PATRICK J. HAVRANEK

Patrick J. Havranek, 69, of Youngwood, died Monday, May 15, 2000, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born March 18, 1931, in Lincoln Heights, Pa., a son of the late Joseph and Gladys Bussard Havranek. He was employed by WABCO of Wilmerding. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia (Young) Havranek; and a sister, Lorretta Zitkovich. He is survived by five children, Deborah L. Havranek of Youngwood, James P. Havranek of Youngwood, Valerie Thornton of South Greensburg, Bruce A. Havranek of Youngwood, and David J. and wife, Kim Havranek, of Greensburg; three sisters , Mrs. Charles (Elsie) Miller of Jeannette, Nora Dailey of Arona and Esther Ritenour of Jeannette; and a brother, Richard Havranek of Arona. Friends will be received at the C. RICHARD McCAULEY FUNERAL HOME INC., Youngwood, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Dale W. Roddy officiating. Interment Westmoreland Memorial County Park, Greensburg.

LILLIAN JACHIMOWICZ

Lillian Jachimowicz, 97, of Greensburg, died Monday, May 15, 2000, in the St. Anne Home, Greensburg. She was born in Larksville, a daughter of the late Paul and Pauline Chicallo. Mrs. Jachimowicz was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Larksville. Her husband, Benjamin S. Jachimowicz, preceded her in death. Survivors include two stepsons, Julian Jachimowicz of Atlanta, Ga., and Thomas Jachimowicz of Greensburg; a stepdaughter, Claire Heister of Oxford, Md.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three sisters , Ann Chicallo of Larksville, Eleanor of Bridgeport, Conn., and Betty of Long Island, N.Y. Friends will be received Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the A.J. KOPICKI FUNERAL HOME INC., 263 Zerbey Ave., Kingston, Pa., where a funeral will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Dallas, Pa. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Anne Home, 685 Angela Drive, Greensburg, PA 15601.

CONSTANCE MAZZA

Constance Mazza, of Mt. Lebanon, unexpectedly on Monday, May 15, 2000. Wife of the late Frank Mazza. mother of Rosemarie, Angela and the late Frank Wallace Mazza. Sister of Pat Guzzo of Middletown, Melvin Guzzo and Theresa DeAngelis, both of Ocala, Fla., Ernest J. Mazza of Bethel Park and the late John Guzzo. Niece of Samuel Oliver of Washington , Pa., and the late Louis and John Oliver. Also survived by nieces and nephews. Friends may call Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the LAUGHLIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL INC., 222 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Bernard Church. Mrs. Mazza was a member of ISDA Montecassino Lodge and the Catholic daughters , and formerly volunteered at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. If desired, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 10 Duff Road, Suite 304, Pittsburgh, PA 15235.

HARLAN C. MEDSGER

Harlan C. Medsger, 93, of Scottdale, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at Harmon House Convalescent Center, Mt. Pleasant. He was born Feb. 23, 1907, in Scottdale, a son of the late Albert O. and Maud Hayden Medsger. Mr. Medsger attended Valparaiso University and was an accountant for many years in Long Island, N.Y. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church of Scottdale and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Loma Hansen Medsger; and six brothers , Vernon, Ralph, Herbert, Alton, Carroll and William. Survived by the following nieces and nephews, Lawrence Medsger of Uniontown, Herbert Medsger Jr. of Citrus Heights, Calif., Thomas Medsger of Los Angeles, Calif., Ralph Medsger of Santa Rosa, Calif., Carol Green of Chevy Chase, Md., Sylvia Banks of Seven Hills, Ohio, Mary Lalos of Darnestown, Md., and Melanie Barker of Brookhaven, N.Y. Friends will be received Friday from noon to 2 p.m. at MURPHY-CARUSO MEMORIAL HOME, 303 Pittsburgh St., Scottdale, at which time services will be held at 2 p.m. Interment Scottdale Cemetery.

SONJA L. SCHEITLER

Sonja L. Scheitler, 43, of Latrobe, died Monday, May 15, 2000, at Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville. She was born July 3, 1956, in Ludwigshafen, Germany, a daughter of Irmgard T. (Johanna) Gordos and the late Arpad J. Gordos Jr. She was a member of the Y-ME Support Group in Greensburg and a cancer support group at Latrobe Area Hospital. She was also a member of the Laurel Highlands Searchers. In addition to her mother , she is survived by her companion, Edward L. Quick; her son, Steven T. Scheitler at home; and her daughter, Amanda L. Scheitler of Chicago, Ill. Friends will be received at the GAUT-BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., Pleasant Unity, Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon, at which time funeral services will be held. Private interment will follow in Unity Cemetery, Unity Township.

