CHARLES A. BALL

Charles A. Ball, 83, of Irwin, died Thursday, May 4, 2000, at his home. He was born Nov. 24, 1916, in Worcester, Mass., the son of the late Alva and Mary Sweeney Ball. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a foreman by Crude Oil Evaluation Lab in Harmarville. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Irwin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy A. Ball. He is survived by his wife, Edith E. Ball; two sons , Charles Ball Jr. of Fairport, N.Y., and David Ball of Campbell, Calif.; and grandchildren. Friends will be received at the SHIRLEY-KUKICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Clay Pike, Circleville, North Huntingdon, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held Monday at a time to be announced in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Robert Hill officiating. Interment will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park.

ELIZABETH BITHEL

Elizabeth "Betty" Bithel, 85, of North Huntingdon, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at her home. She was born Jan. 25, 1915, in North Braddock, a daughter of the late Martin and Elizabeth Wilt Fischer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell E. Bithel. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Lee Bithel of North Huntingdon. Friends will be received at the SHIRLEY-KUKICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Clay Pike, Circleville, North Huntingdon, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home Saturday at 10 a.m. with Pastor Mark Fischer officiating.

WALTER J. HECKEL

Walter J. Heckel, 95, formerly of Pittsburgh, died Thursday, May 4, 2000, in State College, Pa. He was employed by Gulf Oil Corporation as an accountant for 44 years, retiring in 1965. Survived by a daughter, Jean H. Doyle; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Private graveside services will be held at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery.

HARRIET LOWTHER HUFF

Harriet Lowther Huff, 100, of Scottsdale, Ariz., died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at her residence. She was born Feb. 27, 1900, in Philadelphia, a daughter of the late John Lloyd and Frances Bloom Lowther. She was preceded in death, besides her parents, by her husband William Huff Jr. Surviving are her daughter, Harriet H. Irish of Boulder City, Nev.; and her grandson, William Huff Cookshoot of Chicago, Ill. Services will be held at the St. Clair Cemetery Chapel at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Elizabeth Rodewald, deacon of the Fox Chapel Episcopal Church, officiating. Entombment will follow in the family mausoleum in St. Clair Cemetery. The KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME of Greensburg in charge of the arrangements.

CECILIA K. KURLOCK

Cecilia K. Kurlock, 77, of Greensburg, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at her home. She was born March 1, 1923, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late John and Rose Leonard Sabers. Prior to retirement, she had been a cook at the former George's Pantry, and was a member of the Church of St. Paul, Greensburg. She was the wife of the late Thomas A. Kurlock. Survived by two daughters , Rosemary B. Agnew and Cheryl E. Barron, both of Greensburg; two grandchildren, Michael J. Agnew and Christine A. Sanders, both of Greensburg; two great-granddaughters, Melody and Mallory Sanders; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton at Green streets, Greensburg, Friday from 11 a.m. until noon, the time of a blessing service in the funeral home with the Rev. Leonard W. Stoviak officiating. Interment will follow in the Greensburg Catholic Cemetery, Hempfield Township. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, Mass offerings be made in Cecilia's name.

THOMAS A. KURLOCK

Thomas A. Kurlock, 79, of Greensburg, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at his home. He was born Sept. 7, 1920, in Bovard, a son of the late Michael and Mary Worbuck Kuriluk. Prior to retirement, he had been employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad. He was a member of the Church of St. Paul, Greensburg, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers , Carl and Frank. He was the husband of the late Cecilia K. Sabers Kurlock. He is survived by two daughters , Rosemary B. Agnew and Cheryl E. Barron, both of Greensburg; two grandchildren, Michael J. Agnew and Christine A. Sanders, both of Greensburg; two great-granddaughters, Melody and Mallory Sanders; and several nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation. BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., Greensburg, in charge of arrangements.

