Paul J. Scholze, 86, of Shoreline, Wash., died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, in Seattle, Wash. Born Jan. 12, 1914, in Brookline, Pa., he lived in the Pittsburgh area for 58 years. He was a veteran of World War II at Guadalcanal, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Paul is survived by his wife, Dorothy; children, Stephen, Phillip, Florence and David Scholze; 10 grandchildren; three brothers , Bob, Mac and Jim Scholze; and his sister, Ellen Scholze. GLENN A. SMITH
Glenn A. Smith, 79, of Youngwood, died Friday, June 2, 2000, at home. He was born June 30, 1920, in Youngwood, a son of the late Norman L. and Bertha Margaret Himmelwright Smith. He was retired from Robertshaw Controls, New Stanton, after 45 years of service, and was also a retired carpenter. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Youngwood, a life member of the Youngwood Volunteer Hose Co. 1, a member of Lodge #518 F&AM, Greensburg, the Syria Shrine, Pittsburgh, the Scottish Rite Valley of Pittsburgh, and a former member of the Advising Council of the Order of DeMolay. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane R. Smith; and two sisters , Alberta White head and Doretta Neal. Surviving are his wife, Jean Moore Prinkey Smith; a daughter, Donna Zaffy of Pittsburgh; a brother, William E. Smith of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; numerous cousins; and three stepgrandchildren. Friends will be received at the C. RICHARD McCAULEY FUNERAL HOME INC., Youngwood, from 12 to 2 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. CHRISTINE A. SKOLODA
Christine A. Skoloda, 88, of Latrobe, died Friday, June 2, 2000, in the Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born Jan. 20, 1912, in Hazleton, Pa., a daughter of the late Pasquale and Angeline Morelli Marnell. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Latrobe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Joseph F. Skoloda, on May 26, 2000; six brothers , John, Nicholas, Joseph, James, Domenic and Benjamin Marnell; and a sister, Mary Morelli. She is survived by two daughters , Joann Schmucker of Ligonier and Janet Richards and her husband, John, of Latrobe; two sons , Francis Skoloda and his wife, Joyce, of Latrobe and Thomas Jay Skoloda and his wife, Dorothy, of Latrobe; a sister, Rose Gazze of Greensburg; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. There will be no public visitations. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. Monday, June 5, in St. John the Evangelist Church, Latrobe, with the Rev. Thomas Lukac as celebrant. Interment will be private. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. John the Evangelist Church Building Fund. The JOHN J. STANLEY G. SPOLNICK
Stanley G. Spolnick, 84, of Irwin, died Friday, June 2, 2000, in the Monsour Medical Center, Jeannette. He was born Feb. 27, 1916, in Herminie, a son of the late Jacob and Ann Spolnick. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a transmission specialist for Spitz Auto of McKeesport. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the Wendel-Herminie Athletic Association #2 of Wendel and the National Post of the American Legion. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred L. Skenzich Polovina Spolnick, in January 1999; four sons , Keith A., Kevin A. and Kurt A. Spolnick and Byron P. Serbanjack; and six brothers , Leonard, James, John, Edward, Peter and Joseph Spolnick. Surviving are four daughters , Kimberly Miracle of Fort Gordon, Ga., Karla and her husband, Herman Skatell, of Irwin, Karen and her husband, Anthony Ranieri Jr., of Greensburg, and Beth and her husband, Paul Hajducko of New Alexandria; two sons , Edward J. Spolnick of Irwin and Stanley P. Spolnick of Greensburg; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the JOSEPH F. MARY SEFCIK BAJGIER
Mary Sefcik Bajgier, 86, of Mt. Pleasant and Oakland, died Saturday, June 3, 2000, in UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh. She was born July 13, 1913, in Hecla, a daughter of the late Andrew and Katherine Mikolaj Sefcik. Mrs. Bajgier was a member of Visitation Roman Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant, and its Rosary Altar Society. Mrs. Bajgier and her husband, Edward, moved to Mt. Pleasant in 1945. She is survived by her loving family: husband, Edward Bajgier of Mt. Pleasant; and seven grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her son, Steve Bajgier in 1999; her daughters , Janet Bajgier Letki in 1996, and Rita Bajgier in 1997; her three brothers , Joseph, Andrew and Steve Bajgier; and a sister, Anna Kruppa. Friends will be received Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at GALONE-CARUSO'S, 204 Eagle St., Mt. Pleasant. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Visitation R.C. Church, Mt. Pleasant, with Father Anthony W. Ditto as celebrant. Interment in Visitation Parish Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. Russell L. Brunecke, 75, of Murrysville, died Sunday, June 4, 2000, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born Nov. 15, 1924, in Murrysville, a son of the late Lawrence and Ethel Cole Brunecke. He was a member of St. John Baptist de la Salle Church, Delmont. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sarah Jane Erbe. He is survived by a brother, Carl Brunecke and his wife, Jean, of Saltsburg; four sisters , Anna Mary Johnson of Butler, Betty Cain and her husband, William, of Delmont, Marion Polahar and her husband, Daniel, of Saltsburg and Joie Smith and her husband, John, of Stroudsburg; and a number of nieces and nephews. WILLIAM F. CARUTHERS SR.
