Pearl E. Letkiewicz Stadulis Schork
March 7, 2007

Pearl E. Letkiewicz Stadulis Schork, 91, formerly of Brooklyn, a resident of Lake Ariel since 1968, died Wednesday in the Wayne Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit after an illness. She was the widow of her first husband Lawrence Stadulis and her second husband Bernard Schork.

Born in Dickson City, daughter of the late Frankand Gertrude Zielezinski Letkiewicz. She was a member of the St. Thomas More/St. Mary's Church community where she was a member of the Alter and Rosary Society and also served as the former Director of Religious Education. She was active in the Religious Education program as a Catechist from 1971-1977 and the Parish Coordinator for St. Thomas More/St. Mary's from 1977-1989. She was also a member of the Orchard Lake Ladies Auxiliary, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lake Ariel Fire Company, and an honorary lifetime member of the Pennsylvania Congress of Parents and Teachers.

Surviving are a son Frank Stadulis of Boca Raton, Fl; a daughter Ruth Major of Waldwick, NJ; brothers Frank of Silver Spring, Md and Edward of Newport Richie, Fl; sisters Mary Fishbeck, Gertrude O'Brien, and Elizabeth Pawlick all of Lake Ariel; eight grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by a daughter Victoria Stadulis and a brother John Letkiewicz.

The funeral will be Monday at 9am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with Mass to be celebrated at 9:30am in St. Thomas More Church, Lake Ariel. Friends may call Sunday from 2-5pm. Interment , St. Mary's Cemetery, Ledgedale.

Richard Belles
March 5, 2007

Richard Belles, Lake Ariel, died Monday in the Wayne Memorial Hospital Hospice unit after an illness. His widow is the former Joan Ramble.

Born in Dunmore, Richard lived the past 70 years in Lake Ariel. He was the son of the late William and Freida Johnson Belles. Prior to retirement he had been employed as a carpenter. He was United States Marine Corp Veteran serving in the Pacific during World War II.

Surviving are  daughters Kathy Savitz of South Canaan, Kim Williams of Peeksville, NY, and Betsy Belles of Los Angeles, Ca.; a brother David Belles of Pittsford, NY; two grandchildren; one great grandchild; two nephews.

There will be no viewing. A memorial service will be held at a time to be announced. Cremation in the Lake Region Crematory. Arrangements by the James Wilson Funeral Home, Lake Ariel.

Laurence "Larry" Burnham
March 3, 2007

Laurence "Larry" Burnham, Gouldsboro, died Saturday night in the Mercy Hospital after an illness. His widow is the former Virginia Jewell Hannigan. The couple had been married on Thanksgiving Day 2002.

Born in Peterborough, New Hampshire, he was the son of the late Laurence R and Rosamond Stewart Burnham. He was of the Mormon faith. He had been employed as an over the road truck driver earning the distinction of driving for 40 years accident free. He was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

He will be sadly missed by all of his friends and family. The family is very grateful for all the tender loving care that Larry received.

Surviving are a stepson Dennis Hannigan and step grandson Patrick of Mashpee, Ma.;  daughters Melissa Harrington and her husband Perry and
their children and grandchildren in Statesville, NC, Michelle Lardou and her husband Ben and their two sons of Brooklyn, NY, and Carolyn Adcox of Palm Coast, Fl.; also his beloved dog Trooper and Peter "The Fat Cat" his kids.

Arrangements by the James Wilson Funeral Home, Lake Ariel.

Services private at the convenience of the family.

Cremation in the Lake Region Crematory.

Madelyn Francis Swales Ritter
March 2, 2007

Madelyn Francis Swales Ritter, a longtime resident of Mt. Cobb,
formerly of Winton, Pa., died Friday in the Brighten at Julia Ribaudo Senior Care Center after an illness. She was the widow of Elmer J. Ritter. Born in Winton, daughter of the late Thomas and Gertrude Swales Fletcher. Prior to retirement she had been employed as a waitress at the Erie
Hotel.

Surviving are sons Thomas of Mt. Cobb, Joseph of Lenox, and John of Archbald; a daughter Jaqueline Rohan of Olyphant; a sister Gertrude Walsh of Archbald; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by a sister Hannah Yanochick. Services and interment will be held private at the convenience of the family.