RICHARD JAMES MARDIS

Richard James Mardis, 77, formerly of Murrysville, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, in Columbus, Ohio. He was born April 13, 1923, in New Kensington, a son of the late Harry and Marion Heuple Mardis. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a B-24 pilot in the Army Air Corps, followed by a 28-year career as an airline captain for both Capital and United Airlines. He was a member of St. Barbara Catholic Church, Harrison City. He was involved in numerous activities, including council president, lecturing and ushering. He also volunteered for Murrysville Meals on Wheels. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanore Coughlin Mardis, in 1998. He is survived by four daughters , Lauren E. Mardis of Westerville, Ohio, Nancy Jean Mardis of Morristown, N.J., Wendy Sue Molander of Baltimore, Md., and Kathleen M. Napoli of Virginia Beach, Va.; two sons , Chip Mardis of Westerville, Ohio, and Christopher Scott Mardis of Lebanon, Ill.; and eight grandchildren, Jeffrey and Kristine Napoli, Elly Mardis, Lauren Molander, and R.J., Amy, Spencer and Rebecca Mardis. Visitation Saturday 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JOHN T. HART FUNERAL HOME, Murrysville. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Barbara Church, Harrison City. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Pittsburgh. A vigil service will be held Sunday at 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

JOSEPHINE R. MINNON

Josephine R. Minnon, 88, of Grapeville, died Thursday, May 4, 2000, in the Harmon House Convalescent Center, Mt. Pleasant. She was born March 26, 1912, in Madison, a daughter of the late Basile and Lucretia Ferrante Realino. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the Lowry Flooring Company of Jeannette. She was a member of the Ascension Church of Jeannette and the church's Rosary Altar Society. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers , Anthony, Joseph, Michael and John Realino; and two sisters , Mary DiLorenzo and Gladys Zorzi. She is survived by her husband, Joseph T. Minnon; two daughters , Dolores Hixson and her husband, Terry, of Hunker and Patricia Giaquinto of New Hampshire; four grandchildren, Michael Giaquinto, Marisa Fusco and her husband, Frank, and Phylicia and Nathan Hixson; two great-grandsons, Matthew and Peter Joseph Giaquinto; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the JOHN V. GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 228 N. Second St., Jeannette, beginning Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the Ascension Church. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Hempfield Township. The Ascension Rosary Altar Society will pray the rosary Friday at 3:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

GLADYS L. (JOHNSON) SCHMUCKER

Gladys L. (Johnson) Schmucker, 74, of Latrobe RD1 (Lycippus), died Wednesday, May 3, 2000. She was born May 2, 1926, in Sioux City, Iowa, a daughter of the late William and Hazel Johnson. She was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church, Chestnut Ridge. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard C. Schmucker, in 1994. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Stevens and husband, William, of Chapel Hill, N.C.; her son, Barry R. Schmucker and wife, Holly, of Latrobe RD1; three grandchildren, Jennifer Bosco of Greensburg and Rachel and Zachary Schmucker of Youngstown; a brother, Duane "Dick" Johnson of Sioux City, Iowa; two sisters , Mrs. Donald (Thelma) Taute of Omaha, Neb., and Mrs. Margaret "Marge" Scholzen of Prior Lake, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the GAUT-BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., Pleasant Unity, Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., where a blessing service will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. with the Rev. Simon J. Toth, O.S.B., officiating. Private interment will follow in Lycippus Community Cemetery, Unity Township. Family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Laurel Mountains Chapter, 1011 Old Salem Road, Greensburg, PA 15601.

HAROLD E. STEVICK

Harold E. "Hal" Stevick, 89, of Jeannette, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, in Briarcliff Pavilion, North Huntingdon. He was born Dec. 9, 1910, in Monongahela, a son of the late Thomas Earl and Ruth Catherine Harr Stevick. Prior to retirement, he was employed by the Brockway Glass Co. and numerous glass houses in the area. He was also an associate of Mason-Gelder Funeral Home for 25 years. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Jeannette, a charter member of the F.O.E. #844 of Jeannette, and the Penn Rod and Gun Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret J. Stevick; and a grandson, Christopher A. Stevick. He is survived by a son, Hal "Sonny" Stevick and his wife, Kay, of Pensacola, Fla.; a daughter, Dorothy O'Shea of Hecla; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his loving companion, Zillah Kealey of Jeannette; a sister, Dorothy McCall of Clairton; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received in the MASON-GELDER FUNERAL HOME INC., 201 N. First St., Jeannette, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Theodore I. Bessey officiating. Interment will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.

