Nadine Frances Hinkle
Sept. 8, 1938- Aug. 30, 2003 Nadine Frances Hinkle, of Waldport died Saturday (Aug. 30, 2003). She was 64.
Nadine was born in Toledo, Oregon to Jim and Mae Ross on Sept. 8, 1938. She moved to Waldport in 1954 and attended Waldport High School. She moved to Medford in 1956 where she met her husband Thad. She married
and moved back to Waldport where they lived for 46 years.
Survivors include her husband Thad, daughter and son-in-law Debi and Steve Rothermund of Corvallis, daughter Diane Johnson of Corvallis; grandsons Matthew McCreery of Salem and Jalen Rothermund of Corvallis; sisters Doris Myers of Waldport, Shirley Mariman of Homer, Alaska, Ida Manson of Albany; brothers Bob Ross of Oregon, Jim Ross of Waldport, and Chuck Ross of Wenatchee, WA, and many nieces and nephews.
She enjoyed family, woodworking, sewing, crocheting, drawing, bird watching and working in the yard.
Stephen Charles Bible
Stephen Charles Bible, 48, of Medford died (Aug. 27, 2003) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
A memorial service will be today, Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003 at 2 p.m., at 5180 Rogue River Dr., Eagle Point.

Janice Kuykendall on July 9, 1983 at Diamond Bar, CA. They moved to Medford in 1993 from Yorba Linda, CA.
He worked as a construction worker in the oil fields.
Mr. Bible enjoyed camping.
Survivors include; his wife Janice Bible of Medford; a sister, Kathleen Francis of Modesto, CA; brothers, Gary of Eagle Point, and Jeff of Corona, CA; five nieces and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Timothy Lee Poole
Timothy Lee Poole, 47, died Saturday (Aug. 30, 2003) in Butte Falls at Medco Ponds.
Mr. Poole was born on Nov. 14, 1955 in Medford, to Frances E. Poole and Areta He lived in the Rogue Valley most of his life.
Mr. Poole was a member of the Elks in Seaside. He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing Survivors include a daughter, Olivia Lynn; his father Francis E. Poole; a sister Teryl Casebier; and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by his mother.

Anne T Anderson
Anne T. Anderson, 89, of Medford, OR, died Tues. (Sept. 2, 2003) at Waterford Three Fountains. The memorial mass was held at Sacred Heart Church, officiated by Father Liam Carey, on Sept. 5.

She was born Anne Ruth Thompson in Hackensack, NJ, on Nov. 5, 1913. Anne moved to the Rogue Valley in the spring of 1986.
Anne graduated from Plattsburgh State Teachers College in 1934 and 1962. She was an English and Social Studies teacher for the 7th, 8th, and 9th grade, and retired in 1984.
She enjoyed gardening, bridge, theatre arts, and canning. She was an active member of Catholic Daughters, Providence Guild, Ginger Rogers Theatre, Legion of Mary, ADK, St. Vincent de Paul, Altar Rosary Society, and the Friendship Club in Medford.
Survivors include: sons William Anderson, and Gordon Anderson of Northern CA; daughters Anne Marie Rennells of Clovis, CA, Katherine Reinhardt of Clovis, CA, and Sarah Anderson of Medford; sisters Joan Duquette of Plattsburg, NY, and Sue Ellen Gettens of Wilmington, NY; 10 grandchildren; and 2 Great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son James Anderson, sister Marie Bellinger, and brother William Thompson.

Clarence Solenberger
The memorial service for Clarence Junior Solenberger will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at Spirit of Life Christian Center, 6475 Crater Lake Hwy., Central Point. Pastor Lenny Meyer will officiate. Inurnment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
Mr. Solenberger, 85, of Eagle Point, died Friday (Sept. 5, 2003) at his home.
He was born on Dec. 24, 1917 in McCloud, CA. On March 11, 1946 in Oakdale, CA, he married
Alma Ilene Gentry, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1949 from Colinga, CA.
Mr. Solenberger worked as a millworker for Olson-Lawyer Lumber Company for approximately 20 years.
He was a member of the Medford Church of Christ and the National Rifle Association.
Mr. Solenberger enjoyed the rodeo when he was younger.
In addition to his wife survivors include a son, Dale of Sams Valley, three daughters, Cindy Bowles of Eagle Point, Christine Lockaby and Brenda Walls both of Iowa, a sister, Ruth Irving of San Luis Obispo, CA and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother Clifford.

