John Schumacher
John Schumacher, died Sunday (Jan. 18, 2004) in Jacksonville, OR. He was 57 years old.
John was born and raised in Westchester, CA. While he was living in California he worked at Continental Airlines in Los Angeles as a machinist for 10 years. He moved to Jacksonville, OR in 1984, and worked in construction and building pole barns for Bigfoot Earth Boring until his death.
John was a wonderful caring individual. He was always helping or "taking care" of someone during his life.
He loved rafting and being outdoors. He could repair just about anything and was constantly "tinkering" with one thing or another. His kind heart and giving disposition will be greatly missed.
He left surviving all his friends and buddies from Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by his mother; his brother Joe; and his son Sean.
A celebration of John's life will be held at noon Saturday, Jan. 24, on French Gulch Road, Applegate Lake, Applegate.
We love and miss you John, but you will be remembered in our hearts forever!
Margaret M. Clarke
At her request, there are no services to be held for Margaret M. Clarke, 87, of Medford, who died Monday (Jan. 19, 2004) at her home.
Mrs. Clarke, one of eleven children, was born May 11, 1916 in Arcata, CA to Sherman T. and Rosalina (Farley) Wymore.
On Oct. 25, 1937 in Grants Pass she married
Charles T. Clarke who died in 1996. She lived most of her life in the Rogue Valley.
She was a homemaker and an owner of Hutchins & Clarke General Contractors for at least 50 years.
Mrs. Clarke enjoyed bowling.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol Keeney of Tigard, OR; a sister; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Richard, and nine siblings.

Nelda Morton
Nelda Morton, 74, of Medford, died Monday, January 19, 2004 at her home with her family.
During her life, she loved bridge and the people she played with. She also enjoyed trips to Nevada with friends and family.
She is survived by 1 son, Philip Morton; 1 daughter, Judi Hanstein; 2 granddaughters, Tisheena and Taileigh; 3 sisters, Mary, Melba and Lorene; and a sister of choice, Alice Sharp.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil I. Morton, 3 brothers and her parents.
Your remembrance of Nelda will be in your time at the places you enjoyed her most.

Phyllis M. Vannier-Tilford
Phyllis Marie Vannier-Tilford, 78, of White City, died Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at Providence Medford Medical Center.
There will be a Memorial service on Friday, January 23, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Living Praise Church, 115 Gibbon Road, Central Point.
Mrs. Tilford was born on May 11, 1925. She is survived by 3 children, Teri Goodson, of White City, Jalean Bradshaw of Buena Park, CA and Jim Vannier of Central Point; 9 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and 2 sisters, Evelyn Traxler and Jean Miller.
She was preceded in death by her husband and 1 brother.
Roger Josiah Note
Roger Josiah Note, 75, of Medford, died Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at a local foster care.
No Memorial services will be planned. Roger's ashes will be scattered in the spring, at his favorite hunting site.
Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford Hospice.
Roger was born January 9, 1929 in Jerome, Idaho to Rex and Mary Note. On June 30, 1950 in Medford, he married
Audree Andrews, who survives. Mr. Note lived in the Rogue Valley since 1946, moving from Palo, Alto, CA.
Roger graduated from Medford High in 1947. He worked for the Wood Products Industries since 1947-2002.
He was a past member of Medford Elks, Masonic Lodge, Cedar Links Men's Club, Rogue Valley Country Club, Stewart Meadows Men's Club. He enjoyed water skiing, snow skiing, trail bike riding, sail boating, hunting, fishing, camping, golf and vegetable gardening.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, Audree Note, include: son, Stephen James Note of Medford; 2 brothers of Medford, H. S. "Bud" Note and Raymond R. Note; 1 sister, Hazel Davies of Roseville, CA; 1 grandson, Spencer James Note of Medford; and a step-granddaughter, Jennifer Espinosa of Medford. He was preceded in death by his father Rex and mother Mary Note, and a brother Gerald Note.

