Ronald F. Batchelor
A celebration of the life of Ronald F. Batchelor will be at 3 p.m. Friday, May 31, at Calvary Lutheran Church, Grants Pass. The Rev. Don Carlson will officiate.

Mr. Batchelor, 71, of Grants Pass, died May 17, 2002, at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the youth or music ministries of Calvary Lutheran Church, 909 N.E. A St., Grants Pass, OR 97526 or Lovejoy Hospice, 939 S.E. Eighth St., Grants Pass, OR 97526.

He was born Nov. 27, 1930, in Westwood, Calif. On Dec. 29, 1973, in Sunnyvale, Calif., he married Angelica "Angie" Putman, who survives. They moved to Grants Pass in 1988 from Sunnyvale, Calif.

Mr. Batchelor was an aircraft engine mechanic for United Airlines in South San Francisco.

He served in the U.S. Air Force, Strategic Air Command, with tours in Japan, Korea and troubleshooting all over the United States.

Mr. Batchelor was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, where he served as vice president of the Lutheran Brotherhood and was a member of the Chancel Choir. He was also a member of TOPS, where he was TOPS King, representing the state of Oregon in 1996.

He enjoyed carpentry and his craftsmanship was exhibited in the new sanctuary built in 1991 at Calvary Lutheran Church. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting, music and reading.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four daughters, Patsy McBee, Scottsdale, Ariz., Cindy Lindsey, Midland, Texas, Diane Griffin, Redwood City, Calif., and Andrea Bates, Port Quitlam, British Columbia; a son, Glenn Putman, Belcarra, British Columbia; a sister, Juanita Goforth, Lodi, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Patricia Ann Algie
The memorial service for Patricia Ann Algie will be at 10:30 a.m. June 19 at Ashland First Methodist Church. The Rev. Michael Powell will officiate.

Ms. Algie, 64, of Phoenix, died May 17, 2002, at Three Fountains Nursing Center in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, P.O. Box 1010, Torrance, CA 90505.

She was born Nov. 20, 1937, in Santa Monica, Calif., to Thomas Lightbody and Dora Belle (Fisher) Logan. She grew up in Inglewood, Calif. She moved to Ashland in 1993 from Cypress, Calif.

Ms. Algie was an active member of the First Methodist Church, serving as Webmaster for the church Web page.

She was a member of the Southern Oregon Songwriters Association and Rogue Writers, Ink, a local writing club.

Survivors include a daughter, Lorraine P. Gascoigne, Benicia, Calif.; a son, Logan A., Playa del Rey, Calif.; a sister, Donna J. Logan, Phoenix; and two granddaughters.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland.

Virginia May Guthmiller
The funeral service for Virginia May Guthmiller will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland. Private interment will be at Eagle Point National cemetery.

Mrs. Guthmiller, 76, of Ashland, died Thursday (May 23, 2002) at her home.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

William ‘Bill’ Eli Roberts
The memorial service for William "Bill" Eli Roberts will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of Christ-Christian in Shady Cove. The Rev. Wayne Schermerhorn will officiate. Inurnment will be in Lane Memorial Park in Eugene.

Mr. Roberts, 70, of Prospect, died Friday (May 31, 2002) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to Church of Christ-Christian, c/o Missions Fund, 1620 Mill Creek Road, Prospect, OR 97536.

He was born June 5, 1931, in Klamath Falls. On April 29, 1951, in Cottage Grove, he married Eunice D. Chapman, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1954 from Springfield.

Mr. Roberts was a millwright and dry kiln operator for Boise Cascade in White City from 1972 to 1996. Since 1997, he was a long haul truck driver, most recently for Gordon Trucking.

He was a member of the Church of Christ-Christian in Shady Cove.

Mr. Roberts enjoyed hunting, water-skiing, travel and piloting small airplanes.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Christi H. Daniken, Central Point, and Linda R. Ray, Salem; a son, F. Allan Roberts, Ruckersville, Va.; a brother, Stanley W. Roberts, Springfield; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Janette Alexander.

Paul Raymond Suppes
The memorial service for Paul Raymond Suppes will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Church of the Nazarene in Medford. The Revs. Craig Rench and Kevin Gowland will officiate. The graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Eagle Point National cemetery.

Mr. Suppes, 86, of Medford, died Thursday (May 30, 2002) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene, Church Building Fund, 1974 E. McAndrews Road, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born July 17, 1915, in Cameron, Ohio, to John and Joanna Suppes. On June 25, 1949, in Jamestown, N.Y., he married Lois Steiner, who died in 2002. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1989 from Ohio.

Mr. Suppes was a hardware clerk.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Suppes attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Medford and enjoyed reading the Bible.

Survivors include a daughter, Anne Nicholson, Medford; two brothers, John, Rittman, Ohio, and Carl, Wooster, Ohio; three sisters, Bessie Nething, Hannibal, Ohio, Nora Boner, Shreve, Ohio, and Carrie Kirkland, Rittman, Ohio. She was preceded in death by a brother and seven sisters.

Thomas C. Overton
Thomas C. Overton, 63, of West Plains, Mo., formerly of the Rogue Valley, died May 21, 2002, at Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains, Mo.

The memorial service was held May 25 at Robertson Drago Funeral Home in West Plains, Mo. Interment was at South Fork cemetery in South Fork, Mo.

He was born March 23, 1939, in South Fork, Mo., to Albert "Ab" and Goldie (Carroll) Overton. On Nov. 13, 1956, in Ypsilanti, Mich., he married Arlene Turner. They later divorced. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1973, and lived in Shady Cove, White City, Gold Hill and Medford. On May 2, 2000, in Salem, Ark., he married JoAnn Thall, who survives.

