Lydia E. Hill Mountain, 97, of North Versailles, died Friday, May 26, 2000, at Forbes Regional Health Center, Monroeville. She was born Oct. 6, 1902, in Export, a daughter of the late Odis and Letitia Cline Hill. She was a member of the VIP Travel Club, North Versailles. Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Sidney J. Mountain; and two brothers , Glen and Ray Hill. She is survived by two children, William C. Winstrand of Arcade, N.Y., and Janice M. Krisantz of East McKeesport; three grandchildren, Saundra Winstrand of Buffalo, N.Y., Susan Mediate of North Versailles and Dale Krisantz of Irwin; three great-grandchildren, Keith Ciesla of Buffalo, N.Y., Mark Mediate of North Versailles and Nick Krisantz of Irwin; a sister, Ada Nevling of Florida; also nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the FORGIE-SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 1032 Broadway, East McKeesport, Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Erma Jean Orlaskey, 88, formerly of Beechview, on Saturday, May 27, 2000. Wife of the late John Orlaskey. mother of Joan Pikulski. GLENN W. SHAMPLE
Glenn W. "Dutch" Shample, 61, of North Huntingdon, on Friday, May 26, 2000, at UPMC Presbyterian, Oakland. Born June 3, 1938, in McKeesport, a son of Mildred Kwasny Shample of McKeesport and the late Walter Shample. A 1960 graduate of the University of Clemson, he was a retired English teacher for the McKeesport Area School District with 36 years of service. He was also the proprietor of Dutch's Place in McKeesport and had also retired as an NBA, Eastern 8, and Atlantic 10 Basketball Referee. He was a member of the W.P.B.O.A. (Western Pa. Basketball Officials Association), the Steel Valley Chapter-Basketball and the Tri-State Officials Association. In addition to his mother , he is survived by his wife, Chloe J. Clark Shample; sons John W. Shample of White Oak and Walter S. Shample of Bayonne, N.J.; daughters Glenda Lang of Linwood, N.J., Susan Stipanovic of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Beth Ann Abdilla of Northfield, N.J.; stepdaughter Valerie A. Daerr of Hermosa Beach, Calif.; eight grandchildren; sisters Annette Karnash of McMurray and Gail Hunt of Wilmington, N.C.; also nieces and nephews. Bertha Shaw, 90, of Fairhope, Belle Vernon, died Saturday, May 27, 2000, in her home. She was born Dec. 26, 1909, in Monessen, a daughter of the late Slavimir and Bara Loncaric Novisel. She was the oldest member of Marion United Presbyterian Church in Fairhope, Belle Vernon, since 1948. She was a member of the Willing Workers Class and Missionary Society of the church and Belle Vernon and Fayette City Golden Agers. She was predeceased by her husband, George Shaw; a son, John M. Shaw; and two brothers , Joseph and Thomas Kostelac. Surviving are her children, William A. Novisel and wife, Gloria, of Monongahela, George B. Shaw and wife, Diane, of Grindstone, James W. "Sam" Shaw and wife, Mary "Twinkle," of Lanham, Md., Marion Tootsey of Germantown, Md., and Patricia "Patti" Maxwell and husband, Oakley, of Fairhope, Somerset County; brothers Matthew Kostelac and wife, Barbara, of Bedford and Nick Kostelac and wife, Sarah, of Monessen; sisters Mildred Lloyd of Fairhope, Belle Vernon, Sophia Bachinski of Monessen and Mary Paholsky of Belle Vernon; 12 grandchildren, Laura Lees, Beth Hogg, Diane Novisel, William Novisel Jr., Mark Tootsey, Barry Novisel, Frank Maxwell, John William Shaw, Jason Shaw, Scott Shaw, Ryan Shaw and Julie Shaw; and 15 great-grandchildren. Joseph F. Skoloda, 90, of Latrobe, died Friday, May 26, 2000, at home. He was born March 19, 1910, in Mutual, a son of the late Andrew and Mary Onofrey Skoloda. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Latrobe, and was retired from the Latrobe Die Casting Co. with 46 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers , Phillip, Edward and George Skoloda; and a sister, Helen Skoloda. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Christine A. Marnell Skoloda; two daughters , Joann Schmucker of Ligonier and Janet Richards and husband, John, of Latrobe; two sons , Francis Skoloda and wife, Joyce, of Latrobe, and Thomas Jay Skoloda and wife, Dorothy, of Latrobe; four brothers , Andrew, Emil and Michael Skoloda, all of Latrobe, and William Skoloda of Virginia; three sisters , Ann Klobuear of Cleveland, Ohio, Pauline Kemp of New Mexico and Delores Cribbs of Beatty; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. ELIZABETH ANN KROMKA SKUBEL
