Marie Agnes Benton
The memorial service for Marie Agnes Benton will be at 9 a.m. today at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Shady Cove. The Rev. William McCue will officiate. Inurnment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford.

Mrs. Benton, 82, of Central Point, died Monday (Sept. 16, 2002) at The Glass Barn foster home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Home Care Hospice, 1225 W. State St., Olean, NY 14760.

She was born Marie Wyzykiewicz on Nov. 26, 1919, in Buffalo, N.Y. She married Lloyd M. Benton, who died in July 2002. She moved to the Rogue Valley five years ago from Allegany, N.Y., where she had lived for 35 years.

Mrs. Benton enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include three daughters, Judith M. Ring, Rogue River, Joyce Stark, Gladstone, and Jeanette C. Tuk, Amherst, N.Y.; two sons, Rick, Wakefield, R.I., and William, St. Joseph, Mo.; a brother, Stephan Bowers, Horseheads, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Charles ‘Chuck’ F. O’Donnell
The funeral service for Charles "Chuck" F. O’Donnell will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Glendale. Interment will be in Hawthorne Memorial Gardens.

Mr. O’Donnell, 72, of Azalea, died Sunday (Sept. 15, 2002) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1976 Reuben Road, Glendale, OR 97442, or the American Heart Association, Oregon Affiliate, 1425 N.E. Irving St., Suite 100, Portland, OR 97232-4201.

He was born Aug. 11, 1930, in Encanto, Calif. On June 9, 1982, in Las Vegas, he married Margaret Crowley, who survives. They moved to Azalea 10 years.

During the 1940s and ’50s, Mr. O’Donnell logged in Stumpville (Canyonville) and Glendale. He was part of the Mohole Drilling Project, the first deep-sea oil well. John Steinbeck researched and wrote about this project.

He had attended the Glendale Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses for the past five years.

Mr. O’Donnell was a master builder and craftsman, and enjoyed reading Louis L’Amour and taking his grandchildren riding on the tractor.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Edward Armstrong, Portland; five daughters, Cheri Ehly, Lakeside, Lindy Carmichael, Oceanside, Calif., Brenda Smalling, Hutchinson, Kan., Chamerie Trejo, Glendora, Calif., and Carla La Chase, Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Friends may pay their respects from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors, Grants Pass.

George A. Hall
The memorial service for George A. Hall will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at New Apostolic Church, 2121 Delta Waters Road. Evangelist Keonig will officiate.

Mr. Hall, 80, of Central Point, died Tuesday (Sept. 17, 2002) at Hearthstone.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Research Alliance of Oregon, P.O. Box 10051, Portland, OR 97296-0051, or the American Cancer Society, Jackson County Unit, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

He was born Dec. 3, 1921, in Newton, Ohio. He married Anna Reuter, who survives.

Mr. Hall worked for the City of Grants Pass and the Josephine County Landfill. He lived in Grants Pass for 35 years and moved to Central Point in 2001.

He enjoyed fishing, golfing and gardening.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include five stepchildren, Cresta Lee, Grants Pass, Frank and Dennis Gallegos, both Williams, Michael Knothe, Medford, and Stephen Knothe, in California; a brother, Gene, in Ohio; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

Viola M. Cox
The memorial service for Viola M. Cox will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Grants Pass. Pastor Don Carlson will officiate.

Mrs. Cox, 89, of Grants Pass, died Wednesday (Sept. 18, 2002) at her home. Private interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Grants Pass.

She was born July 16, 1913, in Fairmont, Okla., to Fred and Olga Woelke. On Nov. 4, 1961, in La Crescenta, Calif., she married Thomas Cox, who died in 1978. She moved to Grants Pass in 1980 from Glendale, Calif.

While living in California, Mrs. Cox volunteered with the Girl Scouts and Brownies.

She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and the church Altar Guild. Mrs. Cox enjoyed traveling and painting.

Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Ward, Grants Pass; and a brother, Walter Woelke, Ambrose, Ga.

Arrangements: Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home, Grants Pass.

Allen Ray Cone
Allen Ray Cone, 61, of Federal Way, Wash., formerly of the Rogue Valley, died Tuesday (Sept. 17, 2002) at his home. Interment will be at Eagle Point National cemetery.

He was born Aug. 8, 1941, in Klamath Falls, to Delbert Edward and Laurene Elizabeth (Kerfoot) Cone. In 1959, he graduated from what is now South Medford High School.

Mr. Cone spent 24 years in the U.S. Army. After he retired, he went to college and earned a degree in the environmental field.

Survivors include his wife, Wendy; two sons, Matthew and Eric; his mother, Laurene Cone, Medford; a sister, Gayla Eckis, Pendleton; and two grandchildren.

Arrangements: Bonney-Watson Funeral Home, Federal Way, Wash.

John Lawrence Stordahl
The graveside service for John Lawrence Stordahl will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Washington Memorial Park, 16445 Pacific Highway South, Seattle. Pastor Jon Engstrom will officiate.

Mr. Stordahl, 62, of Gold Hill and Seattle, died Tuesday (Sept. 17, 2002) in Seattle.

He was born May 31, 1940, in Seattle, to John and Dorothy (Bliss) Stordahl. He graduated from West Seattle High School in 1958. He also graduated from Lutheran Bible Institute in 1963, Western Baptist Bible College in 1972, and from what is now Southern Oregon University in 1979.

Mr. Stordahl helped in churches and with counseling in Christian camps. He was a Christian camp counselor at Gold Hill Christian Church.

He enjoyed singing hymns, playing guitar and writing.

Survivors include two sons, Caleb and Timothy; a daughter, Christine Wenzel; his mother, Dorothy Stordahl; two sisters, Nona Douglas and Janet Gerking; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Rhonda Rife.