Edna Karina Warren Fourteen-year local resident, Edna Karina Lakari Warren, 87, passed away on July 22, 2003, after a brief illness, at Providence-St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland, OR.
Edna was born in Ishpeming, MI, on November 20, 1915, to John and Amanda (Backa) Lakari. Edna graduated from Negaunee H.S. in 1933, as a member of the National Honor Society. She married
Clifford C. Warren at the Mitchell Methodist Church rectory in Negaunee, MI, on June 23, 1937. Edna and Cliff moved from Chassell, MI, to Phoenix, OR, in 1989. Cliff died on April 19, 1992.
Edna and Cliff owned Warren's Market in Houghton, MI, from 1951-1967 and Northwood's Beagles for over 50 years. Their beagles were well-known nationally and worldwide.
Edna was a life member and former officer of the Lake Superior Beagle Club. She was a past worthy matron of the Trillium #304 Order of the Eastern Star, and was an officer of the Upper Michigan National Council of Girl Scouts in the 1950's. While residing in Chassell, Edna belonged to the Keweenaw Home Extension Study Group for 20 years. In Michigan, Edna belonged to the same sewing circle for 50 years with eight of her lifelong intimate friends. Edna was chair of numerous park events while residing at the Bear Lake Estates, in Phoenix, OR.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne & Fred Pastori of Portland, OR; three grandchildren (Penny, Gina, & Michael) and five great-grandchildren (Karina, Sierra, Jake, Kiley & Kortney; a sister, Hilda Robare of Marquette, MI; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; 12 brothers and sisters preceded Edna in death.
On July 26, 2003, Edna's family hosted a celebration of Edna's full and happy life at her Phoenix home. A brief graveside service will be held on September 20, 5 p.m. at the Negaunee cemetery, Pastor Eric Kieb, Mitchell Methodist Church, officiating. A gathering and buffet will be held directly after the service at the Country Kitchen, Ishpeming, MI.
Robert "Bob" H. Sharp
Robert "Bob" H. Sharp, 80, of Ashland, Oregon, died Wed. (Aug. 27, 2003), at his home. His memorial service will be open to the public and held at the First Presbyterian Church in Ashland on Sat., Sept. 13th at 4 p.m. Donations in his memory may be sent to: Wildlife Images, P.O. Box 36, Merlin, Oregon 97532. Please annotate your donation with the words, "Bob Sharp Memorial." Mr. Sharp is survived by three sons, Tod, of Homer, Alaska, Ric of Ashland, and Dick of Bend. Other family members include his brother Dick of Mandevile, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, in Oct. of 2001, and his son, Jeff in July of 2003.
He was born in Whiting, Indiana on March 16, 1923. He joined the Marines in Dec. of 1942, received a Purple Heart for injuries received in the Pacific Theatre, and spent nine months in the hospital recovering from those injuries.
Bob attended and graduated from the University of Michigan (1947), where he met Betty, while they were playing together in the Michigan Concert Band. They were married
56 years.
Mr. Sharp had a distinguished 30-year career in the Park Service, Bureau of Outdoor Recreation, and Forest Service following his graduation from Michigan. He was a Ranger in Yellowstone, Sequoia-King's Canyon, Yosemite and Great Smokies National Parks. His last assignment was as the Forest Supervisor of the Lake Tahoe Basin.
