PAUL SERBANJAK
Paul "Turk" Serbanjak, 77, of Herminie (Evanstown), died Saturday, March 4, 2000, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born April 19, 1922, in Evanstown, Hempfield Township, a son of the late Frank and Mary (Boltes) Serbanjak. Paul "Turk" was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, having served during World War II with the 364th Fighter Group. Prior to retirement, he was employed as a coal miner with Consolidation Coal Co., having last worked in the Hutchinson Mine. Paul "Turk" also was self-employed as owner/operator of Paul's Mobil, which included gasoline and groceries, and also was the neighborhood gathering place and official "card room." Paul "Turk" was one of the founding members of the "Little Sewickley Anglers." He was a member of the Herminie S.N.P.J. Lodge #87, and was an avid fisherman who especially enjoyed east coast fishing trips with his family and friends. He also coached boys baseball and girls softball. Paul "Turk" is survived by his wife of 50 years, Anna Rebecca (Karr) Serbanjak; sons , Paul "Turk" at home, John "Pickles" and his wife, Tammy, of Jeannette and Russell and his wife, Joni Karr, of Evanstown; daughters , Karen and husband, David Murray, of Darragh and Patty and husband, Jim Smith, of Wyano; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank Serbanjak of Evanstown; a sister, Mary Sova and husband, Ed, of Keystone; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Herminie, where services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Kenneth Bossart officiating. Interment with military honors accorded by the South Greensburg American Legion Post #981 will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township.
STELLA SLEBER
Stella Sleber, 86, of Feasterville, Pa., formerly of Herminie, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, in Ridge Crest Nursing Home, Feasterville. She was born Dec. 26, 1913, in Burnstown, Pa., a daughter of the late Frank and Agnes Snyder Turki. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Sleber; a sister, Mary Sadowsky; and a brother, Joseph Turki. A widow for many years, Stella is survived by her daughter, Nancy Davis of Philadelphia; twin grandsons, Adam and his wife, Lisa Davis, who are stationed in Germany, and their newborn daughter, Shelbi, and Joshua and his wife, Julie Davis, of Winchester, Va., and their daughter, Haley; and a number of nieces and nephews. S. WILLIAM STOUFFER
S. William Stouffer, 89, died Friday evening, March 3, 2000. He was born in Kewanee, Ill., and attended Purdue University, where he graduated in 1931 with an MSME degree. Following graduation he was employed by Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation, holding various positions in the maintenance and tin mill departments. In 1940, he received a Sloan Fellowship from MIT University where he graduated with an MBA degree. In 1941, he transferred to National Tube Company, serving as assistant chief engineer until 1948, when he returned to J&L Steel to work in the maintenance and construction departments. In 1960, he was appointed director of construction and maintenance and in 1970 vice president of engineering and construction. He retired in 1973. He resided in Moon Township during his years at the J&L Construction Department. He served as director for the Iron & Steel Institute. He served on the Moon Township School Board. He was active in Sharon Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder, and also as chairman of the building committee during construction of the new sanctuary in 1968. After retirement, he moved to Mt. Lebanon and was active in the West Penn Live Steam Model Railroad Club, serving as secretary- treasurer from 1976. He designed and constructed a 1-inch scale model of a Chessie Greenbrier 605 locomotive with tender and baggage car, which were operated on tracks of West Penn Live Steamers located outside Beaver, Pa. He also built a 1-inch scale model caboose. These models were donated to the Chesapeake and Ohio Historical Society. The locomotive and baggage car are on exhibit at the B&O Museum in Baltimore, Md., and the caboose is on display at the Historical Society Archive Center in Clifton Forge, Va. Mr. Stouffer is survived by his wife, Margaret; a sister, Elizabeth Stouffer; three daughters , Lesley Troy, Judith Thomas and Mary Lucas; stepson, William Schauffler; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at FREYVOGEL-SLATER FUNERAL DIRECTORS, 112 Fort Couch Road (opposite Lazarus, South Hills Village), Bethel Park. Friends will be received following a memorial service to be held in Sharon Presbyterian Church, Moon Township, at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 7. ZELLA R. MELLINGER TOTH
Zella R. Mellinger Toth, 90, of Elrama, formerly of Smithton RD, died Friday, March 3, 2000, in Jefferson Hospital, Jefferson Borough. She was born April 1, 1909, in Smithton, a daughter of the late Joseph C. and Anna Belle Walters Mellinger. She was a member of the Winnett United Methodist Church of Smithton, and a 1928 graduate of California State Teachers College, now California University. She was a former school teacher, having taught at Barren Run and Mineral schools. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul R. Toth; three brothers , David, Joseph and Byron Mellinger; and three sisters , Merna Gardner, Margaret Earley and Luberta Mellinger. She is survived by two sons , Thomas E. Toth of Elrama and Paul E. Toth of Smithton RD; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Velma Orisik of Smithton. Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the L.L. ANDREW G. ULTIS
Andrew G. Ultis, 76, of North Irwin, died Saturday, March 4, 2000, in Monsour Medical Center, Jeannette. He was born Aug. 20, 1923, in Penn Shaft, a son of the late Paul and Sadie (Vargo) Ultis. He was a retired inspector for Fisher Body, Dravosburg, with 32 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, 3937 Quartermaster Gas Supply Unit. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Velma S. (Geiger) Ultis, in 1999; two brothers , Samuel and Paul Ultis; and a sister, Julia Budesky. Survivors include a son, Ronald and wife, Wilma, of North Irwin; four granddaughters; a great-grandson; and a great-granddaughter. Anna (Drotar) Turcovsky Wannagat, 90, of Monroeville, on Friday, March 3, 2000. She is survived by a son, Francis A. Turcovsky and his wife, Rita Smith Turcovsky, of Turtle Creek; a sister, Mary Facchiana of Munhall; granddaughter, Melanie Altmeyer and children, Ryan, Autumn and Erin, of Clermont, Fla.; grandson, Lawrence Turcovsky of Penn Hills; grandson, Thomas F. Turcovsky and wife, Tina J., and sons , Tommy and Kyle, of Rock Creek, Ohio; granddaughter, Lisa A. Babjak and husband, John F., and children, Erik, Ashley and Colleen, of Swissvale. MARJORY E. BARNHART