Arrangements: Yarington’s Funeral Home, Seattle.

Roseann Juliet Stone
Roseann Juliet Stone, 81, of Medford, died Tuesday (Sept. 17, 2002) at Rogue Valley Manor. A private service will be held.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born May 15, 1921, in Los Angeles, to Francis and Martha Taylor. She attended San Diego State University. In 1954, in San Diego, she married Irving Rodney Stone, who preceded her in death.

At age 52, she earned an advanced degree in counseling and psychology from Chapman University.

Mrs. Stone worked for Family Services of Orange County as well as in marriage and family counseling. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 2000 from Orange County, Calif.

She was a member of "Women For" and the League of Women Voters. Mrs. Stone enjoyed politics and world events, literature and cinema, walking and bridge.

Survivors include two daughters, Joan Wilkerson, Redwood City, Calif., and Martha Moore, Santa Fe Springs, Calif.; a stepson, Samuel Stone, San Diego; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Santiago-Stone; a brother, John Taylor; and a grandson.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives and Crematory.

JoAnne H. Dickinson
JoAnne H. Dickinson, 75, of Phoenix, formerly of Grants Pass, died Sept. 13, 2002, at her home. A private service will be held.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent DePaul, P.O. Box 1663, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born April 8, 1927, in Chicago, to Michael and Jeanne Vanetta. On March 3, 1951, in Robbinsdale, Minn. she married George H. Dickinson, who died in 1996.

Mrs. Dickinson was a lab tech for Grants Pass Clinic and Josephine Memorial Hospital.

She was a member of St. Anne parish in Grants Pass.

Survivors include a son, Jeff, in Hawaii; a daughter, Trudy Dickinson, Medford; and four grandchildren.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Cecilia Mary Shaw
The funeral for Cecilia Mary Shaw will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Hope Christian Church in Central Point. Dr. Aaron Veach will officiate. The graveside service will follow at Eagle Point National cemetery.

Mrs. Shaw, 76, of Phoenix, died Friday (Sept. 13, 2002) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Asante Hospice Service, 2825 E. Barnett Road, Medford, OR 97504, or Southern Oregon Humane Society, 2910 Table Rock Road, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Jan. 20, 1926, in Los Angeles, to Anton and Lucia Agstenberger. On Jan. 12, 1947, in Los Angeles, she married Richard Shaw, who preceded her in death. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1962 from Long Beach, Calif.

Mrs. Shaw worked in the admitting department at Rogue Valley Medical Center, retiring in 1989.

She was an avid reader and writer, and enjoyed her dog, spending time with her friends and trips to Reno, Nev.

Survivors include a daughter, Rebecca Sutter, Central Point; two sons, John, Ruch, and Timothy, Butte Falls; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Michael and Donald; and one grandson.

Friends may pay their respects from 9 to 11 a.m. today at Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, 550 Business Park Drive, Medford.

Wilford ‘Bill’ Sights
The graveside service for Wilford "Bill" Woodrow Sights will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Antioch cemetery in Central Point. Pastor Kenne Horton of Rogue Valley Christian Church will officiate.

Mr. Sights, 86, of Medford, died Friday (Sept. 13, 2002) at his home.

He was born July 9, 1916, in Stephens County, Wash., to Bruster and Marie Sights. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1923 from Canada. On Oct. 1, 1966, in Las Vegas, he married Irene Elizabeth Woodard, who preceded him in death.

Mr. Sights was a security officer for the Federal Civil Service System.

He enjoyed reading magazines, books, watching TV and taking walks.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives and Crematory.

Sarah A. Edwards
The funeral service for Sarah A. Edwards will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Beaverton Christian Church. The graveside service will be at 1:15 p.m. Friday at Siskiyou Memorial Park, Medford.

Mrs. Edwards, 94, formerly of Medford, died Thursday (Sept. 12, 2002) in a Portland hospital.

She was born Sept. 18, 1907, in Streator, Ill. In 1929, she married Niram "Nine" Ellis. They later divorced. In 1950, she married Edgar Edwards, who preceded her in death. She lived from 1929 to 1954 in Medford, where she worked for City Sanitary Service for about 10 years. She moved to Beaverton in 1954.

Mrs. Edwards was an account dispatcher for Kisky Foods in Portland, retiring in 1975.

She was the first woman to join and help form the Women’s Sheriff’s Posse of Medford, and she rode in rodeos and parades.

Mrs. Edwards was a member of Beaverton Christian Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Diana B. Davis, Portland; a sister, Anne Henikoff, Escondido, Calif.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Pegg, Paxson and Springer Chapel, Beaverton.

Erville Joan Hein
The funeral service for Erville Joan Hein will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Eagle Point Bible Church. Private interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.

Ms. Hein, 70, of Eagle Point, died Saturday (Sept. 14, 2002) at her home.

She was born Erville Joan Andersen on Feb. 29, 1932, in Harlan, Iowa, to David and Veral (Parker) Andersen. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1961 from Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Ms. Hein had managed the Rogue Valley Florist Shop in Medford since 1986.

She was a former member and Sunday school teacher at Community Bible Church in Eagle Point. She was active in 4-H and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Ms. Hein enjoyed gardening, cooking, antiques and traveling.

Survivors include three sons, Roger, Eagle Point, and James and Byron, both Central Point; three daughters, Ellen Wright and Janice Krause, both Eagle Point, and Victoria Edwards, in Montana; three brothers, James and Vernon Andersen, both White City, and Alva Andersen, Albany; a sister, Vivian Ohl, Woodbine, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Friends may pay their respects from 1 to 7:30 p.m. today at Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.
