Robertson E. Collins
Robertson "Robby" E. Collins, 81, of Singapore, formerly of Jacksonville, died Friday (May 23, 2003).

Services were held in Singapore Saturday for friends, and the family held a private gathering in Jacksonville. There will be a broader celebration of his life in mid-August in Jacksonville.

The family is setting up a Robertson Collins Memorial Fund that will focus on historic preservation in Jacksonville.

He was born Sept. 28, 1921, in Riverside, Calif., to Joseph E. and Charlotte R. Collins.

Collins grew up in California and graduated from Stanford University. He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II.

He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1948, and he and his brother, Edward H. Collins, owned and operated Mount Pitt Co., and Loading Service Co., both in Central Point.

He moved to Jacksonville in 1962 and spearheaded opposition to a four-lane highway intersecting town and was instrumental in Jacksonville’s National Historic Landmark designation.

He was vice chairman of National Trust for Historic Preservation and served on many boards, including the Southern Oregon Historical Society and the Historic Preservation League of Oregon, and was the past president of Oregon Shakespeare Festival.

In 1980, he received the University of Oregon’s Distinguished Service Award as a leader in the preservation of Jacksonville and in 1983 received the Distinguished Preservationist Award from the governor. He was a member of the International Council on Monuments and Sites and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and was a teacher and consultant on historic preservation in Singapore, Australia, Thailand, Fiji, the Philippines, New Zealand, China, Nepal, Hungary and other countries.

He was author of a book titled "A Disorderly Excursion".

He is survived by his brother Edward, Medford.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Janet Stark of New York and Connecticut and Charlotte Maddux, who lived around the world and died in Texas.

Mareta Reynolds Train
The graveside service for Mareta Reynolds Train will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Glenhaven Garden, Medford. Chaplain Paul Hagedorn of Jacksonville will officiate. There will be an open house/potluck from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at 26999 Highway 62, Trail.

Mrs. Train, 83, of Trail, died Friday (May 23, 2003) at Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford.

She was born April 24, 1920, in Isabelle, S.D., to Clifford and Effie (Trevallee) Reynolds. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1929 from South Dakota, and graduated from Medford High School in 1938. She received a teaching degree from Southern Oregon College of Education (now Southern Oregon University) in 1940, and a bachelor’s degree in education from San Jose State College in 1942. On Aug. 31, 1942, in Reno, Nev., she married Ralph Harold Train, who survives.

Mrs. Train was an elementary school teacher for more than 27 years, retiring in 1974. She taught at various schools in the Willamette Valley in Creswell, Oakridge, Springfield and Westfir. She also taught in Brookings. She lived in the Eugene area for more than 50 years and returned to the Rogue Valley in 1994.

She was active in Trinity Methodist Church in Eugene and held many positions in several women’s groups.

Mrs. Train enjoyed cooking, canning and knitting.

Survivors include a daughter, Denise Carey, Renton, Wash.; a brother, Lee Reynolds, Eagle Point; and one granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Reynolds.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary, Medford.

Doris O. Claibourn
The graveside service for Doris O. Claibourn will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Memory Gardens Memorial Park in Medford. Pastor Robert G. Potvin of Worldwide Church of God will officiate.

Mrs. Claibourn, 83, of Medford, died Thursday (May 22, 2003) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics, P.O. Box 8082, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Doris Thompson on Oct. 27, 1919, in Biggs, Calif. On Sept. 7, 1968, in Grants Pass, she married Elvin "Al" Claibourn, who died in 2000. She lived in Oregon for 71 years.

Mrs. Claibourn worked as a caterer and homemaker.

She enjoyed taking long rides in her car, painting, sewing, camping, gardening and fishing.

Survivors include a son, Larry DeMontegre, Charlotte, N.C.; four daughters, Darlene Logan and Cindy Freeman, both Medford, Celeste Zimmerman, Jacksonville, and Shuree' McKinney, Dallas, Texas; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Bernice M. Goodman
The memorial service for Bernice M. Goodman will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Neighborhood Church in Medford. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Mrs. Goodman, 90, formerly of Medford, died Thursday (May 22, 2003) in Claremore, Okla.

