Frances M. Garren
The memorial service for Frances M. Garren will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Conger-Morris Medford Chapel. Committal will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Medford.
Mrs. Garren, 80, of Medford, died Sunday (Aug. 11, 2002) at her home.

She was born Frances Margaret Kussman on Nov. 2, 1921, in Astoria, the daughter of Nick and Marion Kussman. On April 5, 1942, in Seattle, she married
Paul W. Garren, who died in 1997.
She had lived in the Rogue Valley for 50 years, moving here from Roseburg.
Mrs. Garren graduated from Astoria High School in 1939, and then from Emanuel Hospital in Portland with a degree in nursing in 1942. She was a lieutenant in the U.S. Army at Fort Warden in Seattle, serving as a medical nurse.
She worked in Astoria and Roseburg, and after moving to Medford in 1952, she worked at the Community Hospital and Sacred Heart Hospital as a night supervisor. She helped open the new Providence Hospital as director of nursing and remained in this position until her retirement in 1984.
Mrs. Garren enjoyed traveling, gardening, camping, and spending time with her friends and family.
Survivors include a son, Paul W. Jr., Medford; a daughter, Cheryl L. Knapp, Oregon City; a brother, Robert Kussman, Olympia, Wash.; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Delbert Gene Cantrall
The memorial service for Delbert Gene Cantrall will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Memory Gardens Mortuary Chapel in Medford. Inurnment will follow in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
Mr. Cantrall, 72, of Jacksonville, died Sunday (Aug. 11, 2002) at his residence.

He was born on May 19, 1930, in Medford. On May 11, 1970, in Jacksonville, he married
Helen Jeannine Saner, who survives. He lived in the Rogue Valley for most of his life.
Mr. Cantrall was a fifth-generation member of the Cantrall-Dorris families. He received his associate degree from the Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls and served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1952. He was a pioneer in the broadcast and cable television industry, working for California-Oregon Broadcasting Inc.
He was the first voice heard on the air at KOTI in Klamath Falls in 1956. He was instrumental in constructing television stations and developing cable systems in Northern California and Oregon. He served as general manager for Southern Oregon Cable and Crestview Cable. He was president of the Oregon Cable Association, and last month was named the 18th recipient of the Oregon Cable Telecommuni-cations Association’s William B. Smullin Presidential Award.
He enjoyed flying and held a commercial pilot’s license. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting and genealogy. He and his wife rode their motorcycles and traveled to all 50 states.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Larry Lee, Hillsboro; two daughters, Shelley Rae Edwards, Sacramento, Calif., and Julie Renee Ford, Round Mountain, Calif.; four stepsons, Bradley Everett Dill, Medford, Stephen Nicholas Dill, White City, John Gregory Dill, Beaverton, and Lynn Allen Dill, Seattle; 17 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorris Huth.

Thelma E. Haynes

Katheryn Louise Moses
The service for former Medford resident Katheryn Louise Moses, 97, of Salem, will be announced at a later date.
Mrs. Moses died Thursday (Aug. 1, 2002).
She was born July 6, 1905, near Spokane Wash., the daughter of Will and Eudora Cook.
In 1924, she married
Herschel Morris, who died in 1960. In 1967, she married
George Moses, who died in 1969.
She was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church, attending St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Medford from 1943 to 1998. She was a member of the altar guild and sang in the choir.
She volunteered for the American Red Cross and at Providence Medford Medical Center.
Survivors include her children, Dolores Bell, of Salem, and Dr. Neil Morris, of Springfield; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister and a grandson.

Luisa Elworthy
Luisa Elworthy, 57, of Grants Pass, died Thursday (Aug. 1, 2002) at her home. No services will be held.

She was born May 20, 1945, in Colima, Colima, Mexico. On Dec. 12, 1980, in Las Vegas, she married
Ted Elworthy, who survives. They moved to Grants Pass in 1982 from Lakewood, Calif.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Lee Azpiroz, Eugene.

