Geraldine F. Tiedy
The memorial service for Geraldine F. Tiedy will be at 10 a.m. Sat., Sept. 20, 2003 at Hillcrest Mortuary. Dr. Roger Compton of Eastwood Baptist will officiate. Graveside commital will follow.
Mrs. Tiedy, 88, of Medford died Tues. (Sept. 16, 2003).

She was born on March 20, 1915 in Richland, PA, a daughter of Grover and Adda Garris. She moved to Rogue Valley over 16 years ago from Gardena, CA.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, and being around her family.
Survivors include: 3 sons, John D. Tiedy, and Owen Tiedy of Medford, and Richard Tiedy of Camarillo, CA; 1 daughter, Frances Pashby of Cedar Falls, IA; 2 sisters, Jean Kerr of Dallas, TX, and Helen Branthoover of Emlenton, PA; and 31 grandchildren. preceded in death by her husband, John G. Tiedy in Nov. 1999 and brother Ira Garris.

Howard G. Rising
Howard G. Rising died with dignity on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, in Medford. He was born to Roy and Grace Rising in Grafton, Ohio on April 29, 1919. He married
Freda C. Loll in Elyria, Ohio on May 28, 1949. Mrs. Rising preceded him in death on Oct. 25, 2002.
Mr. Rising served in the Air Corps during WW II. Most of his service was in India, building aircraft hangers.
He joined the Ohio Division of Milford Rivet and Machine Company in Ohio in 1953. The family moved to Anaheim, CA when he was transferred as Superintendent to the Pacific Division in Fullerton, CA in 1955, and remained with the company until 1962. He then worked for Townsend Company and Cherry Rivet for short periods of time until moving to Medford in August of 1966. Until his retirement, Mr. Rising worked in auto body repair, owning Ashland Auto Body and then working from his shop at home on Coleman Creek Road.
Mr. Rising was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1833, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie 2093, and was a Master Mason of the Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of Ohio.
He enjoyed cars, motorcycles, dancing and reading.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Rising was preceded in death by his brothers, Leon and Orville Rising; his sisters Marian Reisinger, and Dorothy Kolbe. The whereabouts of his half sisters Doris Weiland and Arlene Stone are unknown.
Mr. Rising is survived by his son, Glenn Howard Rising, his wife Linda, their three sons, Jeff, Tim and Matt Rising, and their children, all of Ohio; his daughter, Judy Livingood, her husband Don, their daughters, Wendi Manske and Jill Ginther, and Wendi's children, Tarren, Teanna, and David Engberg, all of Southern Oregon.
Memorial services will be held at Eagle Point National cemetery on Monday, Sept. 22, at 1 p.m. A celebration of life will be held following the service at the home of Don and Judy Livingood, 6311 Hillcrest Road, Medford.

Leo Trautman
Leo H. Trautman, 75, of Central Point, died Sept. 17, 2003, at his home. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, 2003, at the Bethel Assembly of God Church, Medford. Pastor Tim Olson will officiate. Entombment will be at the Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum, Medford.
The visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Conger-Morris Central Point Chapel.

Mr. Trautman was born July 9, 1928, in Herrick, S.D., the son of Herbert and Julia (Hamer) Trautman. He has lived in Oregon since he was 6 years old.
He was married
to Jamie Perkins who died in 1992, he then married
Rama Varner, July 1993 in Reno, NV. Leo served in the U.S. Navy from 1945- 1949, during WWII.
Leo was a planer supervisor for over 30 years at Boise Cascade.
He attended the Bethel Assembly of God Church.
He is survived by his wife Rama; his daughter, De Ann Mixx of Calif.; brothers, Kenneth of Eagle Point, Milo of Central Point, Herbert Jr. of Montana; sisters, Ortha Reich of Grants Pass, Margaret Bell of Merced, CA, and Nita of Tawakoi, CA; grandchildren, Marci Halpern, Michelle Varner, Nikki Mendoza, Stacey Weisgerber, all of CA, Travis and Jason Wallis of Portland, OR; and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son David in 1976.

