Helena Lusanski Colby
Helena Lusanski Colby, 77, of Rogue River, died Saturday (July 19, 2003) at her home. No service is planned.
She was born May 25, 1926, in Kiev, Ukraine.
Mrs. Colby was a nurse. She moved to the Rogue Valley 12 years ago.
She enjoyed gardening and working in her yard.
Survivors include a son, Steven, Santa Clarita, Calif.; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Susan Clawson; and a son, Larry.

Agnes Lansing Werner
Agnes Lansing Werner, 104, of Medford, died Saturday (July 19, 2003) at Hearthstone. No service is planned.
She was born March 27, 1899, in Pine, to Franklin Eugene "Gene" and Mary Susan "May" (Thrasher) Lansing. She lived with her grandmother on the Blackfoot Indian Reservation in Montana and attended Indian school in Browning. In 1916, she married
Harvey Shunk. They lived in San Francisco and Los Angeles and were itinerant laborers in the fruit and vegetable farms of California, Oregon and Washington. They also worked in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, mining hard rock. After surviving the Great Depression, they invested in real estate in California. They divorced in 1930.
In the mid-1950s, she married
Walter Werner. They later divorced.
Ms. Werner moved to the Rogue Valley in 1989 from Southern California. She enjoyed big floppy hats, animals, rock hunting and traveling the West.
Survivors include a niece, Garnet Lansing Rasmussen, Eugene; five great-nieces and great-nephews; and many great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her former husbands and a brother, Walter Lee Lansing.

Mary L. ‘Bertrand’ Amundson
The memorial service for Mary L. "Bertrand" Amundson will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church in Phoenix.
Mrs. Amundson, 80, of Talent, died Saturday (June 14, 2003) at her home.

She was born July 9, 1922, in Blaine County, Neb., the daughter of Floyd and Mabel (Rodocker) Hemmerling. She graduated from Cairo High School in Nebraska. She moved to the Rogue Valley from Nebraska in 1940.
On Dec. 15, 1946, in Grants Pass, she married
Jack Bertrand, who died in 1996.
On March 27, 1999, in Phoenix, she married
Kenneth Amundson, who survives.
Mrs. Amundson was a clerical typist in the small claims department of the Jackson County District Court.
She was a deacon in the First Presbyterian Church of Phoenix, where she also sang in the choir.
She enjoyed camping, crossword puzzles and playing pinochle.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Bruce Bertrand, Coos Bay, and Gary Bertrand, Dundee; two brothers, Kenneth Hemmerling, Medford, and Gifford Hemmerling, Davis, Calif.; a sister, Laurene Hopper, Salem; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Kay Colleen Hemmerling, a grandson, Bryan, and great-granddaughter, Erika.
Willis J. ‘Chuck’ Summers
The funeral for Willis John "Chuck" Summers will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Eagle Point National cemetery.
Mr. Summers, 78, of Gold Hill, died Monday (June 9, 2003) in Gold Hill.
He was born Feb. 26, 1925, in Riverton, Iowa, to Willis John and Esther (Snipes) Summers. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1963. On Dec. 27, 1984, in Medford, he married
Bertha Mae "Terri" Littelfield, who survives.
Mr. Summers served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years during World War II and the Korean War.
He moved to the Rogue Valley after his retirement in 1963. Locally, he worked as a pipe fitter foreman for the White City VA Domiciliary from 1963 until his retirement in 1980.
He was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the American Legion.
Mr. Summers enjoyed traveling, fishing and gardening.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a stepson, Dwayne Jones, Yreka, Calif.

Harriette Jean Lavin
The memorial service for Harriette Jean Lavin will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Conger-Morris Chapel in Medford. Pastor V. Lee Gregory of the Medford Neighborhood Church will officiate.
Mrs. Lavin, 68, of Medford, died Tuesday (June 10, 2003) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

She was born July 13, 1934, in Osceola, Iowa, to Norman L. and Harriette (Switzer) Foland. On Nov. 20, 1950, in Las Vegas, she married
Thomas Lavin, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1999 from North Aurora, Ill. She had also lived in Ventura, Calif., from 1956 to 1971.
Mrs. Lavin was a homemaker and a member of the Moose Lodge. She had worked for the Moose Lodge in Batavia, Ill., for 10 years, retiring in 1999.
She enjoyed reading, going to the movies, watching TV and traveling.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Thomas Charles III and Norman, both Portland; three daughters, Jacque Kelso and Norma Lavin, both Ventura, Calif., and Margaret Gonzales, Port Hueneme, Calif.; her mother, Harriette Foland, Medford; a sister, Norma Garrison, Medford; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Lee Foland.

Virginia ‘Tiny’ West
A memorial service for Virginia "Tiny" West will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Siskiyou Memorial Park.
Mrs. West, 78, of Medford, died Thursday (June 12, 2003) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Mrs. West was born Jan. 21, 1925, in Blue Springs, Neb., to Cliff and Thelma Klusman. In September 1968 in Reno, Nev., she married
William West, who survives.
She moved to the Rogue Valley from Nebraska in 1945.
Mrs. West was a homemaker and porcelain painter. She worked for her father at his Grants Pass restaurant and later worked for Johnston Stores at Medford Poly Clean Center and at Howard Prairie Lake Resort.
She enjoyed singing and was in the Sweet Adelines in her early years. She was also a painter and was a member of the Southern Oregon Society of Porcelain Artists.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include sons James Smith, Klamath Falls, and Kenneth West, Medford; a daughter, Peggy West, Seattle; four sisters, Norma Larson, Central Point, Lucille Dutcher, Medford, Janet Klusman, Medford, and Ruth Ann Martin, Washington; brothers Bob Klusman, Canyonville, and Jim Klusman, Agnes; and one grandchild.