She was born March 7, 1913, in McCurtain, Okla., to Jessie and Lewis Stephens. On Dec. 25, 1933, she married Ted J. Goodman, who died in 1998. She lived in Oklahoma, California, Washington and Arizona before settling in the Rogue Valley. She lived in the Griffin Creek area for almost 50 years.

Mrs. Goodman was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading and being with her family.

She was an active member of Neighborhood Church for many years.

Survivors include two sons, Charles J., Lebanon, and Jesse L., Poteau, Okla.; two daughters, Teddy E. Lewis, Claremore, Okla., and Sallie A. Palafox, Canby; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Emma Geneva Stinson
The graveside service for Emma Geneva Stinson will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Glendale Memorial cemetery in Glendale.

Mrs. Stinson, 89, of Glendale, died Tuesday (April 22, 2003) at Highland House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Grants Pass.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lovejoy Hospice, c/o Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home, 2065 Upper River Road, Grants Pass, OR 97526.

She was born Jan. 22, 1914, in Ripley, Okla., to William and Flora Burch. She married Dale Stinson, who died in 1983. She lived in Gardena, Calif., for several years until 1973, when she moved to Glendale.

Mrs. Stinson enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing, making crafts and quilts and gardening and flowers.

Survivors include two daughters, Colleen DeBoer, Grants Pass, and Gwen Cregan, Glendale; two sons, Larry Williams, Sherman, Ill., and Gary Williams, Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Lucille West, Kansas City, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Arrangements: Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home, Grants Pass.

Delbert Vern Troxell
A celebration of the life of Delbert Vern Troxell will be at 2 p.m. May 17 at the First Christian Church, 1921 S. Olympia St., Kennewick, Wash.

Mr. Troxell, 81, formerly of Medford, died April 15, 2003, at Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice House in Kennewick. He was a resident of the Village at Canyon Lakes for eight years, where he served as volunteer chaplain.

He was born July 26, 1921, in Kelliher, Saskatchewan, to Wayne Nebraska and Ethel Balderston Troxell, U.S. citizens living in Canada. He grew up in Medford and graduated from Medford High School in 1940.

Mr. Troxell worked for Boeing Aircraft in Seattle from 1941 to 1944, then served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific from 1944 to 1946. In 1946, he entered Northwest Christian College in Eugene, where he met Martha Hendricks. They were married July 11, 1948, at the First Christian Church in Medford. They graduated from NCC in 1950 and were jointly ordained to Christian mission/ministry at the Medford church. Mr. Troxell received an advanced divinity degree in 1958 from Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, and studied rural sociology at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y.

The Troxells served as missionaries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), in Japan until 1969, assigned primarily to rural Japanese churches, with a teaching assignment at Kwansei Gakuin University in Nishinomiya.

After returning to the United States in 1969, Mr. Troxell served as pastor of Country Homes Christian Church in Spokane, Wash., for 13 years, and at the First Christian Church in Hermiston from 1982 until his retirement in 1988. He later served interim ministries in Milton-Freewater, and Kennewick, Waitsburg and Eltopia, Wash.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Jonathan, Rapid City, S.D.; three daughters, Rebecca Robertson, Renton, Wash., Teresa Embrey, Spokane, and Colleen Carroll, Camdenton, Mo.; three sisters, Arlene Goble, Central Point, Frances Gundry, Beaverton, and Dorothy Harbison, Yuma, Ariz.; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clyde.

Dorothy Dyer
Dorothy Dyer, 79, of Jacksonville, died Monday (April 21, 2003) at her home. No service is planned.

She was born Nov. 17, 1923, in Bigger, Saskatchewan, to Levi and Mildred (Snyder) Reid. On Jan. 17, 1943, in Woodland, Calif., she married Johnnie Dyer, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1952 from California.

