Creighton ‘Swede’ Larson
The memorial service for Creighton "Swede" Larson will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at Memory Gardens Chapel in Medford. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Mr. Larson, 84, of Ashland, died Saturday (Sept. 21, 2002) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lions Sight and Hearing, c/o Blind Center, 228 N. Holly St., Medford, OR 97501.

He was born Oct. 10, 1917, in Mindenmines, Mo., to Harold and Alice (Berteau) Larson. On Dec. 5, 1944, in Pittsburg, Kan., he married Norma Hood, who died in 1989. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1945.

Mr. Larson worked for Pierce Freight Lines for many years before becoming a partner and owner of I-5 Trucklines until his retirement.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded two battle stars.

Mr. Larson was an organizer and director of Jefferson State Bank in Medford. He served as president of the Crater Lions and was one of the founders of the Lions Sight and Hearing Center. He was president of the Medford Safety Council, division chairman of the United Fund, a member of Gov. Hatfield’s Life Saver Committee and president of the Medford Toastmasters.

He enjoyed golfing, especially at Cedar Links, traveling, including trips to Europe and Hawaii, and hunting and fishing.

Survivors include a son, Richard D., Medford; a daughter, Sandra Larson, in Indiana; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Willie Mae Farr
The graveside service for Willie Mae Farr will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford. Pastor George Nye of Eastwood Baptist Church in Medford will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park’s Phoenix Lawn Crypt.

Ms. Farr, 78, of Medford, died Saturday (Sept. 21, 2002) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to Eastwood Baptist Church, 675 N. Keeneway Drive, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Aug. 6, 1924, in Seguin, Texas, to Holford and Lola Farr. She moved to the Rogue Valley more than 30 years ago.

Ms. Farr was a supervisor for Bell Telephone for 30 years.

She was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church and the Telephone Pioneers in Medford.

Survivors include three cousins.

Donald Claude Wolfe
The memorial service with military honors for Donald Claude Wolfe will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Eagle Point National cemetery.

Mr. Wolfe, 91, of Eagle Point, died Sunday (Sept. 22, 2002) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Asante Hospice, 2825 Barnett Road, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born April 27, 1911, in Macdoel, Calif., to Leo and Lulu (Maust) Wolfe. He lived in the Rogue Valley as a young man until he joined the U.S. Army. On April 11, 1942, in Dunsmuir, Calif., he married Thelma L. Conley, who died in 2001.

Mr. Wolfe was a switchman for Southern Pacific Railroad for 35 years. He moved to Ashland in 1967 and lived there until he moved to Roseville, Calif. He returned to the Rogue Valley from Roseville in 1987.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Wolfe was a life member of the Elks Lodge, and a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He enjoyed golf and was a fan of the San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners baseball teams.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Millard, Eagle Point; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Robert Raymond Guches
The memorial service for Robert Raymond Guches will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Applegate Christian Fellowship in Ruch. Earl Best will officiate.

Mr. Guches, 64, of Ruch, died Saturday (Sept. 21, 2002) in Butte Falls.

Memorial contributions may be made to Southern Oregon Flyers (Gymnastics) (SOFI), 5877 Crater Lake Highway, Central Point, OR 97502, or Dogs for the Deaf, 10175 Wheeler Road, Central Point, OR 97502.

He was born Dec. 2, 1937, in Medford, to Raymond Robert and Ethel Blanche Guches. He attended Griffin Creek Elementary School and graduated from Jacksonville High School. On Dec. 14, 1957, in Reno, Nev., he married Shirley A. Schultz, who survives.

Mr. Guches was a logger and partner in G.M.W. Logging Co.

He served eight years in the National Guard.

Mr. Guches was a member of the Oregon Logging Association.

He enjoyed the outdoors and working in the woods, spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends, hunting and fishing, and helping others.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Daniel Robert, Central Point, and Dennis Mark, Redmond, Wash.; a daughter, Deborah Rene' Preston, Burbank, Calif.; two sisters, Ramona Elrod, Medford, and Afton Brabham, Eugene; a brother, Allen, Medford; and seven grandchildren.

Friends may pay their respects from noon to 7 p.m. Thursday at Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

Willard E. ‘Buck’ Buchanan
The memorial service for Willard E. "Buck" Buchanan will be at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 29, at Tualatin Hills Christian Church, 23050 S.W. Boones Ferry Road, Tualatin. Loren Doty will officiate.

Mr. Buchanan, 77, of Bremerton, Wash., formerly of Medford, died Sept. 8, 2002, at Bay Pointe Retirement Community.

He was born June 18, 1925, in Crane, to Joseph and Edith Buchanan. He graduated from Medford High School in 1946. On Aug. 31, 1946, in Reno, Nev., he married Margaret Strahan, who survives.

Mr. Buchanan worked for U.S. National Bank of Oregon, retiring in 1981.

He served as a paratrooper, private first class, in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Buchanan was a charter member of the Crater Lions Club and a member of the Elks.

He enjoyed photography, travel and music.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Earl, Bremerton, Wash.; a daughter, Claudia Peetz, Poulsbo, Wash.; a brother, Donald, Longview, Wash.; two sisters, Deana Hukill, Jacksonville, and Delta Jensen, Palmer, Alaska; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son, Gregory.

