Alpha Marie Branson
Alpha Marie Branson, 88, of Central Point died Saturday (Jan. 17, 2004) at the Countrywood Adult Foster Care Facility in Central Point.
Mrs. Branson was born July 16, 1915 in Wappapello, MO. On Sept. 29, 1934 in Monticello, Utah, she married
Robert Perry Branson who preceded her in death in 1988.
She moved to Central Point with her husband in 1945 after his discharge from the Army following WWII.
Alpha was a homemaker and an accomplished artist. She also wrote poetry and short stories for her own enjoyment, mostly about animals, birds and nature. She had a "green thumb" and could get almost anything to grow.
She and her husband enjoyed listening to and playing music, especially old fiddle tunes. He was a member of the Old Time Fiddlers.
Survivors include two sons, L. Dwaine Branson of Anderson, CA, and Vernon Leon Branson of Central Point; one sister, Joy Kerby of Phoenix, OR; 8 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for both Alpha and Robert will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, at the Eagle Point National Cemetary.

Andrew W. Foley
Andrew W. Foley, 85, of Medford, died peacefully at home on January 16, 2004, surrounded by his family.
A memorial service will be held at Eagle Point National cemetery on Friday, January 23rd at 11 a.m. The family will also host a reception for family and friends at their home to celebrate Andy's life on Saturday, January 24th from 3 to 5 p.m.
Born in 1918 in Devils Lake, ND, Andy will be remembered as a loving husband and father who dedicated many years to a civil service career with the Veterans Administration. After growing up in North Dakota, Andy served in the Navy on a submarine during World War II.
In 1945, he married
Ruth Huber and they moved to Seattle, WA, where Andy earned his doctorate at the University of Washington. Within four years, the couple had three daughters.
After two years as a teacher and counselor at Seattle University, Andy began his career as a psychologist with the Veterans Administration in Walla Walla, WA. He and his family moved to Hot Springs, SD before coming to Medford where he served as Chief Psychologist at the White City Domiciliary.
After retiring in 1977, he enjoyed woodworking, reading, bridge, golf, and an expanding family that includes six grandchildren. His family and friends will remember him for his strength of character, sense of humor, and family values.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years; three daughters, Kathy Puryear, Karen Tobey and Jean Foley, all from the San Francisco Bay area; a twin sister, Ann Raveling of Valley City, ND; and six grandchildren.

Barbara Hollander
The memorial service for Barbara Louise Hollander, 81, of Central Point, who died Friday (Jan. 16, 2004) at Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford, was held Monday. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mrs. Hollander was born Feb. 15, 1922 in Adams, Oregon to Edward E. and Mabel (Baker) McCollum. On Sept. 12, 1944 in Pendleton, OR she married
J.B. Hollander who died in 1992. They moved to the Rogue Valley from Klamath Falls in 1960.
She was a homemaker and assisted her daughter at Rogue River Valley University Club.
Mrs. Hollander was a member of the Rogue Valley Christian Church, Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, the Women's Bowling Assoc. and a lifetime member of the Rebekah Lodge. She was a Pink Lady volunteer at Rogue Valley Medical Center and enjoyed bowling.
Survivors include her children and spouses, JB and Mary Hollander of Roseburg, Bobbie and Frank Bartyzal of Central Point, Pam and Paul McCallister of Hornbrook, CA, Cherie and Henry Keesee of Medford; ten grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter; two brothers; and three sisters. Another sister died on Saturday (Jan. 17, 2004).

Barbara Ziegler
Barbara Ziegler, 85, of Medford, died Friday (Jan.16, 2004) at Horton Plaza.