Diane Elaine Landis
After a long battle with cancer, Diane Elaine Landis died on January 1, 2004 at her home in Walnut Creek, California.
She was born in Dallas, Texas in 1946 and grew up in Medford, graduating from Medford High School in 1964 and the University of Oregon in 1968. After Diane and Jeff Hiatt were married
they lived in Colorado and Washington.
She is survived by her daughter, Kaila Hiatt of Walnut Creek; parents, Carl and Caryn of Portland; brothers David of Portland and Eric of Stillwater, Minnesota, as well as uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Diane enthusiastically shared her life with family members and friends. At her memorial service in Walnut Creek, she was fondly remembered by her family and friends as an individual who touched many lives through her kindness, honesty, leadership and sense of humor. Her interests included sports, travel and crafts. Diane will be greatly missed.

Larry Sheile Sr.
Wasilla, Alaska resident Larry Sheile Sr., 77, died of complications from a long illness January 8, 2004, at Valley Hospital in Palmer, AK. A private burial will be held by his family in Alaska.
He was born November 23, 1926 in Evansville, Indiana. He moved to California when he was six months old. He served three years in the Army during the Second World War, and he served four years in the Air Force during the Korean War.
He worked for Grants Pass Plywood, in Grants Pass, from 1959 to 1961. From 1961 to 1988, he worked for Elk Lumber Company/Boise Cascade in Medford, then retired. He found it hard to sit still so went to work for The Ashland Daily Tidings in Ashland, and worked there from 1990 to 1998, when he retired for a second time.
He met Mary Martin in California in 1949. They were married
December 1, 1951. They left California in 1959 heading for Alaska, on the way they stopped in Oregon and lived there for forty-one years, before finally making it to Alaska in 2000. He made many friends in his journey through life and was loved by all. He was a loving husband and a father who will be dearly missed.
He loved to go fishing and collecting knives. He relaxed by doing poster art and loving his many dogs throughout his life.
Mr. Sheile is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Mary Sheile; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Darlene Sheile Jr. of Eagle Point; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Frank Allen of Medford; daughter and son-in-law, Colleen and Curtis Lucas of Wasilla, AK; brother and sister, Everett and Reba Pearce of Santa Ana, CA; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were by Valley Funeral Home and Crematory in Wasilla, AK.
Leady Mae Meyer
Leady Mae Meyer, 82, of Eagle Point, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 1 p.m., at Memory Gardens Mortuary. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
She was born Leady Mae Frazier on April 1, 1921 in Stigler, OK. On June 26, 1955 in Reno, NV she married
Ernest Carl Meyer, who preceded her in death in 1996.
Mrs. Meyer lived in the Rogue Valley from 1934 to 1951, when she moved to California and then Washington. She moved back here in 1993.
She was a member of the Baptist Church, and enjoyed gardening and sewing.
She is survived by a son, Bill Marshall of Eagle Point; a daughter, Betty Mae Blachly of Eagle Point; a brother, Opie Frazier of Medford; a sister, Lois Bernard of Erick, OK; 11 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 27 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Memory Gardens Mortuary.
Lillian M. Stamper
A memorial service for Lillian M. Stamper will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24 at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 1700 N.E. 132 Ave., Portland.
Lillian, 95, of Tigard, formerly of Central Point, passed away Sunday (Jan. 18, 2004) in Tigard.
She was born on Oct. 16, 1908 to Frank F. & Dora (Green) Clark in Central Point, OR.
Lillian, a homemaker, was an Oregonian all of her life. She formerly resided in Klamath Falls, OR where she was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary.
She enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.
Survivors include a granddaughter, Susan Johnson of Clackamas; step-son, Monte Stamper; step-daughter, July Grautski; grandchildren, Terry Manary of Portland, OR, Jason Manary of Vancouver, WA, Jenny Manary of Portland, OR, Drew Manary of Portland, Scotty, Mark, Cindy, Lori Ann, Nani, Curtis, & Brian; and two great-grandchildren.

