Bette Mae Gibson
Bette Mae Gibson, 72, of Shady Cove, died Thursday (Feb. 13, 2003) in Medford. Cremation will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park. A family member will scatter her ashes in the Rogue River near Shady Cove.
She was born May 19, 1930, in Adena, Colo., to Julius and Agnes Ocenas.
Ms. Gibson worked for Bear Creek Corp. as an inspector in fruit processing.
Survivors include a daughter, Andrea Rodgers, Williams; three grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.

Frank ‘Dino’ Eldred
The memorial service for Frank "Dino" Eldred will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lundberg’s L.B. Hall Funeral Home in Grants Pass.
Mr. Eldred, 64, of Grants Pass, died Friday (Feb. 14, 2003) at his daughter’s home in Grants Pass.
He was born on Oct. 11, 1938, in Little Rock, Ark., to Frank and Lillie Eldred. He moved to Southern Oregon in 1947 from California.
Mr. Eldred worked as a truck driver for many years.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, fast cars and spending time with his family.
Survivors include a daughter, Susan Chittenden, Grants Pass; a son, Paul, Ephrata, Wash., five brothers, Floyd Eldred, Cave Junction, Johnny Eldred, Sumner, Wash., Leon Eldred, Grants Pass, Vernon Eldred, San Diego, and Carl Rosenquest, Grants Pass; a sister, Peggy Eldred, Grants Pass; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Clarence, James and Velton Eldred.

Dora Jean Thomas-Romero
The graveside service for Dora Jean Thomas-Romero will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Independent Order of Odd Fellows cemetery in Jacksonville. Viven Weaver of Canyon No. 79 Encampment of Myrtle Creek and Cheryl Rohde of Ruth Rebekah Lodge No. 4 of Jacksonville will officiate. Following the service there will be a gathering of family and friends and a meal at Central Point No. 193 Odd Fellows Lodge in Central Point.
Ms. Thomas-Romero, 42, of Medford, died Saturday (Feb. 15, 2003) at Rogue Valley Medical Center after a brief illness.
She grew up in Medford, where she attended school and graduated from Medford High School. Her family was involved with the Odd Fellows and she was in Theta Ro at the age of 12 and a member of Ruth Rebekah Lodge No. 4 in Jacksonville and Ladies Encampment Auxiliary Canyon No. 79 of Myrtle Creek, where she held the office of chief matriarch before Table Rock No. 10 LEA consolidated with Myrtle Creek.
Ms. Thomas-Romero worked as a caregiver.
She enjoyed her cats, trout fishing and stamp collecting.
Survivors include two daughters, Karla Hulbert, Rogue River, and Detra Schea, Medford; a son, Adam Malmburg, in Washington; her parents, Kindred and Betty Thomas, Medford; and two brothers, Ronald Thomas, Vallejo, Calif., and John Thomas, Medford.

Lois Maxine Horton
The funeral for Lois Maxine Horton will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home in Grants Pass. Pastor Gene Mumau of Allen Creek Neighborhood Church will officiate. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Grants Pass.
Mrs. Horton, 81, of Grants Pass, died Tuesday (Feb. 18, 2003) at Highland House Nursing and Rehabilitation in Grants Pass.
She was born Jan. 6, 1922, in Vernonia, to Romie and Hattie Howell. She graduated from Klamath Falls High School in 1940. On June 26, 1944, in Grants Pass, she married
Martin "Marty" Horton, who survives.
Mrs. Horton was a member of the Allen Creek Neighborhood Community Church.
She enjoyed writing poetry, camping, traveling and reading.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marnette Sue Horton.

Nellie A. Hines
The memorial service for Nellie A. Hines will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at Ashland Bible Church. Pastors Nathan Shinn and Garland Shinn will officiate.
Mrs. Hines, 92, of Ashland, died Sunday (Feb. 16, 2003) in Ashland.

She was born Nellie Ann Jepson on July 2, 1910, in Los Angeles. She attended Glendale College in California. On Sept. 1, 1939, in Pasadena, Calif., she married
Ray Hines, who survives. They moved to Ashland in 1962.
Mrs. Hines was a secretary to the city manager in Glendale, Calif.
She attended Ashland Bible Church.
Mrs. Hines enjoyed rug weaving.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Darline Squyres and Cheryl Ann Seefeldt; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Elsie and May; and two brothers, Frank and Herbert.

Jeanie Pearson
The funeral for Jeanie Pearson will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Conger-Morris Chapel in Medford. The committal service will follow at Jacksonville cemetery. The Rev. John Nelson of East Valley United Pentecostal Church of God in San Jose, Calif., and Rev. Tom Reimer of Reese Creek Christian Center in Eagle Point will officiate.
Mrs. Pearson, 48, of White City, died Tuesday (Feb. 18, 2003) in Medford.

She was born Feb. 3, 1955, in Springfield, Mo., to Lowell and Lula (Gray) Young. On Jan. 3, 1980, in Reno, Nev., she married
Randy Pearson, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley five years ago from San Jose, Calif.
Mrs. Pearson was a loan officer with A-1 Financial in Medford.
She was a member of East Valley United Pentecostal Church of God in San Jose, Calif.
Mrs. Pearson collected angels, played the piano and enjoyed cooking fudge and homemade biscuits.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Randy Pearson Jr., Red Bluff, Calif., and Michael Young, El Dorado, Calif.; five brothers, Dale Young, San Jose, Calif., and Manuel, Bobby, Timmy and Ronnie Young, all Springfield, Mo.; three sisters, Loretta Helms, Pierre S.D., Shirley Vining, Kansas City, Kan., and LaDonna Cody, Mansfield, Mo.; and nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. today at Conger-Morris Chapel in Medford.
Mattie Lee Martindale
The funeral for Mattie Lee Martindale will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Rogue Valley Christian Church in Medford. Interment will be at Sunset cemetery in Lakeview.
Mrs. Martindale, 89, of Medford, died Tuesday (Feb. 18, 2003) at a Medford foster care home.