David Hollingsworth
The memorial service for David Kenneth Hollingsworth will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Bethel Assembly of God Church, 1225 E. McAndrews Road, Medford, with Pastor Tim Olson officiating.
Mr. Hollingsworth, 45, of Central Point, died Thursday (Aug. 1, 2002) at his home.
He was born May 19, 1957, in San Jose, Calif. On June 19, 1988, in San Jose, he married
the former Rhonda Massey, who survives.
He had lived in the Rogue Valley since 1998, moving here from Missouri.
He worked as a canteen service chief for the Veterans Affairs Domiciliary in White City for four years and for the VA a total of 10 years. He was a member of the Bethel Assembly of God Church. He also was a member of the Ashland City Band for two years, playing trumpet.
He enjoyed stamp and coin collecting, camping, fishing and backpacking.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Brandon, of Central Point; his parents, Kenneth and Carolyn, of Eugene; a brother, Jeff, of California; and a sister, Laurie Rinaldi, of Hawaii.

Walter Schemenau
Walter Schemenau, 92, of Medford, died July 21, 2002 at a local foster care home. Burial will be at Eagle Point National cemetery.
He was born Feb. 28, 1910, in Germany. He was a barber and served in the U.S. Army.

Georgia ‘Jo’ Adamson
The memorial service for Georgia "Jo" Rose Adamson will be held on at 11 a.m. Friday at Eagle Point National cemetery. Chap. John Braund of Rogue Valley Hospice will officiate.
Mrs. Adamson, 71, of White City, died Sunday (July 28, 2002) at Hearthstone, in Medford.
She was born Georgia Rose Landing on Nov. 15, 1930, in Phoenix. On May 29, 1978, she married
Varnel Don Adamson of White City, who survives.
Mrs. Adamson lived in the Rogue Valley until 1965, when she moved to Redding, Calif. She returned to the area in 1994.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Moose Lodge and VFW Ladies Auxiliary #5726.
She enjoyed gardening and crafts, and was an avid bowler.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Julia Ann Wealand and Mary Rose Jimeson, both of Redding; a brother, Don Landing, Medford; three sisters, Irene Gunter, Medford, Ellen McCarty, Medford, and Mildred Whitaker, Montreat, N.C.; and seven grandchildren.

Vernon Carroll Wood
The memorial service for Vernon Carroll Wood will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, at Central Point Masonic Lodge #135 A.F. and A.M. Chap. William Hare of the Ashland Masonic Lodge will officiate.
Mr. Wood, 71, of Medford, died Saturday (July 27, 2002) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

He was born on Sept. 12, 1930, in Senton, Texas, son of Luther and Elizabeth Wood. On Feb. 22, 1947, in Yuma, Ariz., he married
Loretta Joyce, who preceded him in death. In 1989, he married
Betty, who preceded him in death in 1997.
He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1992 from Olivehurst, California.
Mr. Wood worked as a master craftsman of the trades, and was given an honorary doctorate for metallurgy from the University of California at Berkeley. He was a member and past master of the Central Point Masonic Lodge #135 A.F. and A.M., and also was a member of the Eastern Star.
He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing.
Survivors include a son, Vernon Michael, Granite Bay, Calif.; two daughters, Linda Meek and Judy Trujillo, both of Richmond, Calif.; four brothers, Rufus, Ala., Albert, Fairfield, Calif., (Arthur) Daniel, Seattle, and Bernard, San Bernardino, Calif.; two sisters, Letti Mae Edwards, Tacoma, Wash., and Margie Sills, Salem; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his two wives, two sisters and one brother.

Mary Ann Straney
The memorial service for Mary Ann Straney will be held at 5 p.m., Saturday, at Phoenix Church of Christ. Pastor Staunton will officiate.
Mrs. Straney, 74, of Ashland, died Friday (July 26, 2002) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

She was born on June 10, 1928, in Oklahoma City, Okla., a daughter of Clyde and Nellie Hart. On May 10, 1980, in Reno, Nev., she married
Richard C. Straney, who survives.
Mrs. Straney moved to the Rogue Valley in 1973 from Lewiston, Mont.
She worked at the House of Fabric in Medford, retiring after 20 years.
She enjoyed sewing, picnics in the mountains, and her family, and was affiliated with the 55 Alive Group with Applegate Christian Fellowship.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Joseph Madeira, Lynden, Wash.; four daughters, Joyce Madeira, Redwood City, Calif., Cheryl Gillen, Lewiston, Mont., JoAnn Gann, Redwood City, Calif., and Tamela McClearen, Medford; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Clyde Wesley Hart.
