MATTHEW E. "MATT" RICHARTZ, WILSONVILLE
A Celebration of Life for Wilsonville resident Matthew E. "Matt" Richartz was held Sunday, June 1, 2003 at his home.
Matt was born February 18, 1956, in Eureka, Calif., the son of Walter and Sandra (Moore) Richartz. He died May 29, 2003 in Tualatin at the age of 47.
He was raised and educated in Klamath Falls, where he attended Klamath Union High School and graduated in Carson City, Nev. Following high school he attended Central Oregon Community College in Bend, where he took general studies for two years. He then transferred to the Oregon College of Education in Monmouth, where he received his Bachelors of Science in Humanities, graduation with honors and receiving the Presidents Award.
In 1990 Matt moved to Sherwood and went to work for Allied Systems as a Contract Administrator and also worked in Marketing. He left the company in 2002 and went to work for Oregon Iron Works as a contract administrator for steel fabrication. In 1999 he moved to Wilsonville and has remained there since.
On March 29, 2002, Matt married
Lisa Edgington in Sonoma, Calif. He enjoyed many interests that include music, playing the guitar, bass fishing, deer, duck and pheasant hunting, restoring classic cars, traveling and playing golf.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter R. Richartz in 2002.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa Edgington of Wilsonville; step-daughter, Danielle Crawford of Wilsonville; mother, Sandra Hamilton, of Sequim, Wash; brothers, Dan Richartz of Redmond, and John and his wife Joanne Richartz of Portland, Mark and his wife Jolene Hamilton of Reno, Nev.; step-sister, Vickie Frazer and her husband Bill of Tualatin; aunt and uncle, Jack and Helen Richartz of Umapine; aunts, Rosemary Kenney of Portland, Sharon Shoup of Sequim, Wash; nieces and nephews, Laine, Any and Doran Richartz; Allie and Noel Hamilton; Max and Leslie Frazer and numerous cousins.
The family suggests that contributions be made to the Oregon Amateur Sports Foundation, 4840 SW Western Ave, Beaverton, OR 97005, in Matt's memory.
ADAM MATTHEW DANE, WILSONVILLE
A memorial service was held Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at Cornwell Colonial Chapel, Wilsonville, for Adam Matthew Dane. He died June 5, 2003 at age 19.
He was born on July 23, 1983, in Oakland, Calif., and was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves, Fort Vancouver, Wash. He enjoyed singing, music, camping, motorcycling and playing video games.
He is survived by his father, Michael Dane of Tualatin; and his mother, Patricia Dane of Wilsonville.
Cornwell Colonial Chapel is in care of the arrangements.
Earl Lloyd Long
Earl Lloyd Long of Portland passed away on Thursday, July 31. He was 91 years old.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5 at Willamette National cemetery in Portland.
A lifelong Oregon resident, Long was born on May 31, 1912 in Portland. He was employed as a professional carpenter by Hoffman Construction. He married
Teresa Doherty, who preceded him in death in 1990.
Long is survived by three children. These are son William Long of Beaverton, son Douglas Long of Milwaukie and daughter Carol Higgenbotham of Wilsonville.
He also has seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Marlene Scherzberg
Marlene A. Scherzberg of Wilsonville passed away on Friday, Aug. 1. She was 53 years old.
Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5 at Cornwell Colonial Chapel in Wilsonville. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6 at Cornwell Colonial Chapel, followed by interment services at St. Luke Catholic cemetery in Woodburn.
She was born on July 6, 1950 in Grand Island, Nebraska. She grew up in California and moved to the Hubbard-Woodburn area in the early 1980s. She worked as a cosmetologist at a number of salons in the area, including The Place to Be in Wilsonville. Scherzberg enjoyed music, painting and cooking. She was a member of the Southgate City Church in Wilsonville.
Scherzberg is survived by aunt Agnes Wilmes, several cousins, aunts and uncles, and nieces and nephews. The family is asking that remembrances be sent to Willamette Falls Hospice.
Erma Reynolds
A Funeral Mass was held for Erma K. Koffel Reynolds of Wilsonville, on Friday, March 26, 2004 at 11:00am. Erma died on March 23, 2004, at the age of 81.
Erma was born in Sand Point, Idaho, on June 18, 1922. She married
Dale L. Reynolds in 1942. She was an executive secretary for the Austrian Consulate.
She was a past president of the Oregon Woman’s Golf Association, member of the Resurrection Catholic Church in Tualatin, and a past president of the Willamette Valley Country Club.
Erma is survived by her husband, Dale, of Wilsonville; sons Mark Alan Reynolds of Lake Oswego, and Joel David Reynolds of New Canaan, Conn.; and 3 grandchildren.
Remembrances may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation.

Gunnar Ellis Johnson
July 9, 1913 - December 18, 2004
Gunnar Ellis Johnson, 91, of Mount Angel died Dec. 18.
He was born to Herman and Krista Johnson in Eureka, Calif., where he graduated from high school. During the Great Depression, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was assigned to the crew at Orleans, Calif., where he helped build roads, trails and fight forest fires. Following the Depression, he worked for Hammond Lumber Co. in Samoa, Calif.
In 1942, he married
Mayme Nelson and they had three sons.
He was a salesman with Wellman-Peck during World War II. Following the war, he and his friend and partner, Phil Jordan, owned and managed the Park Grocery Store in Eureka. In the 1950s, he returned to the lumber industry as a bookkeeper for one of Arcata’s numerous mills. In the late 1950s, he was manager of the George C. Jacobs Hardware Store and later Holmes Eureka Lumberyard in Eureka. After Pacific Lumber Co. purchased Homes Eureka, he continued to manage retail stores for Pacific Lumber in Lakeport, Cloverdale and Healdsburg, Calif.
