Ula Mae Rounds
The memorial service and luncheon reception for Ula Mae Rounds will be at 11 a.m. Oct. 6, at the Ashland Springs Hotel. Mike Dyer will officiate.
Mrs. Rounds, 68, of Talent, died Sept. 20, 2002.

She was born Feb. 21, 1934, in Crescent City, Calif., to John and Henrietta Hostetler. She graduated from high school in Forest Grove, and attended the University of Oregon in Eugene and Pacific University in Forest Grove.
On Feb. 1, 1959, at Rockaway Beach at Twin Rocks, she married
Donal Rounds, who survives.
Mrs. Rounds was an Eckankar spiritual aid and homemaker.
She was a member of the Eckankar Clergy and the League of Women Voters.
Mrs. Rounds enjoyed healing, nutrition, caring for humanity and gardening.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Moira Rounds, Bend; two sons, Dylan and Rhys, both Ashland; a sister, ZoeAnn Irvin, Eagle Creek; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Ruth C. Ward
Ruth C. Ward, 82, of Ashland, died Wednesday (Sept. 25, 2002) at Linda Vista Care Center, Ashland. A private gathering of family and friends was held.

She was born Feb. 2, 1920, in Philadelphia. She moved to Ashland in 1997.
She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Thompson, Ashland.

Manuel R. Monton
Manuel R. Monton, 78, of Medford, died Sunday (Oct. 6, 2002) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. A service will be held at a later date.

He was born Jan. 4, 1924, in Navarrete, Dominican Republic, a son of Epifanio and Gracicla Monton. On Oct. 12, 1947, in New York City he married
Rita Gomez, who preceded him in death. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1989.
Mr. Monton worked as a metal polisher.
He enjoyed travel and youth sports.
Survivors include two sons, David of Medford, and Edward of Santa Clarita, Calif.; a sister, Elena Dominguez, Haverstraw, N.Y.; a brother, Luis, Miami; and five grandchildren.

Henry ‘Butch’ LaRance, Jr.
The funeral for Henry ("Butch, " "Chief") LaRanche, Jr., will be at 11 a.m., Friday, at the Lighthouse Pentecostal Church of God.
Mr. LaRance, 47, of Medford died Monday (Oct. 7, 2002) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
The date of the funeral was incorrect in Wednesday’s paper.
Mr. LaRance was born March 7, 1955, in Columbus, Ohio, a son of Henry and Elizabeth LaRance. On Aug. 1, 1987, in Medford, he married
Nadine Rae Mitchell, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1972 from Calif.
Mr. LaRance served in Viet Nam in the U.S. Army.
He worked as a automobile detailer and insulation installer.
Mr. LaRance was a member of the Lighthouse Pentecostal Church of God.
He enjoyed fishing, computers, hunting and watching TV.
In addition to his wife, survivors include four sons, Shane and Keith, both of Florida, Andrew and Henry, both of Medford; three daughters, Amy, Ashley, and Victoria LaRanche, all of Medford; his mother, Betty, of Minnesota; two sisters, Karen Holtz, of Washington, and Penny Roehler of Iowa; six brothers, Richard of Medford, Jim of Eagle Point, John of Missouri, Henry Vader of Washington D.C., Eddy Holtz of New York, and Wayne Holtz of Calif.; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, and two brothers, Swede Vader and Bobbie Holtz.

Harold Victor Ginter
Harold Victor Ginter, 77, of Medford, died Thursday (Oct. 3, 2002) at a Medford foster home. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Billings, Mont. Inurnment will be at Eagle Point National cemetery, Eagle Point.
He was born July 18, 1925, in Billings, a son of Harry and Emma (Lesser) Ginter. He moved to the Rogue Valley 30 years ago from Washington state.
Mr. Ginter attended college in Washington. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Ginter worked in construction for Boeing Co., in Washington, and for the U.S. Postal Service in Medford for 20 years until his retirement.
Mr. Ginter was a regular participant in the Medford Jazz Jubilee and a member of the Medford Moose Lodge and Medford B.P.O.E. No. 1168.
He enjoyed fishing, golf, all sports, and dancing to the "Big Band" sounds of the 1940s and 1950s.
Survivors include a brother, Henry, Washington; and a sister, Marion Rob, Billings, Mont. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Mildred, and a brother, Clarence.

Signa Eileen Mitchell
Signa Eileen Mitchell, 79, of Central Point died Saturday (Oct. 5, 2002) at her home. No service is planned.
She was born on July 21, 1923, in Garden City, Kan., a daughter of Joseph and Ada Holmes. On Sept. 29, 1942, in Lewiston, Idaho, she married
Ralph "Mitch" Mitchell, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1940 from White Salmon, Wash.
Mrs. Mitchell was the state spelling champion during the 1930s in Kansas.
She worked in the logging industry for 25 years along with her husband, and worked in property investments.
Mrs. Mitchell enjoyed gardening, antiques, western memorabilia and Indian art.
In addition to her husband survivors include a daughter, Darlene "Kay" Richey, McArthur, Calif.; a son Richard Lee Gilman, Mountain Grove, Mo.; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Eldon, Kenneth, Joseph, and William Holmes.

Linda Ann Mihayl
The memorial service for Linda Ann Mihayl will be from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Mama Stortinis Restorante, 3715 Bridgeport Way, University Place, Wash.
Mrs. Mihayl, 61, of University Place, died Saturday (Oct. 5, 2002) in Tacoma, Wash.

