James J. Neville

James J. Neville, Hollisterville, died Friday after a hard fought battle with cancer. He would have been 49 years old in August. He is survived by his wife the former Ellen Pawluck with whom he would have celebrated 25 years of marriage in October.
Jim was employed at Wallenpaupack Lake Estates for 26 years. He served as Chairman of the Salem Township Planning Commission, a member of the Moscow Sportsman’s Club, St. Thomas More Church and a member of the Salem Lodge Free and Accepted Masons #330, Hamlin. He was a graduate of Western Wayne High School.
Jim was an avid outdoorsman and had a particular love of fly-fishing. He also enjoyed collecting and restoring antiques in his spare time. Above all, Jim was a devoted husband and Father. He will be deeply missed.
Surviving are sons Cory and Jared, of Hollisterville; a brother Thomas; several cousins; nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his mother Louise.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 9am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:30am in St. Thomas More Church, Lake Ariel
Friends may call Monday from 5-8 pm with a Masonic service at 8pm.
Internment, St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow.

John C. Barnett

John C. Barnett, Hamlin, died Friday morning at home. His widow is the former Wanda Owsianiecka.
Born in Maspeth, NY son of the former William and Caroline Schley Barnett.
Surviving are a daughter, Maia, N. Salem, NY; brothers, William, Queens NY, Michael and his wife Joan, Scranton; close friend Nancy Laroza, Scranton.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday morning at 10:45 in St. Mary’s Church, Woodside, NY. Interment Lutheran Cemetery, Middle Village, NY.

Anthony David Skelton, infant son of David Skelton and Toni Ann Sheehan, died Tuesday at the Wayne Memorial Hospital at birth.
Surviving are a sister Gabriella Sheehan, Elmhurst; maternal grandparents Thomas and Amelia Sheehan, Elmhurst; paternal grandparents David Skelton, Moscow and Debbie Skelton, Lake Ariel; paternal great-grandparents Mary Lou Jones, Lake Ariel and Ed Jones, Moscow.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10:30am in St. Thomas More Church, Lake Ariel.

Mabel Curtis Richie Lasserre

Mabel Curtis Richie Lasserre, 93, of Gravity, passed quietly into the waiting arms of Jesus, Thursday in the Community Medical Center Hospice Unit following a brief illness. She was the widow of Ferdinand Richie and Roger M. Lasserre.
Born in Gravity, daughter of the late Rachel Shaffer Curtis and Herbert Curtis, she was preceded in death by a brother Robert Curtis and sister, the late Inez Curtis Matthews. She is survived by a nephew Richard E. Matthews of Carbondale, and nieces Christine Schwartz of Scranton, and Kathy Wright of Idaho.
She was a graduate of Lake Ariel High School. She was last employed at the Myrna Owens Children’s Home in South Canaan. She was a faithful member of the Canaan Bible Chapel, Varden. She was also a long time member of the Gravity Grange and loving friend to many in the Gravity, Varden and South Canaan areas. She was an artist with embroidery and crocheting, and her doilies and quilts adorn homes in several states.
Surviving are Rev. and Mrs Daniel and Nancy Baker of Port Crane; nieces and nephews.
To pastor Baker’s children and grandchildren she was lovingly known as "aunt Mabel."
Many thanks go to the residents and staff at The Manor at Waymart, which has been her home for the past five years, and to the caring staff at the VNA Hospice unit.
The Funeral will be Saturday at 2 PM in the James Wilson Funeral Home, Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel, with services by Rev. Matthew Wolfe and Rev. Daniel C. Baker.
Friends may call Friday from 5-8pm and Saturday morning from 1pm until time of service.
Interment, East Canaan Cemetery.
Charlotte Bertha Schaff

