DeEtta Jean Benack
DeEtta Jean Benack, 76, of Central Point, died Saturday (June 14, 2003) at Providence Medford Medical Center. No service is planned.

She was born Nov. 10, 1926, in Des Moines, Iowa, to William Lewis and Nora May (David) Smith. On Jan. 19, 1946, in Reno, Nev., she married
Walter C. Benack, who survives. They moved to Central Point in 1989 from Santa Cruz, Calif.
Mrs. Benack was a homemaker and a former member of the Sweet Adelines.
She was a member of the Medford First Christian Church.
Mrs. Benack enjoyed reading, animals and collecting angels.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Steven A., Vancouver, Wash.; a daughter, Barbara A. Austin, Austin, Texas; three sisters, Bessie May DeGaetand, Fairfield, Calif., Bonnie M. Gray, Murphys, Calif., and Marcia L. Barlow, Scappoose; five grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, James D. Smith.

Homer Stevens
The memorial service for Homer Stevens will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park in Medford.
Mr. Stevens, 93, of Medford, died Friday (May 30, 2003) at Three Fountains Care Center in Medford.

He was born Aug. 11, 1909, in Truckee, Calif. In 1988, in St. Helena, Calif., he married
Margie Collins, who survives.
Mr. Stevens worked for Tom Kimura and Walter Stile Orchards directing and supervising the building of fruit dehydration machines. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1988 from Chico, Calif.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Stevens enjoyed vegetable gardening, fishing and Mariners baseball.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, David, Bremerton, Wash.; five daughters, Laurie Stevens and Wanda Sherwood, both Medford, Melanie Kelley, Philomath, Shona Trumbly, Mount Holly, N.J., and Judy Hawkins, Fresno, Calif.; a sister, Mabel Murray, Santa Rosa, Calif.; two brothers, Joseph, Calistoga, Calif., and Ernie, Fresno, Calif.; 27 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Albert and Clarence; and a sister, Dora Bray.

Jerry Rodger Tiry
The memorial service for Jerry Rodger Tiry will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rogue Valley Christian Church in Medford.
Mr. Tiry, 49, of Medford, died Friday (May 30, 2003) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
He was born April 10, 1954, in North Bend.
Mr. Tiry worked as a carnival mechanic during the summer, spring and fall.
He enjoyed fishing and the outdoors.
Survivors include two daughters, Tonya Kaylee Tiry, Medford, and Katrina Leeann Tiry, Portland; two sons, Jerry Jr., Roseburg, and James Michael, Portland; his father, Irvin, Medford; two brothers, Irvin W. Tiry, Eagle Point, and Ronald Bergron, Portland; and two sisters, Rita Dean Tiry Davis, White City, and Victoria Sue Tiry, Dillard.

Harriett ‘Tommie’ C. Grieve
Harriett "Tommie" C. Grieve, 66, of Prospect, died Monday (June 2, 2003) at her home. No service is planned.

She was born Aug. 7, 1936, in Muskogee, Okla., to Harry and Rena (Self) Hamlin. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1955. On Oct. 20, 1955, in Prospect, she married
James Grieve, who survives.
Mrs. Grieve was a cook at Lost Creek Marina, Cascade Gorge Cafe', and Prospect Trophy Cafe'. She also worked as a brand checker for Southern Oregon Log Scaling.
She enjoyed cooking, hunting and fishing, picking mushrooms and huckleberries, and taking gambling trips to Seven Feathers.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include five sons, Chris, Marc and Matt, all Prospect, Mac, Eugene, and Mike, Portland; two sisters, Pat White, Fort Gibson, Okla., and Shirley Fry, Tucson, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Robert Sherwood Hinman
Robert Sherwood Hinman, 87, of Portland, formerly of Medford, died May 11, 2003, at King City Rehabilitation Center in Tigard. A private memorial service was held May 17.

He was born April 9, 1916, in Seattle, to Harry and Lillian (Hayward) Hinman. He graduated from Willamette University in Salem and lived in Medford from 1939 to 1964. On June 12, 1942, in Medford, he married
Mildred Drury Hinman, who survives.
Mr. Hinman was the administration manager at NERCO until his retirement in 1979.
During World War II, he served as a lieutenant and pilot in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Hinman enjoyed golf.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Peter, Portland; a daughter, Nancy Philipps, Ashland; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Mary Molly Wallen
The memorial Mass for Mary Molly Wallen will be at 8 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church in Ashland. The Rev. Joseph Betschart will officiate.
Ms. Wallen, of Phoenix, died Monday (June 2, 2003) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

She was born in St. Cloud, Minn.
Ms. Wallen worked as a secretary in advertising until her retirement.
She was a volunteer at the American Cancer Society and St. Vincent de Paul Society. She was a member of Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church in Ashland and the Dominican Laity.
Ms. Wallen enjoyed tennis and watching sports.
She is survived by a sister, Lou Elizabeth Paxton, Phoenix. She was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Barbara JoAnne Kimball
The graveside service for Barbara JoAnne Kimball will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Granite Hill cemetery in Grants Pass.
Ms. Kimball, 68, of Grants Pass, formerly of Medford, died Tuesday (June 3, 2003) at Three Rivers Community Hospital.
She was born Sept. 19, 1934, in Longview, Wash., to Glen and Dorothy Barger.
As a child care provider in Medford for more than 25 years, Ms. Kimball was known as a mother to many children. After retiring, she volunteered at Childcare Unlimited in Medford. She moved to Grants Pass five years ago from Medford.
During the last 12 years, she was a two-time cancer survivor.
Ms. Kimball enjoyed doing crafts with her grandchildren.
Survivors include a daughter, Kelly Parrish, Grants Pass; a son, Daniel, Grants Pass; and three grandchildren.

