Hilda S. Lee
Hilda S. Lee, 86 of Hop Bottom, PA died Sunday, February 15, 2009 at Barnes Kasson Hospital in Susquehanna. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Lee in 1990.
Born December 9, 1922 in Equinunk, PA she was the daughter of the late Edward and Beatrice Craven Stanton. A housewife and loving mother, Hilda enjoyed canning, the outdoors, gardening and watching the wild birds.
She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxillary in Knoxville, PA, the Board of Elections in Hop Bottom and of St. Peter's Epicopal Church in Tunkhannock.
Surviving are her daughters Linda and husband Dr. John Magill of Hop Bottom, Jade Swartwood and husband Daryl of Bloomsburg, Jan Lee, Sonji Lee and husband Neil Andre and Sunseri Lee all of Montrose; sisters Ada Levanowitz of Blossburg and Hazel Williams of Honesdale; 8 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Andra Lane Swartwood; brothers Walter, Thomas, Wilson and Gerald Stanton; sisters Eleanor Schuman, Esther Johnson, Louise Van Orden and Dorothy Henderson.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Feb. 20, 2009 at Honesdale Central United Methodist Church, Wesley Room at Church and 11th St. at
2 PM. The family will recieve friends Friday from 1 to service time.
As per her request, cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory with interment in East Dyberry Cemetery in the spring.

John Paul "PT" Tallman Jr.
John Paul "PT" Tallman Jr., 60 of Waymart died Friday, February 13,
2009 at Mercy Hospital in Scranton after a brief illness. He is survived by his fiancee Sharon Faatz Lillie.
Born February 16, 1948 in Honesdale, he was the son of John "Jack"
Tallman of Carley Brook and the late Grace E. Ostrander Tallman who died July 1, 2007. He was a graduate of Honesdale High School, class of 1966. Later he joined the US Navy and served on the USS America during the Vietnam War. For the past 15 years, he was employed by Tim Kohrs Excavating as a heavy equipment operator.
An avid outdoors man, he enjoyed four wheeling, hunting, fishing and camping, especially at Ponderosa Pines Campground. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR, cooking and barbecuing.
He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale.
Also surviving are his sons Wade and wife Renee and Neal Tallman all of Waymart and Bryan Tallman of Browndale; his best buddy Nick Lillie of Waymart; brothers Michael D. Tallman and wife Lisa of Honesdale and Bernie Tallman of Honesdale; a sister Linda and husband Mike Monaghan of Monroe, NH; grandchildren Cody, Nathan and Tyler Tallman; nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 AM at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale. Cremation will follow at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory. Friends may visit the Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on Tuesday from 4 to 7.

Leonard Thomas Erhardt
Leonard Thomas Erhardt, 75 of White Mills, died Saturday, February 7, 2009 at sea while
on vacation. He is survived by his fiancee Susan Miszler of Hawley. He was preceded in
death by his first wife the former Janet Turner and his second wife the former Florence
Barbini.
Born August 15, 1933 in Girdland, he was the son of the late Lee and Irene Erhardt. He
was a graduate of Honesdale High School and later was a US Navy veteran of the Korean
Conflict. Lenny was employed at Dorsan Construction and later with Human Relations for
Wayne County.
He was a member of the Honesdale VFW, former member of the Honesdale Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Fatman's Club. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Honesdale Country Club. He enjoyed entertaining and being with family and friends which was an important part of his life.
Also surviving is his son Stephen Erhardt of Hollywood, CA; step-daughter Barb and
husband Tom Ruffalo of Hawley and their daughters Jennifer and Nicole; step-son-in-law
Atty. Brian Cali of Dunmore and his sons Cameron and Colby; sister-in-laws Faye "Skip"
Erhardt of Honesdale and Jodie Erhardt of Warren, PA; extended grandchildren and great
grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter Kathleen Marie, a son John Robert, step-daughter
Donna Cali, brothers Gene and Lyle Erhardt.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Feb. 16, 2009 at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main
St. Honesdale at 11 AM with Rev. Deborah Dailey officiating. The family will receive
friends from 9:30 to service time on Monday.

Loretta J. Miller
Loretta J. Miller, 90 formally of Hawley and recently of Carbondale Nursing Home, passed away peacefully, Monday February 2, 2009 at Marian Community Hospital in Carbondale. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Edwin "Snoz" Miller who died January of 1980.
Born June 23, 1918 in Vandling, PA she was the daughter and last surviving member of the Richard and Loretta Smith Kilpatrick family.
She was a graduate of Vandling High School where she played on the girls basketball team. She later worked for the Hawley Inn where she met her future husband Snoz Miller, the legendary Wayne County softball pitcher.
Loretta was an avid sports fan and enjoyed being the scorekeeper at her husbands and daughters softball games. She was of the Catholic faith and attended Queen of Peace Church in Hawley.
Surviving is her son Gerald Miller of Boca Raton, FL and a daughter Connie Ruane of Waymart; grandchildren Jerry Miller of Hawley, Debora Miller of AZ, Jeffrey Miller of Greeley, Robert Miller of FL, Kyle Ruane of Carbondale, Scott Ruane of Waymart; great grandchildren Jennifer and Jodi Miller of Hawley, Dani and Katie Rose Miller of FL and Natalie Ruane of Carbondale.
Also preceding her in death is her son Jan Miller and brother Richard Kilpatrick.
A Blessing Service will be held Friday at 1:30 PM at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale. Interment will follow in Green Gates Cemetery in Hawley. Friends may visit on Friday at the funeral home from 11 to service time.