Bonnie Delladio
Bonnie Delladio, born August 9, 1935, Detroit, Michigan, died January 3, 2004, Jacksonville, Oregon. Bonnie is survived by her Mother Lucille; Hank-husband of 48 years; her sons Mark and Christian; daughters in- love Karen and Sandi; and six precious grandchildren: Gabriel, David, Coleman, Jenna, Jeremiah and Autumn.
She loved the Lord and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian and Cornerstone Christian Church.
In her time, she threw her incessantly creative spirit into being a wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, homemaker, shepherd, gardener, card maker, artist, matt cutter, spinner, quilter, beachcomber, nature lover and friend. She also was one of the original partners at Jacksonville's Pickety Place.
Memorial services will be held at Cornerstone Christian Church, Saturday 24 January 2004 at 11 am. Pastors Ted Broadway and Mark Delladio officiating.

Lance McCord
Lance O'Leary McCord, 72, of Klamath Falls, died Jan 19, 2004 at Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford. A gathering of family and friends will be held Jan 24, at the Shenandoah Restaurant, 1 p.m. in Medford.
Lance was born July 11, 1931, in Ridgeway, MT to Edward and Mabel (Logan) McCord. He was married
to Viola Lutton for 11 years and to Sue Allen for 13 years.
He was a long haul truck driver for many years. He was a co-founder of the Sutherlin Eagles Lodge, and enjoyed his family, fishing and the NFR in Las Vegas (National Rodeo Finals).
He is survived by his sons, Zane and Debbie McCord of Sutherlin, Clint McCord of Bend; daughters, Roxanne Bulock of Central Point, Kelly and Allen Tron of Klamath Falls, Cindy Nickleson of Roseburg, Lisa Cisco of Sutherlin; brothers, LaVerne McCord of Quartzite, AZ, Roy McCord of Grants Pass; sisters, Evelyn Dodd of Dillon, MT, Ruth Loehding of Spokane, WA, Dorothy Bernard of Salt Lake, UT, Bessie Karinen of Scottsdale, AZ; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by 2 children, Flint and Randy; and brothers; Cliff, Dale and Kenneth.

Lillian M. Evans
Lillian M. Evans, 80 year old Yreka resident, died on Monday, January 19, 2004 at the Madrone Hospice House.
Lillian was born on February 11, 1923 to Charles and Alma Dingee in Warwick, Rhode Island, now called Providence, Rhode Island. She married
John Evans in October of 1952 in Providence.
The couple moved to Yreka 10 years ago from Eagle Point. Lillian was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She was very active in the church, helping out in many ways including teaching catechism.
Lillian is survived by her husband, John Evans Sr. of Yreka; three sons, John Evans, Jr. of Huntington Beach and his fiance, Maggie Anderson, Bob Evans of Phoenix, OR, and Thomas Evans of Seattle, WA; brother-in-law, Joe Evans of Huntington Beach; two nieces and their husbands, Karen and Paul Cavenaugh of Rhode Island and Fran and Brian Harkins of Benecia, CA; nephew, Kenny Mernick; and many close friends.
The recitation of the rosary will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2004 at 7 p.m. in Girdner Funeral Chapel, Yreka. Mass of Christian burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Yreka at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 23, 2004. Interment will follow in Eagle Point National cemetery, Eagle Point at 1 p.m.

