Paul Joseph ‘Joe’ Derrough
Paul Joseph "Joe" Derrough, 72, of Gold Hill, died March 25, 2003, at his home. No service is planned.
He was born Aug. 8, 1930, in Milo, Iowa. On July 9, 1955, he married
Lila Faye Smith, who survives.
Mr. Derrough worked in construction for a while, and helped to build the castle at Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif. He later worked as a milkman for Adore Farms in Southern California. He moved to Gold Hill after his retirement in 1978.
He served in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Derrough enjoyed gardening, bee keeping and woodworking.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Thomas, Gold Hill; a daughter, Susan Derrough, Gold Hill; and three grandsons.

Robert Andrew Baker
The memorial service for Robert Andrew Baker will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Butte Falls Community Bible Church in Butte Falls. Pastor John Adams will officiate.
Mr. Baker, 29, of Butte Falls, died Monday (April 7, 2003) in an auto accident in Butte Falls.

He was born June 19, 1973, in Sierra Madre, Calif., to Gerald and Karen Baker. He attended Butte Falls High School from 1987 to 1989, when he moved to California. He graduated from Dana Point High School in Dana Point, Calif. He also attended Saddleback College in Irvine for two years. He returned to the Rogue Valley in 2002 from Salt Lake City.
Mr. Baker was an electrician and a salesman at the North Medford Fred Meyer for the last year.
He enjoyed fishing, golf, music and spending time with his nieces and nephews.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Karen and Leon Todd, Butte Falls; his father and stepmother, Gerald and Joanne Baker, Laguna Niguel, Calif.; two sisters, Angie Baker-Roman, Butte Falls, and Marnie Evans, Riverside, Calif.; and his grandparents, Ethel Geleta, Butte Falls, and Robert and Jacqueline Baker, Laguna Niguel, Calif.

Ralph H. Meinel
Ralph H. Meinel, 63, of Williams, died Wednesday (April 9, 2003) at his home. Arrangements will be announced by Grants Pass Funeral Alternatives and Crematory.
Francis V. Gartin-Oliver
The memorial service for Francis Virginia Gartin-Oliver will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Shady Cove Assembly of God. Pastor Jack Bacon will officiate. Interment will be at Hill cemetery in Chiloquin.
Mrs. Gartin-Oliver, 76, of Trail, died Wednesday (April 9, 2003) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

She was born June 11, 1926, in Chiloquin, to Henry William and Flava Ellen (Wright) Shadley. She attended school in Chiloquin and Elk Trail School in Trail. In 1941, she married
Harold Richard Gartin, who died in 1989. On April 16, 1994, in Cotter, Ark., she married
Orval "Beans" Otto Oliver, who survives.
Mrs. Gartin-Oliver was a homemaker. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1953 from the Eugene area.
She enjoyed crocheting, basket weaving, the outdoors and hunting and fishing.
Survivors include two sons, Calvin Gartin, Medford, and James Gartin, White City; three daughters, Margaret M. Lara and Roberta L. Conken, both White City, and Betty J. Gartin, Shady Cove; three stepdaughters, Orva Wayman, White City, Marie Caldwell, Portland, and Evelyn, Vancouver, Wash.; three sisters, Jessie McDougal, Medford, Barbara Wright, Chiloquin, and Ruth Farris, Bend; 21 grandchildren; and 50 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Harold "Sonny" Gartin; three brothers and five sisters.
Edith Fern White
The cryptside service for Edith Fern White will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sunrise Court at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Medford. A friend, Mike Travesi, will officiate.
Mrs. White, 84, of White City, died Wednesday (April 9, 2003) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

She was born Oct. 1, 1918, in Emporia, Kan., to Arthur and Fannie Long. On June 14, 1936, in Cripple Creek, Colo., she married
Ben Willard White, who died in 2002. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1977 from San Jose, Calif.
Mrs. White enjoyed gardening, playing Yahtzee, and her dog, Critter.
Survivors include a daughter, JoAnn Rogde, White City; four grandsons; 12 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald; and a daughter, Beverly White.

Bob E. White
Bob E. White, 52, of Talent, died Tuesday (July 27, 2004). His ashes will be scattered in Lander, Wyoming where he spent his childhood.
Bob was born on Aug. 31. 1951 in Santa Monica, CA. He moved to the Rogue Valley in the late 1970s. He lived the last 21 years in Talent.
He enjoyed hunting and golfing with his friends. He was a people person, and loved helping others.
Survivors include his mother, sister, nephew and niece.
Joel David Burgess
Joel David Burgess, 62, of Shady Cove, died Saturday (July 31, 2004) in Eagle Point. Private services will be held. His ashes will be scattered at sea.
Memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Association, or to the Heart Association.
He was born on Feb. 13, 1942 in Detroit, MI to Joel and Virginia Burgess. On Oct. 27, 1983 in Las Vegas, NV he married
Elizabeth (Simpson) Burgess who survives.
Mr. Burgess was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 178 and the National Rifle Association.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In addition to his wife survivors include; a son, David Burgess; daughters Sheri Gourley, Wendy Estrada, and Annette Stansfield; a sister Cindy Curry; a brother; Donald Burgess; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother.

