ROBERT L. CODDINGTON

Robert L. Coddington, 71, of Ruffsdale, died Friday, April 28, 2000, at the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born May 30, 1928, in Friendsville, Md., a son of the late Levette Coddington and Elva Gordon Coddington Worrell. He was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Mt. Pleasant, where he was involved with the adult fellowship and the dartball league. He was a student of the former Youngwood and also East Huntingdon high schools. He was a member of the Ridge Runners Trailer Club, the All Stars Bowling League at Hillview Lanes, the Robertshaw Retirees Club and the Mt. Pleasant Senior Citizens. Robert was an avid gardener, fisherman, a pool and billiards player, constructed crafts, and was noted for his homemade wine. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a machinist by Robertshaw Controls of New Stanton. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy J. McCloy Coddington; three daughters , Sharon Wilkins and husband, David, of Jeannette, Marla Vinkler of Ruffsdale and Joyce Ferrarini and husband, Felix, of Greensburg; eight grandchildren, Terri Ackerman, John Ackerman and Shawna, Cindy and Mark Marshall, Dave Vinkler and Sharon, Stacey Vinkler, Jay Ferrarini, Jennifer Ferrarini and Justin Ferrarini; six great-grandchildren, Billy Dull, Andy Dull, Johnathan Ackerman, Nathaniel Vinkler, Ashley Esch and Tyler Vinkler; a sister, Cheryl Hibbard and husband, James, of Uniontown; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his stepfather, John Worrell; his stepmother, Hazel Coddington; and a granddaughter, Lisa Wilkins. Friends received in the EUGENE G. SALOOM FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Mt. Pleasant, Sunday from 12 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A prayer service will be held in the funeral home at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, followed by his funeral service at 1 p.m. in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with the Rev. Sherry Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the Green Ridge Memorial Cemetery.

EDWIN MERLE CROSBY

Edwin Merle Crosby, 74, of Greensburg RD5, died Saturday, April 29, 2000, in UPMC Presbyterian, Oakland. He was born Oct. 19, 1925, in Greensburg RD5 (Unity Township), a son of the late Edwin P. and Zola Johnson Crosby. He was a member of the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Trauger. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a heavy equipment operator by Latimer Bros. of New Alexandria. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of the AMVETS Post 94, American Legion Post 981, VFW Post 6743, a social life member of the Dryridge Volunteer Fire Department and a life member of the South Greensburg Hunt Club. He is survived by his wife, Margaret "Peggy" Davis Crosby; the following daughters : Mrs. Richard (Candace) Weddle of Colorado Springs, Colo., Pamela Myers and Kathleen King, both of Dayton, Ohio, and Mrs. Lewis (Amy) Butler of Scottsville, Va.; the following stepchildren: Robert Blystone of Scottsville, Va., Cheryl Hayton of Richmond, Va., and Fred Blystone of Palmdale, Calif.; six grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, Eugene Crosby and his wife, Jean, of Greensburg RD8; and a sister, Mrs. William (Myrna) Miller of Greensburg RD14. Friends will be received at the JAY A. HOFFER FUNERAL HOME, Norvelt, Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home Tuesday at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Paul Cemetery, Trauger. military services will be accorded by the AMVETS Post 94 and the Armbrust Veterans. WILLIAM O. DENIKER

William O. Deniker, 78, of Youngwood, formerly of Greensburg, died Saturday, April 29, 2000, at his home. He was born May 21, 1921, in Bovard, a son of the late Oscar and Jane Dougal Deniker. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed by the former Gulf and Thomas Oil companies. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Greensburg and Westmoreland Lodge No. 518 F&AM. Bill was a 50-year member of Greensburg Hose Co. No. 2 and was a member of the Pennsylvania State Firemen's Association. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, William O. Deniker Jr.; and a brother, Richard Deniker. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Wolford Deniker; a daughter, Linda Kay Deniker of Youngwood; a sister-in-law, Betty Hartman Deniker of Latrobe; two nephews; and a grandnephew. Friends received at the BARNHART FUNERAL HOME, 505 E. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held in the funeral home Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Robert C. Wilson and the Rev. Sheldon Moore co-officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Clair Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorials may be placed with the Westmoreland Hospice, 532 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg. Members of the Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department will meet at the funeral home Monday at 7:30 p.m. to pay their respects.

