Dale Allen Bray
The memorial service for Dale Allen Bray will be at 11 a.m. April 12 at the Elma Eagles Club, in Elma, Wash.
Mr. Bray, 65, of Elma, Wash., formerly of Eagle Point, died March 20, 2003, at Evergreen Centralia Health and Rehabilitation Center in Centralia, Wash.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Elma Eagles Club Funeral Fund, 404 W. Young St., Elma, WA 98541.
He was born Aug. 29, 1937, in Hoquiam, Wash., to Everett Allen and Angeline Marie (Zuvich) Bray. He attended Oakville High School in Oakville, Wash.
Mr. Bray worked for Roseburg Lumber in Roseburg. He lived in Eagle Point from 1974 to 1983.
He served in the U.S. Army Infantry from 1956 to 1959.
Mr. Bray was a member of the Elma Eagles, Elma and Shelton granges in Washington and 4-H.
He enjoyed cooking, gardening, hunting and fishing.
Survivors include a son, Ben, of Elma; a daughter, Sherrie Bray-Bunch, of Elma; three brothers, Paul, of Townsend, Mont., Lester, of Cordova, Alaska, and Wayne, of Elma; two sisters, Verlene "Deede" Morrison, of Shelton, Wash., and Mary "Micky" Crick, of Peshastin, Wash.; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Kathryn Davis.

Pauline M. Palmer
Pauline M. Palmer, 77, of Grants Pass, died Thursday (March 27, 2003) at Three Rivers Community Hospital. A private service was held.

She was born Pauline M. Caulkins on April 9, 1925, in Pontiac, Mich. On Oct. 13, 1945, in Ithaca, N.Y., she married
Charles H. Palmer, who survives. They moved to Grants Pass in 1997 from Junction City.
Mrs. Palmer was a homemaker.
She was active in her children’s school PTA in Somerdale, N.J., and was a member of Take Off Pounds Sensibly in Eugene.
Mrs. Palmer enjoyed counted cross stitching as well as a variety of crafts. She was an avid reader and enjoyed watching soap operas.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Nancy Schmidt, Grants Pass; a son, Ted, Eugene; a brother, Keith Johnson, Zempherville, Fla.; two sisters, Marie Wilson, Geneva, N.Y., and Helen Caulkins, Ann Arbor, Mich.; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.

Ellen Josephine Casper
Ellen Josephine Casper, 84, of Medford, died Friday (March 28, 2003) at Rogue Valley Manor Health Center. A private service will be held.

She was born Ellen Josephine Frederick on Jan. 3, 1919, in Harrisburg, Ill. In 1939, in Paris, Tenn., she married
F. Don Casper, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1990 from Portland.
Mrs. Casper was a homemaker for most of her life. She worked for a time in the comptroller’s office at the Chicago Towers Club in Chicago, and for the Better Business Bureau in Cincinnati.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Medford.
Mrs. Casper enjoyed sports and playing card games, especially bridge.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Richard, Vancouver, Wash.

Maria S. ‘Mary’ Mongold
Maria Santina "Mary" Mongold, 87, of Klamath Falls, formerly of Eagle Point, died Monday (March 24, 2003) at Pelican Pointe Assisted Living Community. A private memorial service will be held in Coos Bay at a later date.

She was born Nov. 1, 1915, in Hartford, Ark., to Italian immigrants Albert and Egidia (Sachet) Menegat. She graduated from Lakeside High School in Coos Bay in 1933. On April 14, 1934, in Marshfield (Coos Bay), she married
William Delbert Mongold, who died in 1984. She lived in Eagle Point from 1934 to 1964.
Mrs. Mongold was a homemaker and a secretary for Muth-Larsen Insurance Agency in Coos Bay, retiring in 1970.
She was a member of Greenacres Grange, Friends of the South Slough Reserve, Coos Head Garden Club and the Rebekah Lodge.
Mrs. Mongold enjoyed baking pies for family and friends, feeding birds, and watching the ships enter and leave Charleston Harbor.
Survivors include a daughter, Sally Bailo, Klamath Falls; two brothers, Rolando Menegat, North Bend, and Joseph Eugene Bosco, Myrtle Point; a sister, Eleanor Rice, Coos Bay; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence R. Mongold; and a brother, John Menegat.

James Raymond Prevo
The graveside service for James Raymond Prevo will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford.
Mr. Prevo, 72, of Medford, died March 20, 2003, at Providence Medford Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 11, 1930, in Arizona.
Mr. Prevo was a laborer at several mills in the Rogue Valley. He lived in the Rogue Valley most of his life.
He enjoyed walking and traveling.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Judy Rupp, Lois Prevo and Joan Kounz.

