Raymond F. Fish
The funeral for Raymond F. Fish will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Perl Funeral Home, Medford.
Mr. Fish, 96, of Ashland, died Sunday (Oct. 6, 2002) at his home.

He was born Aug. 21, 1906, in Oakland, Calif., a son of Franklin and Bessie Fish. On June 10, 1945, in Campbell, Calif., he married
Martha Parr, who preceded him in death. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1970 from Livermore, Calif.
Mr. Fish was a member of Masons, Fruitvale Lodge in Oakland, the Rogue Valley Country Club, and he was a volunteer for Providence Medford Medical Center for 21 years.
He worked as a construction inspector for the school district.
Mr. Fish enjoyed playing golf and repairing golf clubs.
Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Gettling, Ashland, two sons, Raymond F. Jr., Rocklin, Calif., and Harry E., Hollister, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Mabel J. Messersmith
A private memorial service for Mabel Josephine Messersmith and her husband, Roy Alexander Messersmith, will be held Thursday in Medford. Dr. James Larsen of the Church of God in Ashland will officiate.
Mrs. Messersmith, 94, of Ashland, died Monday (Oct. 7, 2002) at Three Fountains Nursing Center. Mr. Messersmith died Dec. 24, 1992, in Coos Bay, he was born May 30, 1906, in Spalding, Neb.

Mrs. Messersmith was born on Feb. 27, 1908, in Plattsmouth, Neb., a daughter of Raymond and Lena Toogood. On March 10, 1930, in North Platte, Neb., she married
Roy Alexander Messersmith, who preceded her in death. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1995 from Reedsport.
She was an elementary school teacher in the 1930s and a homemaker. She attended the Rogue Valley Christian Church.
Mrs. Messersmith enjoyed fishing, arts and crafts.
Survivors include a daughter, Lucille Siemens, Gold Hill; a son, Louis E. Homan, Medford; a brother, Raymond William Toogood, Scotia, Neb.; a sister, Carolyn Ann Cross, Anacortes, Wash.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Leona Mae Kregdorn and Betty Ellen Dawkins; and two brothers, Ronald Dean Toogood and Donald Howard Toogood.

Monica Hawley-Jai Martell
The graveside service for Monica Hawley-Jai Martell, infant daughter of Alfredo Martell and Brandi-Jai Loyd of Medford, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Garden of Angels at Hillcrest Memorial Park
Monica died Saturday (Oct. 5, 2002) at her home.
She was born Sept.11, 2002, in Ashland.
In addition to her parents, survivors include a brother, Leobardo Joseph Martell, Medford; maternal grandparents, Toni Lee and Rick Wilson, Medford; paternal grandparents, Cayetano and Ana Maria Martell, Valles, S.L.P., Mexico.

Marion Harvey Fry
The celebration of the life of Marion Harvey Fry will be from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, at the Rex Club in Yreka, Calif. A private inurnment will take place.
Mr. Fry, 83, of Hilt, Calif., died Wednesday (Oct. 2, 2002) at English Oaks Convalescent Hospital, Modesto, Calif.

He was born March 8, 1919, in Cedarville, Ark.
Mr. Fry was a member of the Masons in Fort Smith Ark., and the S.I.R.S. society.
He worked for 35 years as a lumberman at the Fruit Growers Supply Co., in Hilt. He moved to Modesto, Calif. after his retirement 22 years ago to be near his family.
Mr. Fry enjoyed bowling and baseball.
Survivors include a son Dave, of Escalon, Calif.; a daughter, Susan Lynch, Ranger, Ga., a brother, Leroy, Fort Smith, Ark.; and three grandchildren.

Woneda Laughing Cloud Gill (Juanita Gill Scott)
Woneda Laughing Cloud Gill, also known as Juanita Gill Scott, 84, of Medford, died Saturday, (Oct. 5, 2002) in Medford. A private family service will be held.

Mrs. Gill was born Dec. 20, 1917, in Rymer, W.Va., a daughter of Ezra and Anna Gill. On June 4, 1935, in Pikeville, Ky., she married
Leon Bernard Scott, who preceded her in death. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1986 from Reno Nev.
She enjoyed babies, reading, painting and bluegrass music.
Survivors include three sons, Charles Fredrick and Roy Randolph, both Sacramento, Calif., and Richard Neal, Reno; a daughter, Jan Jacquelyn Scott Garlock, Medford; three sisters, Helen Joyce Beirne and Madlyn June Knopp, both Clendenin, W.Va., and Frankie Josephine Reynolds, Elryia, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Verna Naomi Frye.

Alice Bernardes
The memorial service for Alice Bernardes will be at 11 a.m. today at Hope Presbyterian Church in Rogue River, with a buffet lunch following the service.
Mrs. Bernades, 92, of Rogue River, died Sept. 1, 2002, at her home.
She was born Oc.t 28, 1909, in Lisbon, Portugal, a daughter of Jose and Joaquina Rosa Cunha Ernesto. Mrs Bernardes emigrated to the U.S. with her family in 1912. She married
Antonio M. Bernardes, also from Portugal, 60 years ago. They moved to Rogue River from New Haven, Conn.
Survivors include a daughter, Diolenda B. Sellers, Rogue River; a sister, Irene Laurie; a brother, Frank Juliano of Connecticut; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Alverta Pauline Zinskey
The memorial service for Alverta Pauline Zinskey will be at 1 p.m. today at the Central Valley Chapel. The Rev. Paul Hagedorn of Providence Hospice will officiate.
Mrs. Zinskey, 87, of Central Point, died Saturday, (Oct. 5, 2002) at her home.