She was born May 4, 1941, in Los Angeles, a daughter of Leon Freeman and Lois Robbins. On June 22, 1973, in Las Vegas, she married
Victor P. "Pete" Mihayl, who survives. They lived in the Rogue Valley for 30 years. In 1990 they moved to Washington.
Mrs. Mihayl worked as a business office manager for a construction company.
She enjoyed shopping, scrapbooking, golf and riding horses.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two sons, Robert Rosas, Sr., and Daniel Rosas, both of Medford; two daughters, Teri Conley, of Medford, and Robyn Rosas-Renner, of University Place, Wash.; her mother, Lois Mead of San Diego; a brother, Larry Freeman, of Portello Valley, Calif.; two sisters, Leslee Freeman of Ashland and Laurel Ehrlich of West Lake Village, Calif.; and 12 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Leon Freeman.

Warren H. Young
The memorial service for Warren H. Young will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, at the Friendly Street Church of God, in Eugene.
Mr. Young, 81, of Eugene, died Saturday (Oct. 5, 2002) in Eugene.

He was born April 4, 1921, in Vale, Ore., a son of Harry and Lois (Cook) Young. On June 30, 1946, in Reno, he married
Dorothy E. Jenkins, who preceded him in death. They lived in Tulsa, Okla., Seattle, Medford, and Swiss Home before moving to Eugene.
Mr. Young graduated from Spartan Aeronautical College in Tulsa. He served in the Army-Air Corps in the South Pacific during WWII.
Mr. Young was a member of the Elks Lodge, Oregon Club, and the Friendly Street Church of God.
He worked as a salesman for Armour & Co., and was a co-owner of the Shoppers Market in Eugene, and Big Reds Market, in Swiss Home.
Mr. Young enjoyed traveling, sports reading, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Wade and Linda Witt, both of Eugene; a son Ron, of Salem; two brothers, Harry of Johnson City, Tenn., and Homer of Loveland, Colo.; a sister, Hellen Wright, of Olympia, Wash.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Ellis.

Robert C. MacDowell
Robert Coleman MacDowell, 78, of Ashland, died Sunday (Oct. 6, 2002) at Three Fountains Nursing Home. No service is planned.

He was born June 9, 1924, in Los Angeles, a son of Edith and William MacDowell. On Dec. 3, 1948, at Balboa Island, Calif. he married
Molly Long, who preceded him in death. They moved to Ashland in 1965.
Mr. MacDowell was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Los Angeles. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942.
Mr. MacDowell was a member of the Teamsters Local No. 962.
He worked for Pacific Motor Trucking for 29½ years and was transferred to the Medford unit in 1965, where he worked before retiring in 1982. He was a volunteer woodcutter for the Department of Human Resources.
Mr. MacDowell enjoyed hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation.
Survivors include two daughters, Lynn Wray of Eagle Point, and Patricia Kemp, of Salinas, Calif.; a son Michael MacDowell, of Huntington Beach, Calif.; a brother, William B., of Talent, ; a sister, Patricia MacDowell, of Ashland; and a grandson. He was preceded in death by a sister.

Clinton Harding Fowler
The memorial service for Clinton Harding Fowler will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Fowler, 81, of Medford died Wednesday (October 9, 2002) at Three Fountains Nursing Center.

He was born Jan. 27, 1921, in Sheldon, Mo., a son of Edward and Jane Fowler, the youngest of 13 children. He and his wife, Kathyrn, moved to Medford in 1992.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II as a flight instructor.
Mr. Fowler was with the John Brown Schools organization for 40 years. He was primarily associated with Christian broadcasting as the manager of radio station KGER in Southern California. He retired in 1985.
In addition to his wife, survivors include four daughters, Debbie Hess, Andrea Halberg, Jonnye Guerrero and Carolyn Ernst; three sons, Clint Jr., Bill McFarland and Charles McFarland; three brothers, Floyd, Willis and Beverly; and one sister, Althea, all of Missouri; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean Anne.

William ‘Bill’ J. Walker Sr.
A gathering of family and friends for William "Bill" J. Walker Sr. will be from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Central Valley Chapel.
Mr. Walker, 74, of Central Point, died Thursday (Oct. 10, 2002) at his home.

Valarie Dee Schindler
Valarie Dee Schindler, 64, of Medford, died Tuesday (Oct. 8, 2002) in Medford. Private services will be held.
Mrs. Schindler was born on April 8, 1938, in Bell, Calif, a daughter of Arthur and Virginia Schindler. She moved to the Rogue Valley 6½ years ago from Tacoma, Wash.
She was a member of the National Association of Miniature Enthusiasts and president of the Rogue Valley Chapter. She was a council member of Native American Indian Council in California.
Mrs. Schindler worked in the high-tech industry in California and as a long-haul truck driver hauling class A explosives for the U.S. military. She worked for General Electric’s nuclear division. After moving to Tacoma, she worked for Georgia Pacific.
Survivors include two sons, John Knowles of San Jose, Calif., and Troy Knowles of Sacramento; a daughter, Kristi Millsap of Medford; her mother, Virginia Schindler of Sunnyvale, Calif.; a brother, Bill Schindler of Inverness, Fla.; a sister, Victoria Sanders of Sunnyvale, Calif.; and one grandson, Daniel Knowles of Sacramento. She was preceded in death by her father.
