Rita Minor
Rita Minor, 83 of Aldenville, died Monday morning, December 1, 2008 at Wayne Woodlands
Manor in Waymart. She was preceded in death by her husband James Minor Sr. who died June
12, 2006. The couple married Oct. 16, 1946.
Born November 11, 1925 in Browndale, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Susan
Kuruts Lupyak. Before retiring, she was employed by Laura Jayne Dress Factory.
Surviving are her two daughters Patricia Glosenger of Honesdale and Bernadine Seeley and
husband Stanley of Lake Ariel; a brother Robert Lupyak of Honesdale; five grandchildren
Melissa Freiermuth, Amanda Minor, Ryan and Ashley Glosenger, and Nicholas Seeley; 4 great
grandchildren Dacota and Jocelyn Freiermuth and Matthew and Makayla Marcinkevich; nieces
and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her son James Minor Jr.; grandson Chad Seeley;
granddaughter Heather Glosenger; brothers John Gerchock and Stephen Lupyak; sisters Alice
Slish and Anna Mae Gilbert.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at St. Mary Magdalen Church in
Honesdale at 10 AM. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may visit
Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9.
James W. Kean
James W. Kean, 65 of Honesdale, passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2008 at his home.
Born January 22, 1943 in Equinunk, he was the son of Grace Schuman Kean of Equinunk and the late Wilfred Kean. He was an excavator most of his life. Before his retirement, he
worked for M.C. Bodick Excavating for many years until taking ill.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and honorary member of the VFW Post 531 in Honesdale and a member of the Equinunk Sportsmen's Association.
Surviving is his daughter Kelly Predmore and husband Bob; their children Karlee and Kody;
his son James M. and wife Lily; their children Alyssa, Kaitlin, and Gary; his three
sisters Leona White and husband Jack of Ringwood, NJ, Leora DuMond of Honesdale and Lois Young and husband Wally of Equinunk; many nieces and nephews.
Cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory in Archbald. The family will receive
friends on Thursday from 6 to 9 PM at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale. A
graveside service will be held on Friday at 11 AM at the Pine Mill Cemetery, by Pastor
Alice Pedone.

Patrick Joseph Newcomb
Patrick Joseph Newcomb Sr., 72 of Honesdale, died Saturday, November 29, 2008 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, the
former Nanci E. Carmody. The couple married December 1, 1990.
Born September 17, 1936 in Jessup, he was the son of the late Paul and Regina Munley Newcomb. He attended Benjamin Franklin High School in Carbondale and later enlisted in the US Air Force in January of 1955, serving during the Korean Conflict. After returning
from the military, Pat managed Woolworth Stores in the Philadelphia area and Atlantic City. Later he became a self-employed wall paper hanger and painter. Pat also found much joy and satisfaction, proudly working for the Family Foundation School in Hancock,
NY. He was great friend of Bill W's, blessed with 37 years of "one day at a time."
Pat was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honedsale and shared an hour of
Eucharistic Adoration until taking ill.
He was a loving husband, Father, grandfather and a hero and inspiration to many.
Also surviving are his sons Patrick J. Newcomb, Jr. of Boca Raton, FL and Matthew J.
Newcomb of Honesdale; a daughter Amy and husband Eric Williams of Honesdale;
grandchildren Benjamin and Emilia Williams; brothers Phil Newcomb and wife Maryann of
Jermyn, Bobby Newcomb and wife Carol of Archibald, Paul Newcomb of Eynon, Michael Newcomb and wife Karen of Lake Ariel, Charley of Carbondale, Jimmy Newcomb of Forest City; sisters Ann and husband Bob Kilmer of Carbondale, Jean Cobb of West Palm Beach, FL, Mary and husband Billy Taylor of Milford, CT, Margaret Solomon of Newton Lake, PA and Sally and husband Pete Warren of Newton Lake, PA; an aunt Grace Munley of Jessup; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister in law Linda.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008 at St. Mary Magdalene Church in
Honesdale at 10 AM. As per his request, cremation will follow. Interment will be in St.
Mary's Cemetery. Friends may visit the Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on
Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9.