She was born July 18, 1915, in Acme, Pa., a daughter of Albert and Isabelle Keslar Coffman. On Feb. 7, 1938, in Cumberland, Md., she married
William E. Zinskey, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1978 from Ventura, Calif.
Mrs. Zinskey was a homemaker.
She enjoyed playing cards, quilting, gardening and baking for her family.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, Robert, of Las Vegas; four daughters, Shirley Garrett, Medford, Judy Bruene, West Bend, Wis., Linda Van Brunt and Debra Zinskey, both Ventura, Calif.; 13 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Martin E. Burger
The funeral service for Martin Edward Burger will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the Brookhurst Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Medford. A graveside service will follow at Memory Gardens.
Bishop Frank Sybrant of the Third Ward will officiate.
Mr. Burger, 89, of Medford, died Friday (Oct. 4, 2002) at his home.
He was born on Aug. 1, 1913, in Pukwana, S.D. On Oct. 5, 1934, in Rapid City, S.D., he married
Pauline V. VanHise, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1977 from Auburn, Calif.
Mr. Burger was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in callings including the bishopric.
He worked as a planerman in the lumber industry for more than 40 years. He was an iron worker, welder and handyman. He maintained machinery at the church orchards for 15 years.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, Bill, Roseville, Calif., Roland, Loveland, Colo., and Richard, Idaho Falls, Idaho; two daughters, Beverly Brockbank, Lincoln, Calif., and Judy Brown, Rocklin, Calif.; a brother, George, Yelm, Wash.; and a sister, Marjorie Laws, in Colorado; 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son, LeRoy.
Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.
Robert Dale Scobie
The graveside service for Robert Dale Scobie will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford.
Mr. Scobie, 68, of Central Point, died Tuesday (Oct. 8, 2002) at Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass.

On July 31, 1934, Mr. Scobie was born to Percy and Mary Ellen Scobie in Monterey Park, Calif. On Jan. 12, 1982, in Las Vegas, he married
Cecile DeJanvier Scobie, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1958 from Monterey Park, Calif.
He was a member of the Eagle Point Grange for 42 years.
Mr. Scobie owned a ranch in Bonanza and raised pigs. He worked on several ranches in the Rogue Valley and owned a dairy in Eagle Point.
He enjoyed gardening.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, Steven, Myreon and Earl, all of Central Point; and a sister, Mary Smith, Portland. He was preceded in death by a brother, Trenton; and a sister, Dorothy Thompson.

Virginia Lois Pullman
Virginia "Jinny" Lois Pullman, 90, of Grants Pass, died Sept. 27, 2002, at Sandy Flaherty’s Foster Care Home.
She was born on May 14, 1912, in Huntington, N.Y., the daughter of Kathryn McAdoo Corcoran and Lorenzo Gilbert Eddy. She married
Chester "Chet" Pullman on Jan. 20, 1950, in Sacramento, Calif. They enjoyed camping, fishing and photography in the High Sierras. They moved to Grants Pass from Grass Valley, Calif., in 1970.
She was a member of Grace Bible Church.
Survivors include several nieces, Sandra Eddy Schnyder, Deborah Eddy, Margaret Eddy Cusick, Christine Eddy Brennan, and Kathryn Eddy; and a nephew, Andrew Eddy.
She was preceded in death by her husband and by her brother, Edwyn Alen Eddy.
Valarie Dee Schindler
Valarie Dee Schindler, 64, of Medford, died Tuesday (Oct. 8, 2002) in Medford. Private services will be held.
She was born April 8, 1938, in Bell, Calif., the daughter of Arthur and Virginia Schindler.
While living in California, she worked in the high-tech industry. Later she worked as a long-haul truck driver, hauling class "A" explosives for the U.S. military.
She went on to work for General Electric’s nuclear division. After moving to Tacoma, Wash., she worked for Georgia-Pacific. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1996.
She was president of the Rogue Valley Chapter of the National Association of Miniature Enthusiasts and was a member of the Native American Indian Council in California.
Survivors include two sons, John Knowles, San Jose, Calif., and Troy Knowles, Sacramento, Calif.; a daughter, Kristi Millsap, Medford; her mother, Virginia Schindler, Sunnyvale, Calif.; her brother, Bill Schindler, Inverness, Fla.; her sister, Victoria Sanders, Sunnyvale; and one grandson.

Mary ‘Charlotte’ Scarlett
The memorial service for Mary "Charlotte" Ralph Scarlett will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church in Central Point. The Rev. Jim Clifford will officiate. There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hermiston cemetery in Hermiston.

Mrs. Scarlett was born May 23, 1918, in Pendleton to Joseph and Mabel Ralph. On June 21, 1941, in Weiser, Idaho she married
William Lester Scarlett, who survives. They moved to Medford 50 years ago.
She worked for Trowbridge & Flynn Electric Co., and then for Bear Creek Corp. She also worked for Kaiser Shipping in Vancouver, Wash., during World War II.
She liked knitting hats for St. Vincent de Paul’s, reading and doing crossword puzzles. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Medford.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, William L. Scarlett Jr., Soldotna, Alaska; four daughters, Pamela Twitchell, Fairbanks, Alaska, Patricia Phillips, Puyallup, Wash., Teresa Scarlett-Wells, Hobbs, N.M., and Laurie Kime, Medford; a sister, Helen Atwood, Medford; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Hensel.
