Joyce Patricia Applen
A graveside service for Joyce Patricia Applen will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens, Grants Pass. Pastor Don Carlson will officiate.
Mrs. Applen, 80, of Medford died Thursday (Dec. 5, 2002) at the Waterford at Three Fountains in Medford.
She was born on Aug. 14, 1922, in Van Nuys, Calif. On June 27, 1942, she married
Arnold G. Applen, who preceded her in death. She moved to Merlin in 1978 and moved to Grants Pass in 1984.
Mrs. Applen worked as a retail clerk for 20 years.
She was a member of the Sons of Norway for 60 years, and she had attended Calvary Lutheran Church since 1976.
Mrs. Applen enjoyed painting, music, golf and bowling.
Survivors include: a son, Jeffery, Medford; a daughter, Jayne Applen, Medford; a sister Catherine Connet, Kingman, Ariz.; a brother, George Farrell, Ventura, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Frances ‘Frankie’ Peters
Frances "Frankie" Peters, 74, of Yuba City, Calif., died Tuesday (Dec. 3, 2002) in Rideout Hospital, Marysville, Calif. A private service is planned.
Mrs. Peters was born on Oct. 2, 1928, in San Bernadino, Calif., a daughter of Charles and Effie Filby. On Jan. 29, 1950, in Lovelock, Calif., she married
R.C. Peters who preceded her in death. She moved to Ruch in 1967 and moved to Medford in 1976.
She worked for R.C. Peters Tree Service in Medford. She retired in 1993.
Mrs. Peters organized the Sterlingville cemetery Association and played in a small country band.
She enjoyed sewing, astrology and chickens.
Survivors include twin daughters Ginger Peters and Virginia Parker, both of Saratoga, Wyo.; two brothers, Jerry and Bobby Filby, both of Yuba City, Calif.; three sisters, Mary Jones, Marysville, Calif., Sarah Johnston, Fresno, Calif.; and Bertha Harper, Sheridan; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Rogers; and two brothers, Billy and Jim Filby.

Richard Elbert Tremper
The funeral for Richard Elbert Tremper will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, 550 Business Park Drive, Medford. Pastor Skip Day of the First Assembly of God in White City will officiate. Interment will be at Eagle Point National cemetery.
Mr. Tremper, 78, of Eagle Point, died Tuesday (Nov. 26, 2002) in Medford.

He was born July 24, 1924, in Redondo Beach, Calif., to Elbert Milton and Pearl Bessie (Walker) Tremper. On Feb. 21, 1971, in Reno, Nev., he married
Mary E. Baker, who survives. They moved to Talent in 1991 from Penn Valley, Calif., and later moved to Eagle Point.
Mr. Tremper was a writer and producer of technical and scientific movies in the aerospace motion picture industry for Lockheed and the U.S. Navy and Air Force in California and Nevada. He retired in 1988.
He was a private in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1944.
Mr. Tremper enjoyed golf, fishing, reading and movies.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Susan Andrews, San Jose, Calif.; a son, Alan, San Luis Obispo, Calif.; two stepsons, Craig W. Goossen, San Jose, Calif., and Christopher Goossen, Ontario, Calif.; two brothers, Ronald, Nipomo, Calif., and Gary, San Luis Obispo, Calif.; a sister, Marilyn Ecoff, Danville, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

Charles F. Lewis
The graveside service for Charles F. Lewis will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens in Grants Pass. Pastor C.J. Bryant will officiate.
Mr. Lewis, 74, of Grants Pass, died Tuesday (Nov. 26, 2002) at his home.

