Anna Lourdes Hatton

Anna Lourdes Hatton, 100 of Honesdale died Saturday, July 4, 2009 at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles K. Hatton in 1979.

Born May 29, 1909 in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Clara Doyle Fox. After graduating from Honesdale High School she was a telephone operator in Honesdale until phones went to dial. Later she was a nurses aid at Wayne Memorial Hospital operating room.

She was a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale attending Mass daily when she was able.

Lourdes contributed her long life to her daily exercising and walking.

Surviving are her sons John Hatton of Honesdale, Charles Hatton and wife Annetta of Honesdale and Joseph Hatton and wife Cary of San Antonio, TX; a brother Robert Fox and wife Grace of Honesdale; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter Mary Alicia in 1993, a grandson Craig Hatton in 1995; brothers Jim, Joe and Tom Fox; sisters Mary Monaghan, Alice Crawford, Claire Madden, Kathryn Monaghan, Elizabeth Surdoval and Helen Sweezy.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 AM at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale. Interment will follow in St.
John's Cemetery. Friends may visit on Tuesday from 6 to 8 at the Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.

Roger Shephard Gibbons

Roger Shephard Gibbons, 66 of Honesdale, died Friday, July 3, 2009 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, the former Tanya L. Miszler. The couple married February 2, 1985.

Born November 27, 1942 in Jersey City, NJ, he was the son of the late John and Helen Shephard Gibbons. He retired from the US Army after 20 years of service. He served during the Vietnam War and served several tours there. Recently he was employed by Roadway where he drove truck for the past 23 years. He was a member of the White Mills Fire Department.

Roger will be fondly remembered as a music lover, friend to animals and a first rat grandchild spoiler!

Also surviving is his brother Arthur and wife Phyllis of North Arlington, NJ; a sister Deborah Sheedy of Lakewood, NJ; a son Thomas Gibbons of Michigan;  daughters Marlene Gibbons of Colorado, Dana McCormick and husband Michael of New Jersey; grandchildren Daniel and Brenna McCormick, Thomas Gibbons, Tara Roberts and Tabitha Norton; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 PM at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale. Friends may visit on Wednesday from 1 to service time. As per his request, cremation will follow at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory in Archbald.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Dessin Animal Shelter, 138 Miller Rd. Honesdale, PA 18431.

Mary Jane Ann Kaub

Mary Jane Ann Kaub, 86 of Hawley, died Thursday, July 2, 2009 at Wayne Woodlands Manor. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Emory Robert Kaub. The couple married Sept. 15, 1962.

Born March 7, 1923 in Hawley, she was the daughter and last surviving member of the Thomas and Edith Wood Drake family. She was a graduate of Hawley High School. For 50 years, she was a journalist for the News Eagle writing "Kaub's Corner" column and also the Wayne Independent.

She volunteered for Meals on Wheels for 16 years, "The Other Shop" in Honesdale and donated her time walking animals at the Dessin Animal Shelter. Mary Jane was one of the founding members of the Recycling Center in Wayne County.

She was a member of Queen of Peace Parish in Hawley and its Altar and Rosary Society.

Also surviving is her brother in law William Kaub and wife Mary of Throop; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her sister Marjorie Welch and brother Maitland Drake.

As per her request, cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory in Archbald. A Memorial Mass will be held at Queen of Peace Church in Hawley on Thursday at 10 AM. Interment will follow in Queen of Peace Cemetery. Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Dessin Animal Shelter, 138 Miller Dr. Honesdale, PA 18431.

Ralph Bartel

Ralph Bartel, 76 of Honesdale, died Friday, June 19, 2009 at Brighten at Julia Ribaudo in
Lake Ariel. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Carol-Ann Park. The
couple married May 7, 1956.

Born Nov. 24, 1932 in Montclair, NJ he was the son of Frank Bartel and Maggie Kivel. He
lived most his life in Watchung, NJ and Lavallette, NJ before retiring to Honesdale. His
44 year career of being a machinist for the railroad included working for Central
Railroad of NJ, ConRail and NJ Transit. In 1959 he was awarded the National Outstanding
Apprentice Award.

Ralph's hobbies centered around fishing, wildlife and many hours volunteering at the
Stourbridge Line Railroad.

Also surviving are his children Laurel Tysiak of Lake Ariel, Carol of Flagler Beach, FL,
Ralph Bartel of Belvidere, NJ and John Bartel of Williamsport, MD; grandchildren Theresa
Houston, Misty, Allaire and Heather Bartel and great granddaughters Taylor and Lilly;
several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on
Thursday at 11AM. Interment will follow in Lakeville Cemetery. Friends may visit on
Wednesday from 4 to 7 and Thursday from 10 to service time.

Ruth Havens

Ruth Havens, 101 of Bethany Village, died Saturday, June 13, 2009.

She was born April 25, 1908 in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Walter Burr and Mary
Grady Havens. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale.

She is survived by her sister Virginia Havens with who she resided at Bethany Village.

She was preceded in death by her sister Laura Farrell.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at St. Mary Magdalen Church in
Honesdale at 10 AM. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Arrangements by
Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.

