Gail C. Covey
The memorial service for Gail C. Covey will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church, Medford.
Mrs. Covey, 73, of Medford, died Friday (Dec. 6, 2002) at Three Fountains.
She was born May 26, 1929, in Medford, to George A. Codding Sr. and Maude Corlies Codding. Her father was Jackson County district attorney from 1929 to 1936.
She attended what is now known as Southern Oregon University. She married
Dale Covey more than 50 years ago. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Covey worked for Jewett Office Supply in Las Vegas, as a bookkeeper for her husband’s automotive business and as a secretary for the Consumer Sounding Board.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Covey was an avid reader.
Survivors include three sons, Bob, Medford, Gary, Modesto, Calif., and Dale Jr., Tacoma, Wash.; two daughters, Gail Wood, Modesto, Calif., and Delores Ward, Phoenix, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, George Codding Jr.

Dorreen Fern Townsend
The funeral for Dorreen Fern Townsend will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Eagle Point National cemetery. Pastor Mike Gass of Harvest Baptist Temple in Medford will officiate.
Mrs. Townsend, 65, of Medford, died Sunday (Dec. 8, 2002) in Medford.
She was born Dorreen Fern Anderson on Sept. 1, 1937, in Sioux City, Iowa. On Aug. 4, 1958, she married
Rolland B. Townsend, who died in 1996.
Mrs. Townsend was a homemaker.
She lived in the Rogue Valley most of her life and was a member of Harvest Baptist Temple.
Mrs. Townsend enjoyed spending time with and baby-sitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, listening to country music and spending time with friends and family.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen Townsend, Medford, and Iona Townsend, Coos Bay; two sons, Rolland Townsend, Rogue River, and Calvin Barnett, Central Point; a brother, Verner Anderson, Oregon City; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Doreen G. Christensen
The funeral for Doreen G. Christensen will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Neighborhood Church in Medford.
Mrs. Christensen, 78, of Medford, died Saturday (Dec. 7, 2002) at her home.

She was born Feb. 3, 1924, in Lowestoft, England, to Henry Philip and Gertrude Maude Blowers. On Sept. 8, 1945, in Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, England, she married
Warren L. Christensen, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Christensen was a homemaker. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1960 from Bakersfield, Calif.
She was a member of the Neighborhood Church and was active in Children’s and Women’s Ministries throughout her life.
Survivors include two sons, Paul W., Eagle Point, and David L., Albany; a daughter, Lois Thurton, Toronto, Ontario, Canada; two sisters, Patricia Bugg and Maureen Nadge; a brother, Philip Blowers; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends may pay their respects from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park, Medford.
Myrtle Juanita Harbour
The graveside service for Myrtle Juanita Harbour will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Medford.
Mrs. Harbour, 99, of White City, died Sunday (Dec. 8, 2002) at her home.
She was born Aug. 20, 1903, in Naples, Texas, to Izaac M. and Mary Lou (Richardson) Estes. On Jan. 26, 1936, in Ventura, Calif., she married
Harold Clarence "Pat" Harbour.
Mrs. Harbour was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband.

Edwin Sherburn Bowers
The memorial service for Edwin Sherburn Bowers will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Veterans Affairs Domiciliary in White City. Chaplain Wayne Bell will officiate.
Mr. Bowers, 81, of Medford, died Sunday (Dec. 8, 2002) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 25, 1921, in Sanford, Maine, to Dana and Apphia Bowers. On June 11, 1944, in Chicago, he married
Jean Mix, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1945 from Chicago.
Mr. Bowers had owned and operated Bowers Plumbing and Heating since 1952.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy as a motor machinist mate first class in the South Pacific Fleet, aboard PT Squadron’s Seven and Ten. He received a Purple Heart for wounds received in action in the Philippine Islands.
Mr. Bowers enjoyed naval history, retelling sea stories, rebuilding machinery and gold mining.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four daughters, Kathleen Olney, Wimer, Julie Wright, White City, Aisha Bowers, Kenmore, Wash., and Lisa Erden, Bothell, Wash.; three sons, Dana and Paul, both Medford, and Grant, Eugene; a brother, Donald, Portland; a sister, Mildred Woods, Wilderville; 20 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanne Bowers; four brothers and one sister.

Vicki L. May
Vicki L. May, 42, of Medford, died Monday (Dec. 9, 2002) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. Arrangements will be announced by Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives and Crematory.
Edward Arther Erickson Jr.
The graveside service for Edward Arther Erickson Jr. will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Memory Gardens Memorial Park in Medford. The memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Foots Creek Chapel in Gold Hill. Pastor Mike Moore will officiate.
Mr. Erickson, 77, of Gold Hill, died Sunday (Dec. 8, 2002) at his home.

He was born April 7, 1925, in Los Angeles, to Edward and Esther Erickson. On June 20, 1973, in Flagstaff, Ariz., he married
Grace Adams, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley seven years ago from Hamburg, Calif.
Mr. Erickson was an instructor and department coordinator at Los Angeles Trade Technical College, retiring in 1977 after working 20 years.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Erickson attended Foots Creek Chapel and was a member of Southern Oregon Soaring Society.
He enjoyed fishing, flying radio-controlled airplanes, traveling and computers.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, John, El Dorado, Calif., and Glenn, Placerville, Calif.; a daughter, Kristin White, Tualatin; two stepdaughters, Jerri Potras, West Covina, Calif., and Kim Potras, Pasadena, Calif.; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Erika Erickson.

Lynn G. Neuschwander
A celebration of the life of Lynn G. Neuschwander will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Shenandoah Inn on Crater Lake Highway in Medford.
Mr. Neuschwander, 52, of Central Point, died Thursday (Dec. 5, 2002) in Tacoma, Wash., of heart failure.