Linda S. Gutches
Linda S. Gutches, 47, of Medford, died at Providence Hospital on Wednesday, January 21, 2004, following a long and courageous battle with diabetes.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 26, 2004 at Conger-Morris Funeral Home, 715 West Main, Medford.
Linda was born July 9, 1956 in Detroit, Michigan to Donald and Signe Bluhm. She attended grade school in Lancaster, California, and later moved with her family to Rogue River where she attended Rogue River High School. On March 25, 1972, she married
Les G. Gutches in Rogue River.
In 1988, Linda and Les moved to Medford where she spent the remainder of her life. Linda's passions were many, including fine food (both preparing and eating), and she was a dedicated viewer of the Food Network. Most of all, she loved sharing time with her family and friends, and spending long weekends at the Oregon coast.
Survivors include her husband, Les; her three sons, Les of Corvallis, Jason of Portland, and Chad of Medford; their wives and her grandchildren, Griffin, Paige, and Alexis (who is to be born soon); her parents, Donald and Signe Bluhm of Rogue River; her sister, Cindy Hess of Canby; brothers, Don Bluhm of Reno, Nevada, and Dan Bluhm of Gold Hill; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Mrs. Billie I. King
Mrs. Billie I. King, 83, died January 5, 2004 at home, surrounded by her family in Oroville, CA. There will be a private memorial.
She was born May 11, 1920 in Baird, Texas. Billie married
Mark Anthony in 1938 and had two sons, Leon and Tony. In 1946, she married
Archie King. They traveled and lived in Colorado, Arizona and California before settling in the Rogue Valley in 1971. Billie and Archie had one daughter, Dyanna and two sons, Dallas and Duane.
Billie worked at the Ashland hospital and the Rogue Valley Manor. For the past 18 years, she enjoyed working on the production line at Bear Creek Corp. Her stamina and drive in life was inspirational to all of those who knew her.
She enjoyed traveling, swimming and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include four sons, Tony Anthony of Oroville, CA, Leon Anthony of Felton, CA, Dallas and Duane King of Medford, and daughter, Dyanna Ward of Hampton, VA; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Rudolph 'Rudy' Broadbeck
The funeral service for Rudolph "Rudy" C. Broadbeck will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Church of the Nazarene, Medford. Private Cryptside services will follow in Memory Gardens Memorial Park. Pastor Kevin Gowland will officiate.
Mr. Broadbeck, 94, of Medford, died Thursday (Jan. 22, 2004) at Three Fountains Nursing Center.
He was born July 13, 1909 in Cochise, AZ. On Sept. 7, 1938 in Van Nuys, CA he married
the former Helen Stults who survives.
Mr. Broadbeck worked for the Los Angeles Water Dept. from 1922- 1943, when he moved to Medford. He then worked for Timber Products from 1943 as a hot press operator, until his retirement in 1974.
He enjoyed horses and horseback riding, fishing and raising birds in his aviary.
Survivors include his wife, Helen R. Broadbeck of Medford; a daughter, Ellen DouBrava of Medford; a sister, Lena Bailey of Canyonville; three granddaughters, Barbara Signalness of Wilsonville, OR, Christine VanAlstine of Milwaukie, OR, and Stephanie DouBrava of New York, NY; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie Gebhard; a son, Bob Broadbeck; a brother, Ed Broadbeck; and a sister, Lucy Reeser.

Alma Nola King
A memorial service for Alma Nola King will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004 at Lozier Lane Baptist Church, 794 Lozier Lane, Medford. Pastor Bill Larsen of Lozier Lane Baptist Church will officiate.
Mrs. King, 84, of Medford, died Saturday (Jan. 24, 2004) at her home.

She was born on March 12, 1919 in Semninole, OK to William and Violet Cherry (Bristol). In 1949 she married
Jack King who preceded her in death in 1989.
During WW II she worked as a Riveter Supervisor in Wichita, KS. She was called one of the Rosey the Riveters on Beach Aircrafts. She worked as a Avon Representative for over 40 years, and a president club member.
Alma was an active member of the Lozier Lane Baptist Church.
She enjoyed reading, gardening and she loved birds.
Survivors include four daughters, Sylvia Rose "Cherry" Edwards of Milwaukee, OR, Angela Stone of Corning, CA, Mary Margaret Mott of Medford, and Roxanna Irene Spielbusch of Medford; 17 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death four sisters; and one brother.