Velma Irene Rogers
A memorial service for Velma Irene Rogers will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Bend, assisted by the Redmond Chapter No. 10-9 OES.
Mrs. Rogers, of Bend, (formerly of Medford) died from congestive heart failure, Thursday (Sept. 11, 2003) at Hospice House in Bend. She had just celebrated her 85th birthday with over 100 friends and relatives at Bend Villa Court where she had resided for the past seven years.
She was born on Aug. 21, 1918 in Montague CA to Parks R Shelly and Ethel Sara (Miller) Randles. She married
Lucius O. Rogers on July 10, 1938. They shared 61 years of marriage until his death in 1999. They lived near Prospect and moved to Bend when they retired in 1978.
She was an active community member instrumental in founding the Rogue River Medical Clinic, the Episcopal Church in Prospect, Eastern Star and Jobs Daughters in Shady Cove and the Prospect Library. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, AARP and a 63 year member of the Order of Eastern Star.
She loved her family and friends, the order of Eastern Star, cross word puzzles and bridge.
Survivors include four children, Suzanne E Teague (Lee) of Montrose, CO., John S. Rogers (Sharie) of Sisters, OR, James A. Rogers (Mary) of Hartlepool, England and George O. Rogers (Deborah) of College Station, TX.; a sister, Martha Donahue Kreiger of Vancouver, WA; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother, Parks Richmond Shelly, two sisters, Verna R. Shelley Webb, and Kathryn E. Shelley Allen Keller.

Johanna 'Hanna' Pence
Feb. 22, 1918- Aug. 27, 2003 Johanna "Hanna" Marie Pence died in Troutdale, OR, Wed., Aug. 27, 2003. She was 85.
Services were held on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003 at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Interment followed there.
Mrs. Pence was born on Feb. 22, 1918 in Lincoln, MT to William and Carolina (Johnson-Paulson) Kreier. She came west to Vancouver, WA on the Oregon Trail in a covered wagon. She later moved to Medford.
She married
Lester Sproul in Battleground, WA. He preceded her in death. She later married
Noel Pence in Medford, he also preceded her in death.
She worked for many years as a cook at the Highway Club and Pioneer Club.
Mrs. Pence enjoyed cooking and knitting.
Survivors include her sons: Leonard Sproul of Homeland, CA, Bob Sproul of Coos Bay, Richard Sproul of Central Point, and Clarence Sproul of Paris, CA; twenty grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husbands she was preceded in death by a son, Duane, five brothers and one sister.

John Arthur Russell
A graveside service for John Arthur Russell will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at Eagle Point National cemetery.
Mr. Russell, 53, of Medford, died Saturday (Aug. 30, 2003) at Linda Vista Care Center.
He was born on Jan. 12, 1950 in Virginia. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1977.
Mr. Russell served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam.
He enjoyed working on cars.
Survivors include: his significant other Linda (Peaches) Millard; 2 sons and a daughter, John of Medford, Robert and twin sister Felicia, both of Oakley, Calif; his parents, Jane and Avery Russell of Alexandria, AL; three brothers, Mark of Medford, Paul of Atlanta, GA. and Tommy of Redding, CA; a sister, Kathy of Irvine, CA; and 1 grandchild, John Dylan.

Lorraine Russell Smith
The funeral for Lorraine Russell Smith will be at 11 a.m. Friday (Sept. 5, 2003) at Hillcrest Chapel, 2201 N. Phoenix Rd., Medford, with committal services following at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pastor Tim Shields, of Rogue Valley Christian Church will officiate.
Mrs. Smith, 81, of Lakeview, formerly of Central Point, died Sunday (Aug. 31, 2003) in Lakeview.

She was born on Feb. 9, 1922 in Medford to Edward Allen and Lorraine Jane (Drake) Russell. She grew up in Klamath Falls, Ashland, and Gold Hill. She graduated from Gold Hill High School.
On July 30, 1943 in San Antonio, Texas she married
Ray E. Smith, of Gold Hill, while he was on active duty with the U.S. Army. He survives.
Mrs. Smith worked in the office at Bear Creek Corp. and retired after 25 years of service.
She was an active member of the Rogue Valley Christian Church.
Mrs. Smith enjoyed camping in the Aspens, gardening, cooking for family and friends, and sewing.
In addition to her husband, survivors include; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Evelyn Smith of Troutdale, OR, David and Deanna Smith of Paisley, OR, and Joel Smith of Healdsburg, CA; a brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Mary Russell of Coquille, OR; a sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Ed Moon, of Myrtle Point, OR; a brother-in-law Harry Hanscom, of Eagle Point; four granddaughters, Emily Smith of Troutdale, OR, Rita Stearns of Springfield, OR, Jennifer Gladwill of Reno, NV, and Janet Smith of Lakeview, OR; one grandson, Eric Smith, of Healdsburg, CA. and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Russell E. Smith, in 1990 and a sister, Wilma Hanscom, in 1999.

