageous battle with multiple myeloma. His wife of 25 years: Kathleen M.(Tamplin) O’Neil survives.
Mr. O’Neil was born August 6, 1936 in East Stroudsburg and was the son of the late Jack and Eudella (Lesoine) O’Neil.
He graduated with B.S. from East Stroudsburg State Teachers College and earned his M.S. from Bowdin College. He retired as a math teacher at William Tennant High School, Lower Moreland High School and more recently at Delaware Valley School District. He enjoyed most of his retirement being outdoors, and especially loved hunting and fishing. He touched lives of many and those who knew him, loved him. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by: three sons, Jack O’Neil of San Diego, CA, Shawn O’Neil of Basalt, CO, Scott O’Neil of Fayetteville, NY; two stepdaughters, Nancy Fish of Shawnee and Linda Agasar of Newtown; several grandchildren; one sister: Vesta Kuhn of Coopersburg and one brother: Jay O’Neil of Darmouth, MA, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Dec. 12, at 11 am at St Luke’s Lutheran Church, Greeley with Rev. Donald Beck, officiating.
Cremation will be at Lake Region Crematory in Lake Ariel.

William E. Nolan
White Mills, Pa. - Services will be held Tuesday for William E. Nolan, 82, of White Mills and formerly of East Brunswick, NJ, and Sayreville, NJ, who died Friday, Dec. 5, 2008 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, the former Helen T. Stark.
Born December 4, 1926 in Rochester, NY, he was the son of the late Michael and Mildred Nolan Thompson. He was raised at St. Mary’s Home for Boy’s in Rochester until the age of 14 and then lived in foster homes. At age 17, he enlisted in the US Navy and served during World War II in the Pacific Theater and Alaska. He was a life time member of the VFW Post 133 in East Brunswick, NJ.
In 1951, Bill received a degree in accounting from Long Island University. Later he became interested in politics and was elected Town Clerk of East Brunswick, NJ. In 1988, he retired from J.T.P.A. as the Executive Director and moved to White Mills, PA.
Bill was a member of the Friendly sons of the Shillelagh Bag Pipe Band in Old Bridge, NJ. A devoted Catholic and parishioner, he was a member of St. Joseph Church in White Mills.
He and his wife enjoyed a wonderful life together with many blessings.
Also surviving are his sons Michael and wife Nancy of Andover, MN and Mark and wife Pamela of Bath; daughters Aleta and husband Jan Grodzki of Robbinsville, NJ, Veronica and husband James Cairns of East Brunswick, NJ, and Patricia and husband Christopher Germain of Monmouth Junction, NJ; a step-son Richard Mathers of Taylor; step- daughters Karen and husband Steve Alikas of Hawley, Cheryl Bergamini of Old Bridge, NJ, and Maryann and husband Robert Kittle of Jackson, NJ; 16 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; sisters Noreen Mady of Melbourne, FL, and Catherine Sleeman of Webster, NY; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a step-son Timothy Mathers in 1986.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church in White Mills on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008 at 10 am. Interment will follow in Queen of Peace Cemetery in Hawley. Friends may visit the Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale, PA on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9.

Ferdinand E. Angelis
South Canaan, Pa. - Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 3, Ferdinand E. Angelis, 78, a resident of South Canaan Twp., died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, in Hospice Community Care, Dunmore. His widow is the former Shirley Kester and the couple was married for 54 years.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Claude and Selma Buscarini Angelis. He was a member of St. Eulalia’s Church, Elmhurst, and was a Marine Corporal during the Korean War. He was the chef and along with his wife owned Ferdy’s Gourmet Restaurant in Hawley for 23 years. He was an avid horseback rider and following his retirement, he devoted his time to farming organic vegetables on his farm.
Also surviving are: three daughters Pam Carini, Elmhurst, Claudia LeVasseur and husband Frank, South Canaan Twp., Suzy Pino, Colorado Springs, CO, and two sons Anthony Angelis, Glenwood Springs, CO, and Mark Angelis South Cannan Twp., a sister Claudette Clegg, Scranton and nieces and nephews.

Harold P. Houston
Harold P. Houston, a South Scranton resident, died Friday, December 29, 2006, in Mercy Hospice. He was the husband of the late Jeanne Argust Houston, who died Dec. 19, 1998.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late George J. and Agnes Williams Houston. He was a member of Nativity Of Our Lord Church. He was an Army veteran of WW11 serving with the Army Engineers in the campaigns of Algeria, French Morroco, Tunisia, Naples-Foggia and Rome-Arno. He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars and Three Arrow Hearts and seven overseas stripes. He was employed by the Sunday Times and the Scranton Times for 53 years.
At his retirement he was the district manager. He was a member of the 50 Year Club of The Scranton Times. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 948 and the Veterans Of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are four sons Harold Houston Jr., Stow, Ohio, John Houston, Clifton, N. J., Jerry Houston, Lake Ariel, Pa. and David P. Houston, West Grove, Pa.. Also 7 grandchildren Christopher, Jennifer, Courtney, Kevin, Meghan, Maura and Rory and two great grandchildren Ainsley and Katelyn. Also two brothers George J. Houston, Scranton and James, Arlington, Va. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Helen Houston.