Leon C. Warren
February 28, 2007

Leon C. Warren, The Hideout, Lake Ariel, died Wednesday in the VNA Hospice Unit at the Community Medical Center after an illness. His wife was the former Jessie Mirol who died in 2004.

Born in Brooklyn, son of the late Paul and Matilda Yaegel Warren. He was of the Protestant faith. Prior to retirement he had been employed as an iron worker in New York City. He was a United States Marine Corp Veteran and he was the recipient of a Purple Heart.

Surviving are a son Wayne Warren of New Hyde Park, New York;  daughters Barbara Pace of Lake Ariel, Jessica Lee Lohsen of Long Beach, New York, and Tracy Warren of Amityville, New York; grandchildren Tara Lohsen, Katelyn and Matthew Warren, Shane Breslin, and Dakota Pace.

Preceded in death by brothers Paul and Robert Warren. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday at 1:30pm in St. John's Episcopal Church Route 191, Hamlin officiated by Fr. Edward Erb. Cremation took place in the Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Hospice of Lackawanna County 301 Delaware St. Olyphant, Pa. or to Alzheimer's Association Northeastern Pa Chapter Kirby Health Center Wilkes-Barre, Pa.

Charles J. McLellan, Jr.
February 15, 2007

Charles J. McLellan, Jr., Lake Ariel, died Thursday at home. His widow is Michele LoSasso McLellan. Born in Jersey City, NJ, son the late Charles J. and Dorothy Barth McLellan, prior to retirement he had been employed as a truck driver.

Surviving are sons Michael, Robert and his wife Lauren, Matthew, all of Jersey City, NJ, John, N. Bergen, NJ.; a sister Maureen Marino, Tobyhanna; grandchildren Jeffery, Brielle, Garrett, and his former wife Arlene McLellan, Jersey City, NJ.

Francis A. "Frank" Kromko
February 14, 2007

Francis A. "Frank" Kromko, Lake Ariel, died early Wednesday morning in the Brighten at Julia Ribaudo Senior Care Center after an illness.

Born in Throop, son of the late John and Mary Penska Kromko. He had been self employed as a dairy farmer. He was a member of the St. Thomas More/St. Mary's Church Community, Lake Ariel.

Surviving are sister Pauline Urash of Hazleton; nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by brothers Joe, Anthony, Steve, John and Edward; sisters Mary Pruss and Helen McTaggert.

Anyone attending the funeral is asked to go directly to the church Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday at 9:30 am to be celebrated in St. Thomas More Church, Lake Ariel. Interment , St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow.

Friends may call Friday from 5-8pm in the James Wilson Funeral Home Rt. 296 Gravity Rd, Lake Ariel.

Charles W. Moore

February 7, 2007

Charles W. Moore, 86, Lake Ariel, died Wednesday afternoon in the Brighten at Julia Ribaudo Senior Care Center after an illness. His wife is the former Bessie White. The couple had been married for 56 years.

Born January 29, 1921 in Lake Ariel, son of the late Morton H. and Gertrude V. Conklin Moore. He attended the Lake Consolidated School. Prior to retirement he had been employed by Penn DOT and also served 14 years as a Lake Township Supervisor. He also raised beef cattle. He also attended the Free Methodist Church of South Canaan.

Surviving are a brother Clifford Moore of Alabama; a sister Mary Gregory of Lake Ariel; nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by brothers Edward, John, Morton and Roger; sisters Pauline Bohl and Beverly Jones.

Funeral services will be held Saturday 11am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with services by Rev. William Rushik. Friends may call Friday from 4-7pm. Interment , Elmdale Cemetery, Mt. Cobb. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Elmdale Cemetery Association c/o Jim Kester 1567 Mt. Cobb Highway Lake Ariel, Pa. 18436 or to Radio Station WPEL PO Box 248 Montrose, Pa. 18801-0248.

Laura L. Chapman

February 2, 2007

Laura Chapman (nee Lawrence), 94, died of natural causes on February 2, 2007. A native of Hamlin, she had spent the last few years of her life as a resident of Brighton at Ribauda, Lake Ariel, PA. Laura was born on March 13, 1913, in Dunmore, PA, and lived in Connecticut, Maryland, Ohio, and Vermont with her birth family before returning to Wayne County.

Laura was a graduate of Philadelphia Business Institute. She moved from being Secretary to the Superintendent of Philadelphia State Hospital, Byberry, to the same position at Fairview State Hospital in Waymart, PA. She served as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1937. In August of 1944, she married Clifford Chapman (deceased) of Hamlin.

