Lois Alleene King
The cryptside service for Lois Alleene King will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Bellview Memorial Park in Ontario, Calif.
Mrs. King, 82, of Medford, died Sunday (May 26, 2002) in Medford.

She was born Lois Alleene Mankin on Dec. 24, 1919, in Mullin, Texas, to John D. and Edna (Ethridge) Mankin. On Nov. 28, 1940, in Ontario, Calif., she married
Hozie B. King, who died in 2000. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1990 from Ontario, Calif.
Mrs. King worked for General Electric Co. for 25 years.
She enjoyed cooking and homemaking.
Survivors include a son, Earl, Phoenix; a daughter, Linda Outfleet, Jacksonville; a sister, Jonnie Deweese, Upland, Calif.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

H. Russel Hulett
H. Russel Hulett, 82, of Grass Valley, Calif., formerly of Talent, died March 9, 2002, in Grass Valley. No local service is planned.
He received his master’s degree in biochemistry in 1942 from Oregon State University. He then went into the military, where his training included meteorology and radar technology in the graduate schools at the University of Chicago, Harvard and MIT.
After the war, Mr. Hulett spent time in the aerospace industry, where he was responsible for the development of instrumentation for space vehicles including the first Daylight Star Tracker. He received a Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1965.
He subsequently received a grant from NASA to study the possibility of life on Mars, and in 1971, he was invited to the NASA World Conference in New York, to present his conclusions on the origin of life. He continued his research work in the genetics department where he played a role in the development of medical instrumentation.
Mr. Hulett published papers in various scientific journals including "Journal of Theoretical Biology" and "Nature."
After his retirement, he moved to Talent, where he continued his studies and in 1990 published a book on his views of the origin of life, "Life in the Beginning."
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Iva Lee Hulett, Grass Valley, Calif.; and two daughters, Celia Hulett and Karen Brown of Grass Valley, Calif.

Robert ‘Bobby’ William Short
Robert "Bobby" William Short, 47, of Central Point, died Friday (May 24, 2002) at Medford Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. The memorial service will be held at a later date.

He was born March 3, 1955, in Santa Ana, Calif., to Dean and Marion Short. He moved from California to Illinois to live with his father, and moved to the Rogue Valley as a teenager.
Mr. Short was a farm laborer.
He enjoyed people, rock collecting and studying American Indian culture.
Survivors include a brother, Lonnie Croghan, Medford; two sisters, Linda Maier, White City, and K. Darlene Johnson, Oroville, Calif.

Bruce K. McKinnon
Bruce K. McKinnon, 52, of Medford, died Friday (May 24, 2002) at Providence Medford Medical Center. No service is planned.
He was born Feb. 20, 1950, in Cincinnati.
Mr. McKinnon served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.
Survivors include a son, Quinne, Pleasant Hill, Calif.; and one grandson.

Sybyl V. Squire
The cryptside service for Sybyl Verna Squire will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford.
Mrs. Squire, 90, of Ashland, died Tuesday (May 28, 2002) at Linda Vista Care Center in Ashland.
Arrangements will be announced by Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.
Madison Elaine Poe
The graveside service for Madison Elaine "Boo" Poe will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Siskiyou Memorial Park, Medford.
Madison, two-month-old daughter of Jeremy Poe and Jennifer Spielbusch of Eagle Point, died Sunday (May 26, 2002).

Jackie Lynn Albert
Jackie Lynn Albert, 48, of Gold Hill, died Friday (Oct. 25, 2002) at Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford. No service will be held.
She was born Jackie Dobbs on Jan. 2, 1954, in Gridley, Calif. She lived in the Rogue Valley from 1980 to 1989, when she moved to California. She returned to the Rogue Valley last February.
Ms. Albert was a silversmith and enjoyed making silver jewelry.
She also enjoyed the outdoors and playing pool.
Survivors include her companion, Jack Sommers, Gold Hill; a daughter, Tonie Valdez, Gold Hill; two sons, Jeremy LaBerge, Eugene, and Christopher Albert, Berry Creek, Calif.; her former husband, Albert L. Albert, Berry Creek, Calif.; her mother, Katherine Dobbs, Apache Junction, Ariz.; two sisters, Pattie and Linda, both Roseburg; and 11 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Morris Dobbs; and a brother, Jerry Dobbs.

Leota Bernice Dufur
Leota Bernice Dufur, 87, of Medford, died Thursday (Nov. 21, 2002) at Providence Medford Medical Center. No service is planned.

She was born Leota Houser on Oct. 6, 1915, in Hurley, Mo.
Ms. Dufur was an elementary school teacher in Missouri and Ohio during the 1930s and ’40s. During World War II, she worked for Boeing on B-17s and B-29s. She moved to the Rogue Valley from Los Angeles in 1950. She was a caseworker for the Oregon Department of Human Resources and retired as a social worker in 1980.
Survivors include a son, John Willis, Central Point; a daughter, Candace Lee Dufur, Anacortes, Wash.; two sisters, Amy Motes, Medford, and Frankie Wistl, in California; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Norman Adkins; one brother and one sister.

