Fred Speer Jr.
Fred Speer Jr., 79, of Central Point, died Wednesday (March 12, 2003) at his home. No service is planned.

He was born Oct. 1, 1923, in North Platte, Neb. On March 24, 1947, in Weiser, Idaho, he married
Joyce M. Thorning, who died in 1986. They moved to Klamath Falls in 1948, from Emmett, Idaho, and to the Rogue Valley in 1972 from Klamath Falls.
Mr. Speer was an ornithologist. He conducted bird studies for the Bureau of Land Management, Nature Conservancy, and the Institute for Cultural Ecology of the Tropics.
He served in the Merchant Marine during World War II.
Mr. Speer enjoyed bird watching, woodcarving, traveling and history, especially the Civil War and World War II.
Survivors include a daughter, Christi Kelley, Phoenix; his longtime companion, Judy Gerlock, Medford; and a sister, Viola King, Boise, Idaho. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald.

Alice ‘Jeane’ Loe
Alice "Jeane" Loe, 85, of Grants Pass, died Thursday (March 13, 2003) at Three Rivers Community Hospital. No service is planned.
She was born Jan. 8, 1918, in Pittsburgh. On Nov. 21, 1942, in Boston, she married
Clarence John Loe, who died in 1995. She moved to Medford 23 years ago from California. She moved to Grants Pass five years ago.
Survivors include three daughters, Inga Sutherland, Pleasant Grove, Utah, Jeane Sanderson, Grants Pass, and Karen Carlson, Milwaukie; a sister, Marjorie Thompson, Rocklin, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Eunice Christine Henson
The memorial service for Eunice Christine Henson will be at 1 p.m. today at Conger-Morris Chapel in Medford. Interment will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo, Calif.
Mrs. Henson, 82 of Medford, died Friday (March 28, 2003) at her home.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Jean Myers, Medford; and a sister, Vontice B. Larson, Bellingham, Wash.

Glee Sharleen O’Rourke

Wesley Howard

Mr. Howard, 87, of Medford, died March 16, 2003, in Medford.
He was born Feb. 24, 1916, in Medford, to Roy and Dora (Lawrence) Howard, and was a lifelong Rogue Valley resident.

Jetta Alma Debo
A celebration of the life of Jetta Alma Debo will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at her home. The Rev. David Schiferl of Sacred Heart Catholic Church will officiate. Inurnment will be at Forest Lawn Covina Hills, Covina, Calif.
Mrs. Debo, 79, of Medford, died Saturday (March 29, 2003) at her son’s home.

She was born Sept. 2, 1923, in Monrovia, Calif., to Joseph and Alma Carlin. On Nov. 22, 1941, in Los Angeles, she married
Charles I. Debo, who died in 1986. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1990 from West Covina, Calif.
Mrs. Debo was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and served as a eucharistic minister, providing communion and support.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed family activities and gardening.
Survivors include four sons, James A. and Timothy L., both Medford, and Charles W. and David M., both Applegate; two brothers, Joseph Y. Carlin, Placerville, Calif., and James F. Carlin, Lake Havasu, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Patrick Carlin.

Patricia Jeanne Warner
A gathering of the family and friends of Patricia Jeanne Warner will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Butler Band Shell in Lithia Park.
Mrs. Warner, 73, longtime Ashland resident, died Sunday (March 30, 2003) at Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford.

She was born April 1, 1929, in Minneapolis, to L.M. "Red" and Stella (Sare) Malsed. She was educated in Minneapolis and Southern California. She received a real estate license and a broker’s license, and was a member of the Ashland Realtors Board.
Mrs. Warner worked in the real estate business for 20 years, and recently became a principal broker with her own brokerage, Pat Warner Realty.
She was active in Ashland schools and was a past PTA president, Cub Scout den leader, Campfire leader and chairperson of several high school senior all-night parties. She was active in community affairs, including the American Cancer Society, Dunn House and Meals on Wheels and was past president of Harvest Built Homes.
Mrs. Warner enjoyed life, her family, friends and clients, reading and gardening, especially growing orchids.
Survivors include her husband, Bob, Ashland; three children, Mathew, Redding, Calif., Erik, Medford, and Stacey, Talent; a brother, Joe Malsed, Coarse Gold, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

Dorothy Alice Keller

Mrs. Keller, 77, of Medford, died Thursday (March 27, 2003) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

She was born March 15, 1926, in La Habra, Calif., to Welcome and Mabel Pyle. On July 3, 1953, in Roseburg, she married
Jack Keller, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley two years ago from Cottage Grove.
Mrs. Keller was a homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with her children and family, nature, birds and gardens.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Casey Keller, Redding, Calif., and Michael Hoff, Eugene; two daughters, Melinda McClure, Phoenix, and Peggy Bitney, Medford; a brother, William Pyle, Roseburg; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Kenneth Clifton Poore
The memorial service for Kenneth Clifton Poore will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park.
Mr. Poore, 78, of Medford, died Friday (March 28, 2003) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

He was born April 9, 1924, in Kennewick, Wash., to Franklin Clifford and Harriet Atkins Poore. He graduated from Kennewick High School in 1942, and from Oregon State University in Eugene in 1952.
On March 2, 1947, in Vancouver, Wash., he married
Helen Opal Haley, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1979 from Beaverton.
Mr. Poore owned and operated A-1 Tree Spraying and Pest Control.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army 28th Infantry Regiment, Combat Infantry, attaining the rank of corporal. He was a prisoner of war after being captured in northern France.
Mr. Poore was a member of the Rogue Valley Country Club.
He enjoyed reading, golfing, antiquing and traveling to visit family.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Marilyn Knecht, Eugene, and Nancy Margulies, Portland; a sister, Lorraine Sutton, Seattle; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Diane Linda Barlow
The memorial service for Diane Linda Barlow will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Phoenix Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Patricia Vanvertol will officiate.
Mrs. Barlow, 55, of Medford, died Friday (March 28, 2003) at her home.