MARY E. DETAR

Mary E. Detar, 86, of Greensburg, died Saturday, April 29, 2000, in IHS of Greater Pittsburgh at Greensburg. Born March 22, 1914, in Crabtree, she was a daughter of the late Mary and George Long Sr. She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Church. She was also a former member of the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, where she was active in many organizations. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Detar, in 1980; a sister, Theresa Prior; and four brothers , George, Huey, Jim and Joe. She is survived by three sons , Dr. Richard E. Detar of Irwin and his children, Jeffrey Detar and wife, Donna, of Irwin and their children, Jessica, Katie and Jacob, Gregory Detar of Connellsville, and Douglas Detar and wife, Lisa, of Mt. Pleasant and their children, Angela and Jenna; Robert Detar and wife, Jean, of California and their children, Shelly and Debbie; and Gary P. Detar of Indiana and his children, Kimberly, Wendy, Megan and stepdaughter, Jody; a brother, Steve Long and wife, Dorothy, of Maryland; and several nieces and nephews. HELEN FINGERHUT

Helen Fingerhut, 86, of West Mifflin, died Friday, April 28, 2000. She was born Oct. 1, 1913, in Ramsey, Ohio, the daughter of the late Charles and Lydia Joseph Fodor. She was a member of St. John of the Cross Lutheran Church, Dravosburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles William Fingerhut, in 1971. She is survived by a son, Ronald Charles Fingerhut and his wife, Patricia, of Chesterson, Ind.; a daughter, Pamela Hill and her husband, Howard, of Murrysville; four grandchildren, Brian and Tricia Fingerhut, Sherry Lynn Aiken and Alaina Renee Hill; a great-granddaughter, Madelyn Elizabeth Aiken; and a brother, Edward Fodor of Denver, Colo. Visitation Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JOHN T. HART FUNERAL HOME, Murrysville. A service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. John of the Cross Lutheran Church, 207 Fifth St., Dravosburg, with Pastor Philip S. Ramstad officiating. Interment will follow in Jefferson Memorial Park, Pleasant Hills.

GRACE I. HILL

Grace I. Hill, 90, of Plum Borough, died Saturday, April 29, 2000, in Beverly Manor, Monroeville. She was born Jan. 22, 1910, in Turtle Creek, a daughter of Jacob and Wilda Cunningham Straley. She was a member of the Holiday Park United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank K. Hill, in 1982. She is survived by two daughters , Wilda G. Curtis of Delmont and Mary I. Remaley and her husband, Donald, of Louisville, Ky.; two sons , Frank K. Hill and his wife, May, of Murrysville and Kevin J. Hill of Raleigh, N.C.; a sister, Alda Minnis of Phoenix, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Visitation Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JOHN T. HART FUNERAL HOME, Murrysville. A service will be held in the funeral home Tuesday at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.

JAMES W. HOPKINS

James W. Hopkins, age 82, of Mt. Lebanon, on Saturday, April 29, 2000. Beloved husband of the late Clare V. Hopkins. Loving Father of Ken Hopkins, Mary Ellen Vandeford and Karen Lisa Hopkins. Grandfather of Jennifer Hopkins, K.C. Hopkins and Aaron Vandeford. Great-grandfather of Jonathon and Matthew. James was founder and president of Pennsylvania Floor Covering Inc., and proudly served his country in World War II in both Europe and the South Pacific. James was also active in the South Hills Kennel Club. Friends received Sunday 7-9 p.m. and Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at BEINHAUERS, 2630 W. Liberty Ave., Pittsburgh, (412) 531-4000, where a service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday. MARY ELIZABETH (WHITEHEAD) KRAMER

Mary Elizabeth ( White head) Kramer, 95, of Delmont, died Friday, April 28, 2000, in the Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. She was born July 11, 1904, in East McKeesport, a daughter of the late Albert and Mary (McCune) White head Naser. Mary was the co-founder, with her husband, of Twin Valley Memorial Park in Delmont. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry C. Kramer, in 1972; a daughter, Ellen Marie Kramer; a grandson, Kenneth Vaia; a great-grandson, Davie Craig; two sisters , Martha Bushyager and Cora Belle Hoffman; and three brothers , Phillip, Russell and John Naser. She is survived by two daughters , Villia M. Kramer of Texas and LaVerne M. Vaia and husband, Jim, of Delmont; a son, Paul D. Kramer of Texas ; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends received at the VAIA FUNERAL HOME INC. at Twin Valley, 463 Athena Drive, Delmont, (724) 468-1177, Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home Monday at 10:30 a.m. with Father Donald Mondello of Holy Family Church, Latrobe, and the Rev. Joe Kim (cousin of Mary) of Irwin co-officiating. Private entombment will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park Mausoleum. The Delmont Firemen's Auxiliary will hold a service Sunday at 4 p.m.

JOHN MACHESKA JR.

John "Butch" Macheska Jr., 56, of West Newton, died Friday, April 28, 2000, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. He was born Feb. 23, 1944, in West Newton, a son of the late John Sr. and Thelma Boone Macheska. He was a baker for most of his life, and was employed at Giant Eagle in Elizabeth. He attended the First Church of God in West Newton, and was a member of the Association for the Deaf. He was an organ donor for C.O.R.E. He is survived by three sisters , Gloria Arnold of Bethel Park, JoAnn McElroy of Acme and Priscilla Janaszek of West View; a brother, Floyd Macheska of West Newton; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Friends received Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY JR. FUNERAL HOME INC., West Newton, where services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Frederick L. Bauer officiating. Interment West Newton Cemetery. If desired, memorials may be made to the First Church of God, 157 N. Second St., West Newton, PA 15089.