Weldena 'Dena' J. Chellis
Weldena "Dena" June Chellis, 80, died Saturday July 31, 2004.
She was born December 24th, 1924 in Grant City, MO to Claude and Marie Henry. On October, 6 1978, she married
Earl Clayton Chellis.
"Dena" is survived by, one son Con Singley of Medford, Or.

Carissa Kelly Woodrome
Carissa Kelly Woodrome, 17, of Medford, passed away at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004 at 4 p.m. at Ashland Christian Fellowship. Pastor Mark Anderson will officiate.
Carissa was born on Sept. 19, 1986 in Ashland to Norman and LeAnne (Walker) Woodrome. She lived in Florida before moving back to Medford in 2004. She attended the Steps program at McLoughlin Middle School. Carissa enjoyed music and watching Rugrats movies.
Survivors include her parents, Norman and LeAnne Woodrome of Medford; sister, Crystal Philp of Florida; brother, Michael Woodrome of Florida; grandparents, Don and Joyce Ault of White City, and Tom and Juanita Elam of Ruch; and several aunts, uncles, nephews and cousins. Carissa was preceded in death by her grandfather, Norman A. Woodrome, Sr., great grandmother, Martha Jordan, and a brother, Gregory Woodrome.
Memorial contributions may be made to the pediatric unit at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Daniel Mark Baker
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Daniel Mark Baker will be at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 15, at Foots Creek Chapel, on Foots Creek Road, Gold Hill. Internment will be at 3 p.m. at Eagle Point VA National cemetery.
Daniel, 47, of Gold Hill, died Sept. 4, 2004 from a motor vehicle accident.
He was born Oct. 2, 1957 in Vallejo, CA to Byron and Juanita Baker. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1993 to be closer to his family.
Daniel served in the U.S. Navy. He worked in the pear industry.
He enjoyed playing the guitar with his brother, swimming, the outdoors, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his mom, Juanita Barnes; his brother, Richard Altieri; his sister, Judith Oachs; a daughter, Angela Tinoco of Yuba City, CA; and two grandchildren, Alyssa and Belle Isabela.
Donald Irwin Hammer
After a valiant fight with cancer, Donald Irwin Hammer died on September 8, 2004.
Survivors include Marion Bowers Hammer, his wife of 57 years; his son Scott Kennedy Hammer and wife, Janet of Richmond, Virginia; and his daughter, Jennifer Carroll Hammer of El Cerrito, California. He also leaves a sister, Margie Thoney, several nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews, all of California.
Dr. Hammer was born on April 22, 1926 in Cawker City, Kansas. He served in the Air Corps during World War II, training as a tail gunner. His undergraduate work was done at the Western Washington College in Bellingham Washington. He married
Frances Marion Bowers in Troy, Alabama in 1947.
Dr Hammer received his Doctorate degree in Mathematics at Columbia University, New York. He was a professor of mathematics at Adelphi University, Garden City, New York. He was an Elder in the Northport Presbyterian Church.
After living on Long Island for many years, the Hammers retired to the Eastern Shore of Virginia. In 2001 they moved to the Rouge Valley Manor, in Medford, Oregon.
He became a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Medford.
He was a watercolorist, a gardener, and a singer, being a member of the Barbershop and Siskiyou Singers. He loved hiking and camping with his family in the United States, Europe and Africa. He was truly a renaissance man.

Elizabeth 'Lizz' Lillian Quiring
Lizz went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sept. 8 at the age of 56. She died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family.
Lizz was born to Dorothy and Peter Vega on December 1, 1947 in Los Angeles, California. At an early age the family moved to San Jose, California where Lizz graduated from Overfelt High School in 1965. On July 23, 1966, Lizz married
her high school sweetheart Jim who survives. Lizz moved to Medford, Oregon with Jim in 1972. Over the next 32 years, Lizz was very involved in many ministries at Bethel Church in Medford. She taught Sunday School classes, puppet ministry, youth ministry, vacation Bible school, and women's Bible studies. She was the Christian Education Director, Women's Ministry Director and was the leader of women's retreats.
In 1984 Lizz graduated from Southern Oregon College with a degree in accounting. Lizz ran her own accounting business for several years. She then worked for West Coast Appliance and then Larson's, retiring in 2000.
Lizz loved to cook for her family and also did several banquets for her church. After retirement she began to do some writing and eventually wanted to have some articles submitted to Christian magazines.
Lizz's favorite pastime was to visit and sit by waterfalls with Jim throughout Oregon and Hawaii.
She is survived by her loving husband Jim; daughter, Cheryl Zavala; son, Todd; granddaughters, Kristin, Felicia, and Stacey; step-mother, Leona Quiring; sister-in-laws Patricia Quiring and V.J.. Quiring; as well as 3 sisters living in California.
A memorial service for Lizz will be held at noon, Tuesday, Sept. 14 at at Bethel Church, 1225 E. McAndrews. Pastor Tim Olson will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Building Fund of Bethel Church would be appreciated.
