Janet "Sam" Stone
The memorial service for Janet "Sam" Stone will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, at Newman Center, in Eugene. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary. A celebration of life will be held on at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Newman Center.
Mrs. Stone, 52, of Springfield, died Saturday (July 27, 2002) of cancer.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or Greenhill Humane Society.
She was born on June 18, 1950, in Corvallis, daughter of Rugh Eleanor (Hess) Piche' and Albert H. Piche'. On Aug. 14, 1971, she married
Donald Stone, who survives.
Mrs. Stone grew up in Medford, attending elementary and high school here, and then graduated with honors from University of Oregon with a degree in education.
She worked as a coordinator at Career Services from 1989 to 1998, and then with Cram, Harder, Wells, Baron since May 1998.
She enjoyed her dogs, jogging, American history and popular culture, and spending time with her grandson, Michael.
She was affiliated with the Newman Center, and Pi Beta Phi sorority.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Jenni, Ann Arbor, Mich., and Katie, Springfield, Ore.; her parents, Bill and Eleanor Piche', Eugene; two brothers, William, Saratoga, Calif., and Terry, Milwaukie, Ore.; and one grandchild.

Kenneth Wallace
Kenneth Wallace, 89, of Shady Cove died Friday (July 26, 2002) at his home.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park.
Interment will be held at 2 p.m. at Eagle Point National VA cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park.

Born on Feb. 25, 1913, at New Castle, Penn., Mr. Wallace was married
to Christine Tonkin in October 1945 at Plymouth, England.
He has lived in the Rogue Valley since 1959, moving from California.
Mr. Wallace joined the U.S. Army in 1934, serving in World War II and in Korea. He was stationed in Iceland, Panama, Europe and Korea.
On D-Day, he was in the first wave on Omaha Beach, then walked and fought across Europe. His name is on the "Wall of Heroes" Jerusalem for helping liberate the Nazi death camps.
He was also on Pork Chop Hill in Korea.
Mr. Wallace retired from the Army in 1955 as a Master Sergeant, then ranched and worked summers at Crater Lake National Park.
His interests included traveling on trains, woodworking and art.
Survivors include three daughters, Margaret Murko of White City, Cheryl Morehead of Las Vegas and Ruth Temple of Eagle Point; three sons, Art Tabb of Tacoma, Wash., Paul Wallace of Clackamas and Pete Wallace of Vancouver, Wash.; 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 10 great great- grandchildren.
His wife preceded him in death in 1992.
Jack Donal Shafer
Jack Donal Shafer, 67, of Medford died Sunday (July 28, 2002) at his home.
Private family services were held.

Mr. Shafer was born on Feb. 2, 1935, in Fairmont, W. Va., to Harold and Inez Shafer.
He moved to Josephine County in 1976 from La Mirada, Calif. and lived there before he moved to Medford in 1995.
He was a maintenance engineer, last working for an apartment complex in Medford. He was employed by Quantum Residential.
Mr. Shafer enjoyed antiques, old cars, cooking and golfing.
Survivors include three sons, Rick Kale of Garberville, Calif., Bob Kale of Merlin, Matthew Shafer of Costa Mesa, Calif.; one daughter, Jennifer Shafer of Mill Valley, Calif.; his mother, Inez Plymate of Tucson, Ariz.; and three brothers, Bill Shafer of Wilts, Calif., Ron Shafer of Pennsylvania and George Shafer of Tucson.

Bonnie May Wells
Bonnie May Wells, 48, of Eagle Point died Sunday (July 28, 2002).
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Conger-Morris Chapel in Medford.
Born on June 23, 1954 in Phoenix, N.Y., to Donald and Katherine Trudell. On Feb. 16, 1991, she was married
to Mark Wells in Shaniko.
Mrs. Wells moved to Oregon 22 years ago from upstate New York and to Eagle Point one year ago.
She worked in hardware retail sales and enjoyed horseback riding, flower gardening, quilting and collecting antiques.
Survivors include her husband, Mark Wells of Eagle Point; four brothers, Henry Wells, Vernon Wells and George Wells, all of upstate New York, and Danny Wells of Alabama; six sisters, Florence, Mary, Linda, Karen, Debbie and Tina, all of upstate New York; and his mother, Katherine Trudell of upstate New York.
He was preceded in death by her father.

Tim M. Keffer, Sr.
Tim M. Keffer, Sr., 70, of Oscoda, Mich., died Saturday (July 27, 2002) in Lincoln, Mich.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hillcrest Chapel with David Campbell officiating.
Mr. Keffer was born May 7, 1932, in McLean, Tex., and married
Cloey L. Poiteuint in April 1962 in Arkansas.
He attended Klamath Union High School and was executive director of Koletta Air and at Rosenbaum Aviation of Medford until 1986.
He enjoyed fishing and flying. He was in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 until 1956.
Survivors include his wife, Cloey Keffer of Oscoda, Mich.; three sons, Tim Keffer, Jr. of Royal Oak, Mich., Jim Keffer of Dungee, Mich., and Todd Hodges of Oscoda, Mich.; two daughters, Kim Oberhofer of Ypsilanti, Mich., and Judy Willits of Medford; two sisters, Nina and Lyvona, both of Klamath Falls; and five grandchildren.

