Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

William P. Shutkufski

April 22, 2005

William P. Shutkufski, Ledgedale, died Friday at home after an illness.

Born in Scranton son of the late Anthony J. and Anna Fletcher Shutkufski. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Ledgedale. Prior to retirement he had been self employed in the well drilling industry. He was a member of the American Legion. He was a United States Army veteran who served during the Korean Conflict.

Surviving are a son Greg of Texas; a daughter Janet Smith of Lake Ariel; a brother Edward Shutkufski of Lakeville; a sister Eleanor MacDonald of Bushkill; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by a daughter Pamelia Botcher; a sister Anna Mae Andracki.

Anyone attending the funeral is asked to go directly St. Mary’s Church.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10am in St. Mary’s Church, St. Mary’s Rd. Ledgedale.

Friends may call Wednesday from 5-8pm in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel.

Interment, St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Jeffrey "Ira" Goldberg

April 22, 2005

Jeffrey "Ira" Goldberg, the Hideout, Lake Ariel, died Friday at home.

Born in Valley Stream, NY he was the son of Burton B. and Judith Arlow Goldberg of Delray Beach, Fl. He was of the Jewish Faith. He was a former partner in the North Central Security Company.

Jeffrey is gone but not forgotten by his family and many friends.

Surviving are a brother Paul Goldberg of Vernon, NJ; three nephews; a niece.

Preceded in death by a brother Mark.

Interment and services will be held private at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements by the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel.

Susan Luke

Dec. 29, 2006

Susan Luke, Newfoundland, died Thursday at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Her widow is Robert Luke.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Rudolph W. Burger and Lorraine DeGrass Burger.

Surviving are sons Ryan J. and James M. at home; a daughter Danielle Vincent,
Newfoundland; a brother Kenneth Burger, Lake Ariel; sisters Laura Ann Cassamassion, New
Jersey and Diane Reilly, Hamlin.

A Blessing Service will be held Wednesday at 12:00pm in the James Wilson Funeral Home
Rt. 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with services by Fr. Phillip Altavilla, pastor St. Thomas
More and St. Mary's Churches.

Friends may call Wednesday morning from 10:30am until time of service at the funeral home.

James J. McCarthy

Dec. 28, 2006

James J. McCarthy 76, of Lake Ariel died Wednesday evening at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale. His wife of 50 years is Nancy Callan McCarthy.

Born June 25, 1930 in the Bronx NY son of the late John and Agnes Kane McCarthy. He was a graduate of Villanova University and served in with the 35th infantry regiment of the 25th infantry division on Korea and Hawaii. He was a retired Nassau County Police Department Lieutenant serving 28 years with the force. He was also a member of PBA and the SOA. He was a member of St Thomas More/St Mary’s parish’s where he served as an usher and was also a
member of the Knights of Columbus Council #7403, Lake Ariel.
He was a loving and faithful husband,  Father, grandfather, brother and uncle who was very protective and devoted to his family. He will also be remembered for his marvelous Irish wit and will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered in our hearts forever. Glory be to God and praise forever.

Surviving are a son Nicholas J. of Lake Ariel;  daughters Mariellen Hagy and husband Keith of Warrenton, Va, Kerry McCarthy, of Port Jefferson NY, Maureen Marold and husband Joseph of Jermyn, and Eileen Gorton and husband David of Nicholson; a sister Mary Jane and husband Ret. Colonel Albert Litschgi, Fairfax, Va; Grandchildren Nicholas, Rebecca, Emily Jessica, James, Marissa, Brittany, Nicole, Kyle and Jacob; nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by a sister Kathleen Brown and a grand nephew Ryan Patrick Brown.
Anyone attending the funeral is asked to go directly to the church Saturday morning.

Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 9:30am in St. Thomas More Church corner of Tresslarville and Gravity Rds. Lake Ariel.
Friends may call Friday from 2-4 and 7-9pm in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel. Cremation to follow in the Lake Region Crematory with interment to follow in St. Catherine’s Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ryan Patrick Brown Memorial Fund c/0 Michael Brown 14 Marwood Dr. Hawpauge, NY 11788.

Nona Bauer

December 15, 2006

Nona Bauer, Lake Ariel, died Friday in the Wayne Memorial Hospital after an illness. She was the widow of Carl Bauer who died in 1999.
Born May 15, 1923 daughter of the late Harry and Anna Heyder Armstrong she was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving are sons Kevin of Lakeville and Mark of S. Lake Tahoe, Ca.; a daughter Susan Bauer of Pompton Plains, NJ; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2pm in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with  Father Edward R. Erb officiating.

Friends may call Tuesday from 1pm until time of service.
Interment, Curlew Hills Mausoleum, Palm Harbour, Florida.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

William H.Cook

Dec 15, 2006

William H. Cook, Lake Ariel, died Friday at home with his family by his side. His wife of 56 years was the former Evelyn A. Smith Cook who died Nov 6, 2005.

Born in Lake Ariel, son of the late Amzi and Agnes Schneider Cook. He was a life long resident of Lake Ariel. He and his brother, Alfred, started their own business called the GLF in Lake Ariel which later became known as Cook’s Agway. He served in the Army as a Master Sergeant during WWII in the Philippines. He was a member of Salem Lodge #330 F&AM serving as Worshipful Master in 1951. He was awarded his 50 year membership pin in 1997. He also belonged to the Keystone Consistory and various Scottish Rite Bodies in the
Valley of Scranton. He also was a member of the SSG. Paul A. Sweeney American Legion Post #807 and the Lake Ariel United Methodist Church.

