Denise JoAnn Hendricks

Denise JoAnn Hendricks, 36, of Sharon Springs, Kan., died Oct. 28.
She was born in Stayton, and moved to Kansas in 1998. She worked at Perry Manor Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Sharon Springs.
Survivors include her husband, John Hutson; son, Aaron; daughter, Heather; mother and stepfather, Doris and Leonard Alumbaugh; and brother, David Hendricks, all of Sharon Springs; sisters, Donna Baker of McClarey, Wash., and Deana Chastain of Salem; stepbrothers, Cory and Chris Alumbaugh, both of Salem; and stepsister, Debby Dillard of Seattle, Wash.

Cyril R. Zuber
July 30, 1913 - February 11, 2003
Cyril R. Zuber, 89, of Stayton died Feb. 11.
He was born in Stayton, and was a refrigeration engineer for Stayton Canning Co. for 20 years. He was a member of St. Boniface and Immaculate Conception Catholic churches and the Knights of Columbus, and enjoyed animals, playing cards, tilling soil and dancing.
His wife, Marian Poindexter, whom he married
on July 24, 1939, survives.
Other survivors include his daughter, Shirlee Sanders of Stayton and three grandsons.
Private family services were held. Interment was at Wisner cemetery. Arrangements: Weddle Funeral Home, Stayton.
Ruth Etta Metheany
April 15, 1914 - February 9, 2003
Ruth Etta Metheany, 88, of Molalla died Feb. 9.
She was born in Carlton, Ore., and was raised in North Bend, Ore., where she graduated from high school. She attended Albany College in Albany, Ore., where she received her teaching certificate after two years. She began her teaching career in Nashville, Ore., working at Oakdale School. She also taught in the Scio School District for seven years and for 21 years in the Victor Point School District, retiring in 1976. She was a resident of the Stayton-Scio area from 1948 to 1978. She enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter, visiting Hawaii, decorating for Christmas and playing golf, which she learned at age 70.
Her husband, Milton, whom she married
on May 14, 1937, preceded her in death on Sept. 22, 1974.
Survivors include her son, Jon Metheany of Molalla; daughter, Maryl Gene Metheany of Bend; and one granddaughter.
Services were held at Weddle Funeral Home, Stayton.
Wanda Diller
March 7, 1922 - February 17, 2003
Wanda “DeDee” Diller, 80, of Silverton died Feb. 17.
She was born in Modesto, Calif., grew up in Southern California, and briefly attended Southern California Bible College. She moved to Silverton in 1962. She was a homemaker and active in her church. She was a self-taught pianist, artist and wood carver.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Milton, Dale, “Tet,” Vernon and Richard Foster.
Her husband, Art, whom she married
in June 1944, survives.
Other survivors include her daughters, Shirl Shetler of Aumsville and Jeanne Pugh of Silverton; sons, Lonnie of Salem, and Ron and Bob, both of Silverton; sister, Dessa Villa of Silverton; brothers, Don Foster of Redding, Calif., and Leonard Foster of Red Bluff, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be held Friday, 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. at Unger Funeral Chapel, Silverton. Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, Silverton. Interment will follow at Valley View cemetery. Remembrances: First Baptist Church, Silverton. Arrangements: Unger Funeral Chapel, Silverton.
Bernice N. Horrocks
August 23, 1930 - April 16, 2003
Bernice N. Horrocks, 72, of Stayton died April 16.
She was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa, moved to the Northwest and settled in Stayton in 1953. She worked for NORPAC for 32 years.
Survivors include her husband, Bob; five children; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Bobby Dockins
September 10, 1934 - April 15, 2003
Bobby Dockins, 68, of Stayton died April 15.
He was born in Morrilton, Ark., moved to Salem from Cupertino, Calif. in 1979 and to Stayton in 1980. He worked for 16 years as the superintendent of public works for the city of Stayton. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, building dune buggies and camping.
He was preceded in death by a son, Timothy in 1995 and brother, Richard.
His wife, Darleen Ausmus, whom he married
Oct. 22, 1954, survives.
Survivors include his mother, Reba Dockins of Modesto, Calif.; sons, Lowell and Kevin, both of Cupertino, Calif., Wesley of Stayton, and Edward of Hillsboro; daughter, Kelly Bender of Las Vegas, Nev. and Dani Thompson of Stayton; brothers, Ray of Coarsegold, Calif., and Larry of Ft. Bragg, Calif.; sisters, Reba Griswood of Morrilton, Ark., Helen Morris of Modesto, Calif., and Sara Burgin of Crescent City, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Graveside services were held at Lone Oak cemetery, Stayton. Remembrances: Arthritis Foundation. Arrangements: Weddle Funeral Home, Stayton.
William W. Olson
January 14, 1920 - April 16, 2003
William W. Olson, 83, of Sublimity died April 16.
He was born in Calumet, Mich., and graduated from Michigan Tech. He worked for Northrup as a design engineer for more than 20 years. He moved to Oregon in 1975, settling in Mill City. He was a Moose Lodge member in Las Vegas, and enjoyed fishing and crossword puzzles.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia in 1999; and sons, Leo, Tom and Richard.
Survivors include his sons, John of Gates, Harry of Turner, Ron of Bloomington, Calif., Gerald of Peoria, Ariz., and Charles of Salt Lake City, Utah; daughters, Karen Honor of Sacramento, Calif., and Rose Wolfe of Umpqua, Ore.; sister, May Broyles of Bellvue, Ill.; 25 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
At his request, no services were held. Arrangements: Weddle Funeral Home, Stayton.
Beverly Ann Goodrich
October 6, 1933 - April 15, 2003
Beverly Ann Goodrich, 69, of Aumsville died April 15.
She was born in Clay County, S.D. to Marvel and Tom Brown. She spent most of her youth in Hopewell, Ore., and later lived in the St. Helens, Marion and Springfield areas. She was a caregiver at the Marian Home for many years.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clyde Cave; second husband, Cal Goodrich; and son, Phillip Cave.
Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth Phillips of Aumsville; sons, Virgil Cave of Preston, Idaho, Dan Cave of Vader, Wash., Tom Cave of Odgen, Utah and Jarrald Cave of Turner; sister, Dorothy Bennett of Warren, Ore.; brother, Dean Brown of LaCenter, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held May 3, 1 p.m. at Hopewell Community Church. Arrangements: Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service, Salem.
Codey Russell Joe Davila
September 1, 1989 - April 14, 2003
Codey Russell Joe Davila, 13, of Detroit died April 14.
He was born in Salem and lived for a while in Toledo, Ore. with his aunt and uncle, Linda and Danny Loper. He then returned to Salem before moving to Detroit one year ago. He collected trinkets and lights, and enjoyed his paintball and pellet guns, skateboarding, making his skateboard into a snowboard, motorcycling, fishing, wood crafting, golfing and being outdoors.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Angela Davila and Dean McDonald; father, Jeffrey Christian of Everett, Wash.; brothers, Aaron Christian of Everett and Devin McDonald of Detroit; grandparents, Brinda and Joe Martin of Aumsville and Linda Mehl of Florence; and great-grandmothers, Lillian Bidwell of Toledo, Dorothy Martin of Salem and Maria Davila of San Diego, Calif.