She was born April 25, 1947, in The Dalles, to Leonard Wade and Muriel Lois (Morse) Watkins. She grew up in The Dalles and graduated from The Dalles High School in 1965. She received a degree in education in 1969 from what is now Southern Oregon University. On Sept. 19, 1970, in Salem, she married
David Olen Barlow, who survives.
Mrs. Barlow was an elementary school teacher for 33 years. She taught school in Salem, Oregon City and Central Point for 29 years. She was well-known for being a teacher’s teacher and developed many new and innovative teaching methods.
She was a member of several education associations.
Mrs. Barlow enjoyed collecting antiques, shopping for bargains, world travel, and traveling in the family’s motor home and trail riding in the desert in their jeep.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Dorian, Portland; a daughter, Katarina "Katie, " Medford; her parents Leonard and Muriel Watkins, Salem; a sister, Janet, Gates; and one grandchild.

Benjamin ‘Kip’ Lombard Jr.
Rosary will be recited for Benjamin "Kip" Lombard Jr. at 1 p.m. Saturday at Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church in Ashland. The funeral Mass will follow at 1:30 p.m.
Mr. Lombard, 62, of Ashland, died Thursday (March 27, 2003) at his home.

He was born Sept. 2, 1940, in Seattle to Benjamin Tongue Lombard and Jessie Craig Smith. Soon after his birth, the family moved to Portland, where his father was stationed during World War II. After the war, the family moved to Ashland, where his father was a practicing attorney.
Mr. Lombard attended Ashland schools and graduated from Ashland High School in 1958. He attended the University of Oregon and graduated cum laude in 1962 as a member of the first class of the University of Oregon Honors College. He graduated from the University of Michigan Law School in 1965. He was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity and the Friars honorary at the University of Oregon.
In 1967, Mr. Lombard began practicing law with the Portland firm of Mautz, Souther, Spaulding, Kinsey, Williamson & Schwabe (now Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt). In 1970, in Portland, he married
Bernadette Ann Verschingel, who survives. He returned to Ashland in 1972 to raise his family and to practice law.
Mr. Lombard was elected to serve as a state representative from District 52 in the Oregon House of Representatives, and served from 1977 to 1985, representing parts of Klamath County (until 1981) and Jackson County. He retired from the Legislature in 1985 to devote more time to his law practice and his family.
In 1985 he began concentrating his law practice on water law and estate planning, and became one of Oregon’s premier water rights lawyers, representing many water rights clients throughout the state. He was a frequent writer and speaker at conferences on water law. Between 1985 and 1999, he lobbied for agricultural water interest, representing the Oregon Water Resources Congress before the state legislature.
At the time of his death, Mr. Lombard was vice-chair of the American Bar Association Water Committee and was co-chair of the planning committee for the 2003 Annual Water Law Conference in San Diego. He was a member of the American, Oregon and Jackson County bar associations.
Over the years he served on many public boards and commissions, including the Jackson County Education Service Board, Rogue Valley Medical Center Board of Trustees, Boy Scouts of America Executive Board, Oregon Shakespeare Festival Association Board of Directors, Kiwanis, Oregon Water Trust, Southern Oregon University Regional Advisory Council, and the Ashland Chamber Board of Directors.
Mr. Lombard enjoyed fishing, golfing, reading and hiking, especially in the company of family and friends. He was proud of the fact that he and all three of his sons attained the rank of Eagle Scout.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of 33 years, include three sons, Christopher, Ian and Russell; and one grandson.

Ronald Eugene Bland
Ronald Eugene Bland, 74, of Medford, died Friday (March 28, 2003) at his home. No service is planned. His remains will be scattered over the Pacific Ocean.
He was born Nov. 10, 1928, in Templeton, Calif., to George and Bernice (Laing) Bland. He graduated from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, Calif. On Sept. 10, 1955, in North Hollywood, Calif., he married
Mary Jane Lucas, who preceded him in death. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1990 from Orange, Calif.
Mr. Bland was a computer programmer and manager for McDonnell-Douglas in Huntington Beach, Calif. He also owned Bland’s Photo in Santa Ana and Garden Grove, Calif., for 14 years. After moving to Oregon, he owned a wooden toy manufacturing business in Ashland. He sold the business in 2001.
He served as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1955, achieving the rank of 1st lieutenant.
Survivors include a daughter, Kim Bland, Medford; two sisters; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son.

David E. Craigie
David E. Craigie, 67, of Ashland, died Thursday (March 27, 2003) at Hearthstone. No service is planned.
He was born Oct. 13, 1935, in Toronto, Canada, to Alec and Gwen Craigie. On March 22, 1975, in Arcata, Calif., he married
Jan Chegwidden, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley 12 years ago from Arcata, Calif.
Mr. Craigie was a professor at Humboldt State College, retiring in 1990.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Andrew, Pomeroy, Wash., and Cameron, Olympia, Wash.; a daughter, Shellah Garrett, Verdugo City, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Marti Chegwidden, Chico, Calif.; a stepson, Tom Chegwidden, Eureka, Calif.; a sister, Faith Ebert, in Pennsylvania; and five grandchildren.