Marjory E. Barnhart, 90, of New Stanton, died Friday, March 3, 2000, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born June 11, 1909, in Fairhope, a daughter of the late James and Laura Wilson Spahr. She was a lifelong member of the Carmichaels Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Karl B. Barnhart, in 1973; two brothers , Charles and Cyril Spahr; and two sisters , Irene Luce and Myrtle Holderbaum. She is survived by two sons , Barry K. and his wife, Bernice Barnhart, of New Stanton and Ronnie B. and his wife, Barbara Barnhart, of Pittsburgh; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. JOHN P. BORZA
John P. Borza, 83, of Greensburg, died Thursday, March 2, 2000, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born July 8, 1916, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late Stephen and Susan Melega Borza. Prior to retirement, he had been employed by White Motors, Cleveland, Ohio. He attended the Church of St. Paul, Greensburg, and was a member of the D.A.V. of Greensburg and the AARP. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers , Michael, Martin, William, and Stephen Jr.; and three sisters , Agnes Hamrock, Katherine Hails and Mary C. Macko. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. JOHN ROBERT CLINE
John Robert Cline, 83, of Derry, died Thursday, March 2, 2000, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Dec. 10, 1916, in Derry, a son of the late John R. and Florence I. (Heilman) Cline. He was a member of Derry Presbyterian Church; U.S. Army Air Corps veteran; Prudential representative for 23 years, retiring in 1978; 50-year member of LaMonte Lodge 568 F&AM; and active with Derry Township Agricultural Fair. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Ann; two brothers ; and a sister. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn I. Bonsall Cline; two daughters , Evelyn I. (and her husband, Dr. Tjalle T.) Vandergraaf of Pinawa, Manitoba, Canada, and Nancy L. Cline of Blairsville; three sons , Robert E. (and his wife, Karen) of Apollo, Charles E. (and his wife, Christine) of Mechesneytown and George R. (and his wife, Brenda) of Jacksonville, Ala.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Friends will be received in the McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 300 W. Third Ave., Derry, Sunday from noon to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., the time of service with the Rev. F. Neal Galley officiating. Esther Riccardo Fisher, 81, formerly of Rillton and North Huntingdon, died Friday, March 3, 2000, in the Westmoreland Manor, Greensburg. She was born March 17, 1918, in North Huntingdon, a daughter of the late Joseph and Maria Riccardo. She was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church of Herminie and a former member of the Immaculate Conception Church of Irwin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund "Dutch" Fisher. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the JOSEPH F. ROY S. KUNKLE
Roy S. Kunkle, 70, of New Stanton RD1, died Thursday, March 2, 2000, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born April 22, 1929, in Middletown, a son of the late Homer and Mildred Miller Kunkle. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict, having served with the U.S. Army. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a truck driver by the former Ryder Trucking Co. in Irwin. He was a member of the Norwin Alliance Church and the Teamsters Retirees Local 30. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Clifford Kunkle. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Hodge Kunkle; two sons , Bruce and his wife, Susan, of Toledo, Ohio, and Kenneth and his wife, Donna, of New Stanton RD1; four grandchildren, Jeremy, Alison, Kristie and Kandi Kunkle; and a great-granddaughter, Alyssa Kunkle. Also surviving are six brothers , Melvin and his wife, Mildred, of Harrison City, Charles and his wife, Jean, of Greensburg RD6, Keith and his wife, Carol, of Chambersburg, Pa., Richard and his wife, Frieda, of Greensburg RD6, a half brother, Dale and his wife, Sandra, of Greensburg RD6, and a stepbrother, Ronald Strasser and his wife, Eva, of North Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews. Anna M. Kusinsky, 97, a resident of Westmoreland Manor in Hempfield Township, formerly of Latrobe, died Thursday, March 2, 2000, in the Manor. She was born May 1, 1902, in Derry, a daughter of the late Patrick and Catherine (Eglhaut) Fern. She was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Latrobe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George A. Kusinsky, in 1960; and her sister, Viola Sopo. She was the last surviving member of her family. Friends will be received at the HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe, Monday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., at which time services will be held in the funeral home chapel with the Trinity Lutheran pastors officiating. PAUL R. McHAIL
Paul R. McHail, 79, of Murrysville, died Thursday, March 2, 2000, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born April 8, 1920, in Export, a son of the late Paul Lloyd and Florence Remaley McHail. He was a graduate of Bucknell University and a retired manager for PPG Industries, Pittsburgh, with 38 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Murrysville and a former member of the Highland Hackers Golf League. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Evelyn Barton McHail; three children, Sue Skillings and her husband, John, of Oxford, Ohio, Mark McHail of Murrysville and Kim Young and her husband, Charles, of Laurel, Md.; four grandchildren, Alan Skillings, Diana Smith, and Christopher and Samantha Young; and a brother, Harold McHail of Export. Visitation Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JOHN T. HART FUNERAL HOME, Murrysville. A service will be held in the funeral home Monday at 11 a.m. with Dr. T.