ARMELINA C. MARI

Armelina C. "Lena" Mari, 86, of Youngwood, died Saturday, April 29, 2000, in St. Anne Home, Greensburg. She was born March 24, 1914, in Youngwood, a daughter of the late Elvino and Christina Giovannucci Mari. She was a member of Holy Cross Church, Youngwood, where she was a former organist and choir director. She was also a member of Principessa #43, Catholic daughters , and was on the board of the Youngwood Cemetery. She retired from Robertshaw Controls, New Stanton, where she was secretary to the general managers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers , Romeo A. Mari and Albert Mari; and three sisters , Mary Falcon, Gina Mari and Bettina Mari. Surviving are a brother, John V. Mari of Youngwood; a sister, Louisa B. Messich of Youngwood; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the C. RICHARD McCAULEY FUNERAL HOME INC., Youngwood. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, Youngwood, with Father John S. Szczesny as celebrant. Interment in the Youngwood Cemetery.

LAURA MAE McKOWEN

Laura Mae McKowen, 66, of Grapeville, died Friday, April 28, 2000, at home. She was born Jan. 30, 1934, in Derry Township, a daughter of the late John W. and Lucy Saint Baker. Prior to retirement, she worked in the housekeeping department at Noah's Personal Care Home. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Jeannette. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Baker. She is survived by her husband, William R. McKowen; five daughters , Barbara McKowen of Jeannette, Bonita Scolskie and her husband, Larry, of Youngwood, Cindy Ankrom and her husband, Al, of Manor, Debbie Carney and her husband, Patrick, of Pittsburgh and Billie Nicely and her husband, Neal, of Grapeville; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers , James Baker of Greensburg and Warren Baker of Grapeville; three sisters , Henrietta Bair of Greensburg, Elsie Patrick of Grapeville and Mary Good of Jeannette; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends received at the MASON-GELDER FUNERAL HOME INC., 201 N. First St., Jeannette, Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Timothy Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Greensburg.

FLORENCE F. SALVATORE PALANGIO

Florence F. Salvatore Palangio, 87, of Greensburg, died Saturday, April 29, 2000, in the Westmoreland Manor, Hempfield Township. She was born July 7, 1912, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late Ferdinand Salvatore and Santa Petrella Salvatore Valerio, and the Father she loved dearly, Joseph Valerio. She was a member of the Church of St. Paul, Greensburg, and the McKenna Senior Citizens Center, Greensburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Palangio, in 1993; a daughter, Dolores R. Becker, in 1993; two brothers , Joseph Salvador and Eli Valerio; a sister, Ann Valerio Leone; and three infant siblings. She is survived by a daughter, Rose Marie and her husband, James F. Sinwell, of Greensburg; a grandson, Lt. Col. James C. Sinwell and his wife, Patricia, of Lorton, Va.; two great-grandchildren, Nicole and Kevin Sinwell; two brothers , Daniel and his wife, Amy Valerio, of Trafford and David J. and his wife, Betty Valerio, of Greensburg; two sisters , Antoinette Valerio Kley of Citrus Heights, Calif., and Sophia Valerio Nardizzi and her husband, Richard, of Sun City, Ariz.; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. There will be no public viewing. Friends will be received in the gathering area of the Church of St. Paul, 820 Carbon Road, Greensburg, Tuesday from 9 to 9:30 a.m., the time of a Funeral Mass with the Rev. Leonard W. Stoviak as celebrant. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township. BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., Greensburg, in charge of arrangements.

ROMAYNE LOUISE REEDY

Romayne Louise Reedy, 67, of Frederick, Md., formerly of Greensburg, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at the Citizens Nursing Home, Frederick, Md. She was the wife of the late Walter Dean Reedy. Born May 4, 1932, in Greensburg, she was a daughter of the late Antonio and Rose Fletcher Larry. Mrs. Reedy was a radiology technician employed by the state of Maryland with 32 years of service. She truly loved her work in public service, and was known for her candy-making at Christmas and Easter. She is survived by a son, Douglas A. Reedy and his wife, Marilyn, of Frederick, Md.; two brothers , Ritch Larry of Greensburg and Nicky Larry of Johnstown; and two sisters , Norma Hart of Youngwood and Mary Grace Kern of Jeannette. Mrs. Reedy was preceded in death by three brothers , Danny, Roy and Guy Larry. Friends will be received at the BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton at Green streets, Greensburg, MONDAY ONLY from 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow in the Greensburg Catholic Cemetery, Hempfield Township. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Citizens Nursing Home, Activities Department, 1900 Rosemont Ave., Frederick, MD 21702, or to Daybreak Adult Daycare Center, 7819 Rocky Springs Road, Frederick, MD 21702.