He was born Aug. 14, 1950, in Eugene, to Robert and Elizabeth Neuschwander. The family moved to Roseburg in 1967, and he graduated from Roseburg High School in 1969. He moved to the Medford area in 1978. In 1996, in Central Point, he married
Sharon, who survives.
Mr. Neuschwander was working for Gates Trucking at the time of his death. He enjoyed his family, hunting with his sons and his father, and fishing.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Jeffrey, Coquille, Monte, of White City, who is now serving with the National Guard in the Middle East, and Kelly, Eagle Point; a daughter, Susan Chaney, Coos Bay; his father, Robert, Roseburg; two sisters, Linda Lambert, Salem and Vikki Clark, Umpqua; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth; a brother Ray, and his twin brother, Larry.

Lynn George Neuschwander
Lynn George Neuschwander, 52, of Central Point, died of heart failure Thursday (Dec. 5, 2002) in Tacoma, Wash.
Arrangements are pending.
Elden Ray Smith
The memorial service for Elden Ray Smith will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Sherwood. Interment will be in Sherwood.
Mr. Smith, 94, of Medford, died Saturday (Dec. 7, 2002) at Three Fountains Nursing Center.
He was born March 18, 1908, in Weston, to Elwood and Louise Bond Smith. In 1938, in Sherwood, he married
Mabel Voss, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Smith worked for Union Pacific Railroad in California for many years. He moved to Medford in 1945, where he owned a pear orchard and raised turkeys for several years. He also delivered oil for Kennedy Fuel and later moved to Gold Hill, where he was the manager of Dardinells Trailer Park for several years. He returned to Medford in 2000.
He was a 55-year Masonic member in Quincy, Calif.
Survivors include a sister, Marjorie Folz, Salem. He was preceded in death by a sister, Violet Ellis; and two brothers, Ira and Loyal.

William Cowan McElroy
The memorial service for William Cowan McElroy will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at River Valley Fellowship in Medford. Pastor Sam Pacheco will officiate. Inurnment will be in Eagle Point National cemetery.
Mr. McElroy, 74, of Central Point, died Saturday (Dec. 7, 2002) at his home.

He was born July 11, 1928, in Grant City, Mo., to Archibald and Bertha McElroy. On Aug. 12, 1965, in Kenmore, Wash., he married
Jean Sloan, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1969 from Bellevue, Wash.
Mr. McElroy was a foreman at Timber Products in White City, retiring in 1993 after 25 years.
He joined the Merchant Marine in 1944, the U.S. Naval Reserves in 1946, and the U.S. Navy in 1950, serving during the Korean War until 1954.
Mr. McElroy was a member of the Elks, Sams Valley Grange and River Valley Fellowship.
He enjoyed playing a bass and singing bluegrass music and was a member of the Peach Pickers Band. He also enjoyed camping, golfing and fishing.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include seven sons, Marty McElroy, Sweet Home, Mathew McElroy, Bothell, Wash, Russell McElroy, Seattle, Terry Everson, Portland, Mike Everson, Medford, and Rick and David Everson, both Sams Valley; a daughter, Pam Crowley, Sams Valley; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Bob; and two sisters, Beth Carlson and Rita McElroy.

Phyllis W. Walters
Phyllis W. Walters, 80, of Medford, formerly of Shady Cove, died Monday (Dec. 9, 2002) at her home. No service is planned.

She was born July 16, 1922, in Oakland, Calif., to Denver and Alice (Morken) Wolfe.
Ms. Walters was a telephone operator. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1994 from Vancouver, Wash.
Survivors include a son, James, Shady Cove; a daughter, Judy Maher, Coos Bay; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Tom Sanford Jr.
Tom Sanford Jr., 78, of Grants Pass, died Friday (Dec. 6, 2002) at Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass. No service is planned at this time.
He was born March 16, 1924, in Kosse, Texas, to Thomas and Stella Sanford.
Mr. Sanford lived in Torrance, Calif., for many years, working as a roofer for Pacific Roofers.
He moved to Crescent City for a few years before moving to Grants Pass in the early 1960s.
Mr. Sanford enjoyed woodworking and fishing.
He is survived by his companion, Celenia Zamot, Grants Pass. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, in 1992; and by many brothers and sisters.

Ada Catherine Spruell
The memorial service for Ada Catherine Spruell will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home, Grants Pass. Jack Zieser, of the Church of Christ in Rogue River, will officiate. Interment will be in Hawthorne Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Spruell, 80, of Rogue River, died Monday (Nov. 18, 2002) at her home.
She was born Ada Catherine Binkley on May 5, 1922, in Mount Carmel, Ill. On Dec. 24, 1948, in Henderson, Ky., she married
William Riley Spruell, who died in 1996. They moved to Southern California in 1954 from Mount Carmel.
Mrs. Spruell worked as a seamstress, sewing draperies and sails, for 20 years. She returned to California after her husband’s death, and moved back to Rogue River in May 2002 from Lake Isabella, Calif.
She enjoyed quilting, camping and fishing, gardening and her children.
Survivors include two sons, Verl Griess, Rogue River, and William Spruell, Sandy; two daughters, Kathy Longshore, Long Beach, Calif., and Tonya Cudahy, Rogue River; four sisters, Elma Coker, Bodfish, Calif., Becky Frailey, Lake Isabella, Calif., Edna Carroll, Victorville, Calif., and Virginia Siebert, Trona, Calif.; a brother, Bob Binkley, Bakersfield, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son Claude Griess.