He was born Sept. 21, 1928, in Ashland.
Mr. Lewis was a log truck driver for Plumley Logging. His CB handle was "Bisodol."
He served with the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II.
Mr. Lewis was a member of the Moose Lodge.
He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting, camping and gardening.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Beatrice Lewis, Grants Pass; a daughter, Mary Lou Wellock, Portland; a son, Robert Miller Jr., Eugene; a brother, Daniel, Seattle; a half- brother, Benny Polk, Cottage Grove; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Rose Ellen Gardner
The memorial service for Rose Ellen Gardner will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Truth Tabernacle in Medford. Pastor L.N. Murphy will officiate. Private interment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
Mrs. Gardner, 82, of Medford, died Nov. 21, 2002, at Three Fountains Nursing Center.
She was born Rose Cornette on April 17, 1920, in Dione, Ky. In 1945, in Cumberland, Ky., she married
James E. Gardner, who died in 1982.
In Tennessee, Mrs. Gardner was a seamstress in a garment factory. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1998 from Sweet Home.
She was a member of Truth Tabernacle in Medford.
Mrs. Gardner enjoyed quilting and sewing.
Survivors include a son, Allan King, Medford; a sister, Maxine Keith, Eugene; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Stephanie Catherine Poole
A celebration of the life of Stephanie Catherine Poole will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Faith Assembly of God Church, 14198 Edler St., Bly.
Mrs. Poole, 49, of Bly, formerly of Central Point, died Saturday (Nov. 23, 2002) in Bly.

She was born Dec. 3, 1952, at the old Siskiyou Lodge in Ashland, to Flora Catherine (Northcutt) and Stephen Thomas Harris. She was raised in Central Point and attended Central Point schools through her junior year in high school. The family moved to Keno and she graduated from Henley High School in 1971. On Dec. 1, 1974, at her parent’s home in Keno, she married
James Carlon Poole, who survives.
Mrs. Poole worked for Kings Security as a security guard for several Klamath County lumber companies. She met her husband while working for Weyerhaeuser Lumber. She also worked several other short time jobs, including a home day care center for about four years. She then worked for the U.S. Forest Service, as a sivilculturist in Lakeview and Klamath County for 14 years before being diagnosed with terminal cancer.
She was an active volunteer in the community, helping with Little League, cooking for the elderly in Bly and caring for children as the "Town Mom." She was also a substitute cook for Gearhart School.
Mrs. Poole was a former member of the Eagles Lodge in Lakeview and attended Faith Assembly of God in Bly.
She enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and gardening.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Judy Howard, Vancouver, Wash., and Jamie Rena Poole, Bly; a son, Tyson, Corvallis, her parents, Flo and Steve Harris, Sprague River; two brothers, Van Harris, Klamath Falls, and Tom Harris, Roseburg; a sister, Diane VanDusen, Dairy; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, James Cayden Poole.

Ray Leroy Guss
The funeral for Ray Leroy Guss will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park.
Mr. Guss, 84, of Medford, died Monday (Nov. 25, 2002) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 28, 1918, in Decatur, Ark. On March 12, 1944, in Coffeyville, Kan., he married
Jane Thompson, who died in 1969. On Aug. 30, 1986, in Reno, Nev., he married
Roberta "Bobbie" W. Hunter, who survives.
Mr. Guss moved to the Rogue Valley in 1947 from Kansas. He worked for a time for Elk Lumber Co., then became a barber in 1954. He owned and operated Ray Guss’ Barber Shop in Medford for 25 years, retiring in 1980.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Mr. Guss was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in South Dakota before entering the Army. He was a member of the Elks for 30 years, and the Eagle Lodge. He was a charter member of the Southern Oregon Singles Square Dance Club.
He enjoyed travel, cars and dancing.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Michael Ray, Ashland; two daughters, Judith Ann Guss, Medford, and Linda Jean Guss, Portland; a stepson, Craig Stuart Hunter, Irvine, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Lorraine Alison Truitt, Ramona, Calif.; a sister, Vauda Winterbower, Hepler, Kan.; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren; and two step- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.

