EMMA M. ELIAS BETAR
Emma M. Elias Betar, 78, of North Huntingdon, died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, in the Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. She was born Jan. 29, 1922, in Jeannette, a daughter of the late Anthony and Martha Abraham Elias. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Irwin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters , Bessie Phillips, Ann Hageal and Dolores Gray; and five brothers , A.B. Elias, Mike Elias, Lou Elias, George Elias and Arthur Elias. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Albert E. Betar; four daughters , Susan Berton, Peggy Morgan and her husband, Kenneth, Sandy Kuchma and her husband, Terry, and Cindy Betar, all of North Huntingdon; two grandchildren, Nathan and Stacie Morgan; a sister, Margaret Wisdom of New Kensington; also nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. R. Bruce Maxwell officiating. Interment will follow in Irwin Union Cemetery, North Huntingdon.
FRANK W. BYERS
Frank W. Byers, 87, of Arbutus Park Manor in Johnstown, formerly of Greensburg, died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, in UPMC Lee Regional in Johnstown. He was born March 15, 1913, in Tarrs, a son of the late Marion F. and Sarah Ann Hunker Byers. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a mill manager with the former Greensburg Lumber and Mill Company. Frank was a member and former board member of the Jeannette Assembly of God Church. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Agnes Ross Byers; a brother, Fred E. Byers; and four sisters , Hazel B. Bizub, Maude L. Longsdorf, Ruth Anna O'Brien, and Grace B. Tarr. He is survived by his daughter, Kay Spriggs and her husband, Frank Jr., of Johnstown; and a grandson, Scott A. Spriggs and his wife, Sherrie Englehart, of Williamsville, N.Y. Friends will be received at the BARNHART FUNERAL HOME, 505 E. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Martin R. Koss officiating. Entombment will follow in the Colonial Chapel Mausoleum, St. Clair Cemetery.
JOSEPH J. DENASTASIO
Joseph J. "Spaghetti Joe" Denastasio, 86, of Delmont, died Monday, May 29, 2000. He was born Dec. 4, 1913, in Italy, a son of the late Antonio and Sofia (Pierannunzio) D'Anastasio. Joe was the former owner of the Spaghetti Steak House and the former co-owner of the Cozy Inn, both in Murrysville, and was also a World War II Army veteran and recipient of the Purple Heart. He was preceded in death by two sisters , Jessie Bartoni and Edith Ventura. Surviving are his wife, Frances Butkovich Denastasio of Delmont; a daughter, Judy Denastasio of Hallandale Beach, Fla.; a stepson, Bob Donhoffner of Indianapolis, Ind.; a sister, Ann Smail of Delmont; several nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the EDWIN N. WOLFE FUNERAL HOME INC., Export, where services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. with Father Dismas Young officiating. EDWARD T. DOMURAT
Edward T. Domurat, 66, of Greensburg, died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, in Westmoreland Manor, Hempfield Township. He was born Oct. 27, 1933, in Calumet, a son of the late Adam and Josephine Grabowski Domurat. Prior to retirement, he had been employed by I.B.M. of Pittsburgh with 30 years of service. He was a member of the Church of St. Paul, Greensburg, and a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with an associate's degree in engineering. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict having served in the U.S. Air Force. Edward was a member of the B.P.O.E. #868, Mt. Pleasant, and the S.N.P.J. Lodge of Herminie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Louis Domurat; and a sister, Violet Domurat. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy F. Brosky Domurat; three sons , David A. and his wife, Nancy Johnson, of Greensburg, Edward A. Domurat of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Thomas A. Domurat of Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Danielle "Mary Jo" Domurat of Sacramento, Calif.; two grandchildren, Eric and Ashley Johnson of Greensburg; three brothers , Samuel and his wife, Alice Domurat, of Sherman Oaks, Calif., William Demurat of Latrobe, and Frank and his wife, Loretta Demurat, of Greensburg; two sisters , Frances Musa of Greensburg and Rose Marie Merich of Delmont; a sister-in-law, Ann Domurat; and several nieces and nephews. Jack Donovan, 65, of Marblehead, Mass., on Saturday, May 27, 2000. Husband for 30 years of Mary (Pepper) Donovan; son of the late Robert K. and Marie (Meyer) Donovan; Father of John, Doug and Brian; brother of Robert Donovan, Alice Edwards, Rosemary Gardille, Lillian Ward and the late Richard Donovan. EDWARD L. GENTILO