Beloved mother and grandmother Charlotte Bertha Schaff passed away Thursday, July 6th, 2006 in Anacortes, Washington following a long illness.
She was born September 9th, 1911 in Woodhaven, Long Island, New York, the daughter of Peter J. and Bertha Emily Druet DeLorey. Most of her formative years were spent in Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania. She was a graduate of Lake Ariel High School and Wyoming Seminary College of Business in Kingston, Pennsylvania.
She served as minister’s wife in Wyoming Conference and Southern New Jersey Conference. She is the widow of Rev. Clyde A. Schaff, United Methodist Clergyman who died in 1982.
Later, she also lived in Westmont, Cherry Hill, Avon-by-the-Sea, and Malaga NJ. She served as Youth Advisor in camps and conferences and was a Girl Scout leader.
She was a member of Haddonfield United Methodist Church and a 60-year member of Harriet Green Chapter #198 Order of Eastern Star (Past Matron).
Survived by her son Clyde Pierre Schaff, Oak Harbor, Washington, 3 grandchildren: Karl S. Schaff, Karin L. Schaff, and David L. Schaff of Anchorage Alaska, great-grandchildren Darby Schaff and Jordan Schaff and two great-great grandchildren, three sisters, Lillian Cramer and Louise Grippi of Moscow, and Natalie Moore of Lake Ariel.
Preceded in death by daughter Verlynne Needham in 1960 and son Ross Schaff in 1995.
Services will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Elmhurst on Saturday July 15, 2006 at 10:30am.

Albert V. Pirozzi

Albert V. Pirozzi, The Hideout, Lake Ariel, died Thursday in the Mercy Hospital Hospice Unit after an illness. His widow is the former Maria J. Jacaruso.
Born in the Bronx, New York son of the late James and Lucille Valli Pirozzi he was a graduate of the Theodore Roosevelt High School and Fordham University. Prior to retirement he had been employed as the Senior Director of Finance for the Western union Telegraph Company. He was a United States Navy Veteran.
He was a passionate tennis fan.
Surviving are sons Chris of Orlando, Fl and Glenn of Staten Island; grandchildren Christine, Brian, Glenn, Anna, and Christina Pirozzi.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday at 11am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel officiated by Rev. Ron Onder.

Richard P. Schwarz, The Hideout, Lake Ariel, died Friday morning at home. His widow is the former Linda Croney.
Born in Teaneck, New Jersey, son of Eleanor Smith Schwarz of Dumont, New Jersey and the late Edward Schwarz. He was of the Protestant faith. He had been employed by the Grand Union Grocery Store Company.
Surviving are two sisters Shirley Sanders and Sandra Schwarz both of New Jersey; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 2pm in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel.
Friends may call Wednesday from 1pm until time of service.

Buddy E. Rollison

Buddy E. Rollison, Lake Ariel, died Saturday night at home after an illness. His widow is the former Verna Johnson.
Born in Waymart, son of the late Raymond and Alice Jennings Rollison. Prior to retirement he was employed as a plumbing and heating contractor in Lackawanna and Wayne Counties.
Surviving are sons Clyde and Kevin both of Lake Ariel; a daughter Cindy Pacini of Archbald; a brother Keith of Lake Ariel; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by sons Brian, Randy and Ricky; a daughter Glenda Walsh; brothers Clyde and Robert; sisters Doris O’Brien and Mildred Cosgrove.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family with interment in Canaan Corners Cemetery.

Lawrence C. "Mac" McCloskey

Lawrence C. "Mac" McCloskey, Lake Ariel, died Wednesday morning at the Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale following a short illness. His wife of nearly 50 years is the former Helen Zvikas.
Born January 11, 1929 in Lake Ariel, he was the son of the late Lawrence E and Doris Chapman McCloskey. He was a 1946 graduate of the Lake Consolidated High school and a 1950 graduate of the US Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, New York. He spent most of his career as a tugboat engineer for McAllister Towing, New York City, for whom he worked 30 years before retiring. Prior to his retirement, he traveled to many parts of the world while serving as an engineer aboard several steamships, including the famed S.S. United States.
Surviving are sons Lawrence, Jr and his wife Teri of Manheim and Robert and his wife Ruth of Peckville; grandsons Robert, Nicholas, and Matthew; several cousins, nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be private at the convenience of the family.

Bernice Kellogg, a resident of the Lackawanna County Health Care Center died Monday morning in the Center. She was the widow of Albert R. Kellogg.
Born in Scranton daughter of the late Bernard Bardell and Lena Getz and step-daughter of Harold Hartranft and she was of the Methodist faith. Prior to retirement she had been employed as a waitress at Twin Rocks Restaurant. She was active with the Jefferson Township Senior Citizens Group.
She loved bird watching and bingo.
Surviving are a son Robert Hoover of Lake Ariel; daughters Donna Shepard and her husband James of Hollisterville and Brenda Porreca and her husband Walter, Jr. of Honesdale; a brother Earl Hartranft of Haines City, Fl; grandchildren Shanon and Joshua Shepard and Frank Porreca.
Preceded in death by a sister Audrey Dougherty; a brother Donald Hartranft; a granddaughter Tara Shepard.