Bob loved nature, music, and many different sports. He was a devoted husband to Betty and a wonderful brother to Dick. He was a loving, supportive father and spent countless hours playing golf, hitting tennis balls, skiing, playing basketball, playing racquetball, throwing footballs, and catching baseballs with his sons. He also enjoyed hundreds of hours watching his grandchildren play soccer, tennis and basketball.
He will be remembered fondly for his love of people and his enthusiasm for life.
John D. Benson
The memorial service for John D. Benson will be Friday, September 5, 2003 at 2 p.m. and will be held at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park.
John D. Benson was born July 5, 1913 to John & Imogene Berry Benson in Colfax, WA. His mother died April 13, 1915 and his father remarried
in 1918 to Augusta Holmquist, who was John's second mother. His father managed general mercantile stores in Colfax, WA, Walla Walla, WA, Lewiston ID, Pendelton OR and St. John WA, before opening a men's clothing store in Spokane WA.
John attended schools in those many locations and graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane WA, where John excelled in track events, especially long distance running, and also vocal music.
John graduated in transportation and business from the University of Washington in 1937, where he again excelled in track and starred in many musical events, both on and off the U of W campus.
He was a member of Beta Sigma Psi chapter of Kappa Sigma Fraternity for 65 years. He also took courses at the University of Redlands, CA and San Bernadino, CA State College in Astronomy and Engineering.
John bought his father's clothing store business following college and sold men's wear, both retail and wholesale. In 1943 he moved to Redlands, CA where he worked as head of the research and repair department for all Army aircraft brought to Norton Air Force Base, the command field for the Southwestern United States. He was also a member of the Civil Air Patrol.
He was a licensed insurance agent with Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in both California and Oregon.
In 1947 John moved to Medford, OR with his sons.
He married
Lorraine Gleason on August 1, 1948, at the First Presbyterian Church of Medford. He was active in youth activities - scouts, White House Conference for Children and Youth, and the First Presbyterian Church activities.
He helped organize and served as secretary-treasurer of the First Presbyterian Men's Club.
He purchased a ranch near Brownsboro and spent nearly 30 years raising hay and cattle.
Since retirement, he and his wife spent winters in their home near Desert Hot Springs, CA and their summers in Oregon and Washington.
He is survived by three sons; Jim of Reno NV, Don of Santa Clarita CA and Bob of Big Bear City CA; five grandsons, Scott, Bob, Brian, Bradley and Neal; one granddaughter, Beth; one great-granddaughter; and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife Lorraine, and sisters Imogene Benson and Ruby H. Baker.
John's special interests were helping others, sailing Southern Oregon lakes, hunting and fishing, agriculture, and his family.