B. Kay Sterling
The memorial service for B. Kay Sterling will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Eagle Point National cemetery interment shelter. Chaplain Paul Hagedorn of Providence Hospice will officiate. Inurnment will be at the Eagle Point National cemetery.
Mrs. Sterling, 63, of Medford, died Saturday (July 27, 2002) in her home.

She was born on March 12, 1939, in Tacoma, Wash., the daughter of Sidney and Laura Coggin.
Mrs. Sterling had lived in the Rogue Valley since 1968, when she moved from Graham, Wash. On Jan. 24, 1998, in Gold Hill, she married
Jack A. Sterling, who survives.
She was a legal secretary for 43 years, retiring in 2000.
A member of the Eagles, she enjoyed the outdoors, golf, listening to jazz music and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include her daughter, Kristine Phillips, of Central Point; her brothers, Bill and Jim Coggin, and sisters Jannette Melton and Arlene Nice, all of Washington state; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and step-father, Ivan Roscoe Dalton.

Iris M. Johnson
Iris M. Johnson, 79, of Applegate, died Thursday (July 25, 2002) at Three Rivers Community Hospital.
No public services are planned.
She was born Iris Mary Gibbs on Feb. 11, 1923, in London, England.
In December 1944, in Wymouth, England, she married
Carl I. Johnson, who survives. They moved to Grants Pass from Ontario, Calif., in 1976.
She was a clerk at McLain’s Drug Store for 12 years. She moved to Applegate in 1989 after she retired.
Johnson was formerly a member of St. Luke Episcopal Church in Grants Pass. She enjoyed cooking, knitting, playing cards and traveling all over the world.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two daughters, Marilyn Snell, of Barstow, Calif., and Vivian Tibbetts of Vermont; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Carol Belle Lyon
The funeral for Carol Belle Lyon will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Memory Gardens Chapel, Medford. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
Mrs. Lyon, 70, of Central Point, died Saturday (July 27, 2002) at her home.

She was born July 11, 1932, in Bandon, the daughter of Eric Peter and Adeline Otillia (Anderson) Osberg. On Aug. 31, 1951, in Minden, Nev., she married
Ray Lyon, who survives.
They moved to the Rogue Valley from Clipper Mills, Calif., in 1965. In 1997, they moved to Myrtle Point, returning to Central Point in 2001.
She was a homemaker and a seasonal fruit packer for Pinnacle Fruit Co. in Medford. She also owned and operated Table Top Nursery on Blackwell Road in Central Point.
She was an avid gardener and enjoyed crocheting, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Kelly Lyon, Myrtle Point; three daughters, Sherrie Ogier, Las Vegas, Terrie Callahan, Central Point, and Rustie Lyon, Eugene; a sister, Nancy Borwege, Sun City, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Melinda Ann Walters
No service is planned for Melinda Ann Walters, 42, of Grants Pass, who died Saturday (July 27, 2002) at her home. Friends may pay their respects from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Lundberg’s L.B. Hall Funeral Home.
She was born Dec. 7, 1959, in San Jose, Calif. She moved to Grants Pass 32 years ago, from San Jose, and worked at the R-Haus Restaurant.
She enjoyed music and her grandsons, and was known as a peacemaker.
Survivors include three daughters, Melissa Bleser Cremeans, Medford, Nichole Bleser Helms, Redding, Calif., and Kyrie Walters, Grants Pass; her father, Russ Walters, Grants Pass; a brother, Daniel Walters, Grants Pass; two sisters, Debra McPherson, Baltic, Conn., and Cindy Walters, Honolulu, Hawaii; and two grandsons. She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Walters.

Elmo L. McGraw
Elmo L. McGraw, 85, of Medford, died Friday (July 26, 2002) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

He was born June 21, 1917, in Medford to Tom and Blanche McGraw of Phoenix. He attended Medford schools, graduating from Medford Senior High School in 1935. On March 14, 1936, in Central Point, he married
Wilma M. Hood, who survives.
Mr. McGraw was employed in the timber industry as a lumber broker in California and Oregon until his retirement.
He enjoyed landscape oil painting and was interested in horticulture, particularly Northwest alpine plants.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Judith A. Barr, Medford; a son, Thomas E. McGraw, Medford; a sister, Leilla Sparks, Phoenix; a brother, Merle E. McGraw, Eagle Point; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Robert M. Henderson
The graveside service for Robert M. Henderson will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Eagle Point National cemetery. Chaplain Earl Best of Providence Hospital will officiate.
Mr. Henderson, 82, of Medford, died Saturday (July 27, 2002) at his home.
He was born on Dec. 15, 1919, in Portland, a son of Maurice and Willetta Greene Henderson. On May 1, 1980, in Medford, he married
Marilyn Williams, who survives.
Mr. Henderson went to school in the Portland area and attended the University of Washington. He worked as a real estate broker and owner of Trust Reality.
He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps in the South Pacific.
Mr. Henderson enjoyed fishing, boating, camping and playing with his dogs. He was affiliated with Alcoholics Anonymous.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three stepsons, Michael Wiltsey, Tigard, Daniel Wiltsey, White City, and Robert Chadwick, Seattle; two sisters, Eleanor Ellis, Bayfield, Colo., and Marian De Tray, Hilo, Hawaii; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
