Arthur D. Botjer, Sterling Township, died Saturday night at home. His widow is the former Bernice Klepadlo.
Born in Greentown, son of the late Henry and Isabelle Reichel Botjer. He was a graduate of the Greene Dreher High School. Prior to retirement he had been employed as a carpenter. He was a United Sates Army veteran serving in World War II.
Surviving are sons David of Maplewood and Arthur of Lake Ariel; grandchildren Michael, Kevin, and Megan; great granddaughter Trinity; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services and interment will be at a time to be announced in Fairview Memorial Park.
Phyllis I. Lown

Phyllis I. Lown, a resident of Cortez, died Wednesday at home after an illness. Her husband is Loren "Skip" Lown.
Born in Damascus, daughter of Margaret Daniels Shaffer of Lake Ariel and the late Lester Walker. She was a graduate of the Jefferson Township High School and was a member of the Cortez United Methodist Church. Prior to retirement she had been employed Gertrude Hawk Chocolates and several clothing manufacturing company's throughout the area.
She was gifted with many talents and wasn't afraid to share these gifts with others. Whether it be her abilities with baking, gardening (she had a phenomenal green thumb) or sewing and crocheting her caring nature would always show through. Her nurturing also benefitted her mother, children, grandchildren, or anyone looking for a sweet treat, smile, shelter or words of encouragement. She was also very involved with family Genealogy.
Surviving are sons Loren and his wife Mary Lynne of Cortez, Ron and his wife Mary Ann of Shavertown, and Roger and his wife Lauren of Philadelphia; sisters Shirley Tuttle of Waymart, Evelyn Higginbothim of Sun City, AZ, Mary Ellen Britton of Hazelton, Suzanne Ciscoe of Madison Twp, Sonya Osborne of Annapolis, Md, and Betty Rosengrant of Lake Ariel; brothers Herbert of Millerton, Lester of Montecano, WA, Ted of Lake Ariel, Bill of Northampton, and Friend of Alexandria, VA; grandchildren Megan Arvonio, Jillian, Jessica, and Kelly Lown; several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by a brother Johnny and a sister Patricia Mcumber.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with services by Rev. Ron Onder.
Friends may call Friday from 5-8pm.
Interment, Fairview Memorial Park.

Sophie Grella

Sophie Grella, a resident of the Ellen Memorial Nursing Home, Honesdale, formerly of the Hideout, died late Monday night. She was the widow of Thomas A. Grella.
Born in Brooklyn, daughter of the late John and Frances Harasumchuk Kret and was a graduate of the Girls High School in Brooklyn. She attended St. Thomas More Church. Prior to retirement she had been employed as an Engineering Assistant for AT&T.
Surviving are a son Thomas and his wife Carmen; a daughter Janet Verni and her husband Vito all of Lake Ariel; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by a twin sister Jennie; brothers Jack and John.
Anyone attending the Mass is asked to go directly to the church on Thursday.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Thursday at 9:30am in St. Thomas More Church, corner of Route 296 and Tresslarville Rd., Lake Ariel.

Charles H. Peet

Charles H. Peet, Bidwell Hill, died Thursday morning at home after an illness. His widow is the former Evelyn Conklin. The couple celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in September.
Born in Lake Ariel, son of the late Edward and Mary "Mame" Bidwell Peet he was a member of the Wimmers Bible Fellowship Church. Prior to retirement he had been employed by Bailey’s Manufacturing in Honesdale for 32 years.
Surviving are sons Noel Peet of Hop Bottom and Rev. Gerald Peet of Trout Run; a daughter Ann Price of Lake Ariel; seven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by a daughter Glenda Henwood; a granddaughter Sonya Joy Henwood.
Services will be held Saturday at 2pm in the Wimmers Bible Fellowship Church, 200 Wimmers Rd. Mt. Cobb officiated by Charles’ son Rev. Gerald Peet, his grandson Rev. Daniel Henwood, and pastor Wayne Jackson of the Wimmers Bible Fellowship Church.
Spring interment, Hamlin Cemetery.

Paul A. Southard, The Hideout, Lake Ariel, died Thursday at home. His wife was the former Evelyn F. Shapuis who died in 2005.
Born in Freeport, NY son of the late Charles W. and Eva M. Slauttery Southard. Prior to retirement he had been employed as a machinist with the Johnson and Hoffman Company. He was a United States Army Veteran.
Surviving is a son Paul W. Southard of Fond du lac, WI; two sisters Audrey Combs and Eva Tanner both on New York.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Jeffrey Lyn Thomas, Sterling, died Saturday in the Moses Taylor Hospital after an illness.
Born in Kenosha, WI., son of Patricia E. Crum Thomas, Sterling and the late Richard F. Thomas, Sr. he attended the JJ Kohler School and the NIEU in Scranton. He attended the Hollisterville United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a brother and Allen R. Thomas, Sr. of Michigan; sisters Leigh A. Merring of Lake Ariel and Laurie A. Scutt of Arkansas; step brothers Richard F. Thomas, Jr. of Sterling, Donald Thomas of Pittston,; several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by a brother Scott.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 3pm in the Hollisterville United Methodist Church with Rev. Pat Lee officiating.