He was a member of Elks for more than 40 years, having been a charter member of Spokane WA lodge.

Alfred "Al" South
Al South, of Medford, OR, died Tuesday (Sept. 2, 2003) at the age of 62. A private service will be held at a later date. Al was born Sept. 16, 1940 in Grygla, MN to Eugene and Nellie (Hasbrouck) South.
Al grew up and attended schools in Ashland, OR, graduating in 1958. He received a bachelor's degree and a masters degree at Southern Oregon College, and was an instructor at Treasure Valley Community College in Ontario, OR until 2001 when he retired and moved back to the Rogue Valley.
Al enjoyed traveling, reading, golfing, and following the stock market.
Before moving to Ontario, Al married
Shirley Boswell in August of 1964, who survives him. Other survivors include; 2 sisters, Norma Veentjer of Portland and Patricia South of Ashland; nieces, Cindy, Sharon, Patricia, Mary and Deborah; nephews, John, David, Michael, Patrick, Wayne, Steven, and Douglas; also an aunt, Netta Ekstrom as well as numerous cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Nellie South, a brother Wayne South and nephews David South and Daniel Veentjer.

Barbara Jean Gourley
Barbara Jean Gourley, loving wife, mother and friend, died at home Saturday, August 30, 2003 at the age of 72, following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born September 1, 1930, in Ft. Wayne, Indiana to the late Vernon L. and Louexes H. Horstman. She was a 1948 graduate of Belding High School, Belding, Michigan. She married
William James Gourley on August 7, 1950. They were long time residents of San Bernardino, Calif. before moving to the Medford area in 1991.
Barb attended Table Rock Fellowship. She enjoyed crafting, woodworking and volunteered making baby blankets and lap robes with the Dorca's Circle/ Crochet Group, and volunteered a great amount of time at the Medford Gospel Mission.
Barbara is survived by her husband, William James Gourley Sr. of Medford; her sons, William Gourley Jr. and his wife Margaret of Medford, Larry G. Gourley and his wife Susan of Denton, TX; her daughter, Kippe K. Gourley-McNutt and husband "H" of Yuma, AZ; granddaughters, Renee, Kari, Krista and Kaycee, grandsons, Scott, William, Robert and Cody, great grandson, Nathanael, and brother Gerald Horstman and his wife Shirley of Central Point.

Charles Franklin 'Frank'
Klutsenbeker, Jr. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Frank Klutsenbeker will be Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003 at 3 p.m., at Medford Friends Church, 525 DeBarr Ave., Medford.
Mr. Klutsenbeker, age 52, died Sunday (Aug. 31, 2003) at home.

He was born on Nov. 26, 1950 in Boise, ID to Charles, Sr., and Hope Martin Klutsenbeker, who preceded him in death. Frank moved with his family to Kennewick WA in 1951 and the Rogue Valley in 1957, where he lived the remainder of his life.
He attended Central Point schools. graduating from Crater High School in 1969. In the years after high school he was a driving force in organizing activities for the Class of 1969. He was loved by his classmates and will be missed.
In 1969 he entered the U.S. Army, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. He received an honorable discharge in 1972. In the years that followed, Frank was involved in programs that reached out to help Vietnam veterans.
Frank began working for the Jackson County Roads and Parks Department in 1974, working up to the position of grader operator, which he held for many years, until his health forced him to quit working in 1998. But even though his health forced him to quit working, Frank lived life to the fullest and in spite of his physical limitations he contributed much to the lives of many people.
Frank had a life long love of cars. As a teenager, he started racing stock cars, at then Medford Speedway on Sage Road, and he continued racing up to 2002. He raced in the street stock and sportsman classes and most recently in the Old Time Hard Top class.
Through the years he built and restored a number of cars, one of which was published in Hot Rod Magazine. He often drove his restored vehicles in the Central Point Fourth of July parade and in the Medford Cruise. He was a long time member of the 55/56/57 Chevy Car Club of Medford and the Rogue Valley Hot Rod club, and was a member of the Old Time Racers Of Oregon.
Frank attended Medford Friends Church, the same church where he grew up. In recent years he served as greeter and usher. He was a big supporter of the annual camp scholarship auction and the youth and children's ministries.
Survivors include his sisters, Joyce Barton, who is living near Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany, and Cheryl LaDuke of Central Point; a brother, Kenneth Ray Klutsenbeker of Stillwater, OK. In addition to his parents, two sisters, Delores Stokes and Evelyn "Lyn" Beatty preceded him in death.

Gary Vallee Hafner
Gary Vallee Hafner, of Shady Cove, died Tues. (Sept. 2, 2003) at RVMC.
A celebration of his life will be held at his sister's home in Hillsboro, Oregon, his home town, on Sept 20, 2003. His ashes will be interred at the Veteran's National cemetery in Eagle Point Oregon.
Mr. Hafner was born January 24, 1930 in Bloomfield, Nebraska to Charles and Nona Hafner. On August 3, 1951 he married
Carolyn Johnson of Shady Cove.
Survivors include a sister, Nyla; a brother Michael; four children, Valarie, Greg, Beverlie, Jeff; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly Ann and a brother, Darol.
Mr Hafner was an active member of the Hillsboro Elks for over 20 years. He was a Navy Veteran serving from 1948 to 1952.
He loved all the wild critters around his house, especially the deer.