Elmer Samuel Hummel
The memorial service for Elmer Samuel Hummel will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 3822 Crater Lake Ave., Medford. Gerald Hajek will officiate.
Mr. Hummel, 92, of White City, died Saturday (May 31, 2003) at his home.
He was born May 16, 1911, in Cisco, Ill., to Joseph and Elna Hummel. On Jan. 6, 1943, in Salem, he married
Deborah Vaqanov, who died in 1999. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1973 from Sparks, Nev.
Mr. Hummel was serving as an elder at the Mountain View Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses until his death.
With limited vision, he continued making clocks and enjoyed listening to books on tape and classical music.
Survivors include four sons, James, White City, Samuel Elmer, Tacoma, Wash., Joseph, Savage, Minn., and Jonathan, Kelseyville, Calif.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Olsen.

Ophelia W. Prettyman
The funeral for Ophelia W. Prettyman will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Faith Tabernacle in Ashland. Pastor Curt Wine will officiate. Interment will follow at Phoenix cemetery.
Mrs. Prettyman, 87, of Ashland, died May 29, 2003, at Ashland Community Hospital.
She was born Oct. 3, 1915, in Rogersmille County, Okla., to Emil and Mamie Peterson. On Aug. 31, 1932, in Loveland, Okla., she married
A. Bob Prettyman, who died in 1978. She moved to Talent in 1936 and had lived in the Rogue Valley since that time.
Mrs. Prettyman was a founding member of Faith Tabernacle in Ashland, where she taught Sunday School.
She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening and her pets.
Survivors include four daughters, Bobbie Jepsen, Eagle Point, Wanda Prettyman, Talent, Clarece Hemmitt, Sacramento, Calif., and Yvonne Henry, Sacramento; 23 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, five brothers, and four sisters.
Friends may pay their respects from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Ashland.
Grace Mary Weiss
The funeral for Grace Mary Weiss will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Chapel of the Oaks at Oak Hill Funeral Home in San Jose. Pastor Gerry Lopes of Bethel Church in San Jose, Calif., will officiate.
Mrs. Weiss, 82, of Saratoga, Calif., formerly of Medford, died Sunday (June 1, 2003) at her daughter’s home in Saratoga.

She was born Jan. 8, 1921, in San Jose, Calif., to Nunzio and Mamie Giordano. On June 9, 1956, in San Jose, she married
Thomas Brior Weiss, who survives. They lived in Medford from 1997 until February 2003.
Mrs. Weiss was a homemaker.
She was a member of the First Assembly of God in Medford and Bethel Church in San Jose.
Mrs. Weiss enjoyed sewing, baking (especially wedding cakes), dollmaking and crafts.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Karen E. Shulman, Central Point, and Sharlene D. Rodenberg, Saratoga, Calif.; five brothers, Cyril Giordano, Grants Pass, John Giordano, San Jose, Calif., James Giordano, Spokane, Wash., Nuncie Giordano, Las Vegas, and Joseph Giordano, Henderson, Nev.; three sisters, Josephine Anderson, Spokane, Wash., Mary Holbert, Las Vegas, and Esther Bent, San Jose; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Theresa Artellan; two brothers, Peter and Frank Giordano; and five other siblings who died in infancy.

Rosemary ‘Rosie’ Reisinger
The memorial service for Rosemary Lou "Rosie" (Baker) Reisinger will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial park, Medford. The Rev. Earl Best will officiate.
Mrs. Reisinger, 43, of Medford, whose body was found May 31 in Lake County, is believed to have died on or near Feb. 3.

She was born Aug. 17, 1959, in Spokane, Wash. She moved to the Rogue Valley from Bellevue, Wash., in 1974, and graduated from Medford Senior High School in 1977. On May 13, 2001, in Medford, she married
Daniel R. Reisinger, who survives.
Mrs. Reisinger was the office manager for Sam Jennings Co., Inc., in Medford, where she had worked since 1988.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, her dogs, camping, gardening and needlepoint.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Jason R. Rupert, Central Point; a daughter, Melissa R. Rupert, Central Point; her parents, Carmen and Gene Baker, Medford; five sisters, Lisa Jordan, Everett, Wash., Terri Black, Chehalis, Wash., Lori Hollis, Pasadena, Texas, Dianne Storrs, Anchorage, Alaska and Linda Hall, Kirkland, Wash.

Veola May Hahn
The funeral service for Veola May Hahn will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home in Grants Pass. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Grants Pass.
Mrs. Hahn, 97, of Hermiston, formerly of Grants Pass, died Sunday (June 1, 2003) in Hermiston.
She was born May 17, 1906, in Monrovia, Calif., to Bryson and Lulu Roberts. In July 1925, she married
her childhood sweetheart, Dennis Hahn, who died in 1968.
The Hahns moved to Grants Pass in 1937, where they lived until 1945, when they purchased a grocery store in Wolf Creek. They operated the store until 1956, when they moved back to Grants Pass.
Mrs. Hahn was active in the Josephine County Sheriff’s Auxiliary from 1946 to 1968. She worked for Broer Wholesale Grocery for 12 years, then went to work for McGregor’s Variety Store in Grants Pass.
Survivors include a daughter, Dona Lewis, Hermiston; a sister, Rachel Phelan, Pasadena, Calif.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Kimsey.