Marian Watt
Marian Watt, 91, died in Ashland on January 8, 2004. Busy and active until the last hours of her life, she had just taken a computer lesson, was working on a family genealogy and had a pot of chicken soup cooking on the stove when she suffered a stroke.
Marian Caroline Gary was born September 18, 1912 in Willamette (now West Linn), Oregon. Her father, Theodore James Gary, was the principal of Buckman School in Portland. Her mother, Marian Swanby Gary, had taught in one room schools. Marian had an older brother, Ted.
Marian attended Oregon State College (now OSU). She was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in education in 1934. After graduation, she taught high school in Canby, Salem and Portland for six years.
In 1940, Marian married
Dr. Donald Crane Prentiss. They lived in Astoria, Oregon where he was a pathologist, and had two children, Carolyn and Charles. Donald died in 1943. Marian returned to OSC the next year to earn a Master's degree in nutrition.
In 1946, Marian moved with her children and her mother to Orange County, California, where she worked for seventeen years as a Home Advisor for the University of California Agricultural Extension Service. Following that, she lived in Riverside for 3 years, traveling as Regional Coordinator for home advisors in the southern third of the state. In 1968-9 and 1972-3, she worked in San Diego and San Bernardino implementing low income nutrition programs.
In 1969, Marian married
Lawrence Archibald, who was a retired high school teacher and a grower of prize winning dahlias. They lived in Carlsbad, California until Larry's death in 1971.
In 1973, Marian married
Robert H. Watt, a retired mink rancher, and moved to his family home in Bay City, Oregon. For the next fifteen years they enjoyed traveling in their motor home, hunting, fishing and providing good food and good cheer to family and friends. While in Bay City, Marian was active in the Methodist Church, Bay City Boosters, Shakespeare Club and other community activities.
Bob died in 1988 and in 1990 Marian moved to Ashland. Always looking for a way to learn or to help others, Marian participated in many activities of the Congregational Church and AAUW, volunteered at the Shakespeare Festival and the Community Health Center, participated in Drama Dialogues and the Age Wisely, Age Well program, took bridge and cross-country ski lessons, attended SOLIR classes, became a Master Preserver and traveled widely with Elderhostel, Friendship Force and friends.
Marian had a vivid memory and was "The Keeper of the Stories." She kept track of an enormous web of family, friends and acquaintances from the many chapters of her life. She was a genealogist and family historian and was busy updating a book about the five Watt brothers of Bay City when she died.
Marian Watt is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Prentiss, son-in-law, Craig Shaw, and granddaughter, Sara Prentiss-Shaw, of Ashland; son, Charles Prentiss, daughter-in-law, Nikki Silva, grandchildren, Carlos Prentiss, Kate Prentiss, Molly Prentiss, Grace Prentiss, and Sam Scott; in-laws, Dianne Ritner Prentiss and Ellen Creighton Scott; stepchildren Lorraine Ackley, Richard Archibald, Edward Archibald, Joan Ross, Phyllis Wustenberg, Barbara Dixon, and Robert M. Watt; sister-in-law, Gene Gary; and nieces, Phyllis Gary, Gail Lembke, Beth Tomasovich, Janice Kirkland, and Roberta Taylor.
A memorial service will be held at the Congregational Church in Ashland on Sunday, February 1 at 3 p.m. Wear something purple! A celebration of Marian's life will be held June 27 at ArtSpace in Bay City, Oregon. Her ashes will be interred in the Bay City cemetery.