Mrs. Dyer was a secretary for Oregon Bank from the late 1960s until her retirement in 1980.

She enjoyed fishing, golfing and traveling in her fifth-wheel.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Donna Janelli, Jacksonville, and Diane Ferris, Sacramento, Calif.; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert.

Gertrude Agnes Williams
Gertrude Agnes Williams, 93, of Central Point, died Monday (April 21, 2003) at Alderwood Assisted Living Facility in Central Point. No service is planned. Inurnment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

She was born Oct. 19, 1909, in Eugene to Daniel and Mary Ann (Dosier) Hanscom. She lived in Eugene for 30 years, but spent most of her life in the Rogue Valley. On Aug. 23, 1950, in Ashland, she married Glen R. Williams, who died in 1994.

Mrs. Williams was a homemaker.

She enjoyed hunting and spent many years fishing the Siuslaw River and many Oregon lakes.

Survivors include a son, Robert, Sitka, Alaska; and two daughters, Jean Cluck, Central Point, and Dorothy M. Graham, Seattle. She was preceded in death by a son, Sonny; nine brothers and a sister.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

Anna Elizabeth Kopriva
The memorial service for Anna Elizabeth Kopriva will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Rogue Valley Community Church in Rogue River. Pastor Richard Kelso will officiate.

Mrs. Kopriva, 95, of Rogue River, died Monday (April 21, 2003) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Sept. 23, 1907, in Chicago, to John and Bertha Weiland. On Aug. 6, 1925, in Chicago, she married William E. Kopriva Sr., who died in 1983. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1998 from Illinois

Mrs. Kopriva was a homemaker.

She was active with the Rogue River Senior Center and was a member of the Catholic church.

Mrs. Kopriva enjoyed fishing, bingo and spending time with her family.

Survivors include two daughters, Geraldine "Mickey" James, Rogue River, and Margaret Trostel, Chicago; a son, William E. Jr., Rogue River; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.

Mary S. Warren
The memorial service for Mary S. Warren will be at 6 p.m. today at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Redwood Highway in Grants Pass. Phil Lewis will officiate.

Mrs. Warren, 84, of Grants Pass, died Sunday (March 2, 2003) at her home.

Arrangements: Southern Oregon Cremation Services.

Anne Emily Kay
The memorial service for Anne Emily Kay will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Medford.

Mrs. Kay, 74, of Medford, died Sunday (March 2, 2003) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to any Christian church.

She was born May 29, 1928, in Chicago, to Oscar and Emily (Silbberberger) Conzelmann. On May 29, 1945, in Chicago, she married Walter Fred Kay Jr., who died in 1991. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1969 from Pomona, Calif.

Mrs. Kay was a private duty aide in the medical field. Locally, she worked at Rogue Valley Manor.

She enjoyed her children and her family.

Survivors include three daughters, Karla Angell, White City, Emmy Cude, Medford, and Frances Nettles, in Arizona; two sons, Leonard, Eagle Point, and Frederick, Canyonville; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Naught.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

Helen M. Christian
The funeral for Helen M. Christian will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

Mrs. Christian, 82, of Medford, died Tuesday (March 4, 2003) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the National Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 5331 S.W. Macadam, Suite 265, Portland, OR 97201.

She was born Feb. 22, 1921, in Bergman, Ark., to Nicholas and Doris (Kendrick) Jones. She attended the School of the Ozarks in 1939 and 1940. In August 1941, in Bellefonte, Ark., she married Harley Robinson, who preceded her in death. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1944 from Harrison, Ark. In June 1950, in Medford, she married L. Joe Christian, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Christian was a grocery store owner.

She was a movie buff and an avid Betty Boop collector. She enjoyed long rides and spending time with her grandsons.

Survivors include two daughters, Doris Christian, Ashland, and Susie Christian, Medford; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Harold.

Friends may pay their respects during the funeral service on Saturday at Perl Funeral Home, Medford.