Elizabeth Ann Kromka Skubel, 75, of New Kensington, died Friday, May 26, 2000, in the emergency room of Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights. She was born July 8, 1924, in Bairdford, and had lived in New Kensington since 1946. She had previously resided in Ford Cliff. Prior to her marriage, Mrs. Skubel was a glass cutter at Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co. She was a member of St. Mary of Czestochowa Roman Catholic Church, New Kensington, the Christian Mothers of the church and Ezekiel Prayer Group 37, New Kensington; the New Kensington American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, Arnold. She enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening and crocheting. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Frank S. Skubel; a son, Frank J. Skubel of Mt. Lebanon; two daughters , Mrs. Paul A. (Marie A.) Achhammer of Murrysville and JoAnn R. Gallo of Arnold; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Mary Pisarcik Kromka; two brothers , Joseph and John Kromka; and four sisters , Mary and Sophie Kromka, Catherine Kissick and Rose Wojtowicz. Louise Z. Bowser Slates, 89, of Irwin, died Saturday, May 27, 2000, in Greensburg. She was born Sept. 5, 1910, in Pitcairn, a daughter of the late Archie D. and Bessie P. (Peirce) Bowser. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ, Irwin, the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 400 and the West Hempfield Senior Citizens Association. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Bowser. Survivors include her husband, Kenneth D. Slates Sr.; a son, Kenneth D. Slates Jr. and wife, Joyce, of Hollywood, Fla.; a daughter, Nancy Gosser and husband, David, of Greensburg; five sisters , Orpha Hilty of Pitcairn, Sue Kline and Helen Brooky of Trafford, Pearl Burkette of Turtle Creek and Jean Milby of Shelocta; four grandchildren, Kenneth D. THE REV. WESLEY EDWARD WEIMER
The Rev. Wesley Edward Weimer, 66, of Stahlstown RD1, went to be with his Lord Saturday, May 27, 2000. He was in the Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born June 28, 1933, in Melcroft, a son of the late George William and Olive Ruth Miller Weimer. He was an active member of the Greenwood Heights Church of God. At age 14 he began working in a coal mine, and later joined the U.S. Army, where he served with the 101st Airborne Division. He was formerly employed at the former Permali Plant, Mt. Pleasant, and also worked for the Seven Springs Mountain Resort in Champion. He was also a self-employed stone mason. In 1976 he went to the island of Haiti, where he helped build a mission and school, and he pastored the New Florence Church of God from 1977 to 1980. He is survived by two daughters , Robin L. Weimer of Ashland, Va., and Lori E. Weimer of Stahlstown; a granddaughter, Misti Reese; his brothers , Albert Weimer and his wife, Judy, of Masontown, Donald Weimer and his wife, Bertha, of East McKeesport and Ronald Weimer and his wife, Connie, of Danville, Va.; his sisters , Betty Rogers of Columbus, Ohio, Ruth Sarver and her husband, Donald, of Baden, Pauline Meyers and her husband, Warden, of White , Doris Buckley and her husband, Norman, of Bridgeville, Judy Hodge and her husband, John, of Gettysburg, Twila Abbuhl and her husband, Dick, of New Philadelphia, Ohio, Carol Robb and her husband, Marc, of Dover, Ohio, Mary Jacoby of New Philadelphia, Ohio, Shirley McCray and her husband, Rod, of Indian Trail, N.C., Charlotte Galbraith and her husband, Wes, of Dennison, Ohio, and Bonnie Hawkins and her husband, Don. SANDRA Q. ZARZECZNY