She was born Sept. 6, 1913, in Antlers, Okla., to Ace and Christina (Duncan) Dunkin. She grew up in Oklahoma. On Aug. 23, 1930, in Dunbar, Okla., she married
Bud E. Martindale, who preceded her in death. They lived in Oklahoma until the Dust Bowl forced them to move to Oregon, where they settled in Lakeview. She lived there until she moved to Klamath Falls in 1970, and to Medford in 1986.
Mrs. Martindale was a homemaker.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and fishing.
Survivors include two sons, Delbert, Medford, and Stanley, Roseburg; two daughters, Florence Powell, Medford, and Phreda Nelson, Klamath Falls; a sister, Bernice Jones, Antlers, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Manuel and Meredith Martindale; four brothers and two sisters.

Mary B. Fernau Doty
The funeral for Mary B. Fernau Doty will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Perl Funeral Home in Medford.
Mrs. Doty, 95, of Medford, died Sunday (Feb. 16, 2003) at her home.
She was born July 23, 1907, in Ainsworth, Neb., to Marion and Lola (Tennant) Gilchrist. She graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1925. On July 25, 1925, in Winner, S.D., she married
Ernest W. Fernau, who died in 1974. They were farmers in Long Pine, Neb., then owned and operated a restaurant in Salem from 1949 to 1962. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1962 from Salem, and worked as a sales clerk for JC Penney until her retirement in 1972.
On Aug. 4, 1979, in Reno, Nev., she married
Raymond E. Doty, who died in 1984.
Mrs. Doty was a member of the Central Point Senior Citizens Club.
She enjoyed church, spending time with family and friends, traveling, and playing 12-card bingo and bunko.
Survivors include a son, Marion Fernau, Medford; a daughter, Kathryn Ford, Merced, Calif.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister and three brothers.
Friends may pay their respects at the conclusion of Friday’s service.

Kenneth L. Powers
A celebration of the life of Kenneth L. Powers will be at 4 p.m. Friday in the Rogue Room at Skyline Plaza.
Mr. Powers, 80, of Medford, died Tuesday (Feb. 18, 2003) at Rogue Valley Manor.

He was born March 31, 1922, in Holly, Colo., to Guy and Cora (Hill) Powers. In 1946, he graduated from Colorado State in Fort Collins, School of Veterinary Medicine. On April 19, 1946, in Fort Collins, Colo., he married
Elizabeth Brown, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1998 from Modesto, Calif.
Mr. Powers’ work as a veterinarian took him to Hawaii and Melbourne, Australia. He was a pioneer in the field of artificial insemination for cows.
He served in the U.S. Army American Specialized Training Program (ASTP) during World War II. This program set up for students in the fields of dentistry, medicine and veterinary medicine.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Linda Murphy, Lodi, Calif., and Nancy Kusich, Mountain View, Calif.; a sister, Marjorie Morford, Lake George, Colo.; a brother, Raymond, Green Valley, Ariz.; and four grandchildren.

Desi Rae Roelfs
The memorial service for Desi Rae Roelfs will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bethel Church in Medford. Pastor Tim Olson will officiate.
Mrs. Roelfs, 45, of Portland, formerly of White City, died Jan. 30, 2003, in Portland.

She was born Sept. 24, 1957, in Muscatine, Iowa, to Ross Orval and Alda Davis. She attended schools in the Rogue Valley. In Portland, she married
Paul Roelfs, who survives.
Mrs. Roelfs was a service station attendant. She lived in White City in 2002.
She enjoyed being in the mountains.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Brandy Davis; a daughter, Desirae Davis; three brothers, Brad, Ross and Rodney; four sisters, Cindy, Becky, Debbie and Teri; and five grandchildren.

Newton Henry Wonacott
The memorial service for Newton Henry Wonacott will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Valley View Seventh-day Adventist Church in Medford.
Mr. Wonacott, 75, of Medford, died Friday (Feb. 14, 2003) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 20, 1927, in Gooding, Idaho, to Newton and Opal Wonacott. On May 7, 1947, in San Jose, Calif., he married
Ruby Jo Haynes, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1966 from San Jose.
Mr. Wonacott was a small-business entrepreneur and enjoyed many diverse endeavors. He worked mainly as a jeweler and small business technician, retiring in 1976.
He served in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Wonacott was a member of Valley View Seventh-day Adventist Church.
He enjoyed farming, raising cattle, driving tractors and playing with his kids.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Newton R., Central Point; two daughters, Sandra Wonacott and Rita Dyer, both Medford; a brother, Clarence, Orland, Calif.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Olga M. Hoxworth
Olga M. Hoxworth, 83, of Medford, died Sunday (Feb. 16, 2003) at her daughter’s home in Powell Butte. A private service will be held.
She was born April 14, 1919, in Portland, to John and Emma Verdalio. On May 15, 1939, in Portland, she married
Lee D. Hoxworth, who died in July 2002.
Mrs. Hoxworth was a wife, mother and homemaker.
Survivors include two daughters, Elaine Pape, Powell Butte, and Julie Hoxworth-Kies, in Germany; a son, Lane, Eugene; a sister, Gloria McMaster, Lacey, Wash.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
