Her other lifelong passions included dancing, traveling and volunteering. Joann's toes were always moving to the music, whether it was ballet, Scottish Country Dance, tap, clogging, or modern. She loved dancing so much that before becoming a teacher, she even aspired to be a Rockett! After moving to Ashland, Joann volunteered with AAUW and the Tudor Guild. She also enjoyed the friendship and activities of various clubs and book groups. Continuing her lifelong love of enriching children's lives, she taught Sunday and Vacation Bible School at the First Methodist Church of Ashland while occasionally being a substitute teacher in the public schools. Joann's tenacity and inspiration grew even greater after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer six years ago. She lived each day as if it were her last. She amazed everyone with her ability to dance while undergoing numerous chemotherapies. Joann felt deeply blessed by her many friends and family who rallied around her in her last days bringing food, flowers, and mostly their love.

She will be loved always by her husband David of 40 years, her daughter Debora (Wayne), sons Terry (Felicia) and Ken (Lynn). We would like to thank the friends, family and the wonderful staff at the Providence Hospice Center for the support that allowed us to spend time with our beloved mom and wife.
