Brian Doler

He was born in Alamosa, Colo. on July 3, 1963 to Earl and Ardith Doler. He graduated from Waldport High School in 1981.
He was a professional house painter for many years in Lincoln County. He enjoyed fishing, camping, bike riding and snow skiing. He was attending classes at Oregon Coast Community College.
Survivors include his son, Jason Feller of Springfield; his mother, Ardith Doler of Seal Rock; brothers Bob Doler of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and Bill Doler of Homer, Alaska; sisters Bonnie Sitz of Bay City, and Becky Doler and Belinda Doler of Seal Rock; and his aunt, Iris Young of Siletz. He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Doler, on July 25, 1998.
Visitation is at Bateman Funeral Home from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today (Friday). A memorial service will take place Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 162 NE 10th St., Newport.

Janet “Miss Janet” Arnold

She was born in Hollywood, Calif. on Nov. 4, 1925 to Rupert and Willie (Nixon) Arnold. She graduated from Whittier High School in California.
She married Clyde Bates Gleason in 1944; he preceded her in death in 1986.
In 1985, she earned her bachelor of arts degree from Chaminade University of Honolulu, where she majored in Montessori education and graduated with distinction.
She worked as head teacher for several Montessori schools in Hawaii and Florida. She moved to Lincoln City in 1989, where she owned and operated the Lincoln City Montessori School until retiring in 1998. She was an artist and was proficient at the art of scrimshaw.
She enjoyed the outdoors and the ocean. She volunteered at the Connie Hansen Garden in Lincoln City and was a past member of Beta Sigma Phi.
Survivors include her companion, Arthur Edelson of Lincoln City; sons Michael Gleason of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Thomas Gleason of Santa Rosa, Calif., Clifford Gleason of Diamond Bar, Calif. and Lance Gleason of Poulsbo, Wash.; daughters Diana Gleason of Portland and Jill Baguley of Morino Valley, Calif.; sisters Jeanne McKinley of El Cajon, Calif. and Sally Jordan of Seal Beach, Calif.; and grandchildren Questa Gleason, Liza Gleason, Jeff Gleason, Rowdy Gleason, Cody Gleason, Renee Baguley and Tara Baguley.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Taft Pioneer Cemetery. A potluck gathering will follow at 3 p.m. at the Lincoln City Montessori School. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions have been suggested to the Janet Arnold Montessori Scholarship Fund, c/o West Coast Bank, Lincoln City Branch, 4157 North Highway 101, Lincoln City 97367. Pacific View Memorial Chapel is serving the family.

Veranda Sprinkles

She was born in Garfield, Ark. on Oct. 10, 1916 to George and Edna Phillips Hyden. She married Clifton Sprinkles in Bentonville, Ark. on March 31, 1942. They moved to Toledo in 1951. For most of her life, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Clifton, of Toledo; a son, Lonnie Sprinkles of Toledo; daughters Shirley Paul of Siletz, Debbie Young of Salem and Cathy Lynch of Toledo; brothers Hermit Hyden of Salem, and Lemmie Hyden and Davie Hyden, both of Garfield, Ark.; sisters Velma White of Springdale, Ark. and Beatrice Tacker of Garfield, Ark.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
At the decedent’s request, no services are planned. Disposition is by cremation, with Bateman Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Katye Sullivan

She was born in Bandon on June 26, 1962 to Carroll L. Peterson and Delores Wescott. She attended schools in Bandon and Lebanon. She married Michael Sullivan on May 5, 1999.
She previously attended the Free Methodist Church in Lebanon and was currently attending Plainview Mennonite Church. She was a foster parent and enjoyed animals, flowers, travel, reading, and piano. She was an artist and poet.
Survivors include her parents, Carroll “Pete” and Delores Peterson of Toledo; her husband, Michael Sullivan; sons Nathaniel Attebery of Lebanon and Andrew Attebery of Albany; a step-son, David Sullivan of Lebanon; step-daughters Kristin Sullivan and Michelle Sullivan of Tempe, Ariz.; brothers Mitchell Peterson of Santa Clara, Calif. and Howard Peterson of Eugene; sisters Misty Thomas of Lebanon and Jeanine Wenning of Lebanon; her grandmother, Mary Sherod, of Bandon; her grandfather, Howard Wescott of Missouri; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Plainview Mennonite Church, 433 Fourth Ave., Albany. Memorial contributions are suggested to Benton Hospice Services, Inc, in care of DeMoss-Durdan Garden Chapel, 815 NW Buchanan, Corvallis 97330.