Joseph Frank Hessling II
Joseph Frank Hessling II, 69 of Honesdale, fought a courageous fight with pancreatic
cancer. He was entrusted with the lord on Friday, November 21, 2008 surrounded by his
family. He is survived by his wife of 10 years, the former Cherryl L. Compton. The
couple married Aug. 8, 1998.
Joe was born, raised and lived his life in Honesdale and was the son of the late Joseph
B. Hessling who died Jan. 20, 1971 and the late Blanche T. Moken who died Jan. 18, 2008.
He was an integral part of the community, having touched many lives. A graduate of St.
Mary Magdalene Catholic High School " Hoca High," Joe soon enlisted in the United States
Air Force and served proudly from 1957 to 1961. While serving, he met his first wife of
32 years, Kathy Hessling.
He was employed with Katz Underwear Company for 30 years in various positions and
responsibilities to include, head of design computer technology. In recent years, Joe was
employed by the Wayne Independent as circulation director of 5 different papers. While
there, he was able to indulge in one of his favorite pass times, genealogy and
co-published five pictorial history books of Wayne County and its residents. This was
one of his proudest achievements. An avid train fan, Joe collected and chased trains
since his childhood.
Joe was a life-time member of Texas #4 Fire Company and was a 3rd Degree Member of the
Knights of Columbus.
To the loving husband, brother and Father to us all, we will love you for ever more.

He is survived by his sons Joe Jr., Fran and John Hessling; step-son Brandon; daughter
Michelle; brothers Gerald Hessling and wife Nancy, Thomas Hessling and wife Ann, John

Siepiela and husband Sam; nieces and nephews.

Emilio "York" Quinones
Emilio "York" Quinones, Jr., 65 of Berlin Twp., died Thursday, November 13, 2008 at home after an illness. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, the former Carol Nau. The couple married May 17, 1975.
Born August 23, 1943 in Caguas, Puerto Rico, he was the son of Emilio Quinones Sr. of Puerto Nuevo, Puerto Rico and the late Juana Rivera who died in 1986. He was a graduate of Bushwick High School in Brooklyn, NY. He worked for 22 years with Eastern Airlines in inventory control. Before retiring, he worked for 13 years with Verizon.
Emilio loved boating on Lake Wallenpaupack, gardening, was an avid NY Jets and NY Mets Fan and was well known for his sense of humor. He loved his family very much especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughters Danielle Hanson and husband Scott of Honesdale and Cassandra Kelly and husband Paul of Titusville, FL; step-son William Lee of Honesdale; grandchildren Jesse, Nykholas, Sara, Kristofer, Elijah, Emilya and Braydon; brothers and sisters; many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a brother Victor, a sister Helga and niece Mary Lillian.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:30 at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale with Pastor Jim Corbin of the Beach Lake Free Methodist Church officiating. Friends may visit on Sunday from 1-3 and 6-8. As per his request, cremation will follow.
Dr. John P. Sutton
Dr. John P. Sutton, 81 of Honesdale, died Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at Marian Community Hospital in Carbondale. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, the former Mary Moritz. The couple married July 16, 1949.
Born March 9, 1927 in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Layton and Mildred Miller Sutton. Dr. Sutton graduated from Waymart High School and East Stroudsburg University and received his master's degree and Doctorate from Lehigh University. After serving two and a half years in the Army, including a year as part of the Army occupation in Japan, he began his educational administration career in 1951 as principal of the South Canaan Consolidated School. He later served as high school principal in Hop Bottom, Susquehanna County, and elementary principal in Elizabethtown, Lancaster County before returning to Wayne County in 1960 as assistant County Superintendent of Schools. From 1965 to 1972 he served as Wayne County Superintendent of Schools and from 1972 to 1989 as Superintendent of the Wayne Highlands School District.
Over his career Dr. Sutton was involved in numerous educational and civic activities. He was active for many years with WVIA TV (channel
44) and served a two year term as chairman of its board. He served as vice president of the Pennsylvania Association of County School Superintendents, President of the Northeast Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators, President of the Wayne County PSEA and its secretary/treasurer for many years. He was a 47 year (since 1960) member, past president and Paul Harris Fellow of the Honesdale Rotary Club. Dr. Sutton was also a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale where was a lector. He was also a 40 plus year member of the Waymart American Legion.
Dr. Sutton was an avid outdoorsman who especially liked deer and small game hunting. He enjoyed
his retirement years which were spent in a much more relaxed and peaceful mode than his working years.
He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Louise Baylers and Carolyn Wilson; brother Robert Sutton.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Parish on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008
at 10 AM. As per his request, cremation was held. Private interment will be in St. Patrick's
Cemetery at the families convenience. Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home,
428 Main St. Honesdale.
Dorothy Ann Pachuta
Dorothy Ann Pachuta, 76 of Mt. Pleasant Twp.,Honesdale, went on her journey on November 8, 2008,
surrounded by her loving children.
Dorothy was born in Clifton, NJ on Septemeber 14, 1932, she was the daughter of the late
Patrick and Florence Finn Talty. She moved to Wayne, New Jersey, where she raised her
family before moving to Honesdale, PA in 1983. She and her family purchased Donamite
Donuts, which they ran for 13 years. Dorothy also worked with her son Stephen Pachuta
at the Four Corners Cafe in Rileyville for three years.
Dorothy was an outgoing, joyful person with a unique ability for touching people's
hearts. She truly felt that strangers were only friends she hadn't met yet. She loved
people, animals and her garden. Her abiding faith was a source of strength and comfort
to her always. She was a member of the St. Cecilia and St. James Altar and Rosary
Society and a loyal member of the local Red Hat Society. She enjoyed her monthly Bingo
group and was grateful to live in such a warm and loving community.
Dorothy was pre-deceased by her husband, William , son William Patrick and daughter
Patricia. She leaves behind two daughters: Michele and Margaret; and two sons: Stephen
and Michael. Dorothy also leaves a son-in-law, Gene Fisher, as well as two
daughter-in-laws: Holly Howard and Kristy Pachuta, Dorothy was forever grateful for her
four grandchildren: Jessica, Stephen, Kally and Samuel. They were the lights of her
life. Lastly, Dorothy leaves behind her best friend and beloved sister Patricia Biondo,
along with many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was so grateful to her angels on the 7th floor at CMC for their love.
As per her request, cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory. A Memorial Mass
will be celebrated at St. Cecilia's Church on Thursday at 10 AM. Interment will follow
in St. Cecilia's Cemetery.