Laura was Secretary to the Official Board of Hamlin Centenary Methodist Church for more than 30 years, and also taught the adult Sunday School. She was widely known as the foremost local historian in the Southern Wayne County area, and wrote a historical play for the Church’s Bi-Centennial Celebration in 1955. For a few years Laura was school secretary for Hamlin Elementary School. Laura worked in several capacities for Northeast National Bank, Scranton (currently PNC Bank) for over 15 years. After retiring, she returned to work as a legal secretary and secretary for White Beauty View Resort.

She acted as Librarian for Salem Township Library. She was a weekly columnist for the Villager newspaper for 20 years. Laura was a lifelong member of the Scranton Chapter of the  daughters of the American Revolution. She was a conservationist and an active member of Lacawac Nature Sanctuary. Her original poetry was published in several venues including the Villager and the Grit newspapers.

Mrs. Chapman is survived by two  daughters, Alice Howells of Knoxville, PA and Lura C. Palmer of Wyomissing, PA, and one son, George L. of Baltimore, Md. A sister, Gertrude Reer lives in Kingston, NY, and a brother, William Lawrence of Florida, grandson, David Palmer of Chicago and two granddaughters, Sarah and Margaret Howells, both of Corning, NY.

A memorial service will be held at the James Wilson Funeral Home in Lake Ariel, PA, over Memorial Day. A notice will appear in this paper in early May.

William B. Eckert

January 17, 2007

William B. Eckert, Newfoundland, died January 17 at home. His wife was the former Ruth Ohagan who died in 1988.

Born in Bayonne, New Jersey son of the late William and Anna Bokros. He was a graduate Bayonne High School. He was of the Catholic faith. Prior to retirement he had been employed as a safety engineer for the Standard Oil Company and the Exxon Oil Company. He was a United States Army Veteran.

Surviving are sons Anthony of Fairfax, Ca. and Mark of Olympia, Wa; a daughter Allison Hennon of Cloverdale, Ca.; a sister Lucille Reisen of Dear Park, NY; six grandchildren; two great grandchild; one nephew; three nieces. Preceded in death by a son Jeffrey; a daughter Linda Brynildsen; a granddaughter Kathryn; a sister Ann.

A Blessing service will be held Saturday at 11am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel.

Friends may call Saturday from 10am until time of service at the funeral home. Interment , Catterson Cemetery.

Charles Galbraith

January 22, 2007

Charles Galbraith, a resident of the Devereux Pocono Center, Newfoundland, died Monday in the center after an illness.

Born March 22, 1920 in Franklin, Pa. son of the late Charles and Maura Splane Galbraith. He had worked in Plastics Manufacturing.

Interment will take place Friday in Franklin Cemetery, Venango County.

Frederick A. Filitor

January 24, 2007

Frederick A. Filitor, Lake Ariel, entered into eternal rest Wednesday morning at Wayne Memorial Hospital. His wife of 59 years is Veronica Lapetina Filitor.

Born in Manhattan, NY, on July 18, 1921, son of the late Sophie Wolski and Justin Filitor, he was a graduate of Haarin High School, prior to retirement he was employed as a supervisor in pension/trust department for Chase Manhattan Bank. He was a member of St. Thomas More/St. Mary’s Parish,, a member of VFW Post #5360 in Newton, N.J. and served in the Army Air Force during WWII in Okinawa where he was a front line Medic.

He loved his family dearly and took great pride in his 5  daughters and grandchildren.

Also surviving are  daughters Rita Jean Yackanich and her husband Dimetrius, Staten Island, NY, Jane Hanley, Lake Ariel, Magee Murray and her husband Frank, Medway, Ma, Mary Joan Ullmann and her husband Kurt, Andover, NJ., Joann Grady and her husband Michael, Landing, NJ; Grandchildren Elise, Lauren, Brigette, Amy, Christine, James, Jill, Mary Veronica; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother Richard.

The Funeral will be Monday at 10:00am in the James Wilson Funeral Home, Rt. 296 Lake Ariel with Mass to be celebrated at 10:30am in the St. Thomas More Church corner of Gravity and Tresslarville Roads, Lake Ariel.

Friends may call Sunday 2:00-5:00pm.

Interment, St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas More/St. Mary’s Parish P.O. Box # 188 Lake Ariel, Pa. 18436.
