Gary Anthony Caridad

Gary Anthony Caridad, The Hideout, Lake Ariel, died early Tuesday morning at home after an illness. His wife is the former Dorothy Reber.
Born in Brooklyn, New York son of Gary and Roseann Gazzillo Caridad of The Hidoeut. He was attended St. Thomas More/St. Mary’s parish and had been employed as a cable installer in Virginia. He was a member of the NRA and the Boy Scouts of America Order of the Arrow.
Surviving are a son Gary “Bud” of Lake Ariel; a daughter Roseann of Lake Ariel; a brother Stephen and his wife Dawn of Old Bridge, New Jersey; three grandchildren Darcie, Logann, and Anthony; a niece Sabrina; a nephew Philip.
The funeral will be Friday at 9am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:30am in St. Thomas More Church, corner of Tresslarville and Gravity Rds.
Friends may call Thursday from 5-8pm.
Interment, Lithuanian Independent Cemetery, West Wyoming.
Hazel M. Sherman

Hazel M. Sherman, 99, Cortez, died Friday in the Brighten at Julia Ribaudo Senior Care Center after an illness. Her husband Albert Sherman died in 1963.
Born March 17, 1907, in Scranton, daughter of the late William and Martha Stern Schultz. She was a member of the Cortez United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school in her younger years. She was a member of the Jefferson Senior Center. She graduated from the former Scranton Technical High School and the Powell School of Business. In her early years she had been employed by the Schultz brothers Department Store in the Petersburg
Section of Scranton as a bookkeeper.
She told beautiful stories of her childhood to her family and friends. She took great delight when she would play Old Maid with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She and her husband Al enjoyed their hobby of making home movie pictures of their neighbors and showing them at night in their yard under the stars, then moving indoors to the movie barn on Cortez road.
Her family has many happy and fond memories of a beautiful person. She will be remembered for her loving smile and her love for her family and especially her kittens. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff and friends at Brighten at Julia Ribaudo Senior Care Center and to the VNA Hospice for their compassion and care.
Surviving are a daughter Janice Chamberlain and her husband Dale of Lake Ariel; three grandchildren Lisa Chamberlain, Robin Mayeski, and Al Chamberlain and his wife Linda; seven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by a brother Ray Schultz; two sisters Alice Saar and Esther Stuckard.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 10am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with services by Rev. Art Yetter, pastor of the Cortez United Methodist Church.
Friends may call Tuesday morning from 9am until time of service.

June H. Strada of Lake Ariel died early Fridaymorning in VNA Hospice at Community Medical Center, Scranton. Her husband is Hugo Strada They would have celebrated their 64th wedding on January 29th.
She was born in Canada daughter of the late Clarence and Francis Bolt Bartelson. She was a member of the Sterling United Methodist Church. She loved to help her daughters Shirley and Joann run their businesses the former J&J Lounge and Joanne Stradas Beauty Shop. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren especially watching her son and grandsons at the car races. She also liked to square dance and to sew.
Also surviving daughters Shirley Chapman and husband Jim of Sterling, Joanne Bates and Husband Gary of Lake Ariel; brothers, Janse Bartleson of Panter, Pike County, William Bartleson of AZ, Keith Cron of WI; sisters Pearl Taninies of Ca, Doris Bartleson Burke of Bushkill Falls, Beatrice London of Bethany, Shirley Metchulat of Sterling; Grandchildren Edward Strada, Jr, Vicki Lamberton and Kevin Bates; great-grandchildren Emma Lamberton, Myranda
and Edward Strada.
Preceded in death by a son Edward E. Strada, Sr; brothers Jay Bartleson and Richard Cron

Arthur M. Slattery, the Hideout, Lake Ariel, died Sunday at home.
Born in Queens, New York son of Thomas and Rose Gridley Slattery of Lake Ariel. He was a graduate of the Floral Park Memorial High School in New York. He attended St. Thomas More/St. Mary’s Parish. He had been employed by the Hideout maintenance department.
Surviving are a son Michael and daughters Patty and Kelly all of Lake Ariel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 9:30am in St. Thomas More Church, corner of Gravity and Tresslarville Roads, Lake Ariel.