Melvin William Parker
Melvin William Parker, 89, was born Feb. 2, 1914, in Colby, Colorado and died Dec. 27, 2003, at his home in Jacksonville, OR. He lived in Grants Pass from 1933-1967, when he moved to Jacksonville. He had a wholesale gladioli business in Grants Pass and Jacksonville from 1934 until his death. He also had a rock quarry business.
Mr. Parker served his country during WW II.
He was a lifetime member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth of 62 1/2 years; his children, Verlene Hartwig of Zillah, WA, Nadine Proctor of Sonora, CA, Charlotte Marriott of Mulino, OR, and Sherman Parker of Jacksonville, OR; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A 21-gun salute ceremony will be held at Eagle Point National Cemetary, 2763 Riley Road (out the Diamond Lake Hwy.) on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004 at 2:30 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at the Valley View Seventh-day Adventist Church, 3677 So. Stage Rd., Medford, OR on Saturday, Jan 24, 2004, at 4 p.m.
Opal 'Moses' Shoemaker
Opal Lila "Moses" Shoemaker, 87, of Gold Hill, passed away Saturday (Jan. 17, 2004) at a local foster care. Private family services will be held. Interment will be at Memory Gardens cemetery.
She was born the daughter of Harrison and Lynn (Kitterman) Scott on April 28, 1916 in Wall, South Dakota. On Jan. 15, 2000 she married
Duane "Buz" Shoemaker, who survives.
Mrs. Shoemaker had been in the Rogue Valley since 1970 moving here from Ojai, California.
She had been a homemaker during her life. She enjoyed dancing, playing the organ and especially spending time with her family.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Sue Moses of Grants Pass; her daughter and son in law, Steve and LeeAnn Fusco of Medford, her daughter and son-in-law, Jerry and Sandra Chaves of Belen, New Mexico, her daughter- in-law, LeeAnn Moses of Gold Hill; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John James Moses in 1983, her son Maurice in 2002, and two sisters.
Otto Karl Pfahler
Otto Karl Pfahler, 77, of McMinneville, died Friday (Jan. 16, 2004) at his home.
s born on Aug. 29, 1926 in Bad Mergentheim, Germany, he immigrated to the United States in 1952 where he married
Thea Berhause in 1955. They settled in Talent, Oregon and raised three children. In 1975, the family moved to McMinnville.
He enjoyed traveling, playing cards, gardening and being outdoors rain or shine. He was blessed with a good-hearted nature, positive outlook and great sense of humor.
Otto gave much of himself, asked little in return and was respected and well liked by all.
He is survived by his wife, Thea; three sons Markus (Eileen) of New Orleans, Martin (Laura and grandson Dax) of McMinnville and Norbert (Mala) of Kalaheo, Hawaii; and four sisters.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan 23, at St James Friends Catholic Church, 1145 N. E. first Street, McMinnville. A reception will follow for family and friends at the Church.

Phillip A. Hornbrook, Jr.
A celebration of the life of Phillip A. Hornbrook, Jr. will be at 2 p.m, Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004 at 70 Lewis Street, Medford.
Mr. Hornbrook, 57, of Central Point, died Saturday (Jan. 17, 2004) in Medford.
He was born on March 5, 1946 in El Paso, Texas.
Mr. Hornbrook worked as a long haul truck driver until his retirement.
He was a avid race car fan. He enjoyed go cart racing, and spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include; his son and daughter-in-law, Phillip Hornbrook Jr, and Kim; a daughter, Julie Goodwin of Phoenix, AZ; five sisters, Betsy, Judy, Cathy, Susie, and Shelly; and seven grandchildren.
Alyce M. Fellows
Services for Alyce Mae Fellows will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Lee Saunders will officiate.
Mrs Fellows, 89, of Medford passed Friday (Jan. 16, 2004) at Providence Medical Center surrounded by close family. She was a member of the Rogue Valley Christian Church.
Alyce was born on Oct. 27, 1914 in Amherst, NE to Harry and Ina Mae (Wermuth) Owens. She grew up on a farm with two older brothers, Raymond Lawrence Owens, and Harold (Mike) Elmer Owens, and an older sister Frances Marie (Owens ) Parks.
She graduated from Amherst High School in June 1932. She went to work for the local T.B. Hospital to help support her mother after the death of her father in May 1932. She met Jerome Albert Fellows and they married
in Broken Bow, NE on Aug. 5, 1941. He preceded her in death on Jan. 16, 1988.
They moved to Medford in late 1941. Alyce worked for the SOS Packing House, Nu Way Cleaners and the Cannery before accepting a job at Osteopathic Hospital in Medford which later moved to Central Point and became Crater Osteopathic Hospital. She retired in 1980.
Alyce enjoyed gardening in the yard of her Medford home that she and her husband built together; she remained in her residence until her passing. She also enjoyed fishing.
Alyce is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Sherry and Al Hines of Medford; son and daughter-in-law Jerry and Donnie Fellows of Bonanza; son and daughter-in-law Bob and Judy Fellows of Central Point; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren with two expected soon; nieces and nephews living in Oregon, Idaho and Nebraska.