Surviving are  daughters Linda Justice R.N., Nancy Pennell and Julie Wartella all of Lake Ariel; sons William A. Cook of Lake Ariel and Jeffrey A. Cook of Rochester, NH; sisters Ethel Rose of Honesdale and Jean Turner of Lake Ariel; brothers Alfred and Harold Cook both of Lake Ariel and Ernest of Honesdale; 8 Grandchildren; 2 Great grandchildren. Preceded in death by a brother Arthur and a sister Elizabeth Gorton. The funeral will be held Tuesday morning at 11am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Rt 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with services by the Rev Robert Horn.

Interment will be in Hamlin Cemetery. Friends may call Monday evening from 5-8pm. Masonic services will be held Monday evening at 7:45 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Lake Ariel United Methodist Church 110 Maple Ave, Lake Ariel, Pa. 18436

John Kuchmanich

December 13, 2006

John Kuchmanich, Clinton Twp., died Wednesday morning in the Marian Community Hospital after an illness. His wife is the former Helen Naholnick. Born in Jessup, son of the late Harry and Anna Sedlak Kuchmanich. He was a member of St. Tikhon’s Church, South Canaan. Prior to retirement he had been employed as a toolmaker for the Illinois Tool Company in Michigan.

Surviving are a son John Kuchmanich and his wife Pamela Sue of Clinton Twp.; a daughter Elaine Pendrick and her husband Richard of Greenville, Michigan; a brother Peter Kuchmanich of Jessup; six grandchildren; several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by a son Gregory Kuchmanich; brothers Harry Kuchmanich; a sister Anna Simon.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10am in St. Tikhon’s Church, St. Tikhon’s Rd., South Canaan.
Friends may call Friday from 4-7pm in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel and Saturday morning from 9:30am until time of service at the church. Parastasis will be held Friday at 6:30pm. Interment , St. Tikhon’s Cemetery.

Adrian Van Sickle

December 6, 2006

Adrian Van Sickle, S. Canaan, died Wednesday at Marian Community Hospital after an illness. His wife was the late Ellen Lamberton Van Sickle.

Born in S. Canaan he was the son of the late Alton and Bessie Black Van Sickle. Prior to retirement he was a self-employed carpenter.

Surviving are a son William and his wife Cathy Van Sickle, S. Canaan; a daughter Jean and her husband Joseph Cicco, Waymart, Sharon Smith, Honesdale; 9 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter Betty Tyler; brothers Clifford and Avory; a sister Leah; and a grandson Bradley.

A Funeral Service was held Saturday at James Wilson Funeral Home Rt. 296 Lake Ariel with services by Rev. William Rushik. Interment was in East Canaan Cemetery, S. Canaan Cemetery.

Deirdre D. Bott

December 7, 2006

Deirdre D. Bott, Lake Ariel, died Thursday night in the Mercy Hospital after an illness.

Born in Teaneck, New Jersey, daughter of Janis Sullivan Nasser and her husband Joseph and the late Roger Bott. She was a graduate of North Pocono High School. She was of the Catholic faith.
Surviving are a brother Roger Bott and his wife Kimberly; a nephew
Christopher all of Federalsburg, Md.

Friends may call Tuesday afternoon from 2-4pm in the Vanston and James Funeral Home 142 S. Main Ave. Scranton.
Interment, private at the convenience of the family in George Washington Memorial Park.

Robert Van Leuven

December 8, 2006

Robert C. Van Leuven, Lake Ariel, died Friday morning in the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital after an illness. His wife is the former Ruth Betty Lisko, the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Sept 29th of this year.

Born in Lake Ariel son of the late Andrew and Bethel Pennell Van Leuven. He had been educated in the Lake Ariel School System. He was member and Past Master of Salem Lodge #330 F&AM, Hamlin. He was self employed as a independent mail carrier contractor.

Surviving are a son Robert and his wife Susan of Westminster, Colorado;  daughters Missy Krowiak and Marcy Swingle and her husband Duane all of Lake Ariel; a sister Margaret Vaverchac of Lake Ariel; grandchildren Nicholas Krowiak, Morning Star Van Leuven, Moon Shadow Van Leuven, Mariah Van Leuven,
Jillian Swingle, Stephanie Van Leuven, and Alyssa Krowiak; one great granddaughter Kadence Miller. Preceded in death by a daughter Debra Van Leuven; two brothers James and Lewis; a sister Irene Waibel.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with services by Rev. Donald Vanderhoof. Friends may call Monday from 5-8pm.

Masonic Services will be held Monday evening at 7:30pm.

Interment, St. Catherine’s Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association 71 N. Franklin St. Wilkes-Barre, Pa.

Glenn A. Skelton

December 1, 2006

Glenn A. Skelton, Sterling, died Friday night at home after an illness. His wife is the former Rosine Melosh.

Born in Sterling, son of the late Eber W. And Bessie Gromlich Skelton he was a member of the Ocala Springs Baptist Church, Florida. Prior to retirement he had been employed as a driver for the William Rosenstein and sons Produce Company, Scranton.

Surviving are sons William and his wife Theresa of Sterling and Glenn, Jr. and his wife Tracey of Lake Ariel;  daughters Kathleen Schaffer and her husband Chris of Sterling, Patricia Adams and her husband Lonnie of Lawton, Ok., and Sandra Wolfley and her husband Harry of McClure, Pa.; a brother Gerald of Springville, Pa.; nineteen grandchildren; twenty two great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by a great granddaughter Gabrielle Wolfley; brothers Ralph and Wayne.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 11am in the Jericho Independent Church Route 196 Sterling with services by Rev. Gary Gilpin.

Friends may call Tuesday morning from 10am until time of service at the church. Interment , Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