Earnest Hadley
The funeral for Earnest Hadley will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Conger-Morris Funeral Home in Medford. The Rev. Jack Bacon of Shady Cove Assembly of God will officiate. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Exeter cemetery, Exeter, Calif.
Mr. Hadley, 79, of Trail, formerly of Dinuba, Calif., died Wednesday (Nov. 27, 2002) at his home.

He was born Aug. 29, 1923, in Orr, Okla., to Victor and Minne Mae (Bert) Hadley. On March 15, 1968, in Las Vegas, he married
Zola R. Tucker, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley eight years ago from Dinuba, Calif.
Mr. Hadley was a member of the Shady Cove Assembly of God.
He enjoyed fishing, camping and gardening.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, David Dollar, Fillmore, Calif., Dale Hadley, Menden, Nev., and Gary Hadley, Carson City, Nev.; three daughters, Brenda Ballinger, Dinuba, Calif., Marsha Crockett, Fillmore, Calif., and Virginia Chambers, San Jose, Calif.; six brothers, Tommy, Trail, Louis, Forbestown, Calif., Billie, Colterville, Calif., and Raymond, Medford; a sister, Margie Wilson, Big Oaks Flats, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Floyd, Loyd, Mack and Leonard.

Kenneth O. Dohman
The graveside service for Kenneth O. Dohman will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Medford. Pastor Kenne Horton of Rogue Valley Christian Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mr. Dohman, 94, of Medford, died Sunday (Nov. 24, 2002) in Medford.

He was born April 15, 1908, in Washburn, Ill., to Quincey and Anna (Schultz) Dohman. On Jan. 3, 1963, in Yuma, Ariz., he married
Laurel Moran Mackenzie, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1972 from California.
Mr. Dohman was the plant manager at Utility Trailer Manufacturing Company in City of Industry, Calif., for 40 years.
He enjoyed gardening, making birdhouses and volunteer work.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Gary, Irvine, Calif.; two daughters, Donna Parker, Moreno Valley, Calif., and Judy Rutschow, Upland, Calif.; two brothers, Charles, in Minnesota, and Quincey, in California; two sisters, Georgie Young and Esther Eiter, both in California; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Edith Ostman
A celebration of the life of Edith Ostman will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Perl Funeral Home in Medford.
Mrs. Ostman, 88, of Medford, died Monday (Nov. 25, 2002) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
She was born Edith Victoria Grahn on June 24, 1914, in Roseau, Minn., to Victor and Mary (Grand) Grahn. She attended Roseau High School. On Jan. 21, 1949, in Oakland, Calif., she married
Stanley W. Ostman, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1974 from California.
Mrs. Ostman was a homemaker.
She enjoyed needlepoint and painting.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Arthur Wayne Tofte; two daughters, Gloria Anne Simmerman, and Shirley Kay Tofte; a sister, Muriel Cole; two brothers, Alvin and Norris Grahn; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Paul Marion Denton
The funeral for Paul Marion Denton will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Central Valley Chapel. Chaplain Wayne Bell will officiate. Interment will be at Eagle Point National cemetery.
Mr. Denton, 63, of Central Point, died Sunday (Nov. 24, 2002) at his home.

He was born April 16, 1939, in Paulette, Miss., to Elisha and Rosetta Denton. He moved to the Rogue Valley in the 1960s from Mississippi. On June 8, 1986, in Gold Hill, he married
Theresa Marrone, who survives.
Mr. Denton was a sawyer for Fir Ply and MedCo, and was working for Advanced Automotive at the time of his death.
He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1966 to 1968.
Mr. Denton enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and Western music.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four sons, LeRoy and Thomas Richmond, Central Point, Charles Richmond, Gold Hill, and Clifford Richmond Jr., Central Point; two daughters, Patty Overbeck, in Texas, and Terry Bedingfield, Medford; four brothers, Jimmy, in Texas, Robert, in Louisiana, James in Georgia, and Elbert in California; three sisters, Eva Baxley in Mississippi, Kathy Smets in Medford, and Minnie Howard in Mississippi; and 17 grandchildren.