Mr. Overton was a heavy equipment operator. He helped construct Highway 140, Lost Creek Dam and Applegate Dam. Before his retirement, he spent several years employed as an oil field and pipeline supervisor in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska.

He was a 32nd-degree Mason and a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Chuck, Roslyn, Wash.; four daughters, GayLynn Calhoun, Sharlon Roquemore, and Sidonna Steele, all of Eagle Point, and Tina Pelham, Creswell; two stepsons, Russell Thall, West Plains, Mo., and Ed Thall, Centralia, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Sherry Lockett, West Plains, Mo.; his mother, Goldie Nicks; 24 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie Sue Overton.

Everett ‘Ollie’ Oliver
Services for Everett "Ollie" Oliver who died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at Providence Medford Medical Center will be planned for a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to any veteran’s organization.

Mr. Oliver, 52, of Medford, was born June 17, 1949, in Aberdeen, Wash., the son of Everett P. Oliver and Evelyn Highley Oliver.

A parts manager for Pacific Detroit Diesel-Allison, Mr. Oliver was transferred to Medford five years ago. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged. He lived in Seaside most of his life and graduated from Astoria High School.

He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include two sons, Chris Oliver, Scappose, and Ben Oliver, Oregon City; a sister, Lori Oliver-Hudak, Seattle; a brother, Lynn Oliver, Custer, S.D.; mother Evelyn Oliver, Sequim, Wash.; and three grandsons.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.

Fred J. Gothard
The graveside service for Fred J. Gothard will be held at 9 a.m. Monday at the Eagle Point National cemetery Interment Shelter. The Rev. Mac McMillian of Table Rock Bible Church will officiate.

Mr. Gothard, 77, of Sams Valley, died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

He was born March 10, 1925, in Jamestown, W.Va., the son of Federick and Essie Gothard.

On Dec. 14, 1949, in Los Angeles, he married Ann Beler, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1987 from Bellflower, Calif.

He was an aerospace machinist in Southern California before retiring in 1980. He served in the U.S. Navy as a machinist’s mate second class.

Mr. Gothard was a member of Table Rock Bible Church. He enjoyed his family and tree farming.

Survivors, in addition to his spouse, include a son, Charles Gothard, Central Point; a daughter, Jeanette Gothard, Eagle Point; his mother Essie M. Gothard, Big Bear, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

James Paul Finigan III
No services are planned for James Paul Finigan III, 53, of Medford, who died Wednesday (May 29, 2002) at his home.

He was born March 5, 1949, in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of James Paul Jr. and Edith Finigan.

He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1996 from Carlsbad, Calif.

Survivors include a son, James Paul Finigan IV, Eagle Point; his mother, Edith Finigan, Eagle Point; a daughter, Camille Renee' Heckert, Lincoln, Neb.; and a brother, Harry Finigan, San Antonio, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Terry Ray Finigan.

Maire LaBrocca
The funeral mass for Maire LaBrocca, 70, of Medford, who died Thursday (May 30, 2002) at Providence Medford Medical Center, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Fourth and D streets, Jacksonville.

The Rev. Carmelo Mifsud will officiate. Conger-Morris Funeral Directors is handling the arrangements.

Hoyle Dillard ‘H.D.’ Medford
The funeral service for Hoyle Dillard "H.D." Medford will be at 1 p.m. today at Hillcrest Chapel in Medford. Pastors Bob Roth and Kevin Gowland of the First Church of the Nazarene will officiate.

Mr. Medford, 90, of White City, died Thursday (May 30, 2002) at his daughter’s home in Shady Cove.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene Building Fund, 1974 E. McAndrews Road, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born March 18, 1912, near Goodwater, Okla., to Dillard and Edie Medford. On Jan. 27, 1934, in Haworth, Okla., he married Verna Mae Williams, who died in March 2002.

Mr. Medford moved to the West Coast during World War II to work in defense efforts. He and his wife made a living cutting cross ties for the railroad. He was also a welder, and when he and his wife moved to Phoenix in 1949, they set up a garage/welding shop, specializing in installing trailer hitches. After his retirement, they moved back to Oklahoma, returning to Oregon in 1979 and settling in White City.

Mr. Medford developed a travel trailer with a telescoping top. The trailer was patented under the name Hi-Lo Travel Trailers.

He enjoyed fishing with his daughter and friends at Lost Creek Lake, Applegate Lake and Rocky Point.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Sweem, Shady Cove; a sister, Viola Bloodworth, Valliant, Okla.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Mae Roderick.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

Everett ‘Ollie’ Oliver
The memorial picnic for Everett "Ollie" Oliver, will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday in the C area at Stewart State Park.

Mr. Oliver, 52, of Medford, died Thursday (May 30, 2002) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.

Suzanne M. ‘Chelye’ Schuetze
The memorial service for Suzanne Michele "Chelye" Schuetze will be at 2 p.m. today at Warm Hearts Ranch, 302 W. Hilltop Road, Talent.

Ms. Schuetze, 40, of Grants Pass, died Tuesday (May 28, 2002) in Portland.

Memorial contributions may be made to any women’s advocacy association.

She was born March 30, 1962, in Kokomo, Ind., to Dietrich and Connye Sue (Lively) Schuetze. She graduated from San Francisco State University in 1985.

Ms. Schuetze was a sexual assault victim advocate with Asante Health Systems for two years.

She was a member of the Non-Commissioned Officer’s Association.

Survivors include her companion, Greg Clark, Grants Pass; and two sisters, Kimberly Clausen, Grants Pass, and Jennifer Schuetze, Colorado Springs, Colo.