Edward L. Gentilo, 82, of Jeannette, died Monday, May 29, 2000, in Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. He was born March 5, 1918, in Jeannette, a son of the late Pio and Mary Cercone Gentilo. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the Elliott Co. of Jeannette. Eddie was a member of the Sacred Heart Church of Jeannette, the Sacred Heart Society #49, a lifetime member of both the Westmoreland County Firemen's Association and the Grandview Fire Hall. He was also a member of the Jeannette Italian Club. Eddie enjoyed sports and was a co-founder of the Jeannette Midgets Football Organization, a player/coach for the Diaz Club softball team and a former member of the Jeannette American Legion Bowling League. Before his retirement, Eddie was active in the United Clubs calling bingo to raise money to build a local hospital which is now the Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. During his retirement, he turned his time to the youth and formed a Juvenile Commission for first-time offenders and served 14 years as chairman with the commission. Eddie also joined the Civil Service Council to screen prospective firemen and police officers for the city and served on the Jeannette City Parking Authority. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence Gentilo; two sisters , Evelyn Roscher and Mary Battaglini; and a grandson, Scott D. Gentilo. He is survived by his wife, Viola Tocco Gentilo; a daughter, Donna McCullough and husband, Gary, of Jeannette; two sons , Dennis Gentilo and wife, Louella, of Jeannette and Richard Gentilo and wife, Joyce, of Waldorf, Md.; two sisters , Viola D'Altorio of Monessen and Virginia Nannarone of Dearborn, Mich.; three grandsons, Richard, Robert and Mark Gentilo; a great-granddaughter, Madison Elizabeth Gentilo; and numerous nieces and nephews. DR. WILLIAM E. HUBER
Dr. William E. Huber, 90, of Acme, died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, in the Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Sept. 12, 1909, in Erie, a son of the late Dr. Walter and Sophie Shaeffer Huber. He was a retired dentist whose career covered a period of more than 65 years. A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Dentistry, Dr. Huber began his practice in 1931 and was located in the Jenkins Arcade in downtown Pittsburgh for more than 40 years. He later moved his business to his home near Acme. He was a dedicated promoter of sound dental health through preventative maintenance, good dental hygiene and sound nutritional practices. "Doc" Huber would eagerly discuss his views on diet and nutrition at any opportunity. Dr. Huber was a longtime member of the Pennsylvania Dental Association. He was a dedicated husband and Father and he will be greatly missed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Rubis Huber. He is survived by two sons , William C. Huber of Acme and James R. Huber of Bridgeville. Friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 406 E. Washington St., Mt. Florence P. Jablonka, 84, of North Huntingdon, died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, in Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. She was born March 17, 1916, in Brooklyn, N.Y., a daughter of the late Robert and Mary Vaneski Schultz. She was a member of St. Agnes Church, North Huntingdon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Sr., in 1957; her son, Robert, and daughter, Lorraine Jablonka; and a sister, Alice Curran. She is survived by her son, Michael Jablonka Jr. and his wife, Louise, of North Huntingdon. JOHN SCOTT JACOBSEN
