DONALD R. CAMPBELL
Donald R. Campbell, 84, of Sun City West, Ariz., formerly of Penn Township, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, in Arizona. He was born Dec. 25, 1915, in Lafayette, Colo., a son of the late Charles F.H. and Irene Sternberg Campbell. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as an electrical engineer for Westinghouse. He was a member of Fort Allen Antique Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Scott Richards. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara Bancroft Campbell; three sons , Charles E. Campbell and Michael D. Campbell, both of Seattle, Wash., and J. David Campbell of Pittsburgh; two daughters , Barbara Gale Richards of Waynesburg and Karen C. Doyle of Seattle, Wash.; seven grandchildren, John D. Campbell, Jeffrey A. Campbell, Kevin W. Campbell, Bethany Campbell, Wendy L. Hughes, Andrew M. Campbell, and Bonnie M. Campbell; and five great-grandchildren, Chris Hughes, Paul Hughes, Sarah Hughes, Sarah Campbell, and Alexandra Campbell. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 20, at 1 p.m. in the Denmark Manor United Church of Christ, Penn Township, with the Rev. Joseph W. Kiewra officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
RITA SCHMUCK CORNALI
Rita Schmuck Cornali, 77, of White Valley, formerly of Claridge, died Wednesday, May 17, 2000. Born Jan. 1, 1923, in Claridge, a daughter of the late F. Louis and Mary (Cima) Calgaro. Rita was a retired employee of Sterling Box in Jeannette. She was a member of St. Mary Church, Export, S.N.P.J. Lodge #7, Claridge, and the Bushy Run American Legion Auxiliary and the A.U.F. #149. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Schmuck, in 1969; and Arthur Cornali, in 1986. Also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Calgaro. Surviving are two sons , Jerald Schmuck of California and Edward Schmuck and wife, Lois, of Harrison City; a daughter, Rita Saulle and husband, Tony, of Greensburg; four stepchildren, Roberta Fix and husband, Carl, of Trafford, Bart Cornali and wife, Barb, of Latrobe, Bernard Cornali and wife, Mary Beth, of White Valley, and Robert Cornali and wife, Pam, of North Huntingdon; a brother, Louis Calgaro and wife, Rita, of Jeannette; a sister, Viola Kelly and husband, Jim, of Wexford; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Friends received at the EDWIN N. ODELLA GRACE DUVALL
Odella Grace "Mickey" Duvall, 80, of Harris Street in West Newton, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, in the Uniontown Hospital. She was born March 9, 1920, in Alicia, Fayette County, a daughter of Manila Mae Prosser and the late William J. Prosser. Mickey was a 33-year member of the First United Methodist Church of West Newton, where she served for a time as a Sunday school teacher and the reporter for the United Methodist Women's Organization until 1990. She attended the Brownsville Area School System, graduating in the Class of 1939. For the last seven years, she joined her husband, the Rev. John E. Duvall, as he served as the pastor at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Greensburg. Mickey is survived by her husband of 55 years, the Rev. John E. Duvall; sons , John E. Duvall Jr. and wife, Patricia, of Dayton, Tenn., and Todd A. Duvall and wife, Darlene, of North Huntingdon; daughters , Jill A. Stewart and husband, William, of East Millsboro, Pa., Deborah L. Landsperger and husband, Larry, of Valley, Ala., and Pamela L. Lowanse and husband, Kenneth Sr., of West Newton; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren, plus two more soon to arrive. She is also survived by her 101-year-old mother , Manila M. Prosser, formerly of Brownsville, currently residing in the Posis Nursing Home in Charleroi; two sisters , Mildred Teasdale of West Brownsville and Betty Gene Bernhagen of Brownsville; a brother, William J. Prosser Jr. of New Eagle; and several nieces and nephews. The family received friends Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the RICHARD F. DODSON MEMORIAL HOME, 213 Main St., West Newton, and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church, West Fourth and Euclid Avenue in Greensburg, where a memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday. Services will be conducted by the Rev. C. Russell Kerr and District Superintendent the Rev. Gerald Schmidt. Interment will follow in the West Newton Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Milinovich presiding. Memorials may be made either to the First United Methodist Church of West Newton or the Trinity United Methodist Church in Greensburg.