Michael Thomas "Mookie" Breidenstein
Michael Thomas "Mookie" Breidenstein, 56 of Honesdale, died Saturday, November 8, 2008 at
Wayne Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Born November 25, 1951 in Honesdale, he was the son of the late Frank and Jeanne Miller
Breidenstein. He was a graduate of Honesdale High School, class of 1972. For many
years, Mike was a painter and recently worked for David T. Seber Landscaping. He was a
well known New York Giants and New York Mets Fan. He enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, playing
chess and computer games.
Surviving are his brothers Lemuel of Honesdale, Kenneth of St. Joseph, MS, Peter of
Ashville, NC, Paul and Kevin both of Honesdale; sisters Marion Martin and Josephine Wood
both of Honesdale and Gwen Kloepper of St. Joseph, MS; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Richard and John and an infant sister Florence.
As per his request, cremation was held at Maple Hill Crematory in Archbald. His family
will receive friends on Thursday from 5-7 at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St.
Honesdale with a Memorial Service at 7PM. Pastor Rebekah Sweet of the Honesdale Central
United Methodist Church will be officiating. Private interment will be in Clinton Center
Cemetery.

Madalyn C. Abbey
Madalyn C. Abbey, 102, a longtime Honesdale resident, died peacefully at home early
Wednesday morning, Nov. 5, 2008. She was preceded in death by her husband and the love
of her life Irving S. Abbey who died April 4, 1935.
Born August 22, 1906 in Atco, PA, she was the daughter and last surviving family member
of the late George A. and Magdalena "Lillie" Reinfurt Case. She spent her childhood in
Welcome Lake before moving to Honesdale in 1922. She was a faithful member of the
Central United Methodist Church in Honesdale since 1925 and celebrated her 100th birthday
there. For 55 years, Madalyn was employed at Katz Underwear Factory, first as a sewing
machine operator and later as a floor supervisor.
She is survived by her son Irving R. Abbey and wife Edith M. of East Sroudsburg, PA; her
grandson Daniel W. Abbey and wife Anna Marie T. of South Bound Brook, NJ; also many other
relatives and friends that will miss her dearly.
She was also preceded in death by her brother Arthur and sisters Frances, Margaret and
Jeanette.
Friends may visit the Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on Saturday from
11-12. Funeral services will be held at noon at the funeral home. Private interment
will be in Hamlin Cemetery.