William F. Caruthers Sr., 80, of Irwin, died Saturday, June 3, 2000. He was born March 6, 1920, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Carroll V. and Adele Rince Caruthers. He was a retired attorney of the law firm Caruthers and Caruthers, recently attaining his 50th year of practice. He was a graduate of Norwin High School, Class of 1938, the University of Michigan, Class of 1942, and attained his law degree from Dickinson College Law School. He was a 50-year member and past president of the Westmoreland Bar Association, past president of the Western Pa. Trial Lawyers Association, and former assistant district attorney of Westmoreland County. He was a lifelong Democrat. He was former vice president and a member of the board of directors of the Irwin Bank and Trust Co., and a former director and officer of Penn State Tool and Die of North Huntingdon. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps in the China-Burma-India Theater of Operations. He was a former AARP statewide legislative committee member and a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Irwin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James C. Caruthers. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Blair Caruthers; a daughter, Ann C. Taylor of Julian, Pa.; two sons , William F. Caruthers II and J. David Caruthers, both of North Huntingdon; five grandchildren, Kathleen Ann Caruthers, Margaret Blair Caruthers, Anne McHugh Caruthers, William Joseph Caruthers, and Justin James Taylor; two stepgrandchildren, Heather Taylor and James Taylor; also three stepgreat-grandchildren. Ronald A. Conforti, 69, of North Huntingdon, died Sunday, June 4, 2000, in McKeesport Hospital. He was born Dec. 16, 1930, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Antonio and Theda Zelenski Conforti. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as an auditor for the federal government, DCAA of Pittsburgh, and currently employed as a consultant of Powerex. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, North Huntingdon, a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean conflict, and past president for three terms with the Federal Government Accountants Association. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Anthony Conforti Jr. He is survived by his wife, Blanche Thiem Conforti; three sons , Michael A. and his wife, Michele, of Monroeville, Ronald A. Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth, and Carl T. Conforti, all of North Huntingdon; a brother, Kenneth Conforti of Georgia; two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Anthony Conforti; and two stepgrandchildren, Andrew and Richard Campbell. Philip J. DeNezza, 57, of North Huntingdon, died Sunday, June 4, 2000, in the Monsour Medical Center, Jeannette. He was born Nov. 3, 1942, in Greensburg, a son of the late Carson and Mary Garlotta DeNezza. Prior to his death, he was employed by Radford's BP of North Huntingdon. He was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception of Irwin, the McKeesport Sportsmen's Club and was a master baker for more than 30 years. Surviving are his wife of 32 years, Rose Mary Cassidy DeNezza; two sons , Sean Patrick and his wife, Kara DeNezza, of Manor and Regis DeNezza and his fiancee, Debbie Allan, both of Greensburg; a grandson, Jesse Roscosky; and three brothers , Eugene, Robert and Dennis DeNezza, all of New Jersey. Glenn W. Everley, 79, of Elizabeth Township, died Saturday, June 3, 2000, in UPMC McKeesport. Born Aug. 3, 1920, in Elizabeth Township. He was a retired salesman for Wonder Sales Co. in McKeesport. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Central Highlands United Methodist Church and was a member of the Order of Moose, Sutersville. He was also a member of the American Legion. He was a son of the late Matthew and Kathleen Deets Everly. Husband of the late Virginia Mains Everley. He is survived by a son, James, of Lafayette, Ind.; two grandchildren; a sister and two brothers , Kathleen Roebuck of New Stanton, James Everly of Elizabeth Township, and John Everly of Fayette City; nieces and nephews; and his companion, Julia Weir. Delores M. Hoenshell, 72, of Jeannette, died Saturday, June 3, 2000, in her home. She was born Feb. 9, 1928, in Jeannette, a daughter of the late John M. and Maude J. Fennell Loughner. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by GenCorp in Jeannette. She was a member of the Abundant Life Assembly of God Church in Greensburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Loughner; and two sisters , Naomi Rupe and Geraldine Hyde. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Henry L. Hoenshell; two sons , Wayne and wife, Cathy Hoenshell, of Ocala, Fla., and David and wife, Veronica Hoenshell, of Mesa, Ariz.; three brothers , Elmer and Huey Loughner of Jeannette, and Orrie Loughner of Greensburg; two sisters , Juniata "Junie" Music of Jeannette and Vera Jury of Penn Township; four grandchildren, Wayne Jr., John, Rachel and McKayla Hoenshell; and a great-grandchild, Colin Cavada.