NANCY A. McINTYRE ELLIOTT
Nancy A. McIntyre Elliott, 70, of Hunker, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2000, in the Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. Nancy was the daughter of the late Walter Roy and Bessie Irene Baughman McIntyre. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Barr, and a brother, James McIntyre. She is survived by her husband, H. Robert Elliott, with whom she would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in September. Also survived by two daughters , Mrs. Judith and husband, James Ungvarsky, of South Greensburg and Joyce Elliott of Pittsburgh; two grandchildren, who meant everything to her, Jason and Julie Ungvarsky; a sister, Mrs. Henrietta and husband, Linc Fleck, of Gibsonia; and a brother, Kenneth and his wife, Jacqueline McIntyre, of Greensburg. Also survived by numerous brothers - and sisters -in-law, and nieces and nephews. Nancy is also survived by five people who, though not related, were like family to her, Jenny Brown and son, Jacob, Emily Boyle, Benjamin Kable and Joseph Smith. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church of Youngwood and an employee of Jim Just's Dry Cleaners in Youngwood and New Stanton. Friends will be received at the BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton at Green streets, Greensburg, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Additional visitation will be held Friday in St. Paul United Methodist Church, Youngwood, from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. the time of service in the church with the Rev. David S. Jack officiating. Interment will follow in the Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.
HELEN JANE GESS
Helen Jane Gess, 81, of New Alexandria RD2, died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, in the Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. She was born July 2, 1918, in Penn, a daughter of the late Joseph J. and Elvira Brown Morgan. She was a member of the Congruity Presbyterian Church, New Alexandria RD2. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence W. Gess, in 1960; by a son, Lawrence W. Gess Jr., in 1981; and by a number of brothers and sisters . She is survived by three children, Nina Jane Hullenbaugh and her husband, Russell, of New Alexandria RD2, Donna Lee Platko and her husband, Dennis, of Avonmore, and David R. Gess and his wife, Karen, of New Alexandria RD2; a daughter-in-law, Margaret T. Gess of Saltsburg; a brother, Donald Morgan of North Carolina; a sister, Faye Highberger and her husband, Howard, of Madison; a grandson and a granddaughter, David Robert Gess and his wife, Hope, of Export, and Shelly Lynn Cope of Greensburg; and two great-granddaughters, Caitlyn Gess and Kealy Cope. SYLVESTER J. GRAY
Sylvester J. Gray, 91, of Latrobe, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at Loyalhanna Care Center. He was born Aug. 10, 1908, in Boytington, Pa., a son of the late John C. and Maude Starr Gray. He was a retired inspector for Teledyne and was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn M. Desmonde Gray; a son, Arthur W. Bailey of Stahlstown; three daughters , Mrs. Robert (Esther) Seranko of Latrobe, Mrs. Paul (Rosella) Tripodi of Indiana, Pa., and Mrs. Donald (Evelyn) Meredith of Johnstown; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. PETER GROSS
Peter Gross, 76, of North Huntingdon, died Monday, May 15, 2000, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born July 12, 1923, in Wall, a son of the late Stephen and Adolfa Wierzbicki Gross. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Westinghouse Electric, East Pittsburgh, as a machinist. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Irwin, a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II, and the Parkinson's Support Group. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Gross. He is survived by his wife, Lenole Gongaware Gross; two daughters , Mrs. Thomas (Sandra Lynn) Savage of Monroe, N.Y., and Linda Susan Gross of Houston, Texas ; a brother, Stephen Gross of Clairton; three sisters , Nellie Roth of Monroeville, Mary Kalocky of Glassport and Stella Doraniuk of Trafford; and three grandchildren, Tyler John, Alexandra Lynn and Paige Nicole Savage. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Irwin, followed by interment in Irwin Union Cemetery. ROBERT J. HEDBERG