Bernice E. Gorton Kilcullen, 93, died Saturday in Ft. Myers, Florida
formerly of Elhurst and Scranton, Pa. and Waltham, Ma. She was the wife of the late Thomas P. Kilcullen.
Born in Elmhurst, daughter of the late Henry and Berthelda Grimes Gorton. She was active in Christian Evangilism with music ministry. She was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are daughters Kathleen Davis and her husband Charles of Norwood, Ma and Deborah Venuti and her husband Colin of Cape Coral, Fl; four grandchildren Christopher Davis and his wife Christine of Franklin, Ma., Brian Davis and his wife Tracy of Bellingham, Ma., Mark Donahue and his finacee Kelly Kamm of Framingham, Ma., and Keri Gustin and her husband Mark of Cape Coral, Fl; four great grandchildren Meaghan, Ireland, Hailey, and

Norma Jean Ferry

Norm Jean Ferry, 79, Ft. Myers, Florida, formerly of Lake Ariel, died
January 2 in Florida. Her husband was Edward C. Ferry who died in 1993.
Born in Jamaica, NY daughter of the late Walter and Ethel MacDonald. She was a member of the St. Columbkille Catholic Church. She was a volunteer who enjoyed golf and playing cards. She was a member of the Red Maple’s Women’s Golf League, the Dorflingler Glass Museum, and the St. Thomas More/St. Mary’s parish. Norma Jean loved her children and grandchildren.
Surviving are a son Michael P. of Emerald Island, NC; a daughter and son in law Barbara Ann Ferry and Richard Kamp of Sante Fe, NM; her grandchildren Lucia Kamp, Brian Christopher, and Kevin Ferry; niece Kathleen Bambrick and her husband Ken; nephew Richard MacKerer and his wife Lisa Walsh; great nephews Mark and Patrick Bambrick. Preceded in death by a sister and brother in law Rita and Walter MacKerer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10am in St. Thomas More Church by Rev. Phil Altavilla, pastor. Interment , St. Catherine’s Cemetery. Frederick J. Cordes
Lake Ariel. Pa. - Frederick J. Cordes, 73, of Greentown, formerly from The Hideout, Lake Ariel and Ridgefield, NJ, died Sunday, May 18, 2008, at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, the former Joan Haase.
Born September 20, 1934, in Jersey City, NJ, he was the son of the late Dietrich and Kathe (Sasse) Cordes. A Korean War Navy veteran, he was a retired realtor for Century 21 Select Group. In addition, he was a NJ State Police Lieutenant prior to his retirement in 1982. He loved to spend time with his granddaughters and was also an avid hunter.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Kathryn Cordes of Newfoundland; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Richard Jacques of Archbald; and three granddaughters, Janice Cordes, Kaelyn and Jordyn Jacques.
Private cremation was held at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel.

Raymond Henry Kamien
Tafton, PA - Raymond Henry Kamien, 80, of Rockville, MD, and former resident of Tanglwood Lakes, Greentown for 32 years, died on Saturday, June 21, 2008 after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol.
Born November 7, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Max and Madeline Kamien. Following high school graduation in January 1945, he joined the U.S. Merchant Marines and during the next three years made port of calls to 36 countries. He was also a decorated Korean War veteran who saw extensive combat as a Light Weapons Infantryman with the U.S Army's Second Infantry Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star with V device for Valor and the Purple Heart. After his time in the service, he took employment with the former New York Telephone Company, progressing from telephone installer to middle management, retiring in 1985. He went on to work the next 17 years as a Pike County Court Officer.
Surviving are his son Colonel Walt H. Kamien (USAF-Retired) and wife, Helen of Ashburn, VA; daughter, Linda Kriz and husband, Jarad of Rockville, MD; grandchildren, Mandy and Todd Kamien, Jarad, Jr. and Joshua Kriz; a sister-in-law, Claire Kamien; and nephews, Douglas, Kirk, Eric, Mark, and Scott Kamien.
He was also predeceased by a son, Brent; brothers, Herbert and Harold; and half brothers, Max and Walter.
Interment, Arlington National Cemetery with military honors.
Rose C. “Rosche” Mlynarski
Hawley, Pa. - Services will be held for Rose C. “Rosche” Mlynarski, 71, of Paupackan Lake Estates, Hawley, who died Monday, Nov. 24, 2008, at home following an illness. Born November 20, 1937, in Ardara, County Donegal, Ireland, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Margaret (Carr) McHugh. She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Frederick J. Mlynarski.
A retired insurance company secretary, she was a member of BVM Queen Of Peace Roman Catholic Church, Hawley. She formerly lived in Woodside, Queens, NY and Florida. Having had a vacation home in Paupack Lake Estates since 1976, she moved there full-time 10 years ago. She had been an elementary school teacher while in Florida.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law: Frank and Betty McHugh of Middletown, NY, and John and Philomena McHugh of Ireland; three sisters-in-law: Breda McHugh of London, Mary McHugh of Texas and Mary McHugh of Massachusetts; two brothers-in-law: Al DeLuca of Massapequa, NY, and Jackie O’Connell of County Cork, Ireland; her dear childhood friend: Sister Angela Brennan of Brooklyn; and many nieces, nephews and cousins .
She was preceded in death by three sisters: May Lynch, Patricia O’Connell and Ita DeLuca; and three brothers: Charlie “Chal” McHugh, Hugh McHugh and Myles McHugh.
Calling hours will be Friday, Nov. 28, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm at Teeters’ East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. The Funeral Mass will be Saturday, Nov. 29, at 12:30 pm at BVM Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 314 Chestnut Ave, Hawley. Burial will be in B.V.M. Queen Of Peace Cemetery, Hawley.