Reva Tallman Dorsey
Reva Tallman Dorsey, 77 of Honesdale, died Sunday, February 1, 2009 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Born on January 1, 1932 in Brackenridge, PA, she was the daughter and last surviving family member of the late Guy and Margaret Bengel Tallman. She was a long-time resident of Honesdale and was employed as a seamstress by many local factories including Hussco Shoe, Banner Slippers, for 28 years at Katz Underwear Co. ans later at Waymart Knitting.
She was a loving mother and enjoyed the company of her friends when she was able.
Surviving is her son Mark J. Dorsey and wife Denise of Greenfield Twp., PA; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers Raymond Tallman, Walter Tallman, Guy Tallman Jr. and Thomas Tallman.

Shirley E. Longo
Shirley E. Longo, 59 of Honesdale, died unexpectedly Thursday, January 29, 2009 at home. She is survived by her husband Joseph E. Longo Jr.
Born September 4, 1949 in Bayshore, NY she was the daughter of the late William and Marjorie Albin Sears. A housewife and mother, Shirley was also a faithful and loyal waitress at Cordaro's Restaurant
in Honesdale. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale.
Shirley devoted her life to her children and grandchildren.
Also surviving are her children Joseph III of Beach Lake, Vincent and wife Judy of Sterling, Christine and husband Keith of North Carolina, Nelson and wife Alethia of Beach Lake, Robert and William of Honesdale; brothers William Sears, Michael and Patrick Connors; a sister Marjorie Garcia; grandchildren Amanda S., Robbie, Amanda V., Todd, Thomas, Brandon, Kevin, Katie, Nicholas and Amber.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Honesdale. As per her request, cremation will follow. Friends may visit the Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on Monday from 5 to 8.
John Murry Parker
John Murry Parker, age 90, of Honesdale, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 27, 2009. He is survived by his wife Ann Allenbacher Parker to whom he was married to for 28 years.
He was born June 2, 1918 in Hawley and was the son of the late James and Mary McDermett Parker. Mr. Parker was a graduate of Honesdale Catholic High School, Wayne Commercial School, and the Temple University School of Pharmacy.
He served overseas in World War II as a pharmacist with the 84th Field Hospital. After his service in 1945, he worked with his Father James Parker in Parker's Pharmacy on Main St. in Honesdale. After his Father's death he purchased the building and operated the business until his retirement on May 28, 1983.
He was a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Honesdale and a member of the Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel for many years.
Also surviving is his son William Parker and wife Jacqueline of Landenberg, PA; a daughter Rebecca Edwards and husband Vincent of Peckville, PA; a sister, Sister Mary Magdalena Parker, RSM, of Mercy Center, Dallas, PA; four grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Jean Mullen Parker; a sister, Sister James Mary Parker, RSM, a sister Grace Patelunas; a brother Joseph Parker.
As per his request, Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10AM at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Honesdale. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Erie St. Honesdale at the families convenience. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.

Alviena Black
Alviena Black, age 84, of Honesdale, PA died Thursday January 22, 2009 at Mid Valley Hospital Hospice Unit. She was preceded in death by her husband Edwin Black who died in 1999.
She was born March 05, 1923 in Archibald, PA and was the daughter of the late Sydney and Bertha Miller Patten. She belonged to the Carley Brook United Methodist Church, where she served as Treasurer. She retired from Katz Underwear Co. after working over thirty years as a seamstress. Her hobbies included baking and sewing.
She is survived by two granddaughters Melissa Rickard and Melinda Howey ;great-grandchildren Samantha, Timothy, and Jeremy Howey.
Besides her husband and parents, Alviena was preceded in death by two children William Black and Joan Hansen, brothers Sydney, Fred, Harry, Milford, and Rendell Patten; and a sister Tina Yurkanin.
A memorial service will be held at Carley Brook United Methodist Church Saturday January 31, 2009 at 1pm. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in East Dyberry Cemetery. John Joseph Broker
John Joseph Broker, 47 of Honesdale died unexpectedly January 22, 2009 at his home.
Born May 1, 1961 in Winter Haven, FL, he was the son of the former Leona Sequiera of
Winter Haven and the late Joseph Broker.
Also surviving is his daughter Cassie Broker of Honesdale; his sisters Marion Young of
Marble Falls, TX, Anne Bresset of Honesdale, and Catherine Benoit of Lakeland, FL;
brothers Donald MacDonald of Marble Falls, TX and Patrick Broker of Winter Haven, FL;
nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services will be held at the families convenience. Arrangements by