Phyllis Landis

She was born in Henderson, Texas on March 14, 1947 to James A. and Devern Pierce Maxwell. She married Ben Landis in Reno, Nev. on Sept. 14, 1965.
For 35 years, she had been employed as a secretary for TCI Cable. She was a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority.
Survivors include her husband, Ben, of Waldport; her mother and stepfather, Devern and V. “Barney” Allen of Waldport; a daughter, Kristen Landis of Portland; a son, Scott Landis of Waldport; stepsisters Pat Olson of Adelanto, Calif., Rita Prince of Long Beach, Calif., Diane Castiganita of Huntington Beach, Calif. and Nancy DeAtley of Branson, Mo.; and five grandchildren.
Disposition is by cremation, with Bateman Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family suggests donations to the Waldport Ambulance Fundy.

Jessie “Max” Smallman

She was born in Buffalo, Mo. on April 26, 1928 to James and Minnie (Morgan) Hill. She married William J. Smallman in Craig Head County, Ark. on Sept. 20, 1945; they moved to Toledo in 1956.
She retired after working for many years at the Windjammer Motel as a housekeeper. She enjoyed traveling, camping and tending her roses.
Survivors include her son, William James Smallman of Toledo; a daughter and son-in-law, Aletta and Curtis Meyers of Toledo; a brother, Doc Hill of Toledo; a sister, Jane Moore of Memphis, Tenn.; a former daughter-in-law, Linda Smallman of Siletz; grandchildren and their spouses Jesi and Mark McKinley of Toledo; Jason and Tamara Westbrook of Siletz; Erik Myers of Toledo; Rick, Darrell and Kenny Prowett; great-grandchildren Heather McKinley, Tabietha Ashley, Tyrie and Jaycob Westbrook, Barbara Jean and Taylor Jean Myers, and Rune, Rowen, Kyle and Tyler Prowett; and a former son-in-law, Wayne Westbrook. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Smallman in 1997; and her daughter, Athea M. Westbrook, in 1998.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Calvary Chapel, Toledo. Donations are suggested to a local hospice. Disposition is by cremation, with Bateman Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Barbara Pridgeon

She was born in St. Joseph, Mich. on March 2, 1928 to Elmer and Ruth Miner Cress. She had been a resident of Lincoln City since 1994 and was a previous resident of Albuquerque, N.M. from 1985 to 1994 and the Toledo and Sylvania, Ohio area until 1985.
She attended the Presbyterian church and had been a docent of the art museum in Toledo, Ohio for many years.
Survivors include her sons, Jeff Pridgeon of Newport, Matt Pridgeon of Federal Way, Wash., and Ben Pridgeon of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, LouJeanne Catlin of Phoenix, Ariz.; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Pridgeon, in 1992.
At the decedent’s request, no services are planned. Disposition is by cremation, with Bateman Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Lloyd Hollett

He was born in Winchester, Mass. on Dec. 27, 1924. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the New USS Yorktown and on the Merrianna Islands. He moved from Massachusetts to California later, and then settled in Oregon with his family. He retired from Oregon State University in 1984.
Mr. Hollett was active in the Elks, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and crabbing.
Survivors include his wife, Louise, of Toledo; a son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Claudia Hollett of Washington, D.C.; daughters and sons-in-law Nancy and Gary Gladstone of University Place, Wash., Sandy Moore of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Dayle and Terry Shumaker of Albany; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first grandson, Kevin Hollett of Hawaii.
Bateman Funeral Chapel will handle cremation, and following the wishes of the deceased, no memorial services are planned. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, donations to a cancer society and/or hospice.

Neil Richmond

He was born in Portland on Sept. 24, 1954 to Charles and Alice (Dudley) Richmond.
He studied at the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md., and the University of Wisconsin, and graduated from Oregon State University, Corvallis, with a degree in marine biology. He had worked as a biologist for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife for the last 20 years, managed Oregon’s sea urchin and crab fisheries, and conducted research on a variety of shellfish resources.
He married Bonnie Abraham in Plymouth, Wis. on May 22, 1976. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, camping, gardening and beekeeping.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Richmond of North Bend; daughters Erin Richmond and Leigh Richmond, both of North Bend; his parents, Charles and Alice Richmond of Gleneden Beach; brothers and sisters-in-law Scott and Gail Richmond of San Diego, Calif. and Paul and Barbara Richmond of Philomath, and Renae Richmond of Kansas City, Mo.i; six sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. His father and mother-in-law, Clarence and Frances Abraham, preceded him in death.
Memorial services were held in Charleston, with Pastor Charles Busch of the Lincoln City Congregational Church officiating. Cremation rites were held under the direction of Nelson’s Bay Area Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to “Friends of South Slough,” supporting the mission of the South Slough National Estuarian Research Reserve, PO Box 5417, Charleston 97420.