June C. Hayes

June C. Hayes, 84 of Honesdale, died Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at home.
She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas J. Hayes who died
August 7, 2004. The couple married January 27, 1951.

Born January 18, 1925 in Honesdale, she was the daughter of the late
Leo and Mildred Goodline Fitzsimmons. She was a member of St. John
the Evangelist Parish and attended St. Mary Magdalen Church. She
enjoyed gardening, antiques, cooking and hosting parties. June was
well known for her sense of humor and her Christmas room that was
decorated year round. She was a loving Nanny and friend to many.

Surviving are her granddaughters Cathleen Hayes-Basile and husband
Nicholas and Pamela Hayes all of Bronx, NY.

She was preceded in death by her son Thomas A. Hayes in 1985.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 AM at
St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale. Interment will follow in St.
Mary's Cemetery. Friends may visit the Hessling Funeral Home, 428
Main St. Honesdale on Friday, May 29, 2009 from 4 to 7.

Aileen Frances Martin

Aileen Frances Martin, 84 of Honesdale, died Monday, May 25, 2009 at home. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward L. Martin Sr. on July 22, 2004. The couple married Nov. 28, 1948.

Born June 27, 1924 in Harrison, NJ she was the daughter and last surviving member of the late John and Catherine Manley Slattery family. She attended Our Lady of Queen of Peace in North Arlington, NJ.

A housewife and loving mother, she also worked as a clerk in the pharmacy at the former Rea & Derrick Drug Store in Honesdale which is now CVS. Aileen was one of the founding members of the block party at St. Mary's Church, one of the original volunteers for the Honesdale Biddy Basketball League and started the Aileen and Ed Martin Sr. basketball scholarship. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish, its Altar and Rosary Society and was an active member of the Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration.

Aileen enjoyed reading, movies, sewing, crafting and being around other people. She loved and supported all her grandchildren's activities.

Surviving are her sons Edward Martin Jr. and wife Barb and James Martin and wife Beth all of Hawley; her daughter Kathy Firmstone and husband Roger of Honesdale; sister-in-laws Isabel Polt and Alice Martin both of Honesdale; grandchildren Scott Firmstone and wife Cindy, Jason Firmstone and fiancee Debi Miller, Drew, Colin, Whitney, Tim, and Josh Martin; great grandchildren Ryan and Colleen Firmstone, Brett Miller and Caitlin Marold; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brothers John, Dennis, Tom, Neil, William and Gene Slattery; sisters Mary Rogers, Catherine Lomax and Rita Feldman.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale at 10 AM. Interment will follow in St.

Mary's Cemetery. Friends may visit the Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on Thursday from 5 to 8.

William Arthur Fries

William Arthur Fries, 86 of Prompton died unexpectedly Thursday, May 14, 2009 at home. He is survived by his wife, the former Doris Champion.

Born May 22, 1922 in Aldenville, PA he was the son of the late Arthur and Reba Fitze Fries. He was a US Army Air Force veteran who served during World War II. Later he owned and operated a welding business.

He was founding member of the Prompton Fire and Rescue Unit and also the Hawks Nest Rod and Gun Club. Bill was a member of the Prompton Community United Methodist Church.

Also surviving is his son Randal Fries and wife Sharon of Prompton;  daughters Andrea Schweighofer and husband Joseph and Nancy Gilbert and husband Gary all of Honesdale; a daughter-in-law Lorna Fries of Prompton; a sister Mary Ryan of Waymart; a brother Robert Fries and wife Laneta of Aldenville; and the greatest joy of his life, 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Michelle, his son Lawrence and a brother Karl.

As per his request, cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory. A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 18, 2009 at 3 PM at the Prompton Community United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Aldenville Cemetery. Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Prompton Community United Methodist Church, Prompton Fire and Rescue Unit or Honesdale Davita Dialysis Center.

Harold I. Parrish

Harold I. Parrish, 81 of Honesdale, died Wednesday May 13, 2009 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 11 years, the former Theresa Brooking. The couple married May 9, 1998. He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Mary V. Taninies, RN on January 13, 1994.

Born December 6, 1927 in Honesdale, he was the son of the late Isaac and Mary Wagner Parrish. He was a graduate of Honesdale Catholic High School. Later he joined the US Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict. Harold retired from the US Postal Service where he worked for many years.

He was a life member at Perkins Pond Hunting and Fishing Club, a member of Hose Co #1, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the VFW and St. John the Evangelist Parish.

Also surviving is his daughter Mary Beth and husband Dr. Kent E. Kester of Silver Springs, MD; grandchildren Sarah and Rachel Kester; brothers Charles Parrish of Honesdale and Ralph Parrish of Port Jervis, NJ; sister-in-laws Elizabeth (Parrish) Schneider of New Jersey, Su Ellen Tracey of Honesdale, Barbara Heiser and husband Keith of New Smithville, PA and Sara Redline and husband Blair of Jim Thorpe, PA; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother Ray.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at St. Mary Magdalen Church at 10 AM. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Friends may visit the Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on Sunday from 2 to 5.