Sandra Q. Zarzeczny, 57, of Latrobe, died Friday, May 26, 2000, in IHS at Mountain View, Unity Township. She was born Dec. 31, 1942, in Latrobe, a daughter of the late Francis and Gladys (Nair) Quinn. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the former Pelican Inc. in New Derry, where she worked for 21 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Sara Frichtel. She is survived by two daughters , Lisa Quinn of New York City and Jamie Zarzeczny at home; two sisters , Kathryn "Kie" Darazio and husband, Robert, of Latrobe, and Frances Piper and husband, Samuel, of Youngstown, Pa.; a brother, William J. FRED ZECKER
Fred Zecker, 89, of Export, died Friday, May 26, 2000. He was born May 13, 1911, in Pristova, Slovenia, a son of Joseph and Emma Zecker. He was retired from Westinghouse Electric in 1972 as a mfg. engineer. He was a member of Export Borough Council for over 30 years, having served as president most of that time. He was the 1982 recipient of the Gateway Publications Man of the Year Award. He also served for many years as a Democratic Party Committeeman for Export Borough. He was past president of the S.N.J.P. Federation of Westmoreland County, a member of the Claridge Male Chorus, and a charter member of the Slovene Cultural Group of Western Pennsylvania . He was also a member of the S.N.P.J. Lodge #317 of Export. He was a member of the Italian American and Polish clubs of Export. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Susa Zecker, in 1989; and an infant daughter. Also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph, and sisters , Mary Jug, Rose Kenney, Elizabeth Roscher, Agnes Kenney, Emma Dallape, Sophie Gomez and Frances Rozina. Survived by two sons , Fred W. and wife, Donna, of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Eugene of New Kensington. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Peter, Deanna and Kathleen. Dorothy Elizabeth Boehm, 77, of Washington , Pa., formerly of Franklin Park, died Friday, May 26, 2000, in the Washington Hospital. She was born May 30, 1922, a daughter of Anthony Joseph and Mary Anna Sumner Long. She was a homemaker, a member of Friendship Community Church, and enjoyed poetry, art, and serving Jesus as well as her family. She had attended Langley High School. On Nov. 2, 1938, she married Richard Carl Boehm, who died on June 13, 1990. She is survived by two sons , Frank Boehm of Gibsonia and Thomas Boehm of Carnegie; and three daughters , Betty Grant of Cincinnati, Ohio, Margie Passios of Indianapolis, Ind., and Dorothy Placek of Washington . Also surviving are a sister, Anna Schultz-Aboosh of Silverton, Ore.; 26 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and three nephews. Charles E. "Chum" Brettell, 90, of Ligonier, died Saturday, May 27, 2000, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Nov. 22, 1909, in Pitcairn, the son of the late Earl Bennett and Marie Brettell Bennett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Ferguson; and a nephew, Joseph Lamberson. Prior to his retirement in 1970, he had been employed by the Dade County Health Department, Miami, Fla., for over 26 years. He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church, Latrobe, and of the Turtle Creek Lodge #612 F&AM. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Anna C. Loustenhizer Brettell. Edward Darbous Sr., 71, died Saturday, May 27, 2000, at home. He was born Dec. 20, 1928, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Samuel A. and Violet Shepler Darbous. He was the retired owner and operator of Darbous Custom Exteriors. He was also an avid boat builder. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Samuel Darbous; and a sister, Louise Johnston. He is survived by his wife, Patricia L.