MARY MARGARET SEBOLD

Mary Margaret Sebold, 71, of Latrobe, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, in Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born Sept. 14, 1928, in Latrobe, a daughter of the late Andrew R. and Mary E. Goldino Vorel. She was retired from Latrobe Area Hospital. She was a member of the First Church of God, Latrobe, and the New Church of Hope, Ligonier. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, James Cable; two brothers , Thomas and Charles Vorel; and a sister, Sarah Vorel. Survivors include her husband, Paul V. Sebold; two sons , Larry Herrod and Thomas Herrod Jr. and his wife, Debbie, all of Latrobe; two daughters , Darlene Hensel and her fiance, Rick Robinson, of Latrobe and Brenda Downey and her husband, Edward, of New Derry; three brothers , George Vorel of Georgia, Robert Vorel of Butler and Ron Vorel of Latrobe. Also survived by 10 grandchildren, Tina, Stacey, Dannielle, Joshua, Derek, Susan, Jeffrey, Laura, Jennifer and Doug; and four great-grandchildren. Friends will be received Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe, where services will be held Thursday at noon with the Rev. Jack Street officiating. Interment Bethel Cemetery, Cook Township.

STANLEY W. SMALES

Stanley W. Smales, 70, of West Deer Township, Gibsonia, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, in UPMC Passavant, McCandless. He was born Sept. 21, 1929, in Bairdford, the son of the late Stanley and Lucy (Dembrosky) Smales. Mr. Smales was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict and a member of the VFW, Mars. Beloved husband for 16 years of Audrey (Pike) Smales. Father of Sherril Crocker of Las Vegas, Nev., Daniel Crocker of Tarentum, Robert Crocker of Jamestown, N.Y., Mark Crocker of Ashville, N.Y., Tammy Crocker of North Carolina and Randy Crocker of Valencia. Also survived by 11 grandchildren. Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the SCHELLHAAS FUNERAL HOME LTD., 5864 Heckert Road, Bakerstown, where service will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Tim Sweet of the First Presbyterian Church of Bakerstown officiating. Interment in Deer Creek Cemetery, Cheswick.

SAMUEL J. TOBIAS

Samuel J. Tobias, 47, of Ruidoso, N.M., formerly of McKeesport, died Monday, May 15, 2000, as a result of a plane crash while fighting forest fires in New Mexico. Born June 27, 1952, in Alameda, Calif., the son of Ruth Gibb Tobias of McKeesport and the late Norman J. Tobias. He was a forest service ranger for the U.S. government. He was a 1970 graduate of Norwin High School and a 1974 graduate of Penn State University. In addition to his mother , he is survived by his wife, Jacqueline "Jackie" Abels Tobias; a brother, James N. Tobias of North Huntingdon; a sister, Terri Brown of Elderton, Pa.; uncle of Chris, Jenny and Tim Brown, all of Elderton. Also survived by aunts, uncles and cousins. Services will be held in Ruidoso, N.M., with LaGRONE FUNERAL HOME in charge of arrangements. A memorial service will be held locally at a later date.

KENNETH S. UPTEGRAFF

Kenneth S. Uptegraff, of Williams Bay, Wis., died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn, Wis. He was born Nov. 5, 1909, in West View, to Robert Charles and Emily Mary (nee Anderson) Uptegraff. On July 29, 1940, he married F. Rose Harry in Maryland. Educated at Bellevue High School, he was considered a fine scholastic athlete and graduated in 1929. He was involved in sports in the Pittsburgh area as both a player and a coach for many years. He also coached the Bellevue team, with Tommy Thompson as manager in the North Side Twilight League. Employed in finance and banking, he retired from Equibank in 1974. He was very active in the Free and Accepted Masons, Avalon Lodge #657. In 1982, he and his wife retired to Pharr, Texas , until 1998, when they moved to Williams Bay, Wis. Survivors include a daughter, Betty (Paul) DelPalazzo of McHenry, Ill.; two grandchildren, Sonda Rose DelPalazzo of McHenry, Ill., and Kenneth E. (Corrine) DelPalazzo of Pittsburgh; and three great-grandchildren, Kenneth Paul, Maria Gabrielle and Anthony Daniel DelPalazzo. He was preceded in death by his wife on Oct. 4, 1998; a brother, Albert Charles DelPalazzo; and his parents. The funeral was private for the family. Memorials would be appreciated by the family to the Suburban General Health Foundation, Suburban General Hospital, 100 S. Jackson Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15202. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the GEORGE R. JUSTEN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 3519 W. Elm St., McHenry, Ill.