ESTHER P. BERGER WOLCOTT

Esther P. Berger Wolcott, 79, of Greensburg, died Thursday, May 4, 2000, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born May 2, 1921, in New Alexandria, a daughter of the late Paul and Lillian Shefler Berger. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Eugene Berger; and a sister, Alma Mae Harbridge. She is survived by a daughter, Carol Wiehl of Grenada, Calif.; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three brothers , Paul Berger Jr. and his wife, Caroline, of Latrobe, Arthur Berger and his wife, Jean, of Washington , Pa., and John Berger of New Alexandria; three sisters , Alice Murphy of Greensburg, Lillian Berger of New Alexandria and Julia Yingst and her husband, Robert, of New Alexandria; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the BARNHART FUNERAL HOME, 505 E. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m., at which time services will be held. Interment will follow in the Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.

WAYNE D. BOSSART

Wayne D. Bossart, 63, of Pleasant Unity, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born Dec. 27, 1936, in Pleasant Unity, a son of the late Arch H. and Catherine C. (Myers) Bossart. Prior to retirement, he worked for Operating Engineers Local 66 of Pittsburgh. He was a member of the Pleasant Unity United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers , Richard J., Carl V. and Jerry Bossart. He is survived by his wife, Betty (Miller) Bossart; two sons , Wayne A. Bossart and his friend, Kathy, and Mark E. Bossart and wife, Lorraine, all of Pleasant Unity; six grandchildren, Jeremey, Josh, Jeff, Katie, Christopher and Brian; his sister, Mrs. Ray (Isabelle) McGinnis of Youngwood; two brothers , Archie N. and wife, Elsie, of Pleasant Unity and Samuel S. and wife, Fran Bossart, of Greensburg RD2; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends received at the GAUT-BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., Pleasant Unity, Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Pleasant Unity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clark R. Kerr officiating. Interment will follow in Unity Cemetery, Unity Township.

DAVIS CARLISLE BURROUGHS JR.

Davis Carlisle Burroughs Jr., 80, of Squirrel Hill, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000. Beloved husband of Margaret Donahoe Burroughs; Father of Davis C. Burroughs III of Fairfield, Conn., Jean B. Jordan of Melrose, Mass., Peter W. Burroughs of Pittsburgh, Carlin W. Fravel of Atlanta, Ga., and Clarke Weidlein of Atlanta, Ga.; brother of Richard S. Burroughs of Allentown, Pa., Nancy B. Requardt of Boca Grande, Fla., and Emily McCoy of Wilmington, Del.; also survived by six grandchildren. Friends may call Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at H. SAMSON INC., 537 Neville St. (Oakland Civic Center). Funeral service Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in Calvary Episcopal Church, 315 Shady Ave. Interment will be private in Easton, Md. Memorial contributions may be made to the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michael's, Md.

FRANCES R. CIOCCA

Frances R. Ciocca, 88, formerly of Grapeville, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, in the Beverly Healthcare Center in Murrysville. She was born June 21, 1911, in Italy, a daughter of the late John and Maria Felice Basile. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the former National Plastics Corp. of Jeannette, and was a member of the Ascension Church of Jeannette. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Alesandro Ciocca, in 1955; two sons , John and Alex Ciocca; two brothers , Nick and Frank Basile; and three sisters , Mary Peperato, Angeline Petrill and Ann Salvatore. She is survived by a sister, Camile Basile of Jeannette; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the JOHN V. GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 228 N. Second St., Jeannette, beginning Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Monsignor Nicholas A. Mitolo officiating. Entombment will follow in the Twin Valley Memorial Park Mausoleum.