Rosemary L. Miller
Rosemary L. Miller, a South Scranton resident, died Wednesday, December 13, 2006, in Mountain Rest Nursing Home. She was the widow of William C. Miller, Sr., who died May 27, 1972. Born in Scranton on October 27, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Amadeo (Benny) and Matilda Sartor DeStefano. She was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, Class of 1933 and graduated from Lackawanna Business College in 1934. She was a lifelong member of Nativity Of Our Lord Church and was a member of the Catholic Golden Age. She was a retired employee of the Globe Store. She had been a fan of all CBS soap operas.
Surviving is a son William C. Miller Jr., and wife Betty, Scranton, with whom she resided and a daughter Peggy Paroby and husband, Daniel, Scranton. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, four adopted grandchildren, one great granddaughter, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a brother Joesph M. DeStefano Sr., in 1996 and two sisters: Anna Louise DeStefano, who died in 1922 and Elizabeth M. Nagle, who died in 1993.

Michael Rybnik
Michael Rybnik, 83, a lifelong South Scranton resident, died Thursday, December 7, 2006, in VNA Hospice at Moses Taylor Hospital. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Michael and Bridget Rusczyk Rybnik. He was a member of Sacred Hearts Church, South Scranton. He was employed by Lonnergan's, Kane Warehousing and Laminations, Inc. prior to his retirement.
He was an Army Veteran of WWII, serving in the Philippines. He was known to many as " uncle Mike", a man loved by his family, friends and neighbors. His love was doing kind deeds for those around him. His passing marks the end of an era of Rybniks which began on Water Ave. in lower South Side known as "The Flats", then migrating to First Street before moving to their home on South Irving Ave. in 1963. A humble, gentle, hardworking man who enjoyed his family, he will be remembered forever in the hearts of his caregivers Nick, Theresa, Cory, Janel and Kendra Nidoh, along with many other nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews. He was the last of his generation preceded in death by four brothers Joseph, John, Stanley and Chester as well as four sisters Helen Rybnik, Mary DeCresenza, Jean Nidoh and Eleanor "Babe" Ventura.

Catherine M. (Kitty) McCall
Catherine M. (Kitty) McCall, 87, a lifelong South Scranton resident, died Sunday, December 3, 2006, in Allied Skilled Nursing Facility. She was preceded in death by her husband James McCall.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph J. and Mary Bohn Snyder. She was a member of Sacred Hearts Church, South Scranton and was formerly employed as a seamstress by Gold Star Manufacturing.
She enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews. Surviving are nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a brother Frank Snyder and four sisters Marie Kurchinski, Ann Kornetka, Teresa Dowling and Rose Swingle. The funeral will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
Frank J. Tolerico
Frank J. Tolerico, formerly of Oakmont Gardens Apartments, died Thursday, November 23, 2006 at the Veterans Administration Nursing Home, Plains Twp. He was born January 27, 1916 in Carbondale, a son of the late Joseph and Lucille Boots Tolerico. He was the husband of the late Ann Remish who proceeded him in death on February 27,1995 and the couple was married for over 55 years.
Frank attended Carbondale Area schools. He was a WWII Navy Veteran and sustained a head injury and was medically discharged. After leaving the Navy, he worked for Roller Bearings in New Jersey. He returned to Pennsylvania and worked for the D & L Railroad for many years as a cook. Later on he was a member of the Local Teamsters Union #229 until his retirement. He became a volunteer at Allied Services for the Handicapped on the Morgan Highway. He was one of the original members of the Peer Stroke Program at the age of 81, after suffering two strokes himself, and continued to counsel other stroke patients until he went to live at the VA Nursing Home in May 2006 due to failing health. During his tenure with the Peer Stroke Program, he attended many lectures and seminars at Allied Services and he also attended classes at Marywood University to further his knowledge on the needs of the disabled. Frank was a devoted Catholic and was a member of Nativity Of Our Lord Church. He and his best friend Vince attended Mass at St. Peter's Cathedral on a daily basis. You could then see them, about town, visiting their friends at the Viewmont Mall, and then ending the day with a good meal at one of the area's restaurants. Frank was an avid Penn State and Notre Dame fan and his baseball team was the Boston Red Sox. Frank entered into eternal rest with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thanksgiving Day with his daughter Deb Ostrowski and husband Stan , Lewisburg, at his side.
Also surviving is a son Frank Tolerico Jr. and wife Ann, Redlands, Ca., a sister Helen Hiebert and husband Emory, Mission Hills, Ca., two granddaughters Carol Gillespie, Redlands, Ca., and Jill Petroff, Seal Beach, Ca. and one grandson Frank Tolerico lll, East Highland, Ca.. He is also survived by eight great grandchildren: Frank Tolerico lV, Nicholas and Michael Tolerico, Joshua and Brigdet Gillespie, and Luke, Taylor Marie, and Jake Petroff. He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Lucille and a brother, Frederick.

