Robert E. Miller
Lifelong area rancher, Robert E. (Bob) Miller Sr., 82, passed away Feb. 23, 2003 at Ashland Community Hospital. Bob was born July 6, 1920 to Harry and Jessie Miller at Joseph Oregon and came with his family to the Ashland area at age of 6.
Bob was an active rancher until just recently when he was slowed down due to health reasons. In his life, he owned and leased numerous ranches in Jackson and Siskiyou counties, including the Box-O Ranch on Jenny Creek and the Camp Creek Ranch near Irongate Lake. He returned to Ashland about 1970 and leased the historic Dunn Ranch for some 30 years. He was well known to many people in the area.
Bob enjoyed raising and trading cattle and horses and regularly attended the Rogue Valley and Klamath Auction sales for many years. He was also a member of the Oregon and Jackson County Cattlemen's Associations.
The Oak Tree Restaurant was a favorite spot for him to meet and visit with many friends. Bob also helped and encouraged many young people as he worked with them in the ranching environment.
He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Robert Jr. and Patricia Miller of Montague, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law, Ellin and Bill Spearin of Alpine, Wyo.; brother, Harry Miller and wife Leslye Rae of Lakehead, Calif.; sister, Dorothy Upchurch of Medford; grandson, Tom Spearin of Boise, Idaho; granddaughter and husband, Tara and Chet Porterfield and great granddaughters, Kady and Kara Porterfield of Macdoel, Calif.; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by grandson, Brain Miller and sister, June Aftring.

A service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, at the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, 1811 Ashland St., Ashland. Interment will follow at the Mountain View Cemetery, Ashland. There will be an old-fashioned gathering of friends and family at the Windsor Best Western Inn (east of the Ashland central exit) following the interment.

Carlos Garcia
A memorial service for Carlos Garcia will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, at Ashland First United Methodist Church, 175 North Main St., Ashland. The Rev. Michael Powell will officiate.

Donald Dale McClain
Donald Dale McClain, 96, of Ashland, formerly of Topeka, Kan., died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, in Ashland. A family service is planned in Ashland followed by the funeral in Topela, Kan. where his remains will be buried next to his wife, Clara.
Donald was born July 25, 1906 in Cement, Okla., son of Ulysses and Senah McClain. He was raised in St. Mary's, Kan. On Dec. 3, 1935 in Topeka, Kan., he married the former Clara Elizabeth Fitzgerald, who preceded him in death.
He lived in the Rogue Valley since 2000 from Kansas.
As a young man, he studied briefly at the Art Institute of Chicago. Settling in Topeka, Kan., he was a longtime employee of hte Jordan Sunbeam Bakery. he enjoyed fishing, gardening, woodcarving and "puttering" around the house.
Surviving are his son, Don Van Valen McClain of Kansas City, Mo.; daughter, C. Suzanne Bissey of Ashland; one older sister, Edith Huntsman of Topeka, Kan.; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Dorothea Mae Graham
Dorothea Mae Graham, 82, of Talent, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, at Providence Medford Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2003, at the First United Methodist Church in Ashland with Pastor Michael Powell officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to First Methodist Church, 175 N. Main St., Ashland, Ore. 97520.
Dorothea Mae Graham was born May 21, 1920 in Spur, Texas, daughter of David and Ida Mae Taylor. On Sept. 2, 1941, she married Edwin Graham in Texas.
She has been residing in the Rogue Valley for the past five years, moving here from Southern California.
She lived most of her life in Southern California. She had been a minister with the United Methodist Church in both Glendale and North Hollywood, Calif. She was also a member of the Ashland PEO. besides being active with her church, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivor include her son, Denny Graham of Ashland; daughter, Barbara Harris of Tustin, Calif.; three grandchildren; and one great grandchild. Preceded in death were her parents and her husband.

Carlos Garcia

Carlos was born Aug. 31, 1914 in Long Beach, Calif. to Teofilo and Teresa Uzeta Garcia. He lived in the Rogue Valley from 1997 to 2003. He married Ruth Jennette Locke, who survives, on Dec. 16, 1945 in Long Beach, Calif. He was educated at Long Beach Community College. He worked as a photographer engineer. Carlos served in the US Army Sig. Corp from 1943 to 1945.
His hobbies included woodworking, birds and photography. He is a member of the Coffee Clatch at Grizzly Peak Cafe.
Survivors includes wife, Ruth of Phoenix; sons, Nick of Ashland and Dave of Downey, Calif.

Dr. Christopher Troy Garriott
Dr. Christopher Troy Garriott, 87, of Front Royal, Va., died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 3004, at Warren Memorial Hospital.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2003, at Panorama Memorial Gardens.
Dr. Garriott was born Feb. 10, 1916, in Harristown, Ill., son of John Walter and Anna McClure Garriott. He served as an assistant minister from the Central Christian Church in Decatur, Ill., from 1937 to 1940. Her served as a senior minister with the following churches: from 1940 to 1944 Cameron Christian Church in Cameron, Ill., from 1944-1970 St. Paul Community Church in Homewood, Ill., from 1970 to 1980 North Chevy Chase Christian Church in Chevy Chase, Md.. After retirement, he served as an interim minister in Winchester, Culpeper and Orange. He wrote several books throughout his life. In 1958, he won the Bethany Press Book Award for his book "Making the Most of the Time". In 1960, he was an exchange minister to Great Britain sponsored by the United Council of Churches. He served on several boards of directors for hospitals and charitable organizations in the Chicago area. He was a graduate of James Millikin University in Decatur, Ill. and was president of the class of 1938. He was married to the late Jean Eleanor McCommons Garriott.
Survivors include three sons, Max Christopher Garriott of Jackson, Miss., Theodore Eugene Garriott of Phoenix and Daniel Walter Garriott of Front Royal, Va.; and grandson, Scott Christopher Garriott of Phoenix.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Maddox Funeral Home.
Patricia Adelle Wells
Patricia Adelle Wells, 63, of Ashland, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2003 at her home surrounded by her daughters and her grandchildren. There will be no services planned, but memorial contributions may be sent to: Providence Health Foundation/To Hospice, 111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, Ore. 97504.
Patricia was born May 25, 1939 to Steve and Frances Antonucci in Lynwood, Calif. She grew up in Southern California and met and married her childhood sweetheart, Larry Wells, in Bell, Calif. in 1956. She then graduated from Bell High School in 1957. She had her first daughter in 1957 and her second daughter in 1958. She then moved to Ashland in Nov. 1964. She had her third daughter in 1969. She worked as a bookkeeper for a number of years, then at the Ashland Goodwill for ten years and finally Ashland Rite Aid where she worked in the Post Office substation until her illness got too bad to work.
Her hobbies were camping with the family, bowling and bingo. She especially loved going to watch her grandchildren play sports. She'd always be there cheering them on no matter how bad she felt.
She is survived by three daughters, Renee Haag of Talent, Cheryl (Robert) LaFontaine of Central Point and Lisa Joss (Curtis Bentley) of Ashland; grandchildren, Elijah and Ariel Haag of Talent and John Uerlings of Maimi, Fl., Jessica and Sarah LaFontaine of Central Point, and Kaylieb, Devian, Myranda Joss and Brenden Joss-Bentley of Ashland; sister, May Dunn (Robert) of Tucson, Ariz.; mother-in-law, Ruth Wells of Talent; son-in-law, Clint Haag of Phoenix; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by parents. Steve and Frances Antonucci; husband, Larry Madison Wells; sister, betty Clupny; brother, Blair Antonucci; son-in-law, Chris Joss.
She touched so many lives with her enormous generosity and loving kindness. She will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.