Robert Lee Stanley
The memorial service for Robert Lee Stanley will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Eagle Point National cemetery.
Mr. Stanley, 65, of Jacksonville, died Thursday (March 27, 2003) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 28, 1937, in Pillager, Minn., to Otis and Blanche Stanley. On April 21, 1961, in Escondido, Calif., he married
Valerie Dianne Seckinger, who survives. They moved to Ashland from Escondido in 1973, and lived there for 21 years before moving to Jacksonville.
Mr. Stanley was the manager at Royal Mobile Estates in Jacksonville.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1960.
Mr. Stanley enjoyed golf.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Anthony, Gig Harbor, Wash., and Robert Scott, Phoenix, Ariz.; three daughters, Rebecca Guidici, Applegate, Kristen Meyer, Ashland, and Kari Stanley, Oceanside, Calif.; three sisters, Bernice Johnson, in Minnesota, Joyce Egan, Long Beach, Wash., and Doris Downs, Poway, Calif.; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Dorothy E. Smith-Saunders
The memorial service for Dorothy Ellen Smith-Saunders will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland. The Rev. Carroll Cline of Ashland will officiate.
Mrs. Smith-Saunders, 90, formerly of Ashland, died Tuesday (March 25, 2003) at her home in Medford.
She was born May 25, 1912, in Stidham, Okla., to William Jackson Key and Birdie Sinor. On June 14, 1930, at Altus, Okla., she married
Carl "Buck" Smith, who died in 1963. She came to the Rogue Valley in 1940 from Ratone, N.M. On Nov. 20, 2001, she married
Sy Saunders, who survives.
Mrs. Smith-Saunders was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She enjoyed fishing, sewing, gardening and cooking.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia J. Smith, Medford; a son, Bobby D. Smith, Lacey, Wash.; a brother, Clarence J. Key, Houston; two sisters, Estell Tiger, Wetumka, Okla., and Ozella Aiken, Pleasanton, Calif.; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four children, one grandchild and one brother.

W.H. ‘Hal’ Ulery
The funeral for W.H. "Hal" Ulery will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Perl Funeral Home Chapel, Medford.
Mr. Ulery, 81, of Medford, died Wednesday (March 26, 2003) at Medford Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.

He was born May 8, 1921, in Denver, Colo., to William and Emma Ulery.
He graduated from Whittier High School in 1939, and earned a bachelor’s degree from University of California Santa Barbara, a master’s in education administration and a doctorate in education administration from University of Southern California.
Mr. Ulery served in the U.S. Navy as a pilot in World War II on the carrier Midway. He was also an instrument instructor. He continued to serve in the Naval Air Reserves, retiring in 1968 with the rank of lieutenant commander.
He served in public education for 20 years, first as a teacher, then retiring as superintendent of public schools in Goleta, Calif., in 1969. From 1970 to 1980, he owned a vocational rehabilitation business with 12 offices in California. He then became an expert witness in vocational rehabilitation court cases, retiring in 1995.
He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, camping, and flying airplanes.
Survivors include five children, Kathleen A. Sackett, Medford, Robert Reed Ulery, Portland, William Michael Ulery, Park City, Utah, Leland Ulery, Knightdale, N.C., and Barbara Bailey, Weyers Cave, Va.; a sister, Dorothy Scott, Sacramento, Calif.; a brother, Donald Ulery, Sonora, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth, and three sisters, Florence, Lucille and Patricia.

Robert ‘Bob’ W. Simonin
Robert "Bob" Wayne Simonin, 74, of Medford, died Thursday (March 27, 2003) at his home after a bout with cancer. No service is planned.

He was born July 30, 1928, in Rensselaer, Ind., one of 12 children of Sherman and Jessie (Dennison) Simonin. On Feb. 12, 1954, in Rensselaer, he married
Marlene Dunn, who survives. They moved to Oregon from Indiana in 1962.
Mr. Simonin was a self-employed builder.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953.
Mr. Simonin was an avid Harley-Davidson rider for more than 50 years. He enjoyed reading Louis L’Amour books and spending time with his friends.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Greg, Roseville, Calif.; a daughter, Ann Simonin-Jordan, Medford; a brother, Donald, Rensselaer; three sisters, Fern Peacock and Esther Ropp, both Rensselaer, and Pauline Bailey, Fennimore, Wis.; and three grandchildren.

George H. Brooks Jr.
No service is planned for George H. Brooks Jr., 49, of Medford, who died Thursday (March 27, 2003) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Mr. Brooks was born April 18, 1953, in Watsonville, Calif., to George H. and Hariet Ann (Lindburg) Brooks of Medford.
On Oct. 13, 1990, he married
Katherine Ella, who survives.
He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1991 from Watsonville.
He was head mechanic for 10 years at Sabroso Co. in Medford and enjoyed bowling and golf. He was a member of the Rogue Valley Christian Fellowship.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Cody Brooks, Medford, and Travis Brooks, Salinas, Calif.; one daughter, Tiffany Brooks, Brookings; and three sisters, Pamela Mayfield, Christy Robustelli and Penny Fuller, all of Medford.

Loretta Adrienne Jones
A vigil and rosary for Loretta Adrienne Jones is planned from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Perl Funeral Home chapel. A funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with a reception following.
Burial will be at Riverside cemetery, Eastend, Saskatchewan.
Mrs. Jones, 86, of Medford, died Wednesday (March 26, 2003) at her home.

She was born Feb. 12, 1917, in Eastend, where her parents had homesteaded from Quebec. In 1946, she moved to Los Angeles to marry Owen Lewis Jones, who died in 1961. In 1976, she moved to Phoenix. She lost her home in the ’97 flood and moved to Medford.
Mrs. Jones worked at Healthway Health Foods until she retired in 1980. She volunteered for St. Vincent de Paul. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, crafts, reading and spending time with her family. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Caryn Whatley, Medford; a son, Jerry Jones, Cary, N.C.; a sister, Madeliene Brown, Fullerton, Calif.; four brothers, Lucien Breton, Medicine Hat, Alberta, Robert Breton, Kelowna, B.C., Richard Breton, Vancouver B.C., and Ray Breton, Buck Lake, Alberta; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