Robert J. Hedberg, 81, a lifelong resident of Southwest Greensburg, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, in the Integrated Health Services of Greater Pittsburgh in Greensburg. He was born July 29, 1918, in Southwest Greensburg, a son of the late Aaron and Elise Martinsen Hedberg. Prior to retirement, he had been employed by the former Walworth Valve Co. of South Greensburg. He was a member of Zion's Lutheran Church, Greensburg, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith M. Harshell Hedberg, on Jan. 30, 1993; and by a sister, Eleanor Sapper. He is survived by a brother, Harry and his wife, Mildred Hedberg, of Greensburg RD2; and five nieces, Audrey Otero of Lorain, Ohio, Shirley Glatstein of Germantown, Tenn., Donna Watters of Greensburg, Lois Richards of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Jean Ray of Irwin. KATHRYN HENDERSON
Kathryn Henderson, 90, of Bolivar, died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at Bethlen Home, Ligonier Township. She was born Nov. 2, 1909, in Fairfield Township, a daughter of the late Paul S. and Elsie Seigh Yeager. Prior to her retirement, she worked for the U.S. Post Office as a clerk in Bolivar for 28 years. She was a lifelong member of the First Church of Christ, Bolivar, where she was a Sunday school teacher for over 60 years. She was a member of the Laurel Valley Senior Citizens, a volunteer at Indian Haven Rest Home and coordinator for the Bolivar Well Baby Clinic for 18 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, A. Graeson " White y" Henderson, in 1954; a son, Wayne Elliot Henderson; sisters , Ruth Henderson and Virginia Moore; and brothers , Paul Sherman, William Robert, and Davis Lee Yeager. She is survived by a son, Ralph W. (and his wife, Barbara) of Greensburg; grandchildren, Allison, Kevin (and his wife, Kim) Henderson, Jodi (and husband, Tom) Schneider, and Alan Henderson; great-grandchildren, Nicole Denier, Ryan Henderson and Asia Henderson; two sisters , Alice "Ash" Yeager of Bolivar and Mildred "Mootz" Yeager (and friend, Don Mock) of Bolivar; a nephew, whom she helped raise, Cory (and wife, Cindy, and daughter, Courtney) Yeager; two nieces, Mrs. Ron (Lana Gale) Lear and Mrs. James (Sandy) Carter; a great-niece, Mrs. Wayne (Jill and daughters , Kelsy and Kassidy) Warfel; and several other nieces and nephews. MARY LOU AVAMPATO
Mary Lou Avampato, of Latrobe, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2000, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. Mrs. Avampato was the wife of the late John Avampato, owner of the Modern Beauty Salon, with whom she was a partner until at age 42 she returned to school and became a geriatric nurse. This was the culmination of a lifelong dream to serve in the medical profession. Mrs. Avampato had two daughters , the late Joanne Rednock of Mt. Lebanon, and Yvonne Avampato, living in Manhattan, N.Y. She is also survived by her sisters , Providence Rodgers, Carrie Capozzi, Betty Todaro; brother, Joseph Petrantoni; and son-in-law, Lee J. Rednock, a retired educator. Bonnie L. (Forbes) Blake, 61, of North Irwin, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at McKeesport. She was born Sept. 25, 1938, in McKeesport, a daughter of Grace (O'Bryon) Forbes Burchell and stepfather, Eugene Burchell, of North Huntingdon, and the late Cletus John Forbes. She was a member of Norwin Christian Alliance Church and a former member of North Irwin Women's Club. She is survived by her husband, James P. Blake; two sons , David Blake and wife, Karen, of Penn Township and James Blake and wife, Amy, of Larimer, Pa.; a stepdaughter, Vickie Ethier of Denver, Colo.; a brother, Bill Forbes of Ruffsdale; and four grandchildren, Jennifer Ethier, Jay Ethier, James Tomko, and James Perry Blake III.