Joseph Frank Hessling II
Honesdale, Pa. - Private services will be held for Joseph Frank Hessling II, 69, of Honesdale, who died after a courageous fight with pancreatic cancer. He was entrusted with the Lord on Friday, November 21, 2008 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Cherryl L. (Compton) Hessling. The couple married Aug. 8, 1998.
Joe was born, raised and lived his life in Honesdale and was the son of the late Joseph B. Hessling who died Jan. 20, 1971 and the late Blanche T. Moken who died Jan. 18, 2008. He was an integral part of the community, having touched many lives. A graduate of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic High School “Ho Ca High,” Joe soon enlisted in the United States Air Force and served proudly from 1957 to 1961. While serving, he met his first wife of 32 years, Kathy Hessling.
He was employed with Katz Underwear Company for 30 years in various positions and responsibilities to include, head of design computer technology. In recent years, Joe was employed by the Wayne Independent as circulation director of five different papers. While there, he was able to indulge in one of his favorite pastimes, geneology, and co-published five pictorial history books of Wayne County and its residents. This was one of his proudest achievements. An avid train fan, Joe collected and chased trains since his childhood.
Joe was a life-time member of Texas #4 Fire Company and was a 3rd Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus.
To the loving husband, brother and Father to us all, we will love you for ever more. ......and that there.
He is survived by his sons Joe Jr., Fran and John Hessling; step-son Brandon; former daughter-in-law Michelle; brothers Gerald Hessling and wife Nancy, Thomas Hessling and wife Ann, Jon Hessling and wife Janet; sisters Karen DeTore and husband Chuck and Mary Jane Hessling Siepiela and husband Sam; nieces and nephews.
As per his request, cremation was at Maple Hill Crematory. Private Funeral Services will be at the family’s convenience with interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

William L. Hutchinson
Hawley, Pa. - Services will be held today, Wednesday for William L."Woody” Hutchinson, 61, of Hawley who died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008 at home. He is survived by his wife of 39 years: Dian Mary (Zito) Hutchinson.
Mr. Hutchinson was born January 6, 1947 in Honesdale and was the son of the late William and Madelyn (Sartori) Hutchinson.
He attended the University of Scranton prior to his tour of duty in Vietnam with the US Marine Corps. Upon being discharged he attended and graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a B.S. in mechanical engineering. He was a design engineer at Bethlehem Steel at the Homer research center, he was chief engineer and system designer for Innovare. He owned his own tech firm, Applitech which produced scheduling software for hospitals. He most recently worked at Ocean Renewable Power Corp.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by: one son, Peter Hutchinson of Newfoundland; two grandchildren, Victoria and Sydney Hutchinson; three sisters, Lindsay Hibbs of Hawley, Robin Hitchcock of Boyertown, Elizabeth Cohen of Allentown; one aunt, Ellen “Jimmy” McGinnis of Hawley; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, Dec. 30 from 5 to 8 pm at Teeters’ East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley. The funeral will be Wednesday, Dec. 31 at 11 am at Hawley United Methodist Church, 315 Church St., Hawley with Rev. Martin L. Cox, Jr., Pastor officiating.
Cremation will be at Lake Region Crematory in Lake Ariel.

Charles W. Crump
Lake Ariel, Pa. - Charles W. Crump, 93, of Brighten At Julia Ribaudo Nursing Home, Lake Ariel, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, the former Marion Whelan.
Mr. Crump was born December 31, 1914, in Madisonville, and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Crump.
He attended Hawley High School and was on the Senior Basketball Team. He served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II; he was stationed in Texas, England and the European mainland. He received a Bronze Star and was promoted to Master Sergeant before his honorable discharge from service at the end of the war.
He met and later married Marion Whelan in September of 1949.
His first job off the family farm was delivering bread, rolls and other baked goods from Stroudsburg to the Hawley area. For a time he operated the Roosevelt Mobil Service Station located at the intersection of Route 6 and 590, and after that he worked for the Hawley Oil Company. He often worked with his brother, John, at Crump's Texaco on Main St. in Hawley.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law: Judy Ann and Levi F. Travis II of Promised Land, Greentown; a son: C. Michael Crump of Hawley; a son and daughter-in-law: Stephen and Diane Crump of Matamoras, PA; five grandchildren: Justin Crump, Theresa Layton, Levi F. Travis, US Army Capt. Brian Travis, and Charles Travis; and a great grandson: Westley Layton.
He was preceded in death by a sister Kathryn and a brother John.
The funeral will be Saturday, Jan. 3, at 11 am at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley. Burial will be in B.V.M. Queen Of Peace Cemetery, Hawley.