Following retirement from Pacific Lumber in 1975, he and his wife moved to a 5-acre farm near Sweet Home. They also lived in Stayton and Silverton.
He was active in Scouting and was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader. He was a 50-year member of the Order of Runneburg, where he held numerous leadership positions including Western District president and International president. He as also a longtime member of the Henderson Center Kiwanis.
After 58 years of marriage, Mayme passed away in 2000. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Helen Ambrosini and brother, Gerald Johnson.
For the past four years, he has lived at Mount Angel Towers.
On May 10, 2004, he married
Justine Johnson.
Survivors include his wife, Justine; sons and daughters-in-law, Linwood and Judy Johnson of Silverton and Gordon and Darlene Johnson of Rio Dell, Calif.; son, Eldon Johnson of Silverton; four grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church, Silverton. Interment will be at Valley View cemetery. Arrangements: Unger Funeral Chapel, Silverton.
Wallace Robertson
September 21, 1922 - January 13, 2005
Wallace “Wally” Robertson, 82, of Mill City died Jan. 13.
He was born in Blachly, Ore., to Harry and Myrtle (Graham) Robertson. He was raised and educated in Blachly, where he graduated from high school.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was in the 14th Armored Division. He was proud of his service and the fact that he worked with General Patton in the Battle of the Bulge and helped with the liberation of the death camps. After his discharge, he returned to Oregon.
He married
Willardean “Deane” Bruce on June 7, 1944, in Nashville, Tenn. In 1946, the couple moved to Sweet Home and then to Mill City in 1954. He was a yarder engineer and worked in the logging industry for most of his life.
He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing hiking and spending time in the mountains in his Jeep. He was a past Scout leader in the Mill City area.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include his wife; son, Lawrence of Scio; daughter, Sharon Girod of Mill City; brother, Earl Robertson of Sweet Home; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Weddle Funeral Home, Stayton. Private interment was at Lone Oak cemetery, Stayton.
James G. Rose
September 27, 1915 - March 2, 2007
James G. Rose, 91, of Aumsville, died March 2.
He was born in Little Rock, Ark. He was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Air Force. He married
Betty Vickers in Vancouver, Wash. on Sept. 16, 1940. She preceded him in death on April 5, 1996. He worked for Wilco Farmers for 30 years. He enjoyed rock cutting and developing film.
Survivors include his brother, Orville Blanton Rose of Salem; sisters, June Johnson of Sublimity and Dixie Von Euw of McMinnville; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow at Crabtree Christian Church.

Cathrine Cunningham
January 4, 1915 - February 26, 2006
Cathrine Cunningham, 91, of Sublimity died Feb. 26 in a Corvallis care facility.
She was born in Pasadena, Calif., the second of two daughters to Otto and Martha (Thee) Wopschall. At the age of 3, she moved with her family to Milbank, S.D., where her family owned and operated a corn and wheat farm. A few years later, the family sold the farm and returned to Pasadena.
She graduated from John Muir High School in Pasadena. She completed cosmetology school and worked as a beautician in Pasadena.
On Sept. 1, 1934, she married
Melvin L. Cunningham in Glendale, Calif. She was a homemaker, and lived in Pasadena until 1947. After living in Pasadena, they moved to Fontana, Calif., where they grew oranges, grapefruit and had a poultry farm through the 1950s and ‘60s. They retired to Stayton in 1979. They moved to Marian Estates in 1996.
Early in her life, she was active in the Eastern Star. She enjoyed knitting and sewing. She was a member of Stayton United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996.
Survivors include her son, Melvin Cunningham of San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; daughter, Nancy Evans of Corvallis; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Stayton United Methodist Church. Private interment was at Lone Oak cemetery, Stayton. Remembrances: Stayton United Methodist Church. Arrangements: Weddle Funeral Home, Stayton.
Margaret Sohler Susbauer
August 18, 1915 - March 10, 2006
Margaret Sohler Susbauer, 90, of Sublimity died March 10.
She was born at home on a farm where the Hillsboro Airport now stands. She was the first of seven children born to Henry and Dora Hermens Sohler. When she was 4 years old, her family moved to a farm in North Plains, where she attended Columbia Academy, a one-room schoolhouse. As the oldest child of the family, she became a “second mother” to her younger siblings.
She worked in the diet kitchen and tea room at Providence Hospital in Portland, starting the first day it opened in 1942. She enjoyed living in Portland and often visited Our Lady of the Sorrows Grotto and took art lessons.
After the end of World War II, she married
Leo Susbauer in 1946 and moved to Sublimity. She was a homemaker and mother. She and her husband had four children, and when her children were in school, she was a 4-H leader.
She was an active member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and Altar Society, Catholic Order of Foresters and prayers groups. She often helped with parish dinners and breakfasts. She was a member of the local Art League, and enjoyed painting, drawing and exhibiting her work. Her other interests include spending time with family, socializing, nature, walking among wildflowers, listening to music, singing, playing the piano, gardening, caring for animals, cooking, traveling, reading, bird watching, studying family history and religion. She loved to talk and tell stories about her childhood.
She spent the last year of her life living at McKillop Residence at Marian Estates.
She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Claire Rohan; sister, Edna Neitling; and brother, Hy Sohler.
Survivors include her sons, George of Stayton and Stephen of Scio; daughter, Marie Lamb of Morgan Hill, Calif.; sisters, Angeline and Elizabeth Sohler, both of Beaverton, and Vivian Linahen and Alice Stadelman, both of Bandon; and grandchildren, Steven (Augie) of Sublimity, and Margaret, Emily and Katie, all of Bradbury, Calif.
A funeral Mass was held at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Sublimity. Remembrances: St. Boniface, Regis High School or St. Mary Catholic School. Arrangements: Weddle Funeral Home, Stayton.