Elsie Marie Lucas
Elsie Marie Lucas, 89, formerly of Medford, died Saturday (Sept. 21, 2002) at Curry Manor in Roseburg. Arrangements will be announced by Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives and Crematory Dick Manuel Medeiros

Dick Manuel Medeiros, 66, of Eagle Point, died Saturday (Sept. 21, 2002) at his home. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Oregon Lung Association, 9320 S.W. Barbur Blvd., Suite 140, Portland, OR 97219-5481.

He was born Dec. 2, 1935, in Azores, Portugal, to Jose Correia and Elmina (Correia) Medeiros. He earned a bachelor’s degree in poultry. On Sept. 4, 1966, in Reno, Nev., he married Christina Doyle, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1972 from California.

Mr. Medeiros worked for Willamette Egg Farms for 29 years, retiring as general manager in 1996.

He served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Jim Medeiros, Shady Cove, and Joe Manco, Lamar, Mo.; and two daughters, Tammy Adams and Sandra Hunt, both Medford.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

Aulda Johnson Williams
The memorial service for Aulda Johnson Williams will be at 3 p.m. Oct. 5, at the Shady Cove Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Her son, Jan Williams, will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Johnson Family Pioneer cemetery in Shady Cove.

Mrs. Williams, 84, of Shady Cove, died Wednesday (Sept. 18, 2002) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the World Wide Ministry of Jehovah’s Witnesses at any local Kingdom Hall.

She was born Sept. 23, 1917, in Medford, to James F. and Rachael E. (Matthews) Johnson. Her great-grandparents, Mrs. and Mrs. John Matthews and Mr. and Mrs. Francis Johnson came to the Rogue Valley by wagon train in 1853.

On June 22, 1934, in Shady Cove, she married Von Williams, who died in 1997.

Mrs. Williams was a homemaker and a lifelong Rogue Valley resident.

She was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses and spent more than 50 years as a Bible teacher.

Survivors include two sons, Grant L., Gold Hill, and Jan J., Shady Cove; a daughter, Rochelle Davis, Prospect; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Earla Gwen Williams; a sister, Alice Johnson; and a brother, Orris Johnson.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

Larry L. Stoner
Larry L. Stoner, 74, of Central Point, died Saturday (Sept. 14, 2002) at his home. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center, Hospice, 2600 Siskiyou Blvd., Suite 100, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born March 19, 1928, in Vernal, Utah, to Lee and Lucille Stoner. He attended elementary school in Craig, Colo., and graduated from high school in Hot Springs, N.M.

On July 5, 1945, in Hot Springs, he married Alma Luella King, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1964 from Carson City, Nev.

Mr. Stoner owned and operated Stoner & Son Construction Company.

He enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Rayetta Ament, Loretta Hoopes and Betty Childers; a son, Larry Lee; a sister, Betheen Fowler; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Lee Olson; and a brother, Ray Stoner.

E.J. ‘Jay’ Shaffer
E.J. "Jay" Shaffer, 76, of Central Point, died Sept. 10, 2002, at Providence Medford Medical Center. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501, or the Alzheimer’s Association, 131 N.W. 21st Ave., Portland, OR 97209.

He was born Dec. 28, 1925, in Johnstown, Pa., to Aaron Walter and Catherine Myrtle (Custer) Shaffer. He moved to Sams Valley in the early 1970s. On May 15, 1976, in Carson City, Nev., he married Jeanne C. Wildenberg, who died in February 2002.

Mr. Shaffer was a self-employed machinist.

He was a member of the Horseless Carriage Club of America, The Antique Automobile Club of America, Southern California Masons — Al Malaikai Temple, and Rogue Valley Street Rods.

Survivors include a son, Joseph, Irving, Texas; three brothers, Lewis, Bisbee, Ariz., Harold, Johnstown, Pa., and Niel, Cockeysville, Mo.; a sister, Betty Kiser, Winter Park, Fla.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ethel; and a brother, Homer.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation and Funeral Care, Central Point.

June Edmiston
June Edmiston, 85, of Grants Pass, died Wednesday (Sept. 18, 2002) at her home. A private service will be held.

Memorial contributions may be made to Asante Three Rivers Hospice, 500 S.W. Ramsey Ave., Grants Pass, OR 97527.

She was born March 15, 1917, in Wallace, Idaho. On Feb. 15, 1939, in Eugene, she married William "Ben" Edmiston, who died in 1986. They lived in Seattle and New Orleans.

Mrs. Edmiston was a dedicated piano teacher, who enjoyed all her students. She moved to Grants Pass in 1988 from Rutland, Vt.

She enjoyed crafts and sewing.

Survivors include three daughters, Joan E. Davis, Grants Pass, Nancy E. Suit, Virginia Beach, Va., and Carolyn Raiford, Rutland, Vt.; a brother, Robert E. Tower, Roseburg; a sister, Namoi Ruth Edmiston, Grants Pass; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary June.

Arrangements: Grants Pass Funeral Alternatives.

Sherri Rose Silva
The memorial for Sherri Rose Silva will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Table Rock Fellowship, 3610 N. Pacific Highway, Medford. Pastor Tom Sabens will officiate.

Scenic Middle School students are welcome to attend.

Miss Silva, 12, of Central Point, died Friday (Sept. 20, 2002) at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford.

She was born on July 6, 1990, in Medford, a daughter of Frank and Teresa Silva.

A Scenic Middle School sixth-grader, Miss Silva enjoyed animals — especially horses — computers, movies and swimming.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include a sister, Lisa; a brother, Chris, both Central Point; and grandparents Frank and Pat Cavin, Medford; Jim and Shirley Silva, Yreka, Calif.; and Nonnah Kennedy, Crescent City, Calif.