Hilda Marcia Wakeman
The memorial service for Hilda Marcia Wakeman will be at 3:30 p.m. today at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at Redwood Avenue and Willow Lane in Grants Pass. Private interment will be in Eagle Point National cemetery.
Ms. Wakeman, 61, of Grants Pass, died Tuesday (Nov. 19, 2002) at Roseburg Veterans Medical Center.
She was born May 10, 1941, in Syracuse, N.Y.
Ms. Wakeman served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1965.
She moved to Boulder Creek, Calif., from Syracuse, N.Y., in 1972, and to Grants Pass in 1981.
Ms. Wakeman was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
She enjoyed crocheting, hummingbirds, her swimming class at the YMCA and her association with the brothers and sisters at the Kingdom Hall.
Survivors include a daughter, Helen Wakeman, Grants Pass; her mother, Harriet Wakeman, Syracuse, N.Y.; and a sister, Hannah May Wood, Redding, Calif.

Dianne Lynne Parker
Dianne Lynne Parker, 48, of Medford, died Nov. 16, 2002, in Medford, of natural causes. A private service will be held.
She was born March 18, 1954, in San Luis Obispo, Calif., to Dale and Barbara Parker. She moved to Oregon in her early teens and considered it her home. She attended Medford High School.
Ms. Parker enjoyed music.
Survivors include her 11-year-old twin sons, in Oregon; her mother, Spring Valley, Calif.; a sister, Dayle Tedrow, Spring Valley, Calif.; and a brother, Steven Parker, San Francisco. She was preceded in death by her father; and an infant son, Alan Dale.

Eric Smith
The funeral Mass for Eric Smith will be at noon Thursday at Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church in Central Point. The graveside service will follow at Jacksonville cemetery. There will be a wake from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Applegate River Ranch House, 15100 Highway 238.
Mr. Smith, 79, of Humbug Creek Road, Jacksonville, died Saturday (Oct. 26, 2002) in Jacksonville.
He was born Dec. 13, 1922, in Southport, Lancashire, England, to George and Mary (Prescott) Smith. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of London. On April 23, 1962, in Bristol, England, he married
Margaret Peirson, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Smith was an aerospace director of marketing in Los Angeles. He served in the Royal Air Force during World War II.
Mr. Smith was a member of the Rogue River Flyfishers and the Audubon Society. He enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include four sons, Christopher, Applegate, and Peter, John and Andrew, all Los Angeles; and a sister, June Carney, Southport, England.

Lucy Marie Snyder
A Mass of Christian Burial for Lucy Marie Snyder will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Anne Catholic Church in Grants Pass. The Rev. Gregory Moys will officiate.
Mrs. Snyder, 93, of Grants Pass, died Sunday (Oct. 27, 2002) at an adult foster-care home.
She was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church, St. Anne Altar Society and the Oregon Council of the Blind.

Robert 'Dusty' R. Rhoades
The memorial service for Robert "Dusty" Raymond Rhoades will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Eastwood Baptist Church in Medford. The Rev. George A. Nye will officiate.
Mr. Rhoades, 91, of Medford, died Sunday (Oct. 27, 2002) at Providence Medford Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 14, 1910, in Prairie Creek, Texas, to Harry and Elizabeth Rhoades. He married
Georgia Juree, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1955 from Washington.
Mr. Rhoades was a master mechanic for 45 years, working in Raymond and Port Angeles, Wash. He also worked as a commercial fisherman in Alaska for seven years. Locally, he worked for Medford & Veneer Plywood Mill as a shop foreman retiring at the age of 63. After his retirement, he did some contract work in the valley.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of 71 years, include a daughter, Georgia Rae Kent, Sequim, Wash.; two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.

Treva Rose Tumbleson
The memorial service for Treva Rose Tumbleson will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Ashland. The Rev. Scott Dalgarno will officiate.
Mrs. Tumbleson, 75, of Ashland, died Friday (Oct. 25, 2002) in Ashland.

She was born June 23, 1927, in Willits, Calif., to Lloyd and Ruth (Selvedge) Launer. On Sept. 30, 1949, in New York, she married
John Raymond Tumbleson Jr., who survives. They moved to Ashland in 1963.
She received a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from Southern Oregon University in Ashland and a Ph.D. from the University of Oregon in Eugene.
Mrs. Tumbleson was a teacher in Medford, at Southern Oregon University in Ashland and at the University of Oregon in Eugene.
She was a member of the Eleanor Roosevelt League, Beta Sigma Phi, the American Association of University Women, and the Democratic Party: Oregon State Caucus, delegate National Convention 1996, 2000.
Mrs. Tumbleson enjoyed writing and social activism.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Lisa Ruth Tumbleson, New York; two sons, Paul A., Glen Ridge, N.J., and Raymond D. Kutztown, Pa.; two sisters, Elsie Meehan, Redding, Calif., and Gypsie Lamberger, Eureka, Calif.; a brother, Lloyd Launer, Fortuna, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