Alfred S. Koerner, Mt. Cobb, died Sunday in the VNA Hospice Unit at the Moses Taylor Hospital after an illness. His wife of 51 years is the former Anna Case.
Born in Scranton son of the late Alfred S. and Edna Kubler Koerner he was a member of the Pentecostal Assembly of God Church, Hamlin. Prior to retirement he had been employed by the Scranton Tobacco Company in the Receiving Department. He was a United States Army Veteran.
Surviving are sons Keith of Hamlin and Alan of Mt. Cobb; a daughter Robin Marhevka of Mt. Cobb; sisters Alberta Evans of Olyphant and Madeline Peteritis of Nicholson; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by a daughter Linda Koerner Gordon; a grandson Craig Marhevka.
The funeral will be Monday at 11am in the Hamlin Assembly of God Church Route 191 Hamlin.
Friends may call Sunday from 6-9pm in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel and Monday morning at the church from 10am until time of service.

John J. Timlin
January 2, 2006
John J. Timlin, The Hideout, Lake Ariel, died Monday morning in the VNA Hospice Unit at the Moses Taylor Hospital after an illness. His wife is the former Mary Ann Reilly. The couple celebrated 59 years of marriage in June 2005.
Born June 15, 1924 in the Bronx, NY son of the late Patrick and Delia Mellet Timlin. Prior to retirement he was served as a Sergeant in the New York City Police Department. He also served in the United States Army during WWII in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters.
Surviving are four daughters Patricia Van Roten of Stamford, Ct., Julie and her husband Ray Soffientini of Franklin Square, NY, Mary and her husband Fred Federico of Lake Ariel, Jean and her husband Wes Schelling of Franklin Square, NY; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a nephew; two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his brother William "Bill" Timlin.
The funeral will be Friday at 9am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with Mass to be celebrated at 9:30am in St. Thomas More Church.
Interment, St. Raymond’s Cemetery, Westchester, NY.

Jean C. Turner

Jean C. Turner of Lake Ariel died Saturday evening in the Brighten at Julia Ribaudo Senior Care Center, Lake Ariel. Her Husband is John Turner.
Jean was born in Lake Ariel, daughter of the late Amzi B. and Agnes Schneider Cook the former owners of the Cook Funeral Home in Lake Ariel. She was a graduate of the Lake Consolidated School and the Empire Beauty School. She was the owner of Jeans Beauty Shoppe, Lake Ariel. Jean was also a member of Lake Ariel United Methodist Church and its Choir. She was also a member of the Harriet Greene Order Eastern Star. She had also been associated with James Wilson Funeral Home as a hairdresser.
Also surviving are a daughter Mary Krisovitch and her husband Joseph of Lake Ariel and son James Romanowski and his wife Susan of Lake Ariel; brothers Harold and Alfred Cook of Lake Ariel, and Ernest "Duff" Cook of Honesdale; a sister Ethel Rose of Cherry Ridge Twp.; 3 granddaughters Jennifer, Heather and Patricia.; a great grandson John. Several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death brothers William and Arthur Cook and a sister Elizabeth Gorton.
Memorial Services will be held Thursday at 11am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Gravity Rd ,Route 296 Lake Ariel.

Cremation took place at the Lake Region Crematory at the James Wilson Funeral Home, Lake Ariel.

Ann Marie Shenko - MayAnn Marie Shenko-May, Sterling, Pa. and Sarasota, Fl., died Monday evening at the Mercy Hospital Hospice Unit after an illness. Her husband of 11 years is George W. May.
Born in Scranton, daughter of Helen Blasko Shenko, Sterling, Pa. and the late Joseph J. Shenko, she was a graduate of Lake Ariel High School. She was a Real Estate Broker at the Sarasota Sand Resort, Fl. She attended St. Catherine of Siena Church, Moscow.
Also surviving are step-sons George and his wife Stacy, Michael and his wife Lori, Patrick and his companion Jamie Lukeski, Kevin and his wife Sarah, all of Madison Twp.; sisters Judy VanGaasbeck and her husband Donald, Sterling and Lyn Madison and her husband Phil, Elmhurst; 3 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and nephews.