Ralph F. Dalessio, Jr.
Ralph F. Dalessio, Jr. of Eagle Point, born in 1937, in Honolulu, HI died Tuesday (Aug. 26, 2003).
A service will be at 3 p.m. today at Perl Funeral Home, Medford Ralph touched everyone he met with his giving heart and great sense of humor. As the owner of Do All Plus Builders, he is known for his artistic touch and passion for his work.
Survived by three sons, Ronald F. Dalessio, Richard and his wife Michelle, Ralph and his wife Robin; two daughters, Michelle T. Dalessio, and Victoria Feroni and her husband Kim; three sisters, Patricia Salvador, Adeline Souza and her husband Sonny, and Joanne Martin; a brother Ronald Dalessio; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Donna Kay DeVore
Donna Kay DeVore, 46, of Medford died Wednesday (Aug. 27, 2003) at her home.
Mrs. DeVore was born on June 29, 1957 in Alexandria, LA. She moved to the Rogue Valley 31/2 years ago.
She attended DeWitt High School and the Universtiy of Arkansas of Monticello.
She worked as a Registered Nurse.
Survivors include a son Joseph Funderburk, Athens, Ark.; a daughter, Christina Knowles of Columbia, TN; a brother Donald David DeVore of Little Rock, Ark.; a sister Sandra M. Thompson of West Memphis, Ark.; and 2 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father William Jackson DeVore and her mother Delores Kay DeVore.

Florence M. Summerfield
The funeral for Florence Marie Summerfield will be at 1 p.m. Friday, at Memory Gardens Mortuary Chapel. A graveside service will follow in Memory Gardens Memorial Park. Pastor Dan Betteta of First Presbyterian Church of Central Point will officiate.
Mrs. Summerfield 88, of Central Point died Saturday (Aug. 30, 2003) at Providence Medical Center.

She was born Florence Marie McKay on March 31, 1915, in Barnes Co., ND. She was one of nine children, who all have preceded her in death.
On Aug. 15, 1935 in Jamestown, ND she married
John Summerfield, who preceded her in death in 1999. She lived in the Rogue Valley since 1949.
Mrs. Summerfield cooked for COPCO.
She was a member of the Women of the Moose since 1945, and held the position of Senior Regent of the Moose Lodge in Medford at one time, Mrs. Summerfield enjoyed hunting, sewing and spending time with her family.
Survivors include; a son Darryl Summerfield of Central Point; two grandchildren, Staci and Sara; and 8 great-grandchildren; also, three step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Kay Summerfield, and a grandson, Eric Summerfield.
Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.
A reception will follow the funeral service at the Moose Lodge.
Geraldine V. Nelson
Geraldine V. Nelson, 74, of Medford died Friday (Aug. 29, 2003) at her home. Private services will be held.
She was born Geraldine V. Walroth on Aug. 22, 1929 at Lincoln NE.
Mrs. Nelson graduated from UCLA as a Physical Therapist.
She married
Charles J. Nelson on Aug. 8, 1953 in Los Angeles. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1996, after she retired as a Physical Therapist from Westminster.
She enjoyed painting with oils and water colors, gardening, music and theater.
Survivors include her daughters, Rhonda Lynn Walters of Walla Walla, WA, and Lori Kim Nelson-Steidel of Corona, CA; a son Karl D. Nelson of Medford; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother and one sister.

Marion S. Adams
Mrs. Adams, 85, of Medford, died Monday (Aug. 25. 2003).
Marion was born on Oct. 9, 1917 in Hill City, Minnesota. She moved to San Diego, CA while in her early 20's. She married
in San Diego, and raised three children there.
She worked for General Dynamics in the aerospace industry.
Mrs. Adams was a long time member of the Zoological Society of San Diego, and continued her membership after her husband Joseph died. After her husband's death she moved to Medford to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Don Riegger.
She was especially interested in the endangered species program at the San Diego Zoo.