John Scott Jacobsen, 91, of Sun City West, Ariz., formerly of White hall, Pittsburgh, passed away Friday, May 5, 2000. A graduate of the University of Michigan, he spent his professional years working as an engineer for Pitt-Des Moines Inc. During World War II, he served as an officer in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater. John will be remembered for his courteous, kind and generous nature; and for his passionate regard and support for those less fortunate than he. Preceding him in death was his wife of 45 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Duncan Jacobsen. Following her death, John married a family friend, Grace Sutton Jacobsen, also deceased. Survivors include his wife, Helen Lang Jacobsen; daughter, Karen Shelley; grandchildren, Roy Shelley III and Heather Shelley; and great-grandsons, Dustin Shelley and Trevor Shelley. The Rev. Dale Roddy, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Jeannette, will officiate at graveside services in Jeannette Memorial Park, 1100 Altman Road, at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 3. ADELIA B. KUHNS
Adelia B. Kuhns, 89, died at Anna Maria Nursing Home in Aurora, Ohio, Monday, May 29, 2000. She was born in Greensburg, Dec. 31, 1910, and was a resident of Aurora, Ohio. She was a graduate of the Greensburg High School and the California State Teachers College in Pennsylvania and taught for a few years in the Greensburg school system. She was a member of the Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Bainbridge Township, Ohio, and her hobby was sewing and making her own clothing. She is survived by a son, Daniel Bowman Kuhns (wife, Rebecca); and grandchildren, James Kenneth Kuhns (wife, Rori) of Stow, Ohio, and Kelley Leigh Rayle (husband, John) of Aurora, Ohio. Other survivors include sisters , Esther Johnson, Luella Glunt and Lenore DeJaiffe, all of Greensburg, and Betty Allwine of Hummelstown, Pa. Her husband, Kenneth, and a brother, Paul E. CHARLES F. McLEAN
Charles F. McLean, 79, of Westminster, Colo., formerly of West Point, Pa., died Sunday, May 28, 2000. He was born Sept. 26, 1920, in Kregar, Pa., a son of the late Charles H. and Louise Beistel McLean. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, the 671st A.A.A. Battery in the New Guinea conflict. He was a former employee of the Rolling Rock Estates and retired from Robertshaw Controls in New Stanton. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Kunrod McLean; a daughter, Charlene Wojtseck; and a sister, Ida Mae "Cubby" Burton. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Robert (Charlotte) Fleming of Indiana, Pa.; a son, Charles F. McLean of Westminster, Colo.; and grandchildren, Paula Wojtseck Kenny of Tucson, Ariz., and Amber and Steven McLean of Westminster, Colo. Friends will be received at the C. Helen (Luckinich) Moran, 74, of East McKeesport, died peacefully Tuesday, May 30, 2000. Beloved wife of 53 years to William "Red" Moran; loving mother and best friend to son, William; and daughter, Sandra Lee Muskovac and her husband, Joseph; and sister of Anne O'Connell. Preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Mary Luckinich; brother, Thomas Luckinich; and sister, Barbara Luckinich. Also survived by grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was a former bookkeeper at Valley Auto Parts in Wilmerding; and a member of AARP in East McKeesport and V.I.P. in North Versailles. Anna Michel Mowry, 91, of New Brighton, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2000, in the Medical Center, Beaver. She was born July 26, 1908, in Jeannette, a daughter of the late Anton and Marie Bischof Michel. Although she was a gifted student, Anna chose to forego her education to help raise her younger siblings following the death of their mother . A resident of New Brighton, she and her husband, John S. Mowry, moved there from Jeannette in 1940. After only 10 years in the area, John passed away on March 18, 1950. She leaves two sisters and a brother, Mary Marienwald of Rochester, Geraldine Patterson of New Brighton and Kenneth Michel of Monaca; a sister-in-law, Margaret Chalfant of North Huntingdon Township; two brothers -in-law, Ray and Tom Mowry, both of Florida; two nieces and a nephew, Cindy Grant of Monaca, Janet Keyser of Stahlstown and Jeff Michel of Monaca. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister, Arthur, Carl and Joseph Michel and Elizabeth Smail; and a sister-in-law, Betty Michel.