Anna Martin
Anna Martin, age 80, of Honesdale Pa. died Thursday Jan 22, 2009 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Martin who died in
1988.
Mrs. Martin was born Sept. 15,1928 in Ridgewood NY, daughter of the late Frank & Maria Garafolo Perry. She was a member of St. John's Roman Catholic Church, Honesdale. She was a wonderful mother and and along with our Father provided us with precious memories of a wonderful childhood. She enjoyed all of her grandchildren and was thrilled to become a great grandmother.
Surviving is her sister Alice Perry of Honesdale, with whom she resided and who lovingly
took care of her throughout her illness; her two daughters Alice Vitale and husband Phil
of Honesdale and Ginger Kasper and husband Tony of Beach Lake; grandchildren Philip
Vitale of Quakertown, PA, Thomas Vitale and wife Tracy of White Mills, Steven Vitale and
fiance Veronica of Honesdale, Cinde Boyle and husband Scott of FL, Sgt. Christopher
Kasper, USMC, who is serving a second tour in Iraq and Megan and Lauren Kasper of Beach
Lake; great grandchildren Justin and Conner Boyle and Steve Vitale; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter Stacey Lynn Kasper, brothers George, Robert, Sam, Edward, Philip, Michael, James and Joseph; a sister Marion.
As per her request, cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory in Archibald. A
Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Honesdale on Tuesday at
10 AM. The family will receive friends in church on Tuesday from 9 to service time.
Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Beach Lake Cemetery.

Lester C. Bates
Lester C. Bates, 79 of Honesdale, died Sunday, January 18, 2008 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, the former Doris Ann Davis. The couple married January 1, 1955.
Born Sept. 8, 1929 at home in Dyberry Twp., he was the son of the late Judson J. and Olive Brooks Bates. He was a US Army Veteran who served during the Korean Conflict. Before retiring, owned and operated his dairy farm. Lester enjoyed baseball and bowling, and played in different leagues in the area.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Honesdale for 44 years, the Pennsylvania Farmers Association and National Holstein Association.
Also surviving is his son Philip Bates of Honesdale; his daughter Susan Loring of Bethany; a brother Harold Bates of Honesdale; a sister Hilda Loomis of Buckley, WA; 3 grandchildren Becky, Tim and Jess; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sisters LaVerne Warfield, Delcye Compton and Alyce Grimm and brothers Norman, Roland and Richard Bates.
Funeral services will be celebrated on Thursday at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale at 11 AM by Rev. Mary Bryant. Interment will be in the spring. Friends may visit the funeral home on Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM and Thursday 10 to service time.

Faith Agnes (Balles) Rosler
Faith Agnes (Balles) Rosler, 86 of Honesdale, died Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank James Rosler who died Oct. 1, 1979. The couple married Nov. 17, 1943.
Born December 4, 1922 in Texas Township, she was the daughter and last surviving family member of the Charles and Agnes Bried Balles. A 1941 graduate of Honesdale Catholic High School, she later was a telephone operator from 1942 to 1961 and later worked for the former Sears Roebuck Co. in Honesdale as a sales clerk.
Faith was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale, its Altar and Rosary Society, and was active in it's Eucharistic Chapel.
She was also member of the Catholic daughters of Americas, Court St.
Martin. Faith volunteered at Ellen Memorial where she prayed the Rosary and played cards with its residents.
Faith will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Surviving are her sons Frank Michael Rosler of Honesdale, Thomas Rosler and wife Claire of Amsterdam, NY and Jeffrey Rosler and wife Karen of Beach Lake; a daughter Mary Lynn Minnich and husband Darrell of Honesdale; 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister Mary Lou Obermeier.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at St. Mary Magdalene Church at 10 AM. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may visit the Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St.

Charles L. Briggs
Charles L. Briggs, 60 of Honesdale, died on January 7, 2009. Chuck was born May 21, 1948 in Clinton, MA, son of the late Charles and Florence Scesny Briggs.
He was a self employed carpenter for nearly 40 years and recently was employed by Villa Roma Resort in Callicoon, NY. Chuck was a car enthusiast and was a former Hose #1 Fire Co. member.
Surviving is his son Wayne Briggs and wife Melissa, their children Mason, Gavin and Dyllon of Honesdale. His stepson Robert Highhouse and Donna Highhouse with whom he resided, their children Bobby and Megan of Honesdale. Also stepson Howard and wife Harriet Highhouse, their children Dustin, Sean and Ryan of Galilee.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Beach Lake Free Methodist Church on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 10 AM by Rev. Chris Freet, Associate Pastor. Interment will be private.
