Joan A. Early
Joan A. Early, beloved mother and gentle woman, died Wednesday, October 29, 2003.

Joan was one of three daughters of John and Bertha Maestretti from Petaluma, California. Margaret Gacomini, her oldest sister preceded her in death. Her younger sister, Judy Gordon resides in Round Hill, VA. As a girl, Joan and her sisters shared a loving home life and Joan having no brothers was often the appointed tomboy on fishing and hunting expeditions.

Joan married Edward Early, a high school sweetheart, while she was working at Wells Fargo Bank and after he graduated from Santa Clara University. Ed and Joan then went into army life at Fort Lewis, Washington where they had their two sons, Allan and John. Fulfilling their military obligation, Joan and Ed moved back to Petaluma where Ed worked for Fireman's Fund Ins. Co. and Joan had their third child, Catherine. The company transferred the family to Sacramento, CA, where their forth child, Theresa, was born. The family then moved to Medford, Oregon where Ed was a partner in Security Insurance, and Joan ran the more complicated venture of the household.

Joan and Ed had a loving marriage of 43 years until Ed's death in 1998, but her love of family continues in those she left behind: four children, Allan Early, John Early, Cathy Thompson and Teri Copley; and four grandchildren, Craig and Ryan Thompson, and Emily and Jacob Copely.

Joan was an avid 49er football fan, loved roses and was a great cook. She was devoutly Catholic and was active in the Providence Hospital Guild, St. Mary's High School and Santa Clara University. Caring for others and teaching the right way were what Joan did with her life.

Joan's services will be held at the Sacred Heart Church in Medford on November 4th, 8:00 a.m. Rosary, 8:30 a.m. Funeral with Burial to follow. There will also be a mass in memorial of Joan to be held at St. Vincent's church in Petaluma, CA announced by parish bulletin.