Edwin Sollinger
The graveside service for Edwin Sollinger will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Antioch cemetery in White City. Al D. Sollinger of Eugene will officiate.
Mr. Sollinger, 87, of White City, died Thursday (June 12, 2003) at his home.

Mr. Sollinger was born May 13, 1916, in Canyon City to Albert Edwin and Mittie A. (Wiseman) Sollinger. On Sept. 28, 1940, in Reno, Nev., he married
Bernice Fay Cormie, who died in 2002.
The Sollingers lived in the Rogue Valley for more than 50 years. He was a foreman for the Tiller-Trail sawmill.
He was a member of Central Point Masonic Lodge No. 135 and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by a son, Howard, Rogue River; a daughter, Ellen Weatherton, Gold Hill; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Marion Diane Mansir
Marion Diane Mansir 80, died Friday (June 13, 2003) at Providence Medford Medical Center.
Mrs. Mansir, of Shady Cove, was born April 22, 1923, in Waverly, N.Y., to Elmer and Madeline (Robinson) Geiss.
She has lived in the Rogue valley since 1997, moving from Southern California.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, Conrad Mansir, include a sister, Patricia McCaleb, Shady Cove; and two brothers, Earl Geiss, Merced, Calif., and Watson Geiss, Elmira, N.Y.

Ronnie Carl Jones
The memorial service for Ronnie Carl Jones will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hull & Hull Chapel in Grants Pass. Oregon State Police Lt. Dan Durbin will officiate. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at Eagle Point National cemetery.
Mr. Jones, 58, of Grants Pass, died Wednesday (June 11, 2003) at Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass.

He was born Nov. 6, 1944, in Salem. He attended Leslie Junior High and graduated from South Salem High School in 1962. On Feb. 10, 1968, he married
Clare Martin, who survives.
In 1966, Mr. Jones joined the Oregon State Police. He was stationed in Medford from 1966 to 1975 and in Roseburg from 1975 to 1980, before transferring to Grants Pass, where he retired as a lieutenant in 1994.
He served with the military police after joining the U.S. Air Force in 1962. He was stationed in England, Spain, Alaska and Nebraska.
Mr. Jones was a member of the Elks for 28 years and the Boy Scouts of America for 15 years. He was a board member with the Selective Service for four years and was involved with the Sons and Daughters of Oregon Pioneers.
He enjoyed woodworking, gunsmithing, genealogy, fishing and camping.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Christian, Vancouver, Wash., and Anthony, Corona, Calif.; and his mother, Beatrice Splichal, Rogue River. He was preceded in death by his father, Carl; and his brother, David.

Harry George Leffman
Harry George Leffman, 76, of Rogue River died Friday (June 13, 2003) at Medford Rehabilitation Center. No service is planned.
Mr. Leffman was born Jan. 16, 1927, in Oakland, Calif. He earned a master’s degree in education from Southern Oregon University.
In 1949 in Carson City, Nev., he married
Rosalie Battles, who died in 1992. They moved to the Rogue Valley from Pollock Pines, Calif., in 1969.
He served in the Merchant Marine and then the U.S. Navy, aboard the battleship Maryland in World War II.
Mr. Leffman was a teacher and principal in Josephine County schools. He liked to hunt, fish and adopt wildlife. He was a member of the Grants Pass Elks Lodge No. 1584.
He is survived by two sons, Jim, Central Point, and Harry, Visalia, Calif.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Antonia Elizabeth Enriquez
Antonia Elizabeth Enriquez, 48, of Shady Cove, died Wednesday (June 11, 2003) at her home. A private service is planned.
She was born Aug. 31, 1954, in Milwaukee, to Erwin and Rosemary (Galba) Nickel. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1984 from Park Rapids, Minn.
Ms. Enriquez was a home health aide. She enjoyed life and people.
Survivors include two daughters, Jennifer Dodge and Evelynn Enriquez; a son, Elijah Enriquez; her mother, Rosemary Nickel; three brothers, Allen and John Nickel, both in Wisconsin, and James Nickel, in Oregon; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Erv Nickel.

Ellen M. Jackson
A private service will be held for Ellen M. Jackson.
Mrs. Jackson, 73, of Medford, died Thursday (June 12, 2003) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Mrs. Jackson was born April 21, 1930, in Champaign, Ill., to Ralph and Elizabeth Jamison. She attended Champaign High School. In 1950, in Champaign, she married
Bernard G. Jackson, who died in 1999.
She had lived in the Rogue Valley since moving from Carson, Calif., in 1978. She was a waitress and homemaker.
She enjoyed arts, crafts and oil painting.
She is survived by three daughters, Cynthia K. LaChapelle, Kathy L. Conn and Christy Williams; a brother, Jerry Jamison; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