Juanita L. Pauley
August 2, 1931 - June 13, 2003
Juanita L. Burris Pauley, 71, of Seminole, Okla., died June 13 while visiting Oregon.
She was born in Clovis, N.M., to Lester and Effie Morris Burris. She lived most of her life in the Willamette Valley, mainly in Linn County. She attended schools in Shedd, Ore. She drove truck across country with her husband and later worked as a waitress for over 25 years. She moved to Oklahoma in 2001. She enjoyed camping, fishing and crocheting.
She was preceded in death by five children; her parents; a step-mother; and brothers, Kenneth and Del Burris.
Her husband, Jimmie, whom she married
on June 4, 2000, survives.
Other survivors include her son, Arlen Robb of Oregon; daughters, Debbie, Marie Gomez and Sandy Pellet, all of Oregon; brother, Dale Burris of Albany; sisters, Rosa Lee Dunshee of Oregon and Ladell Bradley of California; 15 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held today, 2 p.m. at Livingwater Church of God, Gates. There was no interment. Her remains were donated to science. Arrangements: Weddle Funeral Home, Stayton.
Laverne K. Ribbers
December 7, 1919 - June 14, 2003
Laverne K. Ribbers, 83, of Salem died June 14.
She was born in Wheeler, Ore., and grew up in Timber, Ore. She then lived in Portland and moved to Stayton in 1961, where she raised her family. She enjoyed playing cards, sewing and taking care of her family.
Her husband, Earl, preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Anthony.
Survivors include her daughters, Debbie Layman of Mt. Angel and Darlene Ribbers of Stayton; and sister, Maxine Rhodes of Beaverton.