Josephine Minelli
Josephine Minelli, 94, a former South Scranton resident, died Thursday, November 16, 2006 in A. O. Fox Memorial Nursing Home, Oneonta, NY. She was the widow of Ralph Minelli who died July 26, 1950.
Born in Gubbio, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Cesare and Carmella Meletti Cardoni. She was a member of St. Francis Of Assisi Church and it's Altar and Rosary Society. Until her retirement she was employed locally in the garment industry. She enjoyed cooking and playing cards. She was a very loving mother and Nonni.
Surviving are two daughters Ada Rice and husband Daniel, Bainbridge, NY and Elaine Tamburelli and husband David, Clifton Park, NY, two sisters Ethel Carbone and Caroline Ranocchia, both of Scranton, a daughter-in-law Mary Minelli, Scranton, nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was also preceeded in death by a son Joseph, three sisters Emma Barbini, Anna Sellano,and Olga Bucari and two brothers Stanley Ceccarelli and Joseph Cardoni.

Dorothy M. Lettieri Pavlowski
Dorothy M. Lettieri Pavlowski, a South Scranton resident, died Saturday, November 11, 2006 in Community Medical Center. She was the widow of the late Joseph Pavlowski who died June 1, 1992.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late John M. and Mary Nasoni Lettieri. She was a member of St. Francis Of Assisi Church and was a devout attendee of St. Peter's Cathedral. Surviving is a daughter Renee Chim and husband, Ron, West Caldwell, NJ., a granddaughter Stephanie Milanes and husband Alex, West Caldwell, NJ., a brother John M. Lettieri and wife Anna, Moscow, a sister Norma Pascolini, Scranton and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Kevin Daniel Loftus
Kevin Daniel Loftus, 35, a resident of Old Forge, died Friday, November 10, 2006 in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, after an illness.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of Patricia Haen Ahern and stepson of Thomas Ahern, Scranton and son of Daniel P. Loftus and stepson of Barbara Samuel Loftus, Clarks Summit. Prior to his death he was a forklift operator at Panel Prints and a residential counselor with the Scranton Counseling Center. He was a graduate of North Pocono High School. He loved playing baseball as a youth and skiing as an adult where he was part of the ski instruction team at Montage Mountain. He also avidly followed his beloved New York Yankees, reveling in their victories and agonizing in their defeats.
Also surviving are his Fiancee, Susan Micka, Old Forge, a brother Dr. Brian Loftus and wife Alisa, Nazareth, half sister Caroline Loftus, Clarks Summit, Aunts Patricia Loftus Munley and husband Ed, Friendswood, TX., Donna Haen Stuchlack and husband Michael, Archbald, an uncle Thomas Haen and wife Donna, Binghamton, NY; a nephew Brandon Loftus, a niece Amelia Loftus, Nazareth and several cousins. He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Irvin and Anita Cotter Haen and paternal grandparents Joseph and Marie Byron Loftus.

Richard A. Townend
Richard A. Townend, 49, a resident of Taylor, died Friday, November 10, 2006 at home. He was the husband of the former Rose Spadoni and the couple would have celebrated their 22nd anniversary on January 7. Born in Scranton he was the son of William Townend, Jr, Gouldsboro, and the late Darlene Dittfield.
He was employed as a soil inspector for Pennsylvania Testing Laboratories for many years. He was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. While battling cancer for the last 13 years, he was a very loving husband, Father, Poppi, and brother. He was always there for his family and friends. His interests and hobbies were collecting different and unique items. He was very smart, talented, funny and loving. He loved to hunt, fish and fly kites with his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his wife, children, grandchildren. family, friends and all who knew him.
Also surviving are two daughters Christina M. Edwards, Scranton and Ann Marie Williams, Old Forge and a son Brian A. Edwards, Scranton. Also 5 grandchildren and four brothers William Townend III, Scranton, David Townend, Moosic, Frank Townend, Throop, George Townend, Scranton and a stepbrother James Bertig, Elmhurst. Also surviving are sisters Julie O'Donnell, Scranton and Judy Poncious, Phila., Amanda Townend, Elmhurst. Nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by two sisters Deborah Townend and Agnes Shay.

Marie J. Zeller
Marie J. Zeller, 84, a South Scranton resident, died Saturday Night in Mercy Hospital. She was the widow of Harry F. Zeller who died April 8, 1984. Born in Dunmore, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Flynn Russoniello.
She was a member of Nativity Of Our Lord Church. She was a retired employee of Scranton Lace Co. and after retirement she worked part time for Burger King. She was a member of the ILGW Union. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be missed by all who knew her. Surviving are two sons James, Peckville and Robert, Gainsville, Ga. and a daughter Jean Zeller, Parma Heights, IL.. Also surviving are three grandchildren Robert Zeller, Jr., Murrels Inlet, SC., Melissa Kiebort, Exton,Pa., and Noel Day, Stroudsburg. Also there are eight greatgrandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a brother Vincent Russoniello and a sister Evelyn Jones.