MICHAEL V. (WHEATON) WOJTON,

Michael V. (Wheaton) Wojton, 87, of Baldock Health Care Centre, North Huntingdon, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000. He was born Jan. 12, 1913, in McKeesport, a son of the late John and Victoria Wojton. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a shearman by U.S. Steel, National Tube Works. He was a member of St. Agnes Church, North Huntington. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Stella Wojton, in 1986; a brother, Bernard Wheaton; and two sisters , Mary Onderko and Helen Pollock. He is survived by two daughters , Mrs. Andrew (Patricia) Zurovcik and Mrs. Randy (Norma) Nestor; a brother, Joseph Wojton; two sisters , Lottie Shaffer and Frances Dawson; and two grandchildren. Arrangements will be announced by the SHIRLEY-KUKICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Clay Pike, Circleville, North Huntingdon.

CHARLOTTE L. ZELLO

Charlotte L. Zello, loving wife, mother , and grandmother, 69, of Greensburg, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born June 15, 1930, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late Turney A. and Ruth C. Kessler Garland. Prior to retirement, she had been a lunch mother for the Greensburg Salem School District, and later had been employed at the Washington Beauty Supply Co., Greensburg. She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral of Greensburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Duffus. She is survived by her husband, James J. Zello; a son, James J. Jr. and his wife, Diane Zello, of Westmoreland City; a daughter, Linda and her husband, Douglas Darazio, of Greensburg; four grandchildren, Kayleigh, Christopher and Samantha Zello and Vincent Darazio; a sister, Ruth Roman of Greensburg; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton at Green streets, Greensburg, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home Friday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg. Interment will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township.

BARRY J. BAILLEY

Barry J. Bailley, 33, of North Huntingdon, died Monday, May 15, 2000. He was born Dec. 17, 1966, in Jeannette, a son of Shirley Andrewson Bailley and the late Benjamin Bailley. He was the owner of Barry Bailley Contracting, North Huntingdon. He was a graduate of Norwin High School, class of 1984. In addition to his mother , he is survived by three brothers , Robert V. Bailley of North Huntingdon, and William Bailley and Benjamin Bailley, both of Las Vegas, Nev.; a sister, Betsy Kovac and her husband, Chris, of Irwin; four nieces; three nephews; aunts, uncles, and cousins. Friends were received at the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. R. Bruce Maxwell officiating. Interment will follow in Irwin Union Cemetery.

JOSEPH BLATNEY

Joseph Blatney, 89, of Rillton, died Sunday, May 14, 2000, at the Integrated Health Services of Greater Pittsburgh, Greensburg facility. He was born Feb. 8, 1911, in Cambria, Wyo., a son of the late Frank and Matilda "Tillie" Copulet Blatney. Mr. Blatney was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army with the 116th Engineer Combat Battalion as a combat engineer. Prior to retirement, Mr. Blatney was employed as a coal miner with 48 years of service at the Pittsburgh Consolidated Coal Co., Hutchinson Mine. He was a member of St. Edward Roman Catholic Church, Herminie, the Rillton VFW Post 8518, where he served as a trustee for 45 years, and the Italian Miners Club, Hahntown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Louise "Lucy" (Kosik) Blatney, in November 1992; a daughter, Patrica Blatney; two brothers , John and Henry Blatney; and two sisters , Annie Evans and Tillie Bazzana. Mr. Blatney "Joe" is survived by four sons , Joseph and his wife, Isabelle, of Irwin, Robert and his wife, Elizabeth, of Greensburg, Frank and his wife, Evie, of Fullerton, Calif., and Raymond and his wife, Peggy, of Rillton; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank Blatney of Greensburg; a sister, Mary Jaskolski of Romulus, Mich.; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Herminie, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Edward R.C. Church, Herminie, with Father Lawrence L. Manchas as celebrant. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park. A St. Edward parish wake service will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. followed by a parish rosary, both in the funeral home.

RUTH O. (FOSTER) GILDROY

Ruth O. (Foster) Gildroy, 86, of Mt. Pleasant Road, died Monday, May 15, 2000, at home. She was born April 8, 1914, in Dickerson Run, Pa., a daughter of the late George and Luella Tharp Foster. Prior to her retirement, she was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Gildroy; and four brothers , Harry, Don, Thomas, and Charles Foster. She is survived by her son, John R. Gildroy of Mt. Pleasant Road; daughters , Suzi Marie Nicola of Mt. Pleasant and Ruth I. Zwierzelewski of Scottdale; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Friends were received in the FRANK R. ZIMMERMAN FUNERAL HOME INC., 627 Smithfield St., Mt. Pleasant, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held in the funeral home Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. George Rath officiating. Interment will follow in the Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville.