Regina M. Lorent

Regina M. Lorent, RN, 75 of Honesdale died Monday, May 11, 2009 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Henry T. Lorent. The couple married Nov. 5, 1955.

Born May 17, 1933 in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Mary Josephine Farrell Boyle. She was a graduate of John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls High School in Philadelphia class of 1950 and received her nursing degree from Misericordia School of Nursing in Philadelphia, class of 1953. Later she worked at Bryn Mawr Hospital, Franklin Hospital, Wayne Memorial Hospital and Dr. William Dewar's office.

During her recovery from surgery, she enjoyed the camaraderie at physical therapy with the therapist and other patients at Excel and Motion Physical Therapy. She cared greatly and loved her grandchildren.

Regina was a volunteer at Women's Resource Center and Communities That Care. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale.

Also surviving are her sons Matt Lorent and wife Carolyn of Hawley and Darren Lorent and wife Penny of West Virginia; a daughter Lyn Wyatt and husband Donald of New Jersey; a granddaughter Skye Lorent of Hawley; a grandson Justin Wyatt of New Jersey; a sister Bernardine Robinson of Pleasant Mount; brother and sister-in-laws and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at St. John the Evangelist Church at 10 AM. Friends may visit on Thursday at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale from 2-4 and 7-9. As per her request, cremation will follow with interment in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Omer Suljic

Omer Suljic, 89 of Hoboken, NJ died May 6, 2009 at Wayne Woodlands Manor in Waymart. He is survived by his wife the former Ruth Roehricht.

Born Sept. 5, 1919 in Yugoslavia he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs Ramo Suljic. He was a retired union carpenter in New York City.

Surviving is his son Fred Suljic and wife Carmelyn Suljic of Lackawaxen; grandchildren Erik, Gregory and Lauren Suljic and Kerri Ann and husband Thomas Muller.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Linda Suljic.

Friends may visit the Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on Friday, May 8, 2009 from 7 to 9. Entombment will be in Madonna Cemetery in Fort Lee, NJ on Saturday at 11 AM.

Walter F. Eisele

Walter F. Eisele, 80, of Hawley, died peacefully Saturday morning, May 2, 2009 at home surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife, the former Irene Yazdzik of White Mills.

Born February 5, 1929 at Druskin Hospital in Manhatten, NY, he was the son of the late Alfred and Bertha Eisele. He was a 1947graduate of Hawley High School and served in the Korean War as a sole surviving son. He retired from the United States Post Office after faithfully being employed there for 33 years. Walter was a dedicated community servant and in 2000, he was inducted into the Wayne County Sports Hall of Fame where he was honored for being an exceptional athlete.

His greatest joy was his family. Walter was a terrific husband for
55 years,  Father of six, grandfather of 13 (with one on the way), great grandfather of 5 (with one on the way) and friend to many. He was a very special man, always providing direction and insights. His tremendous love and experience always shined through. His strength kept his family secure and his love kept his family warm wherever they were.

The family wishes to thank Geisinger Medical Center in Danville for the excellent care and St. John's Hospice for making his last 48 hours peaceful.

He was the proud  Father of six children: Kurt, his wife Janet, and their children and families: Jason, Polly, Connor, and Julia Eisele; Matt, Amanda, and Case Eisele; Nicole Eisele, her fiancé Chris Duda, and Zachary and Nicholas Eisele. Karen and Al Giombetti and their children Adam and Stefanie. Brenda and Jimmy Watson and their children, Jacob, Jeremy, and Joel Watson, Jimmy and Jonell Watson and their children Isabella and Arianna; Mark and Nancy Eisele, and their daughter Christina Beauman; Eric and Donna Eisele, and their children Jack and Sam; Jenifer and Anthony Manzione, and their children Lucrezia, Dominic, and Alicia Manzione.

The family will receive relatives and friends Wednesday morning from 9:00 ? 10:00 AM at St. Joseph?s Roman Catholic Church in White Mills, PA. Services will follow at 10AM. Interment of cremated remains will be in Indian Orchard Cemetery. Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home,
428 Main St. Honesdale. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans @ www.dav.org in honor of Walter Eisele, a Korean War Veteran.

Monica F. (Rose) Palka

Monica F. (Rose) Palka, 87 of Honesdale, died Tuesday April 28, 2009
at Wayne Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband
Edward Palka who died April 3, 1989.

Born March 8, 1922 in Cherry Ridge, she was the daughter of the late
Joseph and Catherine Fey Rose. Before retiring, Monica was a
seamstress at Katz Underwear Factory for many years and in her spare
time she enjoyed sewing. She was an active member of St. John the
Evangelist Parish in Honesdale and a member of Catholic  daughters of
Americas, Court St. Martin and recently received her 50 year pin.

Surviving is her daughter Sharon Palka with whom she resided; her
brothers Edmund J. Rose and wife Ethel of Cherry Ridge and John Rose
of Turbottsville, PA; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister Verna Bonear.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 AM at
St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale. Interment will follow in St.
Mary's Cemetery. Friends may visit on Friday from 5-8 at the Hessling
Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.
